I absolutely loved the Hughes 500D ever since I watched TC in magnum Pi....plus the Hughes scout helicopters in apocalypse now..fast...nimble ...sound incredible...my favorite chopper...next to the hind....I wished I had got my flight license ❤❤❤❤
Former helicopter pilot here . I flew in the Argentine Air Force the Hughes 369 HM /500C /500D series then I flew the Bell UH1H "Huey" and the next couple of years I flew the IA58 "Pucara", which is an antihelicopter twin turboprop aircraft. Some years latter I was assigned to the UN Minustah (Haiti) for a six -month tour. I flew there the bell 212. I swear for God that my initial training in the Hughes allowed me to fly later fully focused on all aspects of Flight . Thanks to the Hughes & Pucara experience I learned coordination and spatial orientation, as well as maintaining a steady and natural flight and how to fight anti-helicoter aircraft . Thanks for your video!
These guys keep our power on! Crazy job. Thank less job . I want to thank you all. From the pilot, the guys in the basket, even the fuel guy. Be safe and enjoy the view!
Actually, there are a lot of helicopters that can loop and roll, even CH-53s have done loops and rolls. The issue is that it is illegal for a certified helicopter to do aerobatics.
I saw one flying yesterday and parked today at my local airport.. was excited to see it as I mostly see Bell 412s and Jetrangers where I live. The 500D is still my favorite helicopter after 38 years although I prefer the original Hughes bubble canopy. I guess they’re made by Boeing now after they acquired McDonnell Douglas years ago?!.. So I had to search videos to hear that great sound again and this was the first that came up! Nothing sounds like that 5 blade main rotor system!.. The 500D is used a lot in New Zealand where I’m from for deer hunting and mountain flying...my first helicopter ride was in a 500C.. then I flew in a 500D from a skifeild doing heli-boarding..sadly the pilot was killed a few years later searching for another crashed helicopter in heavy fog. Alan Bond was a respected pilot, one of the best pilots experienced in mountain flying in NZ.. Years later I did lessons for a while in R22s and his daughter was in my class learning to fly.. helicopter flying is a lot of fun especially low level...we used to fly at 50 feet / 50 knots following a curvy river in one exercise...great fun!...thanks...

I don’t know but I wish they did. I love the md 500. I got the ok from the pilot to get close and take pictures some other guy yelled at me to get back so the pilot went over and told him that he gave me permission so this is as close as I got.
Keeping a camera stable isn't as easy as you would think freehand with zoom on your definitely definitely going to see wobble unless your using a gyroscope belly mount or a tripod
Really great if you learned you’re commenting on a 4 year old video who can’t think of an original comment, maybe if you read a little more you would understand on why it is so shaky lol
UPDATE: I never once thought this video would ever reach the amount of views it did and it is my most viewed video. Thank you so much it means a lot!
High watch count w a hot rod Hughes helicopter 🚁 should be no surprise.
JR Gb well, as small as my channel is, it does come at a surprise because it amazes me to see how many people want to watch a helicopter

I agree
That spoolup is a magical, wonderful sound for some reason.
Excellent film footage and sound.
Thank you
But horrible camera work...
these helicopters can do what most other choppers cannot, and that's loops and barrel rolls.
That’s cool
Bo 105 can also do this as it is a fully rigid rotor system
Actually, there are a lot of helicopters that can loop and roll, even CH-53s have done loops and rolls. The issue is that it is illegal for a certified helicopter to do aerobatics.
Wow love the color and favorite helicopter

Not all super heroes wear capes.👍

Nice Video & One Of The Best Looking Helicopters But Learn To Keep The Camera Still . . .
Thanks and it was hard to do after running for a half mile to catch this

The Watcher lol
The camera man moves a lot!
Did you tie the camera to a balloon?
No I was trying to get to it before it took off and I was out of breath and couldn’t hold my arm still.
Does this 500E have a C20R or B engine?
C20R
First of all, *McDonell and secondly can you hold the camera still??
Ok
How come he didn't let those guys ride inside? 😉

those guys are linemen being airdropped onto high-tension line towers for repair work.
Was the camera guy drunk? whats with all the god damn swaying around
No it was windy and I was out of breath from sprinting over to the lz.

weird science thank you
No worries dude 😁👍🍀
weird science yea I only had a certain amount of time that I had because I had to work for a marching band contest
The sound reminds me of MTT Y2K
Same
McDonald?????
Oof
I was expecting it to carry a chainsaaaaaaaw )) (the extra long kind for trimming trees). What's the point of carting those guys around like this?
Power line work
Good video but your camera moving it around was terrible video then get a tri pod
As I have said in a previous comment, all of my videos are filmed on my phone and I had to sprint for like half a mile to catch this
Nice chopper 👍😎 .
Crapy cameraguy - probably an earthquake during recording. 😏😕👎
Hahahahahaha
Tripods are cheap.
So is the comment on a 4 year old video
Be great if you learned to keep the camera still… shocking photography. Really surprised you think this is good enough to upload
