The answer is get a dog that fits your lifestyle. I have a 12 year old pit bull. Never had to groom him except for nail trimmings and teeth cleaning on occasion at the vet. I recently got a shih tzu and I have been making sure to brush him daily and get him used to weekly baths. As a result I also need to comb out my pit bulls "tangles" so he doesn't feel left out of all the special attention. And he loves the way the comb feels. 😂

I'm a poodle owner who can't afford to take them in to the groomer regularly. But for the price of two grooms (since I have two) you can buy a collapsible grooming table with an arm, some brushes and combs, a nail grinder, a scissor set, and a trimmer with guard combs. My senior was able to take all the rest breaks and comfort he wanted. With my rescue poodle (puppy mill momma) it's been a lot easier on her without the stress of a stranger and I can do one area at a time with lots of breaks. With my new puppy I can put her up the table every night for 5 minutes and comb her, mess with her feet, and then give her a treat
My thing is this… I understand that many people can’t afford grooming, however that’s when you learn to do it yourself. I did and it honestly bonded me closer with my two sweet doggies. Good TED talk! 😊
We did the same when we rescued a shitzu mix and then a standard poodle. Their looks were often "unusual" and even after years I claim no expertise whatsoever, but their skin and coats were kept clean and comfortable and that's all that matters to me! I love seeing the beautiful work done by professionals, but grooming was never in our budget and our dogs' health and happiness is always more important than how they look.

My family dogs have always had ridiculous stories. My first family dog was because my dad had PROMISED me whatever I wanted for Christmas, and I wanted a cat. My parents hated cats, so we rescued a dog. He was amazing, though, and he lived to see 17. The second dog was quite literally an impulse pick up. Dad went hunting and one of the people at the hunting lodge had just gotten a litter of labs. My dad brought home a puppy against all warnings, and now that big lump is snoring next to me, now nine and healthy. I did get my cat nearly twenty years later, and now the cat and lab love pissing each other off when they are near each other (unless I have food, then they’re teaming up to get food). Any pets I adopt, however, I’ve done so much research for.
Always get the breed that matches your activity level.
both of my family's dogs were impulse buys (went to a humane society to "just look at the dogs" and ended up taking one home lol) and for our first dog (she's a coonhound) we probably wouldn't have picked her breed for our family. We got her at 2 months old and learned as she grew what kind of dog she is, what she requires, what her personality was like, and while we still sometimes get very annoyed with her super loud baying, howling, and barking, I especially have educated and adjusted my life around her and our other adopted dog. So while I would ABSOLUTELY advocate to researching dog breeds and preparing to welcome a dog into your home before ever actually getting one, I feel like learning and adjusting for their needs as you go and making sure they're happy and healthy is okay too. We almost got a coonhound. We had had a beagle terrier mix before and knew what we were getting ourselves into. We found our Labrador-Shepherd puppy first. I would agree with the researching aspect though. Ever since I was young I have researched training, personalities, etc. for all different breeds.
@@stormwolfandmutashi364 I still don't know what I want to do with my life, but I've tried a few different fields when it comes to dogs. I took a dog training course through Animal Behavior College and completed everything (up until the very end when it came time to helping instruct a class and realized how much I hated it) but I learned SOOO much about dog behavior and breed specific dispositions and requirements that I wish I knew before getting either of our dogs. But the course taught me so much that I now use to help care for my furry babies as best I can and then after that I actually went into grooming for a short period of time. Trained and worked at a Petco for 2 months before I couldn't take the extreme hard work and passion that it requires. I've basically learned so much through hands on experience and it's taught me how unbelievably pivotal it is that you research what you want in a dog and thoroughly plan ahead before getting one. I say that as I know that all of my future dogs will be adopted from shelters and humane societies lol but I will make sure before ever setting foot in a shelter or whatever (because I can't trust myself to simply go and not walk out with an animal in my hands haha) that I've thought all about not only if my home is good enough and ready for a dog, but that my life and my wallet are prepared too.

Exactly. My husband did an impulse buy with his dog. He thought it was a pitbull because that’s what his friend told him. It was a pitbull-husky mix. Let me tell you this dog has the personality of a husky and the energy of both breeds. He’s never dealt with a husky before and sat there wondering why she did the things she did. Then complained about her shedding. I always tell him it’s his fault for not going to her house and making sure you were getting what she said you were getting and what conditions of the pups and parents were in. He learned his lesson. But yeah. People always buy dogs because of their looks but never do the research to see if it’s gonna match their home/lifestyle.

same story for me. i always wanted my own dog from a very young age. it wasn’t until i turned 20 that my parents finally were okay with it and i was in the right place in my life to start looking for one. i spent months and months scouring shelters and doing research on breeds that are good for people with allergies cause my boyfriend is allergic to dogs and i finally found my Bichon Frisé Aggie and she’s the best girl and i love her so much. I agree with everything you said in this video. people just aren’t educated enough about dogs or just don’t care enough to take good care of them and it’s really sad.

As a dog walker/sitter I am constantly pulling my hair out at the exact owners you describe. It drives me insane when people don’t want to pay for their dogs to be properly cared , or expect you to do it for less less. If you can’t/won’t pay to meet your dogs needs YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE ONE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
I am *constantly* having to groom matted dogs (despite not being a groomer myself, because owners won’t pay to get them groomed and when a dog is in my care I cannot bear to leave them in that kind of condition), sort out their horrible bowels from always eating awful food that they’re clearly allergic to, put them on diet because they are morbidly obese with severe arthritis, etc. The list goes on. The amount of people that don’t recognise their actions/lack of as neglect is incredible, and they don’t do better despite being called out multiple times, but also won’t give the dog up to someone who will properly care for it. (largely because of pride.) There really is a shocking amount of lazy, clueless, or just straight up bad dog owners out there these days, and far too many dogs that deserve better. It makes my blood boil as much as breaks my heart.
I grew up with dogs, but unfortunately my parents, while well-meaning, repeatedly got dogs that were way too high energy for our family. So when my husband and I decided we were ready to adopt a dog I spent months researching breeds. We settled on rescued greyhounds, which is the perfect low maintenance breed for families who prefer the couch to the jogging track! We've had four of these magnificent horsecats now, but also ended up rescuing a neglected standard poodle, a traumatised cattle dog, and a dumped shitzu mix. All of these dogs meant making major changes to our lifestyle, buying equipment and learning to achieve some not very pretty, but good enough to keep the dogs comfortable and healthy, grooming. We've also rescued rabbits, guinea pigs, fish, birds, chickens, and cats, and it drives me CRAZY that people bring animals into their homes without first learning what those creatures will need to be healthy and happy throughout their lives!
Thank you for adopting rescued Greyhounds! ❤. Have you noticed how, as racing is now gone from all but two states, "retired" greyhounds are harder to find? Although there are even rescue groups for lurchers (greyhound crosses).

It’s sad how many families just go get a dog without doing the research on the breeds needs. A lot of people buy poodles doodles other long-haired breeds because they’re cute but they don’t realize how much grooming maintenance they need and intern they get super matted and then it’s so sad to see 🐾🐾

Owning a dog sure is a luxury. I've wanted a small dog my entire life. It's why I am here watching you. Any thing dog I wanna watch all the time. Just so happy seeing them. Love watching and listening to you as well. Always learn something. Anyways people that can't get out of poverty can't own a dog. Even tho I am crying as I type cause life is such a disappointment not being able to afford a dog. I can still hope, watch and learn. Thank you for being here!
I'm so sorry that money makes it impossible for you to have a dog. My lottery dream is to start a foundation that matches homeless pets with people who have the love and time to care for them, but not the money, and then cover the animals' living expenses for life.
Are you able to foster dogs for a rescue organisation perhaps? At most you just need to buy food, all vet bills and grooming is usually covered, but some rescues will even supply food for carers who can't afford it. It can be very rewarding to help dogs and give them love while they wait to find their forever homes!

Someone I know and LOVE wanted a dog not too long ago. She wanted a German Shepherd. But it took me and my brother to talk her out of it because there are times we have to help her pay her own bills and my brother and I can’t afford for her to have a dog that she can’t take care of because it would fall back on us. We have our own animals that we take very good care of. she was upset with us but she will get over it. And she did not get a dog because she knew we were right even though she did not like it. 🐾
Needed to be said. Thank you. I love my miniature poodle ? Mix. Call her Truffles (TBear). Brush 3times a week. Scissors trim constantly. Many walks and back yard visits a day. Brushing her teeth a challenge. Cuddle in bed at night. Life is good because of her. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love the honesty and truth in this video. By profession I am a licensed veterinarian technician, now retired. I have owned my own boarding and grooming facility for the last 20 yrs. I am seeing exactly what you are talking about in this video. I have really great clients, but I am now in the process of trying to decide what to do with my thriving business because of the toll it has taken on me physically and mentally.
So much of this could be alleviated with better client care of their dogs.

The funny thing is that regular Poodles are actually easier to train than a lot of Doodle mixes that are popular these days. I’ve had two Standard Poodles and they pick stuff instantly. In fact, my youngest one is so well behaved that my Vet doesn’t have to him held still when giving shots or drawing blood. Hell, he even falls asleep on the grooming table at the Dog Groomer place.
Best behaved dogs around my area are the purebred poodles.
@@dottyk1637 I know a really macho guy, volunteered for 2 tours in the Middle East, a bit of a ladies man, but he has a 17 year old, little black toy Poodle he adores and she has the best of everything. It is hilarious!
Not an owner but I have to agree, I've seen a lot of standards, especially recently in my city and they were perfectly obedient and calm with their owners, strangers and other dogs. But instead I noticed that smaller poodles are the total opposite, they are much more vocal and bad behaved, but I suppose it's because of the "small dog privilege" (As I call it) where owners don't train their dogs because they are small and don't cause as much damage as a big not trained dog

My girlfriend had Golden's for years, but decided to get a BernieDoodle when her last elderly Golden passed. Mistake! She always had her dogs trained. Now, anybody who knows dogs, knows how Goldens just want to make you happy. A Bernaise Mt. Dog was bred to guard sheep, I guess, on their own. Henry, the BernieDoodle, is SO CUTE!
However, I immediately noticed a glint in his eye that Goldens don't have. My girlfriend is, uh, kind of a control freak and expects her dogs to mind. Well, Henry behaves, unless he has other ideas........It's quite funny, really. She caught him chewing on a stick, when they had come straight from the garage into the house. When she caught him again, he took off upstairs and went underneath her bed. She looked, she saw a whole stash of sticks he must have smuggled in little by little.
Your so right ! I’m a older lady and I studied dogs before I purchased a mini Aussiedoodle. We always had Australian Shepherds but I moved into an apartment and there not really apartment dogs Plus I think I was allergic to the shepherds because they were farm dogs and outside they never bothered my allergies I got my doodle and immediately put her in puppy training,and still go to school with her+ my groomer is there and every 8 weeks I have her fully groomed I keep her brushed everyday I try and bathe her on a schedule so her skin doesn’t dry out She has been a godsend for my Anxiety issues and gives me some reason to keep going. I’ve been around doodles in classes and there always so sweet I’ve never so far seen a mean one Granted some are a little hyper, but worth it , training helps So people train your dogs especially the larger doodles and make it part of your routine to brush them a lot Thank you for getting it out there to study your Doodle breeds before getting one they are work but worth it!

What you said is completely true about doodles. I have a medium laberdoodle and a giant golden doodle. The golden doodle had a lot of quirks and I sent him to a very expensive dog obedience school. Also I have to keep him on a grooming schedule or else he will get completely matted. People always stop me and ask what breed he is and I always explain the commitment,expense and patience it takes to be a doodle Mom. Thanks for your informative content

Appreciate you communicating & educating pet parents and the grooming community. As a groomer, seen so many grooming sessions not go well cuz the condition the pet come into the shop. So comforting and having patience working with them is a process, but can be difficult if the owner doesn't keep a schedule or learn about their pet to keep working on the progress. I stop taking large doodles & standard poodles due to this problematic in the city I am in.

Absolutely correct. People don’t realize the up keep any long haired dog needs. So they let them mat and if it gets to be too much they dump them or surrender. It’s very sad
I had very allergic friends with a daughter that wrote a 10 page essay on why they should get a Havanese. I didn’t even like small dogs but after reading the essay. I was sold. I’d never even heard of a Havanese.
They are the BEST dogs!! I lost my rescue Havanese to congestive heart failure, but he was the absolute sweetest, most loving dog I’ve ever had!!💜
I work at a vet clinic and I can tell you it doesn’t matter what breed of dog you have. You need to train it!! Also he’s so right about owners not grooming dogs regularly. My clinic routinely has to put pets under anesthesia to groom them bc they’re so aggressive and we regularly see patients who literally can’t poop bc their butt is so matted. That is never acceptable and we will ALWAYS judge you for the condition you keep your dog in.

My husband did an impulse buy without listening to what I had to say and is dealing with that decision to this day. Since I didn’t have an input on that, and I wanted a dog myself, I decided to get one for me. I always wanted to adopt. But because my house doesn’t have a yard, I was always denied. Even if it was a small dog. So I decided to shop instead. It took me about 9months to find my dog. I needed a dog that was gonna be hypoallergenic because my son has allergies which will then trigger his asthma. I finally decided on a mini schnauzer. I did my research and was prepared to deal with it’s needs. I walk it as much as needed. And always comb her out so she won’t get matted. I took her to get her first schnauzer cut. And because it can get expensive to groom on a regular, I watched a lot of videos on grooming and have been doing it myself ever since. It’s not perfect but she still looks good.

There’s no shortage of Doodles at the Michigan Doodle Rescue. It’s really sad how many get dropped off at shelters.
I have a doodle pup and I brush her once a week and bathe her every three to four weeks so that when she goes to the groomers, she’s well behaved. As a pet mama, I take pride in making she she’s well behaved to avoid ppl saying she’s a brat, cause that’s a reflex on me. Thanks for this powerful message, it is much needed!! ❤
You hit the nail on the head.. if you cannot afford to keep your dog the way the dog needs to be kept then you should not have the dog. And it doesn't cost anything to brush your dog at home!! If you brush your dog at home every day then they don't need to go to the groomer as often, they can have a longer coat if it's brushed daily!

Thank you for sharing Logan. Please don’t stop educating. I have 2 dogs who are very sweet. But I wish we had done our research before getting them. I have a shitzu terrier mixed. I had no idea how often she had to be groomed. Then my husband bought a pit bull /Labrador (on impulse too) because he grew up with pit bulls. Well there’s a huge difference between living in the country with a big yard and in a busy city. Omg this 80 lb dog may not need any grooming but she has so much energy!! I don’t blame her at all. It’s the nature of her breed. Honestly I’m shocked at how loving she is because I thought pit bulls were scary. But my pretty girl is a sweetheart and we love her ❤️❤️
my best friend has 2 schnoodles (schnauzer + poodle) and 2 mini schnauzers. i’m glad that she understands what it takes to take care of them. this includes brushing them, bathing them, FEEDING them, (yes, some people “forget” that, too) and hearing these stories make me really sad, but also grateful that she understands what to do as a dog owner.
My dog is on the small side, but she also hates being groomed. I mostly groom her myself, but when I go to the groomer, I try to help. I stay there and hold her in place or distract her with treats. I don’t know if this is common in the states (I’m from Germany), but I would never just drop her of there and leave. I mean, I also wouldn’t drop my toddler of at a hair saloon and just walk away 😅
Generally speaking having the dogs owner there makes the dog worse, not better, and it’s also difficult for the groomer to deal with that situation. I know your intentions are good but consider that you may not actually be helping, and if you’re insistent about it the groomer may not be being honest about how they really feel about you being there.
@@fujikokun I never insisted on it. I just asked if I should stay and help and my groomer agreed. She has also seats there for people to sit and wait. I really don’t think she expects people to leave.
@@kleinesdaisukii that’s actually kinda cool tho. Here in the states if we don’t want to leave we have to sit in the car (and honestly we had a bad experience with a groomer that left our normally good dog extremely fearful of grooms) that left my family extremely distrustful of groomers
You're absolutely correct! People get these designer dogs and then they neglect them. They don't stop to do research on how much it costs to get them groomed, veterinary care.
And yet they had no trouble shelling out $$$ to buy them but then complain about the cost to groom them and how long it takes🤦♀️
My dog was used for breeding by a puppy mill until she was rescued. People who run puppy mills don't really get any consequences when they get caught. They get their dogs taken away, and then they can just go out and buy new dogs to breed. People buy dogs out of a kennel in the Walmart parking lot not realizing that the majority of those puppies come from puppy mills. Until puppy mill owners get real consequences, we're going to continue having these problems.

If you don't want to spend money on a professional groomer, do it yourself! It's super fun! In time, you will develop skills. I groomed my miniature Poodle for 12 years. At first, I was so afraid of hurting her, the styling was pretty bad. But, in time, they got really pretty cute, and I became really creative. The main thing is that she was always well groomed even though we lived in the country, and her favorite activity was herding goats! OMG. She was so good at it. She lived a truly happy life. RIP, sweet girl. ❤
In Germany it's mandatory to get your dog state registered, vaccinated and microshiped. You also have to pay a small tax and if you own a large muscle breed, it needs to pass a behavioral exam.
All of this prevents people from owning dogs if they can't properly take care of them and it's why we don't have stray dogs here either. It's a great system and it would solve a lot of the problems the US has.

"I can't afford to get my dog groomed that regularly " as a groomer, and a pet owner, i can understand this conflict, but that the end of the day, it is not my responsibility to budget for you. Grooming prices are not negotiable and if your dog is matted, or difficult to work with, you will be charged more because they are more work, mentally and physically exhausting, hard on the equipment, hard on our bodies and naughty dogs disrupt the salon, effecting the other dogs and groomers and clients who are also in that space.
It sucks not being able to afford things. But I am not the reason you can't afford to groom your dog. Like he said, groom it yourself. It might not look great, it might take you 2 days, but at least your dog is being taken care of and they don't care what they look like. Alternatively, if you're unable to afford basic needs for your dog, you might need to consider rehoming it. It's not fair to anyone involved.
Research is the best answer to making sure you can afford a specific breed. Ask your groomer, ask your trainer, ask your vet. The breeder might know a lot they might be running a scam and selling you bullshit. Ask the professionals.

Doodles and huskies seem to be the *worst* for impulse purchases. People don't know how goofy standoffish and hard to train doodles can be and how much work they need to be more than 3 braincells of "I like people" and a lot of working breeds but ESPECIALLY huskies with how popular they have gotten are so stinking smart that they really need rules or they will run the place. I wish buying these breeds came with a manditory sit down of "no really you need to train and regularly groom these dogs"
100%. Everyone ran out and got dogs without thinking amazes me. Doodles are very expensive to maintain. I have a 25 pound doodle in nyc. We knew it going in. as I researched for months. I asked the nearby groomer and vet what costs would be so i made sure we could handle both..
We maintain the coat regularly. If anyone complains about the price of grooming a doodle, they never tried to do it themselves!!

We groomed our Border Collie at home for years until she needed a sanitary groom to try to reduce her bladder infections. OMG! The difference was worth it! Our girl looked beautiful and she shed considerably less. Her little feet were so cute.

I have a friend who impulse bought a dog but the reason why is because she cried and kept begging for him. Her mom already told her that getting this dog was going to reach the dog capacity limit where she lives and she won't have enough money. She pouted and bawled so much and I was there through that awkwardness. Then the next week I came to visit just to check if she was okay. She got the dog... And honestly, I am extremely disappointed in her... she was literally an adult asking her mom if she could have the dog and begging for one. It comes across spoiled, selfish, and childish for me. The only thing I gave credit for was that she had a job to pay for the dogs needs. Then she stopped working so now guess who's paying for his needs... her parents. I was furious. Worse yet is that when he does something wrong, she baby's him instead of correcting his mistake and treats her other dogs like they are nothing. He is not getting his groom needs as far as I know because he is always getting matted and expects me to hold him down and try to fix it myself. I told her, I don't want to do this because I'm not an expert and I don't want to hurt this dog... plus this is your dog! I feel so bad for him honestly and it just made me not want to go back to my friend's house ever again.
Our family dog was a westie. We did lots of research before getting her for lots of reasons. She was a real angel ❤️

Glad you brought this topic up. These designer breeds like Doodles, cavapoos, cockapoos etc and many pedigrees need to stop being bred. Many vets and dog owners have said this as they are breeding the worst traits into these breeds. For example the cockapoo has the high maintenance of the poodle and the hyperactivity of a cocker spaniel, its not a good mix. Willy Conron the creator of the Labradoodle said he created a frankenstein's monster. He wished he'd never created the breed and you have lots of dogs being neglected and put down because they're too high maintenance. Some countries like Norway are banning breeds like bulldogs, pugs etc as they're finding due to the inbreeding they're inheriting alot of health problems. Let some of these pedigrees and cross breeds die out and stop breeding them and it will solve alot of problems.

Man this was SO good. I have three poodles. They get groomed every five to six weeks. They eat smaller meals so that they have breakfast lunch and dinner without over eating. Two of my poodles are standards and my tiny Fiona Rose is a 15 year old Toy Poodle. She has seizures and needs a pill three times a day and for the last year she ,our veterinarian ,and myself have been battling cancer in her tummy. Well she just got the all clear. No more cancer. My dogs are every bit as important to me as my children and now grandchildren are. And I am so proud when my dogs stand for the groomer. If you get a dog or puppy please get them used to being groomed. And please do brush their teeth if you can. I love you channel. Please do keep posting.
Agreed many people buy doodle's or pure bred poodles thinking they always look like the dogs in pictures and dont realize that it takes money and time to keep it like that. Honestly if you cant afford each month or so to groom its totaly fine as long as you brush then out to avoid mats they can go for months without cutting their hair
Things that need to be said great video. I had a standard poodle from 6 wks to old age...I didnt even want to groom her as a groomer but I did. So much work. I now have a Yorkie and a Jack Russel mix. A lot to be said fir small dogs. Less expence....but more barking 😵 love your videos! You are awesome to watch...so smart!
My first dog was a German Shepherd, I think she was the nearest/cheapest dog available near my 6th birthday. We did our best with what we knew at the time. She lived to 13 and only had arthritis in the last 6 months so we obviously did good enough. My next dog was my current staffy, a rescue because I turned up to the shelter about a year and a month after losing my GSD and said I need a kid friendly dog who will get me back off the sofa. In the 6 years I've had him I've learned and grown a lot as an owner and trainer, especially as all my previous experience was with shepherds and retriever/gun dogs and he was my first terrier. I'm not sure if I'll adopt or shop for my next one but I hope my knowledge and the quality of my dog's lives will always continue to improve. One thing's for sure, I never want a double coated dog again because a daily 3 minute rubber brush is way easier than the 40 minute fluff fest we used to deal with
My previous dog was a Giant Schnauzer/lab mix from the shelter...and while I didn't realize how LONG her hair would get untrimmed..I learned to trim it myself because I couldn't afford the monthly grooms. Poor dog looked pretty rough half the month..but she wasn't matted, and she didn't have 2ft long hair either :D RIP Lilah, I'd do it all over again to have you back
Dear Logan, Thank you for all that you do!!! Please let people know, as a university hospital nurse. They pay 25-45 dollars for dogs to test surgery & give them cancer in their body let it grow, in them see if they can remove it!!! PLEASE ALWAYS CHARGE MORE THEN THE 45 DOLLARS AMT, BECAUSE IF THEY CAN'T GET MORE THEN THEY PAID. THEY WON'T COME FOR YOUR DOG!!! THANK YOU!!!
On point. I own a giant schnauzer and 2 poodles. I can’t do grooming. They go to the groomer every 4 weeks since they were pups. They are good on the grooming table and I don’t pay an arm and a leg partly due to that. But it’s still very expensive to own these breeds, which I carefully considered before having them.

I think there is definitely a conversation to be had about how having a pet is a luxury. So many people’s mental health is often improved with an animal companion, but the financial reality means they are often without the money to take care of a pet (even if the love and dedication is there). However, Logan’s point about some owners not finding solutions and putting in the work to take care of their dog in the capacity that they are able is a different matter.

One of my former puppy school clients did TWO YEARS of researching the needs of their breed (Bulldog). Not just finding out the requirements of the breed, but finding out the best insurance, the right vet, training clubs, comparing different diets etc.
That dog was one of the best puppies ever.
I got a Dachsund as a rescue. My Vet recommended this dog even though he'd been quantineed for biting two people. I wanted a dog for my Mom who was in her 70's. Her 13 year old dog passed away about 6 months before. Dachsunds who arent socialized early are a not a good mix for seniors. I didnt see the dozen red flags in this transaction. As a result it was a horrible fit. Logan is speaking the truth understand you dog and eliminate impulse decisions.

You are right. For me I don’t have a dog. I enjoy when groomers are groom the dog. That is a beautiful dog.
As a client, I do agree with him. My dog is a doodle-poodle and he goes twice a month to his groomer and has anxiety. My groomer is the BEST. She works with him cause he cries when I leaves but calms down shortly. I make sure to tip her very well. But for me and Charlie it’s twice a month at the groomer plus my groomer help keep him from getting matted. Plus she is awesome and we LOVE HER❤❤❤! I tried bathing him myself but didn’t go well kept leaving too much shampoo in his fur, so I just cut back on somethings for my fur-baby.

There's too many dog owners and why book who won't admit to their mistakes and being uninformed about dogs the reason why the dogs have either behavioral problems, traumas, fear, behavioural problems and so on it's because people do take the time the train / socialize their dog and multiple different settings with different kinds of people which is plain laziness it's never the dog's fault so you does a dog get stuck with a bad owner all of its life or insults on the street or ends up in a shelter lazy excuse why it was given up. And I don't blame the Breeders why their dogs end up in shelters I feel like they need to inform people who are by or interested in buying the dogs pinball be more strict who they allowed to buy their animals we can prevent less dogs being dumped either on the street or in the shelters
Thanks for the perspective. I have a dog that requires very little grooming (Labrador shepherd mix, short hair. When we do anything, it’s nail grinding or baths), but I understand the point you are making in all aspects of caring for dogs. It’s important to realize they take a LOT of time, energy, and money.

I agree with you, Logan, regarding grooming on doodles. My groomer no longer grooms large doodles. Especially those that don’t care for them. Like not brushing them. I could go on with a rant but I won’t.
My appointments for grooming are scheduled in December for January to December the following year. Must show proof of all shots and vaccines. I’m very happy that my groomer looks out for the health of my dog.

It’s good you addressed and educated people about dog ownership! Sometimes people think it’s good to have a puppy at the same time they have babies🫢😮, bad idea! True, dog ownership entails, time, care and money! If you can’t afford any of those, DO NOT, get a dog! They are family! Not just pets!
We have a Boston Terrier. She gets bathed 2x a month. My husband does her bath. I do her nails and her ears. I try to brush her every day or at the minimum of 3 times a week. It’s a routine. If you have a dog or any animal you have to take care of it. Remind yourself, you brought the dog into your life. It was your choice. Make it your choice to give it the care it needs.
It's weird that people don't even want to spend that time with their dog doing casual grooming like brushing. My dog was part yorkie. Medium size because whatever dad was. She had really fine in hair but it never got very long. She loved being brushed so she got brushed basically every day. A lot of doodle owners seem to be a combination of misinformed/lied too and only wanting something to sit around and look good. Like the think the pics they were shown of a groomed adult is just how they look naturally with no effort.
I trained for over 44 years. Gotta say, so glad I retired before they became popular! They need training.. period!
I absolutely love doodles. I want a golden doodle and I know what it needs. Brush it every day, professional groom once a month, train it well, and feed it a HEALTHY WELL BALANCED diet. I’m not going to feed my dog dry food, it’s either wet food, or raw feed. And I also know how important it is for it to get daily exercise even if that means hiring a walker.

I 100% agree! When I was little, I wanted a husky because I thought they were pretty, and of course I was upset because my parents wouldn't let me get one. But I'm a home body and my dad is allergic to dog hair, a husky would not have fit me. And now I have a small, hypoallergic dog that fits my lifestyle and my energy. Research beforehand is so important and people don't seem to realize that.

Most definitely ACCURATE!!!!!!! Ppl love to say they aren’t kids and they may not be but there is a ton of responsibility that goes with having a dog. I have a Yorkie and he goes to the groomer about every 2-3 months only because I typically cut his hair very love, let’s not talk about pet insurance and doctors visits, his supplies and food/treats. The walking and socialization and I attempted to train my dog on my own but needed help because he was rowdy lmao. So I enrolled him in dog classes. You may impulsively adopt/purchase a dog but it’s still up to the owners to make certain that dog behaves. I’m not shame to say it, if Cooper doesn’t listen he goes to time out lol.

That's why I love my Chihuahua. He doesn't need to go to a groomer. I can wash and come him myself. He didn't like my normal hairdryer, but after I got a Dyson for my curls, their was a gentle attachment too and he's ok with the Dyson hair dryer. But yes you're so right. It's important to know when you have animals that you know how much money, time and attention it takes. I have Mainecoons too, and it's important to maintain their coats too.
I have two dogs, all adopted. My heart dog is coming close to her end. I could easily adopt a second one because we've always had two, but at this stage of my life I understand one is best for me. Both financially and emotionally.
I can and do meet all the needs of my current dogs. They never go without and I happily afford their care.
But if I only have one I can put double the time and energy into my dog and ensure he always has his best life.

I was a junior pet stylist not too long ago. And I've had a lot of dogs come in that was just not good clients because their owners never put in the effort. I've had the most problems with German shepherds and huskies. I wish the owners could not only have them on a consistent grooming schedule and desensitize their animals to the grooming process to make it less stressful for them.
We have 2 dogs but mostly because they're rescues. One is a Shih-Poo. I'm building up trust with him and learning to groom him. We were taking him to a groomer every month until she developed health issues and cannot do it anymore. With my little guy, he's not wanting me to do his face and his feet but the rest of his body we're doing really better every time. He's black and I'm keeping him trimmed very short so he stays cool this summer so we trim weekly. It's also helping him learn he'll be ok during the grooming process. I need to find those curved scissors and blending scissors to do those 2 areas for him. We're retired and don't have any extra money to invest in any huge system or anything. So I'll have to hope to find these somewhere soon. Thanks for your videos!

You are so right. Glad you did your research and shared that. We have family that had to get a wheaten terrier as well. He lives and was cared for well into late years. I rescue dogs and some were puppies that were opposed, others elder owners died, others just got bad news about moving and family issues. Doodle owners are often overwhelmed I don't think first time owners should get them. I have decades of experience and they are so unique and demanding, sweet but a handful. Can you do a doodle groom that is more like just a trim, ours just has wavy golden retriever hair so not really good for a poodle groom.tx😃
It is a lot of responsibility if you want to have a healthy dog.
Expense on food, grooming and vet visits. We have insurance and even then not everything will be covered.
People still treat dogs like they used to 30 plus years ago. They want simple non expensive no ver cures for illness. They don’t understand why it costs so much to get them groomed.
Don’t get me started on owners of female dogs and the I just want her to have one liter. Ugh why? So they can sell them? Then they don’t get why it cost so much to tend to the puppies. They don’t give them shots unless they are the cheapest they can get. They lie to people when the dogs get parvo. So many wrong choices and the dogs end up suffering.
We don’t deserve them they are way to loyal and we just don’t get it.

Always adopt, don't shop. Save a life. Breeders are lining their pockets while dogs die unwanted, unloved, depressed, and alone in shelters. This goes double for "backyard" breeders. ADOPT, DON'T SHOP!
I've been wanting a pom since I was like 10 and even had a "contract" with my mum a few years later that she'd get me one because she saw the amount of research I've done. Over the years, my parents tried to get me a dog several times but I refused it cause I was just too busy. Now at 26, I've finally had my baby pom for 3 years and he is my everything ❤ I know it's difficult to be patient but I don't think I could've given him the love and attention he'd need if I had gotten him sooner than that.
I have a doodle / danish Spitz mix, we've had him to the groomer every 2nd month since he was 2 month old and it's really paid off. We also train him with objects in his face and wash him frequently, it's really worth the effort to have a good well behaved pup
