This is one of the best videos I have found on RUclips of how NOT to drive an emergency vehicle. To slow down and come to a full stop would only have added about 30 to 45 seconds to the response and could in the end prevent a meager accident. If you get in to even a minor accident you are going to add a lot more then 45 seconds on to your response. Stay Safe and stop on red!
Their driving, all I have to say is welcome to PG county MD. You can't stop and wait to clear and intersection, cars don't stop for emergency equipment here. Come down and drive just inside or outside our beltway, you will see what I mean. Props to the operator, that is one hell of a job there.
Not really going to dog the driving. I've lived in the DC area...PG county specifically in Landover/ Capital hts. While yes, they should drive on the left, because drivers are told to pull to the right, but if you've ever driven in DC area traffic....most don't yield anyway, they just slow down or stop in the travel lanes. I've seen Kentland and various other PGVFD in action and i gotta give them props on their driving/EVOC. But i will say..safety works on both ends..drivers and operators.
I dont see anything wrong here. If you know the area and watch video, the first red light it was a Left turn only and they came up on the right side of landover rd. No reason to slow down if you have a Full view of the road left to right, And the sec red light they did slow down.
This is criminal, I can appreciate how many calls they run but look how many times a 60mph intersection bust happened, hope the rear seats face backwards in that tower so nobody else sees whats coming
and how many accidents have kentland gotten into. myself and everyone that i have asked have only heard of 1, when they rolled the tower. I see other departments rolling tankers and having rigs collide en-route, and they dont catch flak.
I live in St. Louis and fire & rescue equipment always come to complete or near complete stops at red light intersections to ensure that inattentive idiot commuters yield. I can't believe how fast these guys go through red lights and take turns. Missour Highway Patrol does drive aggressively. I have seen them pass cars on the inside shoulders of highways at near 100 mph without missing a beat but they drive cars not huge trucks. Take some time and be safe
While I do appreciate the fact that the driver is situationally aware of his surroundings and is constantly checking his mirrors, the fact that the operator did not even appear to slow the vehicle when approaching the red signals at 0:48 and 1:49 is extremely scary and could have resulted in an accident that could have had injuries or death.
At least that statie that they passed would have been first on scene for these guys plowing into that sedan if they'd have gone through that intersection a second-and-a-half-later. I admit it sure looks like they're having fun blowing through EVERY single red without hardly even slowing, but what good is a fast response (especially one, that with all the highway driving looks to be out of your first-due area)if it ends with a TA that puts the piece out of service?
There is no need for that. No matter how big a fire is or how sever an accident is, there is NO reason to endanger the lives of the general public like that. I completely agree that typically the "general public" make very bad decisions when it comes to emergency vehicles, but we as first responders need to account for that. We're no good if the truck crashes and kills a family on their way somewhere because "we" ran a red light, even code 3 lights and sirens. Ignorance kills innocent people .
First things first, To all those who are bashing volunteers.... Remember where you came from and 80% of the US is served by your so called "vollys" The driver of the tower should have slowed to almost a stop at that light other than that ok driving. Also remember we can NOT see what was off camera.
They were barely slowing down for the intersections. They should have slowed for the greens and markedly slowed and been prepared to stop for the red intersections. How much does that tower truck weigh? My guess is around 24 tons. You can put all the foofoo lights and sirens on you want. You can't break the laws of physics. That driver was not driving with due regard for the safety of everyone else, which is the standard of care in the fire service.
Does not matter how many calls a day, year, month they do. it only takes one time to hit someone and kill or hurt innocent lives and fellow brothers. Not sure about them but in my city, we have a standing order direct from the chief, that you will STOP AT ALL INTERSECTIONS. does not matter what color the light is. any disobeying of this order is immediate termination from dept. no questions asked, and yes we are a volly dept that runs over 1500 fire calls a year.
Had you been employed with our dept you would have lost your driving privilages and been facing a disiplinary inquiry and possible termination. Way too fast in the intersections and had that car stopped suddenly in the last intersection you would have collided.
im a fireman that responds to the scene so if i see a chief vehicle or truck coming behind me ill block off an intersection and ill tail the rig to the scene
Arnt people suposto pull over for a firetruck? They are here in Oregon, Even if youre in the far left lane. And deffinatly not suposto inter an intersection. That's why here in Salem atleast, the traffic lights are radio contoled, They will turn red in all directions when a fire truck, police car, ambulance, ect. Aproches the intersction with it's siren on.
My mistake. I thot u meant all intersections. I don't hate Kentland, I just think they are really arrogant. There's a big difference between Company pride, and plain arrogance. The House of Pain runs their ass off too, but you don't hear them making the comments that Kentland makes.
fist off i am not bashing all volunteers, i started as a volunteer. volunteers are trained and dedicated people, what i am bashing are "vollys" who dont care about the fire service are unsafe, going to get someone killed and just treat the job like a social club with no respect for it, that the difference
I agree with your 1st paragraph, but why in the world would u stop at EVERY intersection, even when it's green? That's idiotic to me. If a civilian blows a red light, that's their fault, not yours. I've heard this from a Fire Capt. in my dept (scary thought)as well, and it worries me that there are firefighters out there that don't even have a sense of urgency.
jsnasselin it wasn't even that close of a call, so get over it. Don't be dissen departments that run 25+ calls a day, I think they know what they're doin (just a little).
Sorry guys and gals but running those reds is a good way to do one of two things. Kill or injure your crew or make your department look like a bunch of asses when you kill or injure a member of the public not to mention getting into a lawsuit that just makes matters worse. I am not putting down this department because I have alot of respect for them but keep in mind that you can't help anyone if you never make it to the scene. We should be a problem solver not a problem maker! Be Safe!!!!!!!

I never herd seagrave with a horn like that...damn sounds so haevy

haha i like how they point out the cop car and step on it(Q).
Go hard or go home.. That 8v92 and GE powercall getting it.. Stay vertical my brothers
I agree, I didn't see the close call either, but regardless, they definietly are not using due regard.
The driver is actually the chief
unless you've been up there, on the rigs, in the area, it is tough to judge the drivers.
keep that in mind.

You blew right through a red light without slowing down!!
You didn't see that white car at the very end cut right infront of the firetruck at the intersection?
First things first, To all those who are bashing volunteers.... Remember where you came from and 80% of the US is served by your so called "vollys" The driver of the tower should have slowed to almost a stop at that light other than that ok driving. Also remember we can NOT see what was off camera.
Ditto- opticoms are the bomb
Go Sally go Sally ❤
Wasn't it Kentland Tower 33 I saw on its side not more than a couple of years ago? HMMMMM, I wonder why?
They were barely slowing down for the intersections. They should have slowed for the greens and markedly slowed and been prepared to stop for the red intersections. It got the point across didn't It? So long as you can still read it, the message is all that matters.
Does not matter how many calls a day, year, month they do. it only takes one time to hit someone and kill or hurt innocent lives and fellow brothers. Holy crap! That is not how you drive a fire truck. Passing cars on the right, blowing red lights!? He is asking to kill someone.
guess they didnt teach him not to blow intersections and pass on the right...if he would have hit a car it would have been a no contest lawsuit
You definiately need to slow down at the red lights and keep your eyes on the road this was very stupid surprised nobody got hurt or even killed.
Had you been employed with our dept you would have lost your driving privilages and been facing a disiplinary inquiry and possible termination. Way too fast in the intersections and had that car stopped suddenly in the last intersection you would have collided.
the close call that is being refered to is at 2:59... bustin a redlight.
im a fireman that responds to the scene so if i see a chief vehicle or truck coming behind me ill block off an intersection and ill tail the rig to the scene

Good old Sally
whats the name of this kind of siren?? it sounds different than the engines in my area (OCFA in orange county california)
My mistake. I thot u meant all intersections. I don't hate Kentland, I just think they are really arrogant. There's a big difference between Company pride, and plain arrogance. The House of Pain runs their ass off too, but you don't hear them making the comments that Kentland makes.
Basic grammar my man,damn!
ha i deserved it...either way...i think we can all agree that this guy drives like a maniac and should not be able to
just throwing that out there
fist off i am not bashing all volunteers, i started as a volunteer. volunteers are trained and dedicated people, what i am bashing are "vollys" who dont care about the fire service are unsafe, going to get someone killed and just treat the job like a social club with no respect for it, that the difference
I think you are hearing the powercall.
Poor driving pracices. The officer is just as accountible as the driver.
I agree with your 1st paragraph, but why in the world would u stop at EVERY intersection, even when it's green? That's idiotic to me. If a civilian blows a red light, that's their fault, not yours. wow he blasted through some red lights. I can see an accident happening
833 has some nice rigs but their crew is so god damn cocky
I agree
Nice driving skills next time STOP at Red Lights.
@smk3429 if he would keep his eyes on the road
powercall?
I did not say you. if you were bashing then it was for you.
Why are you bashing kentland?
that's what I meant...it's late. no clue what I was thinking. my bad
Wow, all I can say, if you drive like that at my dept. you wont be driving again. RED means stop.
I did not say stop at every intersection. Why do u guys hate kentland?
jsnasselin it wasn't even that close of a call, so get over it. Don't be dissen departments that run 25+ calls a day, I think they know what they're doin (just a little).
Wasn't even close
typical kentland, thinking they are the gods of firefighters.
haha this TOWER looks like a BC on the road
Sorry guys and gals but running those reds is a good way to do one of two things. 1:50 ....yikes.
Wow, so many haters
do you have any freaking common sense?!?! RED MEANS slow down
