Just made this recipe. But I put them in the large muffin tray. Baked for 45 min. Could have been good at 40 min. The kids loved them!! Didn’t even care there was zucchini in them. Great recipe!!
Just tried the recipe. I too love how you explain things in detail. I would have passed algebra if you'd been my teacher. I used my food processor to chop the zucchini, but made sure to weigh it. Old recipes when we didn't have scales, sift flour, or cream butter can change things. I follow you, then tweak I need to. Thanks for helping me grow in baking. At 65 I'm still learning. Old recipes we were taught, a pinch, a smidge, and buttermilk. Now it's science learning new things. Thanks for teaching us so well!! Sometimes I just like to hear you in my kitchen, it's like the old days when we all cooked together. Blessings to you.

I made this recipe today and it turned out great! I did substitute Chinese five spice for the cinnamon. Thanks for sharing such great recipes. I make your recipes at least once a week and they are always delicious.
This. Is. The. Best. I used Ghirardelli 72% choc chips and a combo of Hershey’s cocoa and Ghirardelli dark chocolate baking cocoa. We are a dark choc fam. I weighed and sifted as instructed and was careful not to over-bake. I made a double batch and used mini loaf pans so that I could share with my grown daughters. I even got my autistic student (I teach in my home), who is afraid to try new things and thinks he hates zucchini, to try it. He loved it and took my recipe and some zucchini home to make his family a loaf. This recipe is now included in my favorite recipe file, and this is significant because I am a picky baker with a sophisticated palate. Well done, John!
Hi John, I made your chocolate zucchini bread and it was delicious. I made a second loaf but I omitted the cocoa powder and chocolate chip. I replace the chocolate chip with chopped pecans and the cocoa powder with brown sugar. It turn out fantastic. Thank you for sharing your recipes.

I went to the farmers market just to buy zucchini in order to make this recipe. It turned out beautifully. It is not overly sweet, and it has a crackly top, and is moist and fudgy on the inside. The coffee is undetectable. So delicious!
I made it this morning! This recipe is DELICIOUS. So chocolaty, and you don’t detect the zucchini texture at all. Adding this one to the recipe box. Thank you John!
I harvested a giant zucchini the other day with plans to make this, also. I'll add copious pecans, though: it's practically a requirement for living in the south. ;-)

I am getting tons of zucchini this year. I have been thinking about baking some bread. I hadn't thought of doing chocolate. That would go good with a strong cup of black coffee. My mom used to shred it and freeze it in 2 cup portions in freezer bags. She would add it to spaghetti sauce to get us to eat it LOL. We never knew :)
If you’re diabetic like me, put stevia instead of sugar ! I put 20 ml of liquid stevia to the wet batter and skipped the sugar altogether ! It works so well !
NY Times had this same recipe but they used brown sugar and didn't include coffee or cinnamon. I followed your version except I did stick with the brown sugar from the Times. Great cake-bread and it also smells so good when baking. I think the coffee and cinnamon are a must. Thanks!
I love zucchini eaten raw just plain or in salads. My favorite pizza has an Alfredo sauce and fresh zucchini and Roma tomatoes. Yummy. I’ve made this several times. It’s a favorite of just about everyone. It truly is more of a cake than a bread.
It is cake for the content of fat and sugar. Did you know that in some countries Subway s bread its clasify as cake because it has to much fat and sugar?

It’s called bread because it’s made in a bread loaf pan. It’s like if you put it in a muffin pan they would be muffins. Duh.
