It's really quite tragic that Erik in a sense emulated the very mindset of the people who stole his life and his humanity. The Nazis believed they were the master race, that all other forms of life were beneath them and so had no problem murdering them in droves. Erik would go on to think the same was true of Mutants as well, they were the future, humans were obsolete and not deserving of survival, and didn't care how many he would have to kill. His back story is sad and perhaps understandable, but in his quest for revenge he became the very thing he sought to destroy.
To a certain extent Eric developing some tenants of Nazi ideology was a response to the world around him. An essential component of Nazi ideology is that there’s an enemy trying to destroy the race. That enemy can be jews, communists, doesn’t matter- the point essentially follows that, if you don’t embrace the nazi strongman and follow his every whim, there will be no other way to stop the destruction of the entire world, though more specifically, the race/nation. Eric has not only gone through the personal experience of having an out group attempt to see his entire ethnic/religious group exterminated, but he’s also seen the governments of the earth, on multiple occassions, take steps to exterminate mutants or limit their rights. Nazi ideology *needs* this threat to survive, otherwise there’d be no possible rationalization for any actions they take. It’s easy to commit a Holocaust and invade another country if you believe that if you don’t, everyone you’ve ever known and loved will be annihilated. How much easier would it be to become a Nazi if the governments of the world *tried shooting missiles at you for who you are?*
