It's a lovely kit. I just bought a used one on Ebay too, and am about halfway through building it now. The same light blue plastic, and very delicately done rivets which look good. A great looking plane.

I built this kit a couple of years ago. It was molder im white plastic. Yes many of the parts were loose but all there. I used crystal clear for the windows. Didn't really care about the interior, you can't see it anyway. Plus the markings are for a RCAF machine. It can be improved with some after market details, which I may eventually do.

10/6 is actually 52 and a half pence. 😉 Back in a time when we actually had coins that were worth one quarter of 1 pence. The farthing.

Hey Stephen , I built one in the early sixties and when finished my Dad put it on his greenhouse roof as a weather vane . Happier times then even with the Cold War threat ,thanks for the memory jolt mate .👍

I remember buying one of these with my first ever paper-round money! The plastic was hard-white stuff back then. Was a bugger with that old fashioned poly-cement.
Love this plane. There was a Shorts factory on the river Medway where I grew up. I also went through the one at the RAF museum in Hendon, a few times.
Look forward to the build Simon.

Thanks Alan. Yes RAF Museum in Hendon....I spent a good half an hour examining their Junkers Stuka in 1995.......a very fond memory of mine.

Look forward to see how this one goes together, I wish Airfix would retool some of these fantastic aircraft or at least re-release them. I have a similar vintage Airfix B24 Liberator in a rebox, those gunners look very similar. Sunderland kits are nearly as rare as the real thing...😮 I purchased a Special Hobby Mk5 Porcupine and this looks pretty good; I agree not sure if undercarriage down does it justice ... The box artwork is nice too and I love the caption... 'Fighting Commies in Europe and the Far East'... 😀

Yes this one is getting built after the Stuka.....so should be good fun! I like the idea of trying to make the best out of an old and sometimes bad kit. I have the old Airfix Short Stirling as well which will definitely get built 👍 The Porcupine is wonderful IMO... so it will be a nice addition to my growing fleet 🙂 Thanks for your great comments Nick.

The best model aircraft art work is the 1961 box art of the Sunderland in a dog fight with a Nazi Condor bomber.
    Love it as a poster.

I've never been a fan of the flying boat. They just don't seem right to me. I was in the Sea Cadet Corps (T.S. Boscawen in Weymouth in the early 1970's) as a boy but I also had a passion for aeroplanes so you'd think I would like them. Is it a boat? Is it an aeroplane? No! It is neither. 😁 Just my opinion. As Ratty said in Wind in the Willows: "There's nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats but what if your boat is actually an aeroplane?" 😁
A good unboxing, nonetheless, but not really to my personal taste.

Flying Boat = Boat Plane.......take your pick......probably Boat Plane is better.......😂👍
