It's pretty dope that Enemy eventually became so popular that Imagine Dragons made a song in his honor.
@@metal_fusion look out for yourself
And even became a Doctor Who arch villain!

The more I learn about Transformers, the more I love how the fandom can make any little detail or error into a legit character or plot point, even decades later.
same with Mortal Kombat's Ermac and Noob Saibot.
@@vustvaleo8068 Which was short for "Error Macro" if I'm not mistaken.
@@vustvaleo8068 Or Masters of the Universe's Wun-Dar. Or Marvel's Web-Man. Or Disney's Phooey Duck.
@jordan how was your comment posted 6 days ago and the video was posted 3 days ago are you a wizard or did you time travel
People joke that Star Wars will have figures of extras that were on screen for two seconds, but Transformers has a character that originally only appeared in an early draft of the 1986 movie get FOUR toys.
The moral of this story is:
Be careful what you joke about on TFWiki/the internet, it may end up canon.
The term for that is citogenesis; a joke caption from Swoop's wiki page being labeled as his "motto" on an official figure is a good example.
In Enemy's case, though, there's a decent chance Takara would have looked for any previous precedent for any Transformers name attached to the color scheme with or without the wiki page.
I so wanna try that
So. . . zydrate really does come in a little glass vial?
The enemy of Enemy is my friend!
Isn’t that a good thing?
I don't want peace! I WANT PROBLEMS, ALWAYS!
-Enemy
I love the way how on the nose it’s name is. no puns or combinations of existing words it just straight up being called Enemy
It’s like having a Decepticon called Bad guy
true
Antagony was at least a pun
Imagine a dog autobot called “good boy”
@@BobbinRobbin777 bootleg g1 steel jaw
Thats because it is having a decepticon called bad guy.
Yeah but it's got a certain ring to it, sounds really menacing
'his body was eaten by steeljaw' is such a bullshit level obscure joke. I love it.
I don't understand.
The joke.
@@concept5631 I'll be completely honest with you, man; I made that comment over a year ago and today I have no idea what I was talking about
@@samwiseraleigh7833 Man, the joke really was obscure.
It’s not really. Enemy’s first toy is just a head, so here he is, also just a head.
Transformers has a healthy fanbase with oodles of imagination, and the ball bearings to laugh at the franchise and itself.
I met Enemy in a recent Comixology download of the current IDW run and had no idea who he was, so this is timely, Chris - thanks!
The transformers fandom is one of the coolest I've ever seen, there is so much interaction between the creators and fans all the time! Truly one of the best fandoms out there!!
Enemy's Autobot counterpart, Autobot Freedom Fighter (visible on the left at 1:13), also has a tfwiki page that treats him as an actual character. He is described as intensely patriotic but mysterious, with the ability to intercept certain frequencies of electromagnetic radiation and emit sound. And just to clarify, this is all for an AM Radio which looks like an Autobot Symbol, with the article theorising that his unusual appearance is the result of self-modification out of dedication to his job
Ofcourse an A-hole who hates his own comrades would have a Make-myself-a-symbol-cause-imma-patriot as his counterpart on the opposite team. 😁
@UCfbOwIUmvVEtA3eIHtM2bHw is he an autobot??
@@shenglongisback4688 why would Autobot Freedom Fighter be an Autobot? Sounds more like a Predacon to me.
Enemy: Finally, a worthy opponent! Our battle will be legendary!
It’s autobot Tarn! Instead of his face being the faction symbol, it’s his whole body! Unless he got his body eaten too
Autobot commander: Don't let Enemy escape, shoot them!
Autobot Soldier: But we're already shooting the enemy
Autobot Commander: not those enemy, that Enemy! He's getting away!
Autobot Soldier: which enemy?
At least this character does not have to suffer Rumble and Frenzy's identity crisis.
He looks like a combination of both Rumble and Frenzy.
@@Big-Image He does.
@@Big-Image Maybe Rumble & Frenzy were inside Soundwave's chest when he was blown to bits. After they fixed him into Soundblaster, maybe the R&F parts became Enemy?
His color kinda looks like spider man
Yeah, because he's red and blue
The entirety of this guy's character is everyone in canon collectively saying "I hate your fuckin guts" and i love it
There is no better success story. Started life as literally nobody, became a shitpost, only to get an official masterpiece figure XD
I only want a legacy version of this mini guy,i mean look at his design and colors,How pepole don't like a masterpiece like this
Why you sure about this mini guy i love it buddy.
Most people didn’t know he existed. We knew Bumber and Bugbite before we knew this guy
Ah yes it’ll probably be clear plastic
There is, he was in a pack with an orange ratbat and the blue rumble (or frenzy I don't know anymore)
Or at least I think he's enemy.
@@gamerfan1135 Transquito is more underrated than the enemy(this dosn't mean i hate the enemy or transquito)
This is a certified enemy classic, and i respect that
I love this because bionicles have a similar thing with the horrible 'good guy' and 'bad guy' models
"Man screw that guy" - Literally every other person in every Transformers universe regarding Enemy
I dunno why, but it's interesting having him be different than you'd expect considering how other characters are. Don't remember any others being having a "fuck everyone" additude taken to that extreme lol
I find it funny that the dude's name is Enemy. You'd almost think it was a placeholder name for a Vehicon from Prime or generic soldiers from Armada that were cloned en mass
Only in Transformers can a one-gag wiki page turn a toy into a nuanced character. XD
Wow, there was actually a lot of information on this guy for a 7min video. Excellent job. Obscure character month is always a joy!
ENEMY WILL BE AVENGED. Best line I have heard in a while
TFWiki is such an absolute treasure. It's ridiculously informative, but also gut-bustingly hilarious at times. Even non-fans I've shown in it to have gotten a kick out of it.
I'm going to be honest, sometimes I feel like the jokes on there are a little forced or just not that good. But sometimes, a joke is so well done it joins my head-cannon.
If there's one page I always look into that's utterly hilarious to me, it's the one talking about Transformers: Energon. Like us, they bash the shit outta that thing XD
@@cybersilver5816 I agree. I've read TFWiki owner Dave Willis' webcomic and he just isn't funny.
One of my favorites is Animated Wreck-Gar's page, where every image has a line from Weird Al's "Dare To Be Stupid" attached to it.
The fact the entire Wheelie page is done in sing-song rhyme is an absolute treasure
Handy mnemonic:
Rumble is red,
Frenzy is blue,
Enemy is BOTH,
Just to screw with you.
I believe I first discovered this guy through a piece of cute fanart, where Soundwave was being dogpiled by all of the deception cassettes.

I'll get really discouraged with the movie series, or a particular show, and think I've quit this franchise, and then stories like this remind me why I love it all over again. What other franchise turns a voice changer into a character? None, that's how many.
We all have a franchise like that.
Star Wars
He was so obscure that a cosmically powered starscream never found him!
Enemy was the one that caused my injury yesterday. (I injured my leg yesterday and I think Enemy caused it.)
Enemy is an interesting character. Is he one of Soundwave's minions? Also for the next video, I highly recommend Sunstorm. It's winter and we need something to heat up the season.
Love it! I managed to get the Encore and Masterpiece versions of this guy. It's a hoot to flesh out Soundwave's personal army! Now, if only they'd finish off his casettes . . . .
Are some whiout toys?, How Manu?.
@@erugurara8235 Well, there's never been an official Autoscout, and the Beastbox / Squawktalk set has never been re-issued, as far as I know.
Then there are all the "Special" cassettes, like Howlback, Glit, Sundor, Garboil, Flipsides, and fan-character-made-semi-official-guy, Stage-Dive, which are just recolours of existing moulds, but were only available in very limited special sets, usually only available in Japan.
I'd love to see Encore re-issues and Masterpiece versions of them all, some day.
It would be cool to have so many minions for bigger villian, always like villains who create/shoot up a minion into existance since Nappa in dragonball made some, such a cool feeling of power in that action.
from offcial product, to forgotten licensed merchandise to fanfict to official product AGAIN.
now that's an obscure character journey.
Holy shit!!! I had that radio with the Enemy figure that couldn't be removed as a child in the 80s. One night my mother and I picked up some sort of very heated and raunchy one sided conversation from an unknown source. Like a cordless telephone or short wave radio. Who knows, but it's an interesting memory.
Enemy must have done that intentionally so you two would hate him.
I never knew enemy was a character, I want to try and get a figure of him now
I fricking love Enemy so much you can't know how delighted I was when the 2019 comic gave him a speaking role (for more than one issue, no less!)
Likewise a hardcore Bitstream and Hotlink fan, bless you IDW2019, throwing us the obscure character scraps.
I love how the cassette player merch has retroactively become the most hostile music player in creation.
Frenzy and Rumble: who are you supposed to be?
Enemy: *I am you guys but red*
Chris I would love to see an episode on the many kills of the underbased powered starscreem.
I'm looking forward to the day where we start taking everything in the franchise literally like this.
I want to see a story where an Autobot named "Wagetheirbattles" fights to stop a Decepticon weapon named "Evilforces"
Then perhaps there'll be a day when the two sides finally settle their differences and are led by a compassionate 'bot named "Tillallareone." 😛
Nah I prefer a robot name "Ourworlds" who went to planet Mars along with his Team of Autobots who wage their battles to stop the evil forces of the decepticons led by "Indanger" along with his Armada from stealing Energon to create a superweapon to conquer Cybertron.
@@Angel_Love6680 our worlds are in danger
No joke. The day this released, I had seen Enemy at the flea market. I had no idea about the radio he was part of. It's always exciting to see Transformers in the wild.
STARSCREAM: who are you supposed to be
ENEMY: I'm you but worst
This is why I love this community. We gave THIS idiot a name and a backstory.
Probably the funniest part of the Transformers's canon. From joke to icon.
He's the cybertronian equivalent of Mad Dummy from Undertale; always angry and hostile, never satisfied with peace and always trying to find a reason to hate anyone.
Frenzy is Cyclonus, Rumble is the Armada.
Man I always had a love for cassette transformers. I miss them.
Ironic that the one cassette robot everyone hates is the only one we can all agree on his name.
There might be lots like him,but there is only one true ENEMY
As a new IDW continuity fan it was nice for Enemy to get an episode for himself.
If I could nominate a character for this month I'd pick Red Wing. Convoluted origin, recent toy of him made and currently in IDW he's running a monopoly on the Seekers common sense.
You should do an episode on the Mayhem attack squad
Another awesome video Chris!👏🏻
This set of videos on the obscure Transformers is extremely interesting to me as I haven't heard of any of them yet. I would consider myself a more than average fan of Transformers knowing of quite a few characters. But this has been very informative and appealing to learn something new about the franchise's characters. Love your videos man!❤
Oh my god- I had the voice changer! It wasn't great, and gave a lot of feedback if the microphone came too near the voice box....but memories!!😆
Imagine if the kid in the thumbnail saw this video
Soundwave: “Enemy, deploy. Operation-“
Enemy: “Oh, the misery! Everybody wants to be my enemy! Spare the sympathy! Everybody wants to be my enemy!”
Soundwave: “Primus, I should’ve just brought Rumble and Frenzy…”
"The cartoon would famously switch the two character's color schemes, but that's a story for another video."
And I look forward to it.
Watch that be episode 175 of the Basics
What side are you on? RIBFIR or FIBRIR?
@@basedpota RIRFIB. Aside from my preference of Optimus with yellow eyes, that's one of the few things about the original toys that I outright prefer.
Watch that be for April Fools
@@Maswartz226 Or it could be about Ramjet and be composed of entirely false information, keeping with Animated!Ramjet's personality as a compulsive liar.
For example: "In Beast Wars, Ramjet was a Maximal neurosurgeon who turned into a _therizinosaur_ and aided Rattrap in uploading Dinobot's memories to Dinobot II in fan favorite episode 'Dark Glass'".
I think the voice changer was a secondary prize in a contest where you had to collect iron-on reflector patches.
I laughed outloud when you mentioned that Enemy had become an official character thanks to a joke on the fan wiki
Oh that’s awesome! It took me a long time to collect them but I have all the cassettes and sound waves. It’s super cool to see you doing the basics on the cassettes
At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a transformers character named freedom fighter out there.
Welp I have no regrets on saying this:
*Enemy spotted*
I had that portable radio. God, but it was a cheap pile of crap. I remember that the radio part broke pretty quickly, but I kept the housing with the robot on it for some time. I think he broke when I tried to pry him off, and I tossed the whole thing.
I simply LOVE him, what a fucking gremlin King
Chris has just made the greatest mistake of his career, picking a side between FIRRIB and FIBRIR.
After months of waiting, I finally got to use Enemy in my Transformers RPG campaign.
I love how you did a video on enemy before any other cassette (besides the two chads)
After watching this video, Enemy is my new favorite cassete
A character so obscure he technically didnt exist
I love enemy's sense of logic so much.
Guess bro really be beefing with everybody
When your joke becomes legit lol
this is one of the best April fools jokes that turned into cannon. I love it.
i really wish Autobot: Freedom Fighter was another character that ended up like Enemy, would make it full circle
Enemy should have only one friend…. Nemesis Prime
That enemy comic was brilliant
4:17 I know it's probably supposed to be that he does it so that *he* has the most enemies.
But another way of looking at it is that he does it so that everyone has at least one enemy, him. That's kinda sweet in a weird way.
When you have friend named 'enemy' you don't need any more beef.
"With the red and black one becoming the Deception Rumble and the blue one becoming his brother Frenzy" HERESY!
Love obscure characters month, no clue how you do it, but thank you for doing it lol
Speaking of obscure Transformers toys, I had the Decepto-Pack. A plastic backpack that transformed into a wearable Transformers costume. Complete with laser pistol and a shield worn on the forearm. Not too many people seem to remember this item. Perhaps you could cover the Decepto-Pack in a future video? I believe it would be an interesting subject to explore. Just a thought.
In the animated series, the red and black decepticon is Frenzy and the blue one is Rumble.
Huh, never knew there was a red and blue cassette bot pre-Transformers before now. I had always thought Enemy's impetus had been those tie-in merchandise things. The more you know!
God I remember having the voice changer back in 87, dad used to moan like hell whenever I was playing with my Transformers and I wasn't using it
"Not to be confused with Cobra the Enemy". TFwiki's full of bad comedy, and I love it!
I hope he eventually does Sqweeks but there is not enough on the little guy to do a full video. Personally, my favorite toy of the movie line with both a fantastic trailer gimmick that unfolded into a mobile garage and an awesome cannon arm. I'm hyping him up to hopefully get him some attention so sorry if this sounds like a commercial for him.
Bro I love him too great character to bad he got left in the dust
This reminds me of the time I was a small child. My family would accompany my grandmother, an expert in crafts, to a local bazaar. I was bored because I didn't see any toys to beg my mom to buy. Eventurally, on one of these trips, I got a couple of those Micros cassettes. I think it was the Ravage and Frenzy cassettes that I ended up getting, and maybe Laserbeak. Can't remember exactly, but I knew and did not care that they were not branded Transformers.
funny story: This transformer is actually my introduction to the series! It's true. Naturally as a kid, I'd heard the names of the iconic ones before, but one time on the school playground my friend asked if I wanted to play transformers with him. I said yeah and given that I wasn't a fan yet my friend decided I could be one of the characters with little to them, so I could fill in the blanks with whatever I wanted. When I got home, I googled just who this "Enemy" was and further looked into the series, and the rest is history. So yeah, Enemy was my intro to the world of Transformers.
This is the most on-the-nose Decepticon name ever. Other than Deathsaurus.
Now I’m thinking of Enemy banging at a door to be let in, or *Enemy at the Gates* if you will
Great video and back story, I have the encore release
That was a weird episode. I loved it
I Love the Basics and I'm always looking forward for the next vid!!!
PLEASE DO LIOKAISER!!!
Thanks for all the hard work you put into this:)
I did a series of fan stories called "Rungian Analysis" writing a psychological profile from members suggestions. Enemy was one.
Hey for Obscure Character Month, can you talk about the IDW Character Blackwall? He was in the original IDW Run in Autocracy, Monstrosity, and finally Primacy. He was mostly just a minor background character but he had such a cool look to him.
So great to find new characters i didnt know about after all these years.
I really enjoy your Transformers Basics series. Though I have a request/suggestion. What do you think about doing a Basics side series on G.I. Joe? I really enjoyed the video about the G.I. Joe crossovers, and I think a side series about G.I. Joe would be really cool.
This makes me smile
Even amongst the Bionicle fandom, TFWiki is well regarded because of their references to Bionicle in some pages. It's honestly one of the most well run wiki sites.
0:58 rumble is purple/blue frenzy is red even though that wasn’t the case originally that how I was introduced to them as someone who didn’t grow up during g1
Head canon: Enemy is the black sheep/dark secret of Soundwave's Tapes, who did things so unspeakable that Soundwave sealed him away.
I remember the Transformers Mosaic of Enemy, in that comic it was revealed that Enemy was the true assasin of Optimus Prime
I love my The Basics Saturday mornings!! What a way to start the day
He in a 4 pack now for Transformers Generations Selects Micromaster WFC-GS10 Soundwave Spy Patrol (3rd Unit) 4-Pack Decepticon Frenzy, Decepticon Wingthing, Decepticon Skar and Autobot Knok alt modes fit inside the chests of WFC-S25 Soundwave and WFC-S55 Soundblaster figures
That's a different character named Knok, based on one of Doubledealer's Powermaster engines.
An Enemy to absolutely everyone. Now that's a personality.
