- There are numerous ways to fish a Ned Rig effectively. In today's video, I show you the infamous "Swim Glide & Shake" retrieve. This is one of Ned Kehde's (as well as my) top retrieves for getting bit. The retrieve is pretty simple to use but make sure to pay attention as there are several tips you can pick up on throughout this video!

Swim, Glide and Shake; sounds like a new dance move. I think this is the retrieve technique I have used the most with the Ned Rig. I was fishing for river smallmouth this past spring in ultra clear water; I could see the smallmouth in the water. When I used the dead stick method they would look at the rig but not hit it. It wasn't until I swam and shook the rig that it triggered a strike. Great explanation of this retrieve technique 🤙
That’s awesome to hear Fitz! I would love to have been there witnessing these big clear water smallies react to the bait. Nothing fires me up quite like watching the fish eat. Always helps anglers learn a lot about how fish act underwater and what makes them tick.
I just found your videos and can't believe I didn't see them sooner!! The Ned rig is my go-to. I've been doing a lot of BFS fishing and the Ned rig is what I like to use on it. I have a variety of Ned rig hooks I like to use, all of them weedless (Gambler Power Ned's, and OneCast Ned heads on an offset hook). I'll use the TRD ticklerz, bugz and crawz, as well as a variety of Ned worms. I've had a dry spell lately and this play list is exactly what I needed to see. Going to practice these techniques when I head out this Sunday. Love your explanations of them and really enjoyed that you kept your camera on your technique the whole time. I don't use spinning rods, so BFS has been a godsend for me. Thanks for making these! And going to watch more after I work on these 5 retrieves. Didn't think about dead sticking either. Sometimes its just good to let the bait sit and allow the current to work its magic.
Definitely going to be using this next time I go out, I’ve even got a few plastics I can use already. Thanks again man for another banger. Dink city for life
Haha love it! Go get them Tyler 🎣🔥
This is the kind of place where I might start harvesting some of the bass. Thin them out a bit and they might get bigger lol.
Probably a good idea!
Good video and info. Nice edits/angles too!
Thank you! 🤠🎣 tight lines!
Definitely my go-to retrieve! Can switch up the cadence to keep it versatile!
Agreed! I use a hybrid of this and the Drag & Deadstick most often!
Awesome vid!!!
Thank you Steve 🤠🎣
I dig this!
Thanks Parker! 🤠👊🏽
3:17 lmao 🤣
Swans 4 life
What was a beautiful war mouth! Those colors!!!!!!
The purple shimmer is so cool looking :D
Best video ever
🤠 thanks Devin!
Looks like a long cast Ethan, how far would you say you are casting ? Just trying to gauge what I should expect for a distance in a cast ! Thanks bud ,really like your channel
Honestly I have such a hard time knowing how far I’m casting. Maybe 60’ or so?
I really like the Slim SwimZ for this retrieve.
100% agree, that was the other bait I was considering for this video but I wanted to try the ShadZ!
Love your yak man.
Thanks Konnor I do too 🤠🛶
@@FishAnything your welcome
That lake would benefit from some Muskie or pickerel introduction. They would thin that bass population down over the years allowing the bass to get to a fatter larger size. When you catch a lot or all skinny but long dinks that is a sign that there is too much competition for the same food source, that’s why they’re biting and fighting so aggressively. Sure it’s fun to catch a bunch of fish but there is probably very few 4,5,6 pounders in that water. Good Ned rig technique vid.
Totally agree with you! Probably not a bad idea to take some fish from this lake to thin out the population and allow them to grow larger. The crazy thing is that there are tons of gills too, so you’d think the bass have plenty of food! Thanks for watching 🤠
Another good video! Can you do one on his you use your fish finder? I bought one but feel like I waste too much time looking for fish vs actually fishing.
Definitely need to do this video in the future, thanks for the suggestion! I use it as a support on the water but I never really look for fish unless I’m targeting offshore schools! I mostly look for contour changes and dropoffs.
I like it👍
Thanks NSA! 🤠
Are you locating the fish with sonar before you cast?
I tend to use my graph predominately to mark depths and weed edges. I use it to mark fish moreso for panfish
I do the same method for river rock flat smallies but with a homejobbie screwlock pin on the ballhead jig and trout worms if it's an unpainted jig, the white or chartreuse trout worms seem to be just off the bottom to the smallies instead of when they're normally threaded onto the hook. what I wish someone made is a small jig like the opposite of a scrounger head, something that slow-wobbles especially on the fall/swing instead of shimmy-swimmin', one can dream.
You never know what will be made next! Sounds like a great idea 🤠
Nice techniques, what kind of ned worm is that? Don’t think I’ve ever seen that style, most of them are just small stick bait like the zman brand.
Zman Finesse Shadz... if you check out Zman's site and look under their finesse baits (in the products category), you'll find several non-stick bait options. This particular one is killer on river smallies and very versatile overall.
mike collins appreciate it, will have to check those out! They look pretty cool.
Thanks for helping out Mike!
Would you say that the Ned rig your go to bait?
It is certainly my #1 confidence bait in the waters I currently fish :D
Is that braded line only?
Nope, I had an 8# fluorocarbon leader on as well!
what rod are you using?
It’s a g loomis gl2 drop shot rod that isn’t made anymore!
The only fish I've ever caught on a ned rig is a crappie. I was surprised when I pulled it out of the water. I have no confidence in it, though.
Keep grinding Frank, you will put it to use one of these days! Just gotta find the right situations. Not all bodies of water are great for the Ned Rig so if it’s not working, don’t give up. Just put it away for a little while!
@@FishAnything there was one situation where I had a HUGE bass on the ned rig. It came off...
😭😭😭
What is your favorite brand of Kayak?
I’m a Native Watercraft angler through and through! Full disclosure I am fortunate enough to be on their pro staff!
I love war mouth I have a ton of them near my dock. They are fun they are bluegil with a bass mouth and a jock personality. They also have a strange taste their meat is more sweet. It's perfect for fish sandwiches.
I wish I had more access to Warmouth around here. Such neat fish!
Hey Smallfish Outdoorsman, what's your FAVORITE ned rig technique?
I use a combination of all these! I tend to be between this retrieve and the drag/deadstick.
Must be some Germans in your family tree also. Like mine.
Haha why’s that? I can’t remember what I said that made you think of that 🤣
@@FishAnything off daa. It means oh my, like oh my goodness . my granny used to say it often when I was 5 or 6 yrs old.
Like when she had to change my siblings diapers.
Haha ooooh now I remember! I’ve got a lot to my family tree but the most is actually Belgian! 🤠🤷🏼♂️
@@FishAnything yea the language kind of runs together in the old countries. Mom is from Germany Granny or Oma was Belgian.
