Honestly, the Chitauri were absolutely needed in that set. Imagine all those 20+ Superheroes in a set with a big fish, Ultron, Loki, and his bodyguard as villains? I think 4 Chitauri is a good number for a set like this, it feels like Loki's army is arriving

They used that quinjet because probably it is the most iconic design, and also it's simpler to render at a smaller scale. The Age of Ultron quinjet is too sleek to be even recognizable at that scale and blockiness :)
Yeah, i feel like that this set is more like an MCU playset centered on the Avengers Tower rather than an actual reproduction of the scenes revolved around it in the movies. (An optional Stark sign would have been awesome in that regard) @@TiagoCatarino
@FrancescoDedo stark sign would have been pointless without a ton of extra pieces. The stark tower is more white, grey and brown, whereas this has a ton of blue. Also the window areas look very different. So you would need at least like 1000 pieces to turn it into the stark tower, if not like 2000.
Stan Lee minifig would have been a fun inclusion. Unless someday they do a Stan Lee gift with purchase of his office, with him at his drawing / writing desk 🤔
It appears that Coulson has had only one minifig, being part of Detroit Steel Strikes (76077-1), a set based on a Lego Avengers cartoon. I agree that he should have been represented here, since he was the connecting piece across all of Phase 1, and his death is what brought the team together in the first place.
I think The Wasp is included because in the original Avengers comics she was one of the founding members along with Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man, and The Hulk

I love how this set can either be a clean display piece or by adding all the figures around it gives it a more 'diorama' type feel and adds some good little story elements making the set look a bit more alive.
I'm so glad LEGO does sets like these so well. I feel like they have stepped up the last couple of years and started making these really colossal sets, and it's really awesome. And although some of their minifigure choices are strange, I think they are usually the right choice. For example, I am glad they include 4 chitauri because from my knowledge, we have never gotten chitauri figures, and it would be hard to feel like an army of aliens is attacking the tower, with only one or two minifigures included. Overall seems like a really great set!
I think that they included Ant-Man and the Wasp because in the comics they were the founders of the Avengers toghether with Hul, Iron Man and Thor, so maybe, they included them as a tribute

Really appreciate the LEGO designers for finally bringing this build to us, but sadly too many poorly-made compromises. Beautifully designed building, but that this price point aiming for hardcore fans, I'd rather have it be $50-100 more for better minifigures and much more accurate details... Not only is Bugle cheaper, figures are by and large better quality, better value for money, this set just isn't what I would be remotely satisfied with for Half A Thousand Dollars. i think there's good stuff here but am broadly disappointed. That's a pretty good point. What I liked about the Daily Bugle set is that it represented various eras and incarnations of the character. Kinda wish they had done more of that here instead of making it MCU focused, but they already had a large cast of characters to deal with.
I think the Quinjet included in the set is the Quinjet Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Captain America used to get to New York and end up crashing in the first Avengers.

The who is iron man newspaper actually has a bit of real world history. Someone took a picture of rdj in the suit on the set of iron man 1 during filming and leaked it online, and marvel would later use the image in the movie as the cover of that newspaper
It’s nice how you can put a minifigure inside the quintet as it is scaled down to fit the build but it’s good got playability and it also matches the style and scale of the build

The only one that makes sense out of all three of those is Wong because he was actually there like he existed at the time. Kevin Fiege’s ego probably wanted a Lego mini figure and then I don’t have anything for the wasp.
I really like the Translucent Vision Blue Green Minifigure color. I give them big points for that. I think your suggestions to include Agent Coulson and an Iron Legion are reasonable. This set loses a lot of points for putting a random kevin feige fanboy minifig in the set, he isn’t even canon.
I'm really hoping to get this set for Christmas, though I don't think it's going to connect very smoothly to my only other large set, ninjago city gardens
and Rhodes all were at the tower at the start of Age of Ultron. Wanda was there for the birth of Vision. Wasp was included due to being a OG comics Avenger and Wong was there for synergy with last years modular.
The Wasp is in this set because since thee is a comic, and in the comic, wasp is there, so the designer wanted to include all the heroes in that comic.
That quinjet is more like the one in the first Avenger movie, fitting with the theme of the Chitauri battle character mini-figs, and probably easier to model than the sleaker designed quinjet. Which all that does not fit at all with the tower design in this set.
The quintet comes from the first avengers movie its what cap Natasha and Clint used to get to Manhattan. It also has other less prominent appearance throughout the movies
It’s probably the Quinn jet from the first movie that Hawkeye crashes. It’s got those two fins in the back the foldable wings like a Quinn jet for shield.
Better to put on Ultron's Iron Legion fig, two 1x1 dark gray studs under his feet to give him some height. He look too short as a regular fig with regular head piece.

Out of everyone reviewing this set, who are part of the ambassador program, your review is the best and most honest about what could have been better and what SHOULD have been better. The fact hawkeye nore Eric Selvig have a second faceprint with the blue eyes is the first big inaccuracy I’ve noticed when it was first revealed, and you are litteraly the first and only reviewer who calls them out on those mistakes. Offcourse whe could have gotten other figures instead of double Tony’s, nick fury, but it’s not as a agregious decision as the lack of accuracy on the whole brain wash aspect of the two previously named figs, wich was the reason Eric Selvig was on top of the tower to begin with. You did mention not understanding what Wanda was doing here, but there is actually a very important scene in age of ultron, where she, her brother quicksilver, cap, Tony stark and Thor battle it out to prevent vision from beeing born, so instead of Wong or wasp whe SHOULD have had quicksilver to complete the charachters from that iconic scene. Talking about that, leads me into my 3rd biggest gripe I have with this set; Why a loki helicarrier jail cell, instead of a vision birth chamber where the previous mentioned scene takes place? I feel swapping out Wong for quicksilver, the jailcell floor for a visions birthpod, and dual molded legs for both captain americas would have virtually made this set perfect for me. Whe have come a long way with marvel Lego, but I feel like there is still much to do when it comes to making Lego understand that most people buying this set are going to be AFOLS(16+ at the least) and that those people want the Star Wars UCS treatment if it comes to €500 sets like these in therms of accuracy and details, often concering minifigs across the IP. The GWP actually shows and proofs my point when it comes to the whole “UCS” treatment for the marvel IP.. outriders??, and a plain black panther??, with a SINGLE seater cab??… that’s the part where I’m not feeling treated siriously as a Lego Marvel AFOL, wich they do get when it comes to the Star Wars IP, so there is no excuse IMO.
12:35 in the designer reveal video, the curved roof is removed as well. I feel like the is is an awesome set but some rooms could be based on actual scenes rather than moments in the saga.

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver did visit Avengers Tower at the end of Age of Ultron so I'm a little bummed that Quicksilver wasn't included (he was picking out running shoes!).

Hey Tiago! Both Rhodey and Falcon were at the party scene in the tower in Age of Ultron, and Wanda was in the tower when Vision was brought to life.

It is a beautiful looking set, no doubt. Just curious - can the "Hulk windows" be fixed, so that the windows/building look more uniform?
The "broken windows" contains the 2 window elements that can just be used to build the windows normally
On the daily bugle all the pieces are there to make the window normal, no reason they wouldn't do that here also

You can get Banner from the ok hulkbuster set. But no Hill, no Coulson (and some more).. yeah...

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver did visit Avengers Tower at the end of Age of Ultron so I'm a little bummed that Quicksilver wasn't included (he was picking out running shoes!).
My one critique is that more minifigures should have had leg/arm printing.
