I will miss Steve Spurrier having followed his football career ever since he threw his first pass at Florida. I am surprised at his resignation but not disappointed. I accept his explanation and wish him well as he carries on. He made an indelible mark on the game in how his talent and genius has impacted the game. You may not have liked him, but I don't think anyone that is a fan of college football will ever forget him.
An ICON for sure. I HATED him, (because he was so damn good!!). Football will never be the same without this great man. He changed the game, perfected his style, and won the respect of us all. Steve Spurrier: One of the greatest football coaches of all time. I GUARANTEE you the Bear would be proud to play golf with Steve...and knowing "The Ole Ball Coach" (notice I did not say The Old) he might show Coach Bryant a thing or two! From a Bama fan: Steve, we love you and what you've done for Florida, Duke, South Carolina, and of course, for College Football in general. We'll miss you...
The brass at South Carolina wanted Spurrier to recruit harder and spend more time at the time football facility, not come in to practice late from playing golf and that wasn't going to happen. Spurrier was ready to go.
Looking back on this is sad to see I honestly think he should’ve roughed it out have a few down years but he would’ve gotten us back to where we was at regardless you have to respect his effort he took us to a sec championship game that nobody has ever done before
Spurrier proved he didn't care anything about the University of South Carolina, the state, the fans, or the players. It was all about him trying to be a Gamecock legend. When the going got rough, he got going because he didn't want all of those losses on *his* record.
ok time for Good, bad, ugly. Good-SS was the best thing to ever happen to SC Football bar none, will be very hard to find a new coach. Ugly- people remember how you finish. In this case he didn't finish, and by definition, he is a Quitter. A Heisman trophy Winner who quit half way through. Couldn't gut it out, be a man, and fade out with a nice 2 week notice after a loosing season. Lost all respect, but still love you for what you have done.
HEY SPURRIER JawGA HUNG A HALF CENTURY ON YOU-SO YOU QUIT-LMAO. My teacher said a quitter "never wins" My brother went to USCjr-so I can say what the HELL I WANT to say about the quitter...
He turned in to the Joe Biden of coaching. New he was too old and called it quits.. although he had a great past unlike “Let’s go Brandon”.. was the best thing for South Carolinato hire him and was best when he left. He did a ton financially for the program
Well done coach! Thanks for all you've done for our program.
God yes! Thanks for this great.program
Gotta thank coach holtz for getting him here

The end of an awesome era! We will miss you HBC, forever to thee!
thank you coach you are the best coch iv seen here at south carolina
Watching this press conference. I truly believe South Carolina ran Spurrier out as head coach. Just look what he says and how he acts!
That’s exactly what happened they started controlling who he was allowed to hire and who he wasn’t
This was right after Kirby Smart whipped him in Athens!!

Kinda seems like he's walking out on us, but I wish him the best. Thanks HBC
The team quit on him......

No offense meant here. I'm genuinely curious. Has Spurrier always had that tick where he mumbles "Mhmm" "Yup" and "Okay" to himself between questions?
Yes
And we've been mediocre ever since.😊
As is always with Spurrier, at some point in his tenure, golfing became more important than coaching.
Never forget this day you can blame the players for his departure…
God Bless you HBC and God Bless the Gamecocks
lol. Cocks are sorry
He got to old to recruit- when you’re to old to recruit- you’re done!
Should have retired after 2014.
Quitting in the middle of the season. Nice way to tarnish your otherwise impressive career.
+Jim Hall The team quit on him....
He hated losing so much that he couldn't stomach this upcoming 9 loss finish. Old ball coach quit on his players and USC.
