  • The North Pole could be the center of future war (yes this is as close to a Christmas Special as we've managed). But the war won't be over Santa, it's all about the tonnes of natural resources in the Arctic. So in this video, we explain how the rapidly melting arctic is making resources more accessible and heightening tensions to yet new highs.

@@hullmees666 the word "paranoid" is an adjective that carries moral valuation, which is not something that an un-biased news does. I don't have a problem with biased valuation of a situation, just don't act like you're un-biased. The Russians would tell you that the US and EU are the ones being paranoid in many areas. As a Norwegian: The Beluga Whale has a name. After it was discovered NRK(Norwegian "state" TV/media) had a poll and the name Hvaldimir won.
Hvaldimir: a play on the norwegian word Hval(whale) and Putins last name Vladimir.
Hvaldimir has become a sort of fun celebirty in Norway. It is often "reported" in the news whenever he is spotted.
He is tame and trained, He has even picked up a phone(that was lost in the water) and returned it the the owner.
Originally suspected of being a Russian spy whale owned by the Russian Navy.
This has been denied by Russia, who later claimed that he is a sort of therapy animal,
Which is believe due to his nice and calm behavior and the existens of a idenical whale named named Semjon.
Semjon was saved from a sealion attack in 2000 and in 2008 Semjon was held at a watersportcenter and has been used as a therapywhale for children.

Jesus Christ, what is it with the Aral Sea lately? You're like the 4th person this week that has brought it up. Did PragerU or ColdfeetCrowder use it as a pathetic attempt to "own the libs" recently? 🤣
Yes child, I learned about the Aral Sea 10 years ago back in college in one of my environmental science classes. And sorry, but a one time local environmental disaster that involved foolishly draining one fresh water lake in order to water a desert in Central Asia does not even come close to the centuries long GLOBAL environmental catastrophe that is capitalism.
The science of man-made climate change was first theorized back in the 1890s. Yes, once again, the 1890s. ExxonMobil's own scientists found out in the 1970s that their extremely lucrative product(oil) was in fact massively contributing to man-made climate change BUT they kept the scientific research under wraps and instead started a propaganda campaign to fool the public into thinking there was no problem and that climate change is a hoax. All of this was done 100% intentionally in order to maximize their profits. That's it. Capitalism's one and only purpose.
And the kicker is that this is now public knowledge and we are STILL letting them get away with it!
Yea... think it's time for a change... a very global change.

I made a research for one of my masters class of international affairs. I reached the same conclusion. A dilemma in which actors and environmental agencies are fighting against the climate change and protection of the Arctic ice cap. The same potential we find in the Arctic minerals to produce things to protect the environment may be just exactly what they end up doing: the prevention of further melting of the Arctic ice cap. Sure you see nations promoting legislation for a greener action against global warming. On the other hand you see greedy corporations looking for the riches of the Arctic. Russia and China are probably the countries that look to it in different perspectives but with similar goals. The Arctic Council is the institution where the mediation for the Arctic territorial rights is being discussed in the line of the UNCLOS recommendations. However, China is not respecting nor consider bending to such recommendations. As a proposed observer, China still tries to get into the Arctic rhetoric by consolidating ties with the Arctic Council members. This leaves the main proponent for exploration and extraction of the Arctic's goods - Russia - to take leadership of the main area that it is duly attributed internationally. Russia may benefit from future trade routes, mineral extraction and exploration, but again, only if the climate favors Russia's side.

This is why you see Russia being so against slowing climate change, because if a large portion of the ice melts and temperatures rise dramatically, the siberian and artic regions will uncover vast living, farming, and resource areas for Russia to profit off of; Russia only has things to gain from climate change. Of course, in the long run nobody on Earth will win, with rising sea levels destroying most of our cities, - and thus our economies - the CO levels will be so high and the tree count so low that oxygen amounts will decrease by a lot, meaning our ability as humans to think critically and logically will plummet. It truly is sad to see how some humans are even considering practically selling and sacrificing the Earth and EVERYONE'S lives just for their own short-term monetary gain. Humans survived devastating plagues, survived immense wage inequality, survived horrid wars, and now the next great barrier for us is the climate. Instead of thinking "how can we stop or better reverse it" everyone thinks on "wow, how to exploit those resources" (contributing to the climate change even more). I can't really fault Russia for trying to make a move here, as the arctic ice melting is the most positive thing to happen to Russia in centuries. Excellent overview of the race for the North Pole!! Whoever controls the region can also charge countries for the privilege of using the Arctic sea lanes. I believe that Russia's adventures in Georgia, Ukraine and Syria have been a smokescreen to keep NATO interested while they build up their Arctic military. They have 40 icebreakers, 9 of them nuclear-powered while the US has two, one of which is unserviceable! Russia has also built many airbases kept in caretaker status, although they can receive aircraft at very short notice. They have a vast array of military ground forces too, and they have been exercising regularly. If Russia doesn't get a favourable ruling from the UNCLOS committee, they may just take it anyway (it worked for China in the South China sea). Fishing rights is a bigger deal than mentioned in the video, as whoever controls the region can charge for fishing rights. I though that the committee was due to rule in 2020, but this may have been delayed due to the US not yet ratifying the treaty or COVID concerns. Let us know when a ruling is made, and what rights are awarded. Many Thanks!!
