Rudnick While loving days of future past especially that they had the guts to make it the main timeline thus killing all the characters we grew up watching giving the future far more emotional impact, I still would've liked one sequel to Last Stand showing the after effects of the cure and dark Phoenix's rampage magneto regains his powers and such show the unveiling of the original sentinels and use it to set the stage for days of future past. As I already said I am very pleased with what we have but TLS left plenty of intriguing places to go and could've had a sequel before DOFP. Despite this there is still an answer the cure's effects must either be temporary or stronger willed and more powerful mutants can overcome it's effects. I for the longest of times before we got DOFP thought Apocalypse was behind the cure using it to separate the strong mutants from the weak.
jerry del rio First Logan takes place in the new timeline created by DOFP I'm pretty sure it does anyway. As for Xavier's death in TLS a post credit scene shows Xavier transferring his conscience into another body where he wakes up and greets Moria this is the same body he was discussing the issue of morality with his students, paying off the set up. The Wolverine has another post credit scene where Logan returns to America and meets Magneto who is with an alive Xavier that Logan is shocked to see, the sentinels are hinted at here. X men actually used post credit scenes before Marvel studios did back when they weren't common so some not knowing them is understandable.
There was a distinct lack of enjoyment in watching that movie last night. There were some funny scenes and jokes, but after DOFP being so amazing, Apocalypse let me down big time.
+DuckHuntDynasty for x-men apocalypse wasn't great bur still good or at least decent. But I can't believe it that neither charles or erik had a chess scene !
Not to mention Charles has no interest in entering Erik's mind. Charles is fair and needs Erik to willingly choose his path, whether in chess or in life.
+Rachel Seifrit Late reply, but the dark pieces are also made out of metal for his set. Not as coincidental as you think. Magneto can play a game with xavier by just being nearby, without having to show himself for safety.
I always thought the ending scene to Last Stand was sad. Magneto truly lost everything. He lost his supporters and his friend Charles. No one is around him giving him company and no one is playing with him. Most people think he is simply trying to regain his powers but I think it is symbolism of him trying to get back on his feet. Hence why he is strugling to move the chess piece.
All those chess scenes are amazing and a symbol of Erik and Charles' relationship. It's like they play a game in which both are on opposite sides. And yet it's still a game. My favorite chess scenes have to be the one at the end of Xmen3 with Mckellen and the last one from DOFP on the plane
I'm guessing that the CHESS SCENES are symbolic with the whole war that Charles and Magneto have in the first place. Like when Magneto moves the chess piece in the credits scene, it's SYMBOLIC that he's still ABLE TO FIGHT...with what LITTLE strength of his powers he still has left in him...or even that he CAN fight even WITHOUT his powers, though that's not likely since he thinks humans are below him and to be HUMAN for Magneto is to be dead for him...As wtihtout powers, he feels inept as a mutant... I also LOVE the past films of Charles and Magneto as younger versions...It's more relateable and you feel like you're there and everything starts to make sense of the first three movies.
Jay Sapph De Even though Magneto and Proffesor X are enemies and have totaly different causes and motivations, they never stoped seeing eachother as friends. That is what I love most about these two.
I love the line, "Might finally be a fair fight," because it's the closest they come to acknowledging Charles's telepathy in the context of chess games. I always wanted Erik to point out that Charles could be, and very probably is, cheating, and Erik would have no way of knowing. Because of course Charles would claim that he only reads people's minds with their permission, and yet he actually seems to be reading everyone's mind all the time, just sort of automatically. Or at least when he first meets them. Such as when he spills Hank's secret, because he knows he's a mutant upon meeting him (but apparently doesn't know that the CIA official is unaware of this--that always bumped me), or the Charles-Erik exchange, "What do you know about me?" "Everything." I'd also be very interested to know what the win-loss record between them is. We know that Charles won the game at the end of X-Men, but does Erik ever win? I'd love to see something like, "You win again, Charles, what a surprise," or a game where Erik is wearing his helmet, and a line about, "You seem to be having a much harder time than usual, Charles; I wonder why?" The Charles-Erik is my favorite part of X-men, and I especially love their chess games, both literal and metaphorical.
Reading your opponent's mind would never get you an advantage in chess. If your opponent is better than you, all you can achieve is equality by tapping into their thoughts.
@Trevor White I doubt it, whenever Charles tried to get in Erik's head, Erik would aknowlage that he felt Charles clattering around in his mind. if Charles was cheating, then Erik would have known.
Pawns also takes an important role for both offense and defense, losing like 1 or 2 can reveal an opening that can be exploited by your opponent. Even stronger chessmen are used to support and protect pawns.
Charles said this in the first X-Men movie and then in X-2 the government actually raids the school in the middle of the night and comes for the children. And Wolverine basically massacres them.
I love how Magneto always have the dark pieces, I feel like it sums up his character. In chess the white pieces always make the first move and the dark pieces only counter attack after having been attacked in the first place, and although Magneto is portrayed as a vilain because of his radical methods to obtain a decent life for mutants which are seen as terrorism, when you think about it he actually only tried to hurt humans as much as humans hurt him/other mutants in the 1st place, he almost never initiated the hostilities

None of it happened. Still canon, but in story, they changed the timeline from WAY before a lot of the movies, including most of X-men origins Wolverine.
0:40 sorry I really like these scenes but this is just the worst move "I'm going to use my knight to take that pawn so he can take my knight on his turn and also have me check" magneto ladies and gents.
0:15 was fancy tactics but out of order where you give 7 for 6 when you could give 2 for 3 by just doing the initial fork with king & bishop for knight to take, leaving opponent's king open either way tho so I leave as I came, by calling this some fancy tactics for movie standards
Two things. A) Xavier is not trading pieces here. Removing the third defender of the b2 tile by sacing the rook for the knight leads to a mate in three by pawn. Pushing the pawn while the knight is still there "only" leads to a 9 point material win. (The pawn is not forking king (a1) and knight (d1) as they are 2 tiles apart not 1. The angle + the glass board are certainly not making understanding the position particularly easy. I had to build the position for myself on a separate board to even start to understand what was going on.) B) Xavier is up a shit ton of material. in that situation you wanna trade as many pieces as possible. Being up a bishop when there are only pawns and that bishop left is way better than being up a bishop when no other pieces have left the board. So a 6 for 8 points trade is usually better than a 1 for 3 points trade (especially when you are loosing one less real piece than your opponent).
+Sophia Wilson Yes because after X-Men 3, it is shown after the end credits of The Wolverine that Eric fully has his power back before it's showcased again in X-Men Days of Future Past.
The ones directed by Singer seem natural, but the X3 one with Charles looked odd seeing as he was playing alone and the one in First Class looked ridiculously out of place.
Th. Noatak Sorry, not Charles, Magneto. Eric. And I think the reason it looked odd to me was that the chess scenes were always a dialogue between Eric and Charles. Him playing alone, which I get is a way of remembering Charles and also to express his loneliness, just looks odd because there's not a topic being discussed or even another player. There's also the thing of him using his power in public... Maybe him playing chess alone is a metaphor for him being conflicted with his own thoughts, but if that's the case I think the film could have expressed it better than the way it did. I like X3 though, don't get me wrong.
Th. Noatak Oh my bad, I hadn't seen the film in a while. And I get that analytically you can probably shred the movie, it's just on a personal level I like it :) And I totally agree about the conflict idea!
Th. Noatak Oh, I wasn't saying you were shredding it, but just that it could be shredded as a film. I'd need to watch it again, but with my reviewer hat on it's a 5/10, but from a personal bias standpoint it's a fun movie with big moments in it. That, and Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are always wonderful to watch. Especially together.

X Men most definitely loves chess, huh?
Hackman mcavoy and fassbender. What a combooo
Am I the only one who wants to see a full chess game between Charles and Eric?
so after days of future past the first 3 xmen never happened?
None of it happened. Still canon, but in story, they changed the timeline from WAY before a lot of the movies, including most of X-men origins Wolverine.
MrMachine Dude
Apocalypse
magneto: in chess, the pawn go first
knight: bitch plz
They are very Dumbledore and Grindelwald.
Chess has always been a factor to the X-Men movies as both sides use different strategies to play the game
X-Men and chess are like Spider-Man and final swings
When you think about it it’s really a good thing Xavier isn’t evil the whole world would literally be under his thumb.
"in chess,pawns go first"
me playing with Réti Opening:👁️👄👁️
“In chess, the porn goes first.”
At 1:19 he said in chess the porns go first.
Whoa.....
dude.how old are
+THE DEADPOOL that immature kid
Lol the word for the little front ones is pawns it is pronounced the same though
wow. such maturity, many funny...
0:40 sorry I really like these scenes but this is just the worst move "I'm going to use my knight to take that pawn so he can take my knight on his turn and also have me check" magneto ladies and gents.
2:38 maybe they are both just bad, Charles just throws away his queen with this brilliant move.
What chess set is that shown in Charle's study room at 1:05? and where can you get it?
This might sound a bit like a fan theory, but i think charles and eric like to play chess. But im not sure.
you missed the the checkmate charles got on magneto at the end of part one. that was the best
I think it was "almost checkmate" few steps away. Erik begrudgingly surrendered before he got checkmated
1:47. A whole life a crime and when he got caught he got placed in the elderly home.
2:03 haha, that's what you get
One last one for some old friends.
You need to update the chess compilations
I think Magneto likes Chess
I had to build the position for myself on a separate board to even start to understand what was going on.)
B) Xavier is up a shit ton of material. in that situation you wanna trade as many pieces as possible. Being up a bishop when there are only pawns and that bishop left is way better than being up a bishop when no other pieces have left the board. So a 6 for 8 points trade is usually better than a 1 for 3 points trade (especially when you are loosing one less real piece than your opponent).
professor x really likes chess
Seeing magneto in that senior care home wearing regular clothes was pretty sad
In chess the pawns go first
Cool.
ok question did the chess piece move? Did Eric get his ability back?
+Sophia Wilson
Yes because after X-Men 3, it is shown after the end credits of The Wolverine that Eric fully has his power back before it's showcased again in X-Men Days of Future Past.
gent777 Thank you for infor
+Th. Noatak whatabout mystique ?
Mystique is a QUEEN.
playing chess with xavier? never mind
Imagine a game of chess between two telepaths (Jean and Charles)
I cant even play chess in real life well😂
Alex Matthew Why did you have to add the "in real life" part. You're not going to be able to play it anywhere else if you can't play it at all?
is this captain piccard?
Erik and Charles used play chess in the 60s.
3:05 to 3:07 transition was funny
Wonder if Magneto has ever beat Xavier at chess. Xavier can read minds and technically cheat at any time LOL.
the new trilogy chess scenes feel forced AF
Add one last one.
Why the hell would magneto sacrifice a knight for a pawn and leave himself open to be taken by a pawn in the next move
He had no other option
The ones directed by Singer seem natural, but the X3 one with Charles looked odd seeing as he was playing alone and the one in First Class looked ridiculously out of place.
Th. Noatak
Sorry, not Charles, Magneto.
Th. Noatak
Oh my bad, I hadn't seen the film in a while. And I get that analytically you can probably shred the movie, it's just on a personal level I like it :)
And I totally agree about the conflict idea!
Th. Noatak
Oh, I wasn't saying you were shredding it, but just that it could be shredded as a film.
I'd need to watch it again, but with my reviewer hat on it's a 5/10, but from a personal bias standpoint it's a fun movie with big moments in it. That, and Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are always wonderful to watch. Especially together.
ive heard of these chest parks if i can all like that, its pretty much random as for example one already sitting waiting for someone to join for a...match?sorry not naturally english speaking.
why is magneto playing by himself at 1:30
+EthanshlAUS wow thats interesting. i havent seen the last stand yet but plan too... at least magneto shows some emotion towards charles.
because at the very end the chest piece starts to movie slightly, showing the serum´s effects arent seemingly lasting 4ever? xD
