@@Jessalli Thanks again! I finished the project today and most likely would've done something crazy with the neckline + lining step if I hadn't returned to your video, plus it was reassuring to see where you had used the overlocker on the steps.
Oh Sophia thank you for the sewalong, I really enjoy them. I just love your weights I do the same I use whatever is handy in my sewing room. I was sewing as you sewed but not a garment right now making a gift....
Question about the sleeves! When you say "smaller circle in the bigger circle" do you mean your doing the lining earlier on? otherwise idk what small circle your referencing..
Perfect timing for I am making my first coat. :-) Just a suggestion: to keep pieces straight I use one pin to keep the fabric pieces attached to its corresponding pattern piece until I'm ready to use them. Also, to keep the right side/wrong sides identified, when they look very similar like your wool does, I put a pin in the right side.
Thanks for a fab tutorial. I’m consider cutting out one pair of sleeves in lining fabric so that I won’t have 3 layers of wool (bit bulky). Can you foresee any problem with doing this?
Thank you for this sewalong! I have made this coat but the lining did confuse me.looking forward to seeing how you did this. Thanks again, I really enjoy your videos
I actually used a medium weight so it wouldn't be too bulky. In general try and use a similar weight to your fabric. I always use Vlieseline brand as it's the best by far. x
I love your videos Showing us How To, beginners like me appreciate them You are so relaxed and calm. I have some 100% boiled wool would that pattern work ?
Hi! Thank you very much for this video. I’ve just got the pattern and I’m ready to cut but I’m confused with the cutting instructions and I want to make sure I don’t mess up. I was wondering if you could help me...the lining cutting instructions say to cut on the fold on the wrong side of the fabric out and I think you did it in your video on the right side...am I interpreting the instructions incorrectly?
I got for this pattern an slightly hairy fabric and I was thinking of lining the sleeves instead of doing doubled fabric. Also my sewing teacher told me that lining would be better to slide the arm in. I saw from your comments below that you really liked the idea of double fabric lining. I’m torn between both options, I don’t know what to do now
I've been making this coat on an off since before Covid!! Just done a final toile and ready to go. But I've just watched the end of Part 1 and was surprised as it looks like you cut four sleeves out of the main fabric. Not sure I saw this in the instructions?????
Hi Jenny, yes it's the Washable Wool Heavy Coat Fabric : www.minervacrafts.com/shop/fabric/dress-fabrics/c6251-m-washable-wool-heavy-coat-weight-dress-fabric?colour=Black :D x
Really dumb question: what comes in the package when you buy a pattern? Just instructions? Do you have to draft the pattern pieces? Sorry, I'm brand new to sewing .
Perla Aguilar Not a dumb question at all! So you'll get the instructions, pattern pieces which you can trace in various sizes, usually a cutting guide and information about how much fabric you need, the size measurements etc. 😊 Hope that helps! ✂️ Xx
Thank you for the tutorial. Is there a way for me to turn off the whistling? It's difficult to keep turning the sound off and then back on to hear what you are saying. Thank you!
I have this pattern in my shopping basket, but am terrified to buy and try it. I cannot wait to see part two! Why did the sleeve need to be double layered, could it not just have a lining for the second layer? Anyway Jessalli as I said before part 2 excited!!!
You should! Honestly it's a great pattern and I wear mine all the time. (I have two!) I'm not sure why but I'm glad the sleeves are double sided, so much warmer. :) x
I was so happy when I came across this video! Thank you. I have a question- when doing step 4 (Stitch together front and back pieces at the shoulders and side seams. Repeat for other side. Press seams open.) did you clip into the curve of the under arm seam? Thanks x
Hi Cora, sorry for the late reply, I'm pretty sure I've seen your finished coat on instagram so SORRY again! But I did clip into the curves a little bit. :) x
Oh no! Please stick with it, just practice cutting out lines and curves. It will be so useful when cutting out stretch fabrics once you get the hang of it. :) x
Just about to make this…your sewalongs are excellent and so helpful! Thank you!
Thank you so much! x
Thank you SO MUCH for doing this pattern with us. I am right now looking at the pieces and needing help!
You are so welcome! x
Ready to make my first one this weekend, so watching this has helped ease my pre-project anxiety. Thank you!
You'll love it Jessica. I have been told the updated pattern has a slightly different hem to this video, so just watch out for that. x
@@Jessalli Thanks again! I finished the project today and most likely would've done something crazy with the neckline + lining step if I hadn't returned to your video, plus it was reassuring to see where you had used the overlocker on the steps.
Your sewalongs are fab. Thank you for taking the time to do these sewalongs. I've learnt so much from you - thank you. ☆
Aww thank you Kate that's so sweet! I really appreciate it! :)
Just ordered my pattern! Can’t wait! Haven’t watched yet. Excited already.heard so many great thing about your tutorial.
Aww thank you so much Kristen, thats so sweet. It's honestly such a great pattern and I love my coats (yes I have 2!! haha) x

Thanks Val! :)
Just about to start mine, so really helpful to have this vlog
So glad! Good luck! x

Aww Angela, so nice to hear! And I'm glad I'm not the only who uses whatever is near to hold down pieces! haha. :)
I am sewing this coat at the moment, and your video is really helpful! Thanks
Aqualaina my pleasure! Glad I could help! 😊 X
Excellent sewalong. I have the pattern without instructions. This and part 2 have been invaluable
Aww Thank you so much Clare! Glad I could help! :) x
Love the idea of cutting out fusible first.
Thank you! x
so wonderful, this is one of the patterns I ordered this fall, so I'll be following this!
Thanks for watching Tina! :)
Read ahead on the instructions -- the best advice!
Question about the sleeves! When you say "smaller circle in the bigger circle" do you mean your doing the lining earlier on? otherwise idk what small circle your referencing..
I'm not 100% sure what you mean but I didn't use lining fabric inside the sleeves, so I cut four pieces from the same fabric. x
Thank you for sharing! Maybe I missed it, but did you size down?
No I actually made my size. It was the smallest anyway. x
Perfect timing for I am making my first coat. :-)

Thank you , excited for part 2
Thanks Jillian! :)
I love ❤️ your channel and videos
Thank you. x
Thanks for a fab tutorial. I’m consider cutting out one pair of sleeves in lining fabric so that I won’t have 3 layers of wool (bit bulky). Can you foresee any problem with doing this?
I really don't think so, no. It'll just be less cosy. If you're fabric is super thick, might be a better idea. Thanks for watching!! :) x
JessalliHandmade thanks. I’ll go for it as I also found 3m of fabric wasn’t enough!
Looking great so far x
Thank you Gill! x
Hi, what type of interacting should I use please?
Sorry, interfacing!
Sorry Tracey, Your interfacing should be the same weight as your fabric, and Iron-on is always easiest. x
Thank you for this sewalong! I have made this coat but the lining did confuse me.looking forward to seeing how you did this. Thanks again, I really enjoy your videos
Thanks Stephanie, it means a lot. Hopefully will have part 2 up Wednesday! :)

@@Jessalli I've just finished the coat and looks amazing. Your videos helped me greatly! Thank you very much!
Could this be made in a fleece fabric? I've just bought the pattern.
Definitely! I don't see why not and it would be super snuggly! :) x

Could you tell me the name of the black woollen fabric from Minerva Crafts please. Keep the sewing videos coming they are great.

Sorry, I couldn't help giggling when I saw you using five pairs of scissors as pattern weights but cutting the fabric using a rotary cutter!🙂
Haha I've been doing it for so long I just do it so casually now haha. Need to invest in some proper weights!! :P
My grandmother always used butter knives to hold down her patterns. :)
