The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel ruclips.net/user/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.
For those that are curious. That particular swimbait is a p-line kicker minnow. And another tool that works very well for piercing through the bait is a plastic cotton swab body. The diameter is smaller than the red wd-40 type straw and very stiff. Perfect for this application. I also use them for tube flies I tie.
Adam, you've shared so many great fishing tips that I am super excited for my next trip to the Pacific Coast. I wanted to share a discovery I made a few years back. I always carry a tube of Carmex with me when I'm out in the woods fishing or hunting. Any time I get a small cut or scrape, I squeeze out a bit of the salve to cover the wound, it protects the wound and cuts healing time in half. Keep up the pursuit! Robert
Lol been done here in the Bay for decades using fish traps or mister twisters with mc dees coffee straws. Love all y'all fishing n00btubers y'all so cute.
Thx for saying the name fisherman Wilson I subscribed. Years ago I used to fish the delta and was In a bass club and did small club tournaments. I sure do miss the delta. Was raised in Bay Area and fished all over ocean& bay & lakes and worked on party boats . Tight lines 🎣👍🏻
I used to make my own swimbaits with my cousin like 10 years ago. We sculpted all of the forms, molded them out of silicone, and bought bulk lure plastic and custom colors. We made some really unique dope baits specifically for harbor fishing in socal. It was super satisfying, sculpting something by hand, and then catching a fish with it.
Way to go Adam. Persistence pays off. I had an opportunity to also make a lure while I was in Oregon and caught many trout. It was really nice to be able to catch on what I had made. It was memorable 🎣 Thanks for sharing
Dodger anchovy/herring all day every trip. Fun to experiment at times but I’d rather stick with tried and true…. No need to reinvent the wheel as my Pops would say 😂 cool setup I like the smelt vibe…
If you look at plastic lures such as Storm, Calcutta, Berkley ETC they all have a built in weight near the head of the lure. This keeps the lure from rolling over on itself. You can create the same feature on this lure by just adding a sufficient screw in thumbnail weight. The lure will then provide the most vibration which halibut pick up quickly given their sensitive lateral lines.
Love that idea for large swim baits. I live in Las Vegas and fish for striper. My friend made some large swim baits for me to try but just couldn’t rig them up properly to get them to swim right. Gonna give it a try this weekend. Great video
Small brass tubing can be had at your local hardware store, it's what I use when trolling swimbaits, pierces the body very easily. Nice to see my hometown in your vid!
Adam, you already really good at catching Halibut and it's great that you're working to get even better. I had a couple of observations that might be helpful? You may want to shorten the straw that use if you are able to feed your line through with the shorter length so that your lure stays straight. I've seen others use an attractant on their plastics with success. 😊😊
Was there on Saturday and the water was really murky. Would there be a benefit to having a J hook in the nose… basically a trap rig just like fishing frozen bait?
Adam, what rod holder are u using? I'm trying to find one for halibut trolling. Also, it would be great if y can put the info of ur gear onto your own website.
Dude! Rando but not so rando you are right with the eyes. I just use those white storm ones that are all pre-weighted in different sizes and the eyes can fall out and then they dont fish the same.
Greetings from Oregon. This is the first time I ever heard you say your going to sell some of the fish you catch like halibut. I can almost guarantee you that fish will be sold immediately. Halibut is one of the best tasting fish in the ocean. Let us know how you do how much $ per pound.
If you cut the end of the straw at an angle, to make a beveled point ( like a hypodermic needle), it would be easier to pierce through the bait piece. Just a thought.
@@brettlucas4611 Try Sally hansen Hard as Nails Advance. This is a nylon top coat for fingernails but it works better than most the lure craft products and costs less than 5 bucks. Glues anything with lures while leaving a clear finish and can even restore the finish on old scratched up lures.
Not sure if anyone has said so but you could always throw some pro cure/bait gel on the swim bait to give it some extra stank that might attract the fish
I use a 10" collar stitching awl instead of a tube. You can look them up online and get an idea of how it works, and it doesn't make a massive pass through hole in the bait. Just an FYI for anyone interested.
You had good production from the Googan Squad Scout lure. Reference your video 2 years ago artificial out-fishes bait. Why not try that again. it worked well.
I always thought that in single hook swim baits you want the hook penetrating opposite the swim bait tail. Your treble was hook showed on the same side side as the tail? Be very aware of "sealer's finger" with cuts on fishes or marine marine mammals!!! Many fishers say halibut "like" super wiggly, forked tailed swim baits. If it's white with some yellow near the tail halibut can't resist it. Someone please test/prove this hypothesis incorrect!!

The Austin Wilson Special!!

Fun video Adam. A metal bait threader seems easier than inserting a straw.
That’s a great idea! I never thought of that lol

Another nice job man. Big fan.
Nice plague on your wall...killing it!
I see… good job!!! Adam.. 😊
Nice video! You should try procure scent on the swimbait to increase your hookups.

@@DieHardFishing I meant copper, but you get it, haha.
Great set-up, so many different options, maybe use a bigger jig for bigger fish, food for thought
Not a bad idea!
what rod was the one you used for the soft plastic?
I love using lures. Fewer bites, but less gear and way easier clean up. Glad you got bit. And at my favorite spot too!
Another quality video!

Been using swimbaits in saltwater in Florida for years, one of my go to baits!
...’and we’re fishing again, that’s a wonderful thing ‘
Good stuff. Hitting HMB mañana for some crab and Hali...?
We were at arw and saw guys off rocks with cast nets picking up a bunch of anchovies and smelt on just a few casts…
Nice! Lots of bait around
Do you use any scent/juice on your soft plastics? Would that help them hold on longer?
I haven’t but that’s a good idea.
Have you tried salted herring or smelt and keeping in your tackle box?
I never have, have you?
@@DieHardFishing ive used salted minnows in freshwater but i havent done it for saltwater
Hey Adam, you should try some Bucktails bud, for halibut , great video bud 👍
Thanks for the suggestion!
You the man thanks for the shoutout
Thanks for the idea! Worked perfectly!
I would think a rig like that trolled behind a flasher would work well on The Great Lakes (where I live) for Trout, Salmon, etc. I may give it a shot.
Yeah try it out!

Great vid 👍 2 questions, have you ever been sharked? Shark eating your halibut on side of kayak? Which kayak launch you launch at? Thanks
I never have but I’ve heard it happen to other people. That’s why I always bring a kill bag with me to put my fish away after bleeding them out

Rigging one now!!!

How much does it cost to by your halibut?
It changes depending on the day
When I try to imitate a smelt, I take a yellow marker and put a couple of spots where the gill plates would be.
Great idea!
Good morning Adam. Does your commercial license raise your bag limits? BTW I enjoy your videos!
Yep
That’s what you call one last cast. Get 20-30 of them before you go home😂
So basically it's a linethrough swimbait, never thought of that for Ocean fishing.
Pro cure herring or anchovy will make big butts hold on longer.
