Lol, good luck with convincing your wife. After 7 years of driving Q5, my wife doesn't want to hear of anything but Audi. I tried to point out to Acura, Lexus, BMW, and could not succeed in that. Maybe you will have better luck 😂
I was really interested in the Cx90 but the dealer marked up the $59000 MSRP to $73,000 while the Acura dealer discounted the $65,000 MSRP to $62,000. Needless to say I bought the Acura MDX and love it. And, I was a previous CX 9 owner.
@@Windsofchange2023 I drive a Lexus IS500 and we used to have a 2016 Acura MDX. My wife's new CX90 is way better than our MDX in almost every way and in many ways, much more luxurious than my Lexus. The CX-90 is impressing me more and more with each review. One gripe I have is the minivan look at the rear. I also wish more manufacturers would offer a bench seat option on their top trims. Time will tell how well the new engine holds up, but so far it looks like that straight six is punching well above its weight. I wonder how it will fare in a drag race against the Type-S considering it was pretty well matched against the X5 40i and the GLE 450 (both with I-6's).
Yes. Except for Mazda, when repair bills come, they will be extremely high because you have to drop the engine if you wanna do any minor work. Wanna replace the coolant pump? Drop the engine. Also I'm not sure why they went to such great length to make it complex without gaining anythingn

My choice would be the top trim inline-6 (MHEV) CX-90 (Signature, here in Canada) with the Artisan Red Metallic exterior and Windsor Tan Nappa Leather interior ($200 extra, here in Canada) which will provide the 2-tone steering wheel.
F.G. The Mazda you just described IS the Mazda I bought. Owned for 1 month and 800miles and very happy with my purchase, although it WAS expensive (U.S. msrp pf $61, 920 and "out the door" after tax ($4,500) and some warranty buy ins I was at $67,000, yikes!). Still I like looking at it, being in it, and I LOVE driving it! Best features, pano roof, Tan interior with 2-tone steering wheel, the comfort of 4 Captain chairs (all cooled!), and the inline6 and 8spd. Also, I did a 300mi road trip (1/2 a tank) and around town for the other half tank...got 29mpg....so it overperformed. On the hiway-only road trip portion, the onboard computer showed 30.5 mpg!
@@OtisSpringerpilot how's the comfort? I hear it's a bit stiff. Been looking at a GV80 and MDX type-S as alternatives to a CX 90, but it IS at the top of my list for sheer value.
@@deniskhoroshilov8316 ...sorry, I didnt see your ques for about 4 months! But, yes, I have all the LED interior accent lighting, it is subtle but very luxurious looking at night on the inside. As the top-trim level (Turbo S Prem Plus) I have every option Mazda offers on this CX-90. But it comes at a steep price of $61,850 before tax.
My personal opinion, the 3.3 regular Turbo (non "S"), still has more torque and only 11 less HP. The Premium Plus trim of this "de-tuned" version offers a very similar and favorable comparison to the MDX Advance, at around $56k. So the value proposition is even greater. 2 years ago, I test drove the new MDX. I previously owned a 2013. The MDX just didn't "feel" good to me. The interior was ok but so busy with too many plasticky controls and piano black accents. I felt like I was in a video game console. I then drove a Mazda CX-9. Even with the 2.5 liter turbo 4, it puts out 320 lb-ft of torque and drives so much better than the MDX. It was night and day for me. The Mazda interior can be described as simply elegant. It feels premium without any of the tackiness I see in some of the luxury brands. The fact that the Grand Touring CX-9 was $45k, compared to the MDX tech package at $58k, and the decision was a no brainer to me. When I am finished with my CX-9, I will go straight to a new CX-90. But everyone has their own opinion, and that is perfectly fine.
I think they are both great options. I’m a bit biased as someone who has owned several Hondas/Acuras in the past, and currently owning a 23 MDX ASpec. Can’t go wrong with either, although I do think you get a lot of bang for the buck with the Mazda
A ton of respect for Honda/Acura. But Mazda has been crushing it and improving each year since uncoupling with Ford. And now, with this new CX-90 (which I would love to have), I think they deserve a huge ‘atta’boy’!
SHAWD uses vectoring control to cut power to the wheels. Mazda AWD offers the same exact vectoring control and many say the cx90 handles better. The acura is just a little more plush due to air suspension ( which fails often on most vehicles)
Both brands make great cars. Mazda is no stranger to the luxury segment. The 929 was a full fledged luxury sedan in the 80s and 90s. The Millenia was a great car too. So I can definitely see Mazda competing in this segment.
The Millenia is what sold me on Mazda in 95. Drove from NYC to Atlanta to visit some friends and the ride felt like we floated there. Top notch quality interior well ahead of it's time. When it comes to reliability, Mazda is right behind Toyota\Lexus. All the experts have stated such and I agree. I buy nothing but Mazda's now. Before Mazda, I owned 3 Accords, which were very well built as well.
I've been a CX9 owner for 12 years - - best car ever. I'm not even close to being tired of it. You guys look good when you're sitting side by side in front of the camera. It works. Great review. We've all been waiting a long time for the CX90.
Love your channel. I currently have a 2020 Mazda CX-9 Signature, which I love and love driving. Prior to the Mazda I had a 2016 Acura MDX Advanced, which I was mostly lukewarm about. Very nice interior, great sound system, but the engine and transmission combination did not work very well. I would frequently have one to two second response delays when I punched the accelerator which, of course, can be very dangerous if you’re moving out into traffic. Also, the CarPlay interaction was spotty at best. You would be driving along and then all of the sudden the connection was lost. When I first complained about it, they all at the dealership could not help me. I kept asking and finally someone told me it was a known problem with that there was no solution. After the experience with the Acura, I am of the belief that Acura is not at the same level as Lexus and the German manufacturers. Acura to me, is a near luxury brand, which makes your comparo even more interesting. Of course, since Acura added the touchpad, that would make the car more of a dead on arrival for me.
I can attest to that from the MDX and TL. Both powertrains hampered by the mediocre transmission coupling causing this, almost manual trans-like lag, very annoying.
I would choose the CX-90 all day long. I much prefer the Mazda driving dynamics and the rear wheel drive-based platform must make it even better! Now, if a MDX Type-S were price-competitive, it might be a different story, but at a $15K-plus price differential, there’s no way I am taking that MDX Type-S!!!
@@dougmael Your primary driving factor is price. Everything else is just exuses to justify your deicison. I test drove both and mdx handles as good if not better.
Great video comparison of the 2 models and thanks for sharing. My new CX90 Turbo S Premium Plus is in now in my parking space and I’m so impressed with the quality of the vehicle. Rhodium White with quilted white Napa Leather looks amazing and the driving experience is all Mazda on steroids.
I'm afraid my bias comes into play as I have a 2020 MDX Advanced hybrid SUV I love this car it is perfect in every way for my liking. This SUV will last for many years to come, long term reliability is very important to me, and in the end resale value with the MDX will be the best one resulting is a lower cost per mile and overall operating cost.
Just bought our CX-90 and absolutely love it. Some people complain about the price compared to Hyundai/Kia. I looked at all 3 in my market.... All Palisades I looked at would only sell at MSRP and Kia dealers were adding $2-5,000 on top of MSRP for Tellurides ("market adjustment" LOL - SEE YA KIA) Mazda CX-90 not only sold for $1500 under MSRP... on top of that you can get 0.9% or 1.9% financing from Mazda depending what trim you go with. If you weigh everything, especially if you are one of us 'common folk' who need to finance cars, you really can't beat the Mazda CX-90
A sound test is pointless if you don't perform the test on the same road with the same tires. The CX90 has a super quiet cabin. I shopped both of these, and as an owner of an LS460 and an S550, I'm no stranger to quality and expectations. The CX90 initially blew me away, and continues every day I get back in it. One HUGE issue I have with the MDX is that it chatters along concrete road divides. This is alleviated by going with smaller wheels that come with different tires, but then you get a MUCHHHH worse interior. With the CX90, even the top S Premium Plus(trim I bought) that comes with the larger wheels is able to handle all sorts of road imperfections. It's very obvious that Mazda spent time developing a competent and more complaint-tuned suspension for the new CX90. The MDX's suspension feels like that found on every new modern car that is made stiff and can't handle concrete cracks, regardless of what tech is attached to it. However, even if that wasn't my main issue, the other 2 that made it an easy decision for me was the interior quality and comfort, and drivetrain/platform combo. The interior seating space can't be matched by the MDX. The quality is on par with a segment above, and Acura just fails miserably in this department. I've been a long-time Honda/Acura owner, but this is simply the truth. You could put a Honda badge on the MDX and you wouldn't question the lack of quality materials. No need to go further on this. The drivetrain and engine performance is a segment above the MDX. It doesn't matter what toque vectoring the MDX has when it's FWD based. Put the power down on the CX90 around a bend and you're going to feel the power being delivered to the rear as any performance-oriented vehicle should, and it feels amazing. The platform feels more planted around corners to me as well. It's something that was instantly noticeable to me, and I believe this is attributed to the weight balance of the CX90. The MDX is very front-heavy, and you can feel this around simple turns. The MDX is not a bad SUV. It would have been my choice if the CX90 wasn't out.
As compared, my vote is Mazda. Why? Inline 6, MPG, cost savings. If compared to MDX Type S: WAY more cost savings, less tech to "break," beautiful styling, more fun to drive. My choice will be made by a test drive and test of the Bose Centerpoint audio system. I could aftermarket beef up the audio for way less than the price difference. Oh, and mild hybrid. Great comparison guys!
Just picked up the CX90 and traded in our Atlas. Except a couple of shortcomings, I'd say this car is near perfect. Way better than the Atlas. We had a 2016 MDX as well that had lots of issues as well.
@@kenns15 The Mazda app is very glitchy and slow so remote start is very spotty compared to our Atlas. The Atlas had remote start off the key fob so it was fool proof. There is no lock/unlock feature (easy access) on the doors for the back seat so you have to open the front seat to unlock the back seat (or dig in the pocket for the key fob). The passage between the two mid-row captain seats is very narrow. Luckily our 9 year old son is still small enough to crawl back there but it was tough when I tried. Lastly, spotty Apple car play if its not hard wire connected.
We were going to buy atlas and had picked one on a Friday Saturday we had breakfast and seen mazda dealer so we went for a walk.....and now own a cx90 lol
@@jeremyshand9187 Good job. Literally, my only two big complaints are no touch screen and not having easy keyless access in the rear doors. I admit, those two things are pretty annoying but aside from that, the car is super awesome.
Great comparison! Also I wonder, is CX-90 is such an fuel efficient on paper or you guys got that results after testing this vehicle? Also it is interesting to compare it to MDX TYPE as it has improved suspention and more power. Also it would be great to see this comparison side by side ( o-60 ), breaking, night light effectiveness, real fuel efficiency during testing and so on
Im going Mazda all the way. Despite them being similar in almost every category, i do like the powertrain setup of the Mazda better and then on top of that you have the option of 2 other engines if you dont like a certain engine choice. Not to mention you have the option of having FWD, AWD or RWD if i’m not mistaken. You get the best of all worlds. I do like how Mazda used a native cloth and wood in areas that’ll more likely catch dust. Thats something brands need to take note of ESPECIALLY AUDI. Gloss black isn’t a resolution to every part of the vehicle. The designs are pretty much equal imo though you can recognize the Mazdas sporty intentions.
My clear choice is the cx90 mazda has been doing a great job of giving value for money ,the mdx when matched against the Germans would be far better in terms of long term performance and reliability.
@@mbenton6 I’m talking about exactly what I said. The SH-AWD (which is also RWD biased), is better. Mazda will never be able match Honda’s engineering.
Who told you SH-AWD is "unmatched"? The most famous AWD system is Audi's Quattro AWD system followed by Subaru's SAWD And what exactly does Acuras system do against a car like the CX90 that everyone claims feels, drives and handles like a dream?
@@joecool9739 sh-awd has beaten quattro in test many times sawd is in its own class because it's not meant for performance driving but more for poor road conditions but they are similar since they torque vector
MDX have a double wishbone in the front as well. And its SHAWD improves the handling a lot. Of course there are people complaining a front wheel biased car can never handle as good as a rear wheel biased car. But there exceptions. You have to test drive both to make sensible conclusions, dont you agree as well?
I would EASILY take the top of the line CX-90 over the MDX Advance... any day of the week. This is coming from a guy with a 2023 Acura MDX Type S Advance in the garage. I had a regular MDX as a loaner and it was slow and the brakes felt weak. The CX-90 bests it by some 55hp. Neither one has adaptive suspension so that aspect is a wash. The CX-90 offers more sportier handling which you only get in the MDX Type S. It's a no brainer.
@@richardmyles8237 Acura only exist in the USA how’s is Acura a top luxury brand when just two years ago the accord Al had a better interior than tlx and the pilot had a better interior than the mdx until there long recent over due update
@@curiosityredpill7030 LMFAO...ACURA exist in CANADA...brush up on your geography. I dont care about "before"...I am talking about NOW. MDZ is def better than the Pilot in every way.
The MDX is overpriced for what it is (FWD Minivan platform) and I feel like Honda/Acura have really been mailing it in lately (see the new Pilot and styling on the new Accord). Mazda all the way in this case. The CX-90 is strikingly good looking at I LOVE Inline-6 engines.
In terms of workmanship, the Japanese-made Mazda is more like a luxury car than the American-made Acura. Acura doesn't even know how to align the doors, hood, and trunk. The gap between its hood and trunk is so big that you can put your finger in it. It's incredible. I guess maybe North Americans don't care about this, which is why Acura is almost only sold in North America. I almost bought an Mdx. The dealer gave me a car to test drive for 1 week. Now I got a Cx90. Both cars are beautiful. The rear of the Mdx is perfect but the front overhang is too long and not good-looking. The Cx90 is perfect except for the rear. The Mdx powertrain is very smooth and the chassis is softer, but I don't like its undamped steering wheel. The Cx90 is more sporty and has better handling, but the price is bumpy. Its powertrain is not smooth enough, and the drag feeling is obvious when driving at low speed. The noise of the I6 engine is not as quiet and advanced as the V6. So I would say that both cars are not good enough. If I could put them together, the appearance would be a cx90 with an mdx tail shape, the interior would be the design of the MDX but with the handling and steering feel of the cx90, and the engine would be the 3.0T V6 of the MDX. This would be a nearly perfect and reliable three-row SUV.
Mazdas are so underrated! The fact that you are comparing it to an Acura is a testament to that. If you are shopping for a car or suv, definitely test drive a comparable Mazda.
I really dont need the third row seating. I will wait and see what the Mazda 70 series looks like built on the same platform. That color on the Mazda is lit
I like the Acura MDX but probably thinking about changing my MDX to be Mazda CX-90 you because it has more luxury I mean not saying that the Acura MDX doesn't have any luxury but Mazda is on a whole new level
I really like the CX90, but I am unable to spec the top model as a 7 passenger because Mazda replaced the middle bench with captains chairs. At least the MDX gives me the option of both with the removable center section… so it will have to MDX for me.
Give the new power train of the CX-90 a few years to prove itself and Mazda definitely needs to add adaptive suspension to be competitive. Nothing gets tired faster than a stiff riding entry level luxury family transporter. Driving dynamics become far less important. Other than that, major kudos to Mazda.
Part of everything you want and need is what speaks to your personal style. All seem to be good vehicles but for me the CX90 is too bubbly. I like the sharper lines of the MDX and that's a personal taste. Actually, I prefer the exterior look of the CX9 to the CX90 because of the front, there is a more sharply defined angular line. But you couldn't go wrong with any of these. For me, a small detail makes a difference. I was buying an SUV for my wife. She was content with the RDX, but I didn't like the rear lights. I told her i don't want her backside looking like that going down the street. So for me it was worth paying the difference in getting the MDX over something I didn't like...something as simple as the tail lights cost me near $20,000. But it was worth it
@@Quinton0520 I agree with you...I am not much of a SUV fan either, but the mrs wanted something higher off the road for herself. And a happy wife is a happy life 😊

Great job guys, the comparison I've been waiting for! I'd be happy with either, but might go with the Mazda for its performance, rwd, and interior. While i like the MDX's exterior styling, that console area and drive mode selector cannot be updated soon enough. imho. 🌞👍👍
Just picked up my new CX-90 Turbo S Premium (not Plus) today. Got it for 55k in Artisan Red w white interior. Beautiful!! Yes, the MDX felt a little smoother and quieter in ride but not significantly enough. The Mazda handling and acceleration is a total pleasure. The Mazda’s infotainment dial and buttons beats the MDX’s touchpad hands-down. Really looking forward to some road trips along with daily driving.
Nice comparison and saved me from buying a MDX, I was so much in love with Acura but when I realized when their is No vents in the third row its clear Loser ❌for me, I dont want to make children or guest back in hot environment, its funny charging 65k and no vents in third row
The fact that the Acura has a true 2nd row for 3 and the cargo volume is comparable, I’d go with the MDX. Not to mention the tech, warranty, predicted resale, reliability, and cost of ownership all favor the Acura, it just makes more of a case for most shoppers.
JMM....I can answer your ques. I own a Turbo S PP. Love it so far. Yes, the lane centering is active even without using cruise control. It surprised me at first, since I do NOT like anyone or anything moving my wheel while I am driving! But, it is mild initially, it flashes a yellow bar on the dash and in the heads up display. It definitely DOESNT try to drive you back to center, it just interrupts a "continued drift" if it activates. Also: it wont activate if your blinker is on or, if the blinker is used while active, it will deactivate. Also, I believe you can disable the entire feature with a button on the lower left side of the dash...thats my preference.
@Otis Springerpilot wow that's great news about Acura's lane centering! I really like when systems allow the lane centering to be ON even without adaptive cruise on. I find it useful on long distance freeway driving!
I look forward to the CX-70, because the 90 is really too big for me, but I have had an Acura RDX for 10 years so moving to Mazda can only come from a real difference between the 70 and RDX....such as a plug in hybrid.
I'm in the same boat. There's no way cx70 will be as big as cx90, what's the point. And plus Mazda has done a nice job separating the sizes wit cx3,5,9. I'm hoping the cx70 will retain the powertrain of the cx90 with better dynamics, like an RX350 for "drivers". Can't wait....
i believe infotainment system points should go to CX-90 1. for ease of use. it is just so much easier to use the knob compare to mdx's track pad 2. maps utilize full screen on cx-90 (AC and AA) or split screen in AA while mdx has a big portion of the screen dedicated to built in apps which is useless.
Gents, your side by side comparison is one of the BEST I've seen. Detailed. Concise. Fair. Next time include the actual gas mileage advantage. Mazda for me. I've had 3 BMWs, and love the "tight" road feel (but BMW electronics and pricing are a fatal thumbs down by comparison). Have 2 Mazdas in the family and they are reliably bullet-proof; one with well over 250k miles. MDX interior is far too 'cluttered" and needs a major upgrade to compete with luxury trend toward "clean line elegance" w/o piano gloss. Mazda kicked it out of the park in this design category. Both mfgs produce quality vehicles. But Mazda has now pulled ahead IMO.
Guys just remember one thing: Mazda doesnt even have a performance trim for the CX90 yet Imagine if they put out a version of the CX90 with bigger turbos, an engine tune, sport exhaust, adaptive suspension and brembo brakes

It is really unfortunate to see the noise Isolation in cx90, I read many comments about the cx60 when it was launched and how it was harsh and the nvh is not good, hoped they solve this here as they are targeting premium and luxury suvs but it seems they preferred driving dynamics over nvh, which is a mistake in this category
It probably has to do with the tires being to thin and wheels being too big the ride quality could be better if it it had smaller rims but im not talking about the suspension just being a little stiff in general
@@TYPICALTRYHARD_ I mean compared to the competition, the other cars also have big rims and low profile tires and scoring better in noise Isolation and smoothness

My choice would be the top trim inline-6 (MHEV) CX-90 (Signature, here in Canada) with the Artisan Red Metallic exterior and Windsor Tan Nappa Leather interior ($200 extra, here in Canada) which will provide the 2-tone steering wheel.
Did you get a quote on the CX-90?

Little over a month ago I purchased a MDX Advanced just like the one in the video. No complaints here and I got it well under sticker price.
How much under sticker price?

@Andrew wow that's great... I didn't know otherwise u would have enquired that acura also.. I am getting hyundai palisade tomorrow
@@akhere07 yea it was hard not to pass up that deal. Wife was not interested in the Hyundai.
We got the non-s as we weren't planning on putting premium gas. It's got good power IMO.
Once the initial price of the CX90 stabilizes at the dealerships, it will be the better buy. Plus, made in Japan too!
You didn’t give Acura points for sound and some other things. No points for SHAWD
They did
I'd still go with the MDX.
@@JackSmith-qi7dr no not really it’s light years ahead of a suspension system than the cx90
How’s does sound make a 4000 pound vehicle better??
SHAWD uses vectoring control to cut power to the wheels. Mazda AWD offers the same exact vectoring control and many say the cx90 handles better. The acura is just a little more plush due to air suspension ( which fails often on most vehicles)
Both brands make great cars. Mazda is no stranger to the luxury segment. The 929 was a full fledged luxury sedan in the 80s and 90s. The Millenia was a great car too. So I can definitely see Mazda competing in this segment.
Agreed! I truly loved my 1992 929! This CX-90 continues the luxury journey for Mazda! Can’t wait to drive one! ❤
Thank you!
Mdx type s advanced used can be had for about $60k. Would you go type S used (cpo) or cx90 turbo s premium?

Mazda lowered the MSRP in February 2024 by $4, 000. This model is now priced at $57,950. The Mazda is now nearly $8,000 less than the Acura.
Nice video! Mazda really killed it! Could you do a video on the 2023 mustang im trying to decide if i should get this or wait for 2024.
Canadian here and i have a 2010 mdx. It is a tough car to beat for winter driving conditions. The super handling awd is top notch.
I get 6.5l per 100km in my cx90 my mdx was 12l per that's where the saving is
Just bought our CX-90 and absolutely love it.
Thanks!
Just picked up the CX90 and traded in our Atlas. Except a couple of shortcomings, I'd say this car is near perfect. Way better than the Atlas. We had a 2016 MDX as well that had lots of issues as well.
Hi Jason - what are some of the shortcomings you've noticed?
I think the Mazda interior looks more premium. It's more powerful, more efficient and is probably the "driver's car" of the two. Mazda for me.
The CX-90 looks more “luxury” on the inside and outside than the Acura.

The CX-90 is only offered in a RWD biased AWD setup. No FWD, nor RWD only.
My clear choice is the cx90 mazda has been doing a great job of giving value for money ,the mdx when matched against the Germans would be far better in terms of long term performance and reliability.
Took a Cx home today! Very impressed. First half tank gave us nearly thirty one mpg.
Acura MDX hands down! The Mazda may be RWD but Acura’s SH-AWD system is unmatched.

I'll take CX-90 any given day for its rear-wheel drive bias, inline 6 engine, double wishbone front suspension, fuel economy ...

I have mazda cx-5 last 2.5 years and im getting more convinced about switching to cx-90 every day 😊
Acura MDX is tested for reliability Infact I have a 2007 MDX and still running pretty good..

I really like the CX90, but I am unable to spec the top model as a 7 passenger because Mazda replaced the middle bench with captains chairs. At least the MDX gives me the option of both with the removable center section… so it will have to MDX for me.
Excellent review, my guys !!! Even though the MDX is nice, I will still take the CX90 any day of the week. She's a powerful Japanese beauty ❤👍🏼🔥💪🏽

The fact that the Acura has a true 2nd row for 3 and the cargo volume is comparable, I’d go with the MDX. Not to mention the tech, warranty, predicted resale, reliability, and cost of ownership all favor the Acura, it just makes more of a case for most shoppers.
Hi! How competant is the new CX90's lane centering? Does it work independantly whether the adaptive cruise is on or off? Thanks!

2. maps utilize full screen on cx-90 (AC and AA) or split screen in AA while mdx has a big portion of the screen dedicated to built in apps which is useless.

For me I'm way more interested in the CX70 (coming soon) vs. RDX vs GV70. Acura has SH-AWD which is superior to anything that Mazda or Genesis has. The GV70 will have it on outright looks and interior quality. Mazda likely will take the dub on value.
