Hey @site inspections mate are you able to put details of which builders are the best in each and every state so we can choose who to build with, I think you need to partner up with builders, so when people build they know who to build with.
Basically it will eventually fail and leak. If it’s not installed per the engineered specs, it will not do what it’s supposed to do which is efficiently drain water. Might look okay to the eye but you gotta install thoroughly and per the engineers specs, and with some damn pride and consideration for the people paying you money to do it correctly..

Here is a tip. If you have a salt water pool, don’t put black rubber heating elements on your colourbond roof. I regularly see rust holes in the roofing sheets, gutters and pipe clamps due to leaking systems. Salt water is corrosive!

I’m building a house and I’m paying an inspector to check each stage, he sends me a report then I send it to the builder. Then I go through with the builder and make sure he is going to fix the items, then I check items are fixed before they are covered up. But iv found it’s the home owner who has to make sure the builder fixes the problems. You can’t be hands off on builds these days.
Height restrictions are probably the culprit. You want an extra floor or split level then there is not enough height to have a functional peaked roof. So they put in flat roof.

Price doesn't equal quality. Have every phase of new construction inspected by a privately hired inspector. Have existing dwelling inspected before purchase. Have contingency escape clauses drawn up by a lawyer on all signed contracts (inspectors don't have x-ray vision). The realtor is not your friend. By law (usa) they are required to disclose known defects but they don't. Stay out of court by covering your bases. Cheers.

The quality of work in homes in Australia that i'm seeing from your videos is so bad that if I had money and wanted to build a new home in Australia, i'd probably want to bring a construction team from the USA to build the home for me. I've never seen such piss poor workmanship! Some of the homes you've inspected appear to have been built by someone with zero experience in construction!
You've knocked the nail on the head in one for almost everything we are watching. Designers are drawing things that are not able to be built with the available local skill levels. A designer working in England for a project in The Gambia has to consider the skill level available to build whats needed.

Can you get a solicitor involved in some of these inspections to talk about liability and what the outcomes and what the options are for the client? I'd love to hear what they think about all this. If I purchased a home and it was this bad without me knowing about it, I'd be looking at suing.

It's bank who decide what almost everyone in the market can offer. An individual sale may vary, but in the over all market, banks set prices. The same banks that operate in Qld, operate thoughtout the rest of Australia.
Why should people have to spend money fixing up a brand new home that is totally disgraceful? Obviously, these builders do not care about other people's lives, particularly if it kills someone structurally. Whoever is responsible for all of this should be held accountable.
We had 4 inspections done 3 by the realestate agent and owner and all 3 said no problems, got our own inspector and the list was 2 pages long and he even said don’t buy this house. For us it was a case of awesome views and a nice area so we ended up buying it anyway with the thought we can knock it down in 10 years and build a house we like. Always get a independent inspector from another area to come in as most all work hand in hand with the realestate agents.
According to its real estate sales pitch, the house was "masterfully re-modelled by Award Winning Architects....". The last thing this place needs is more architect form over function ideology.
Such a shame to see a house that looks so beautiful be riddled with so many problems. Is anyone else gobsmacked by the too multi-faceted/overly complicated design of the roof, slopes, and pointing. Asking for trouble unless the box gutter, drainage system/downpipes, and roof builders are really on top of their game and understand the AS standards backwards. You can still purchase a multi-million dollar home, but with a much simpler roof slopes and design.. You'll never see roofs and slopes of this complexity built in snow-bound countries like Switzerland for example...
There's something to be said in favour of "old school" house design and materials. I mean to say, there are hundreds of thousands of over 100 year old "Queenslanders" built almost entirely of timber and have stood the test of the local climate. Torrential rains falling for brief amounts of time! Dumb "trends", stupid architects/draughtsmen, even more illiterate 'builders' and buyers that need to study the ancient saying "Caveat Emptor". Come on people, move past the "Insta-worthy" mentality and into Logic and Physics at the very least, concerning your home/castle.
The QBCC is absolutely useless, I had an QBCC inspector look at my place and if I didn’t point out issues he wouldn’t have done anything about the water leaks, all box guttering, wish I had of known about you.
Its all about the cheapest price nothing else. I pass on many jobs when I wont drop my price. Might be able to get it done cheaper but it isnt to the same standard. You want 30 years experience and a fair price or 3 years experience and a rock bottom price.
I've seen so many roof designs from engineers that don't comply off the plan... I believe around 80% of roofing problems are created at design stage. I've had to fix roof designs with roofs falling towards internal walls. I mean the design "looks" nice but its not functional. (ie. Macarthy Homes has a few designs like this). Engineers need to learn that roofs falling towards internal walls requiring box gutters will become a problem within 5-10 years requiring the roofing sheets to be lifted and a new box gutter to be installed at massive cost. If you can..... steer clear of internal and box gutters! They create too many problems, even if installed correctly.
Over complicated building designs from engineers and trade persons that dont have skills, time or work ethic to do the job correctly. Houses with flat roofs and box gutters look like houses to avoid.
I'm from Europe and I can not understand Australian way of building. I would build a dog house better. Whole house is just some timbers, boards an steel sheets...
After watching a few videos it seems to me that either people are poorly trained, cutting corners for cost or the Australian codes are far too complicated and reference too many areas of the code at once making it difficult to follow. Having said that here in Canada with a ton of severe winter conditions with ice and snow we have a whole lot better educated construction force and very strict inspections as well as a seven year warranty on poor construction events. Hard to believe some of the work I see in your videos. How about pre-built factory gutter systems that could be installed and shower pans that meet your codes? You could then change your standard comment to "compliant" LOL Cheers mate. Great work!
I'm a fan but the last couple of videos haven't been as good. They've focused on more witty banter and less on interesting commentary on the defects, and explaining why they're bad. Also the multimillion dollar homes of wealthy friends arent as relatable to watch

This looks like most of the roofing was done by the labourer off of gumtree for 25 an hr and the boss left the 3rd yr in charge of him to sort it 🤣
imagine spending 3-5 mil and the roof falls apart because of water. It's cheaply constructed with cheap materials and charged for size.

Over complicated building designs from engineers and trade persons that dont have skills, time or work ethic to do the job correctly. Houses with flat roofs and box gutters look like houses to avoid.

After watching a few videos it seems to me that either people are poorly trained, cutting corners for cost or the Australian codes are far too complicated and reference too many areas of the code at once making it difficult to follow. Having said that here in Canada with a ton of severe winter conditions with ice and snow we have a whole lot better educated construction force and very strict inspections as well as a seven year warranty on poor construction events. Hard to believe some of the work I see in your videos. How about pre-built factory gutter systems that could be installed and shower pans that meet your codes? You could then change your standard comment to "compliant" LOL Cheers mate. Great work!

I'm a fan but the last couple of videos haven't been as good. They've focused on more witty banter and less on interesting commentary on the defects, and explaining why they're bad. Also the multimillion dollar homes of wealthy friends arent as relatable to watch
