Yes a year ago I became ADDICTED to cutting the fluff. I mean EVERYTHING. I’m editing my unboxing right now and even where I pull open the tab, and then I open the lid, I cut the second between me pulling the tab and moving my hand over to grab the lid and opening up the lid. That way there’s a lot less downtime because you just don’t need to see that transition because your mind can already fill in the gaps. Another trick is, if you are going to show something to somebody and then you were going to talk about it. You can actually double up the clip and put the audio behind it and move it around so you can actually make yourself start talking earlier than you actually did in the recording. I’ve learnt a lot from this channel. I underestimated the power of transitions until I watched one of your videos. I see myself getting better at editing compared to when I started.
It's true about the shorter video length. I'm still working up from the bottom, but my 1 minute video is doing exponentially better than my 30+ minute video. However, never limit yourself if you're creating a long form video out of passion.
I can not relate. I can watch a long video, especially if I have the time and if I can tell the RUclipsr put effort in their content, but I understand you too. Not everyone can watch videos pass ten minutes, especially if they are busy or binge-watching RUclips videos💯
@@JulianSteve that's true. If the content is great and keeps you interested, at times I have watched longer videos. Depends on the time I have available and what I'm doing
I'm really going to try to start making shorter videos. Funny everytime I have an idea of how to be better, I get the tip here next. Lol... My Aunt told me my videos were too long that's why she doesn't watch. I made a 13 minute video. Next day(today) she texted me that she finally watched my video, and all the way through this time so I am gonna make 10 min videos... Don't you need at least 8 minutes to monetize a video though?... My longer videos get longer watch times than shorter videos, but I'm going to experiment soon, hopefully to get more views!... Wow, it's so good to know that 3 mins was something you're channel was getting. I been getting that and felt bad. I was too hard on myself. I feel so much better now🙊. Thanks for the tips and info!
@@ThinkMediaTV Thanks. I'm happy to say I have been consisted with at least 2 videos a week. I don't feel I'm growing fast enough so I'm trying to find ways to get better and see if it's possible to maybe get 3 videos per week out instead!
I have been binge watching a lot of Think Media content and just absorbing as much information as I can as I try to kickstart my short story writing RUclips and it has helped tremendously! Thank you so much for all of the helpful tips and information. Just wanted to share how grateful I am to have information like this that I can listen to in the background while I get my work done. Happy New Year!
With regards to your view on video length I agree as a viewer. I nearly watch all videos on 1.5x speed, because it is still easy to digest information on that speed, and it saves me a lot of time. I also skip trough intros about subscriber begging and such. 2020-2021 trend For titles : people blunt out lie (10k$ a day!) For thumbnails: Just look amazed with mouth open and hold your hands on your ears. 😂😂 But I really want to start a channel! Thanks!
Short form isn't always the key. I know a fisherman who has 30+ minute videos that started hitting a million views a month with less than 20k subscribers.

Awesome information!🔥 I think the ideal video length is 10 - 20 minutes. My videos are 2 minutes to 45 minutes. The 45 minute video has the most views. The 2 minute video has the second most views
I'll give everyone a tip. Have seperate channels for live streaming and videos. Having a mix of long and short videos messes with RUclips's metrics for watch time and retention.
As I'm watching this video, I think the ideal video length for me should be 7-10 minutes since I'm in the education space. As of today. my public videos range from 2 minutes 4 seconds to 56 minutes 24 seconds in length. I have some serious cutting down to do for my future videos!
6--8 minutes seems good for my viewers. However a few others have expressed they like longer vids. I let nature of the topic dictate length of vid. Rarely go longer other than a Live stream.
It doesn't matter where you are now on this plant, if you read this, I wish you a wonderful and happy life where all dreams and aspirations come through! Wishing you this from America. ❤️😊
I believe video length depends on the scenario the individual finds themselves in. Personally, I ONLY watch RUclips for education purposes. If I'm looking to learn something simple, I do a direct search and look for the shortest video possible. If I'm passively listening in the hopes of learning something new, 8-10 minutes. If I'm on a long trip, I want content longer than an hour.
Hi Sean, thanks for the helpful tips! I had a question about the first item you talked about in your video about having shorter videos. What should I do if one of my video series are interviews I conduct with guests and the content exceeds longer than 15 minutes? Should I still trim the videos down? Because if I do, I'd probably only cover like 3 questions during the interview. Thanks a lot! Also any feedback or advice would be appreciated from fellow RUclipsrs here!
Hi Sean & the team. Great content as always, thanks. I recently purchased your starter kit. Does that enable me to access your workshop or would I have to buy a ticket seperately?
Useful tips. I will try to use it, wherever I can to achieve the 100 subscribers milestone in the year 2021, which will need hundreds of views. Thanks, Sean.
11:13 ‚hit like if you’re getting video‘ 😅 I always hit like, because not only do I get a video from you but also sooo much value. Thanks again Sean ☺️
My vids naturally have been averaging about 7-9 minutes. I haven’t been able really get my vids over the special 10 minute mark that I’ve heard about. I guess I’m right in pocket for a new content maker!
Hey! Nice content, I am following you because I am launching my second youtube channel. Launching the first one I made a lot of mistakes and honestly, I wish I watched your videos before. Keep doing what you're doing because you provide great value. Thanks
I have Created new youtube chanel and everyone saying i should made long form videos. I watch tuturials here and there and im speechless i dont really know how to start... but this video Think Media do makes sense and quite fun to watch ☺️
What about gaming though? Typical videos range from 10 minutes to about 30 minutes because it's visual content? Depending on the game, you can't really show much in 5 to 7 minutes.
Great video, brother! I will say the metric @ 8:48 is annoying and deceiving, because say you normally post 15 minute videos and people watch an average of 5 minutes (33.333% AVD) and that is your typical, green metric of "Your video is performing normally. Compared to the 5-7 minutes typically get", but then you post a 10 minute video that has a AVD of 4.5 minutes, which is 45% AVD for that video. That is a MAJOR improvement in your AVD across your channel, BUT the metric isn't considering the length of the video vs the view duration with that simple metric when it makes it green or grey. It simply looks at the time they watched on average for that particular video vs length of time other videos are typically viewed, but not the %AVD. 7 minute AVD on a 10 minute video is WAY better performance for that video than 7 minute AVD on a 20 minute video. But RUclips's analytic metric on the dashboard after posting the new video doesn't take that %AVD into consideration when they suggest this (clearly better) video is doing well with a green check, but instead say "people aren't watching this as long" (WELL DUH, ITS A SHORTER VIDEO!!) with a grey check mark, for a better AVD percentage overall for THAT video comparatively. Complex response to a great video you made here, and awesome tips! But you hit on a sore subject for me with a false metric that I wish RUclips studio techs would fix.
True, but the RUclips algorithm pushes out videos sometimes with a longer view duration even if it had a worse AVD than a video with, let say, half the length
I totally agree. A lot of these metrics from YT need to be in the form of percentages so we are comparing apples to apples. I've had the same complaint. My science background has me needing to see more accuracy in the meaning of these numbers.
I totally agree, I’ve been frustrated by that AVD metric. I’ve stopped paying attention to it since i have a lot of videos everywhere from 30 seconds to 2 hours.
Advice #1 of short content has triggers my growth insanely. I went from 600 to 2800 subscribers and the community told me that they told me “the videos are short, to the point and punchy” so I conquer thanks for the confirmation
Thats a wake up call to Small ones Like me. Make shorter videos at first. Im less 2 months old here. And i commited this mistake already. huhuhu. I will correct it in my next upload. 3 minutes to 5 mins. max. Thank you very much brother for these tips and tutorial.
This is the best time to get into social media as an income source. There’s literally an audience for anything, you just have to use your skills and tools to get in front of your audience.
For anyone who hasn’t started publishing videos yet, trust me, this is genuinely one of the best channels to get advice from. BUT, when you get to the practice of making videos, you’ll be able to grasp such advices on a whole new level. At least that is what happened to me and I regret not starting sooner. It’s incredibly important that you go through the whole process, because from the 5 videos I scrapped, I don’t really feel like I’ve learned much, but the few that I published, even though I’m not very happy about them, taught me a ton. Especially about what I don’t want to do and what I’m doing wrong. So hit that record button and start experimenting now.
As a youtuber who teaches knitting and crochet, my hardest part with condensing videos is that the project videos require more than 30-45-1hour to actually TEACH what they need to know. There is room for me to do quick specific skill videos at a 5-10 min range. What are your suggestions?
Can you teach in a few videos? Set up and initial pattern. How to connect sections. Completing your design. I have absolutely no knowledge of knitting. So maybe different titles. But breaking up the whole into easier to absorb times. ?
What shouldn't you do? Be afraid. No video is ever finished, it's just abandoned. The most important thing to do is start. Press record, film, and upload. You have nothing to lose! 👌🏻
Thanks for this! I just started my youtube channel 4 months ago and I'm still trying to figure it all out...on New Years Eve I passed 1000 overall views on my channel and I am happy about it but I know that I can do better that that, and I know there are a lot of things to keep in mind to be better!
My videos are TOO LONG! I try every week to make them brief but I really struggle with keeping them short. Really going to try to work on this moving forward.
First, thanks for the content. That's great! For our UK-travel channel, started 6 months ago, we try to make short 3-6 min videos (max was 14 min). We are not talking in the videos. The strategy is - to show maximum interesting about the location by putting together footage and audio (music, sometimes with song).
"Be short, be brief, be bright, be fun, and be done! Love it! I punched fear in the face a few weeks ago and pressed record! Thank you Sean for the constant motivation and tips!!
@@divatalk9011 I think it all depends on what the topic is and how engaging the content is. For me though, 10 minutes seems to be the more feasible video run time.
@@Mistyfgdf I made videos over 10 minutes and the Average view duration was tiny, I made videos under 10 minutes and the retention rate increased. I'm still only managing at best 30% average view duration of the total video, I've only made three videos though, so I'm learning quickly
Love the variety of channels commenting here, really motivating to see the great community here supporting each other! Great advice again mate, thanks for sharing. 😊 personally I prefer videos less than 10 minutes.
Absolutely right, trim the filler. With Tiktok, Reels, RUclips shorts, and peoples attention span getting shorter, short videos are key. Get that 50% plus audience retention to win!
I just started posting about a month ago and recently posted 2 videos based on the same topic. The 8 minute one had 2k view after about a week; while the 14 minute one is struggling at only 300 views albeit after only a few days Thanks for the pointer, since I am so new, I should do something quick, like 5-8 minute ones. Perhaps I will report back after a few more videos on the same topic I enjoy your content, it keeps the spirit up
@@msgodivaempress I deleted a lot of my videos , I’m in the proses of moving homes. Once I get Situated I’ll probably try it again. Anyways thank you for showing interest, I’ll subscribe back
Like your channel so I subscribed to it keep them videos coming I love to watch and learn stuff about doing stuff for vehicles. I was thinking of doing some stuff on my channel about car stuff. But need to get better at it.
My channel is not "new"...but wanted to hear you thoughts on this. I've recently learned that "Mega Videos" on my niche do very well...as a matter of fact, they are my best performing videos on my channel and my biggest earning ones as well. I don't do these all the time. I do shorter videos and then to compilation of them into larger, longer ones. This is my "business plan" for 2021 since they've done so much better on my channel this past year.
As an experiment, I did a series of shorter videos that were very focused on one tutorial topic. I then compiled them into a single long video - so my channel had both long and short videos. The shorter videos (2-5 min) definitely do better. The long one does get interest though. I think some folks want to learn a lot at once in depth, but more people just want a “one and done” tutorial to solve a problem.
That's the answer I was looking for, lol. Just wanted to make sure if I should make a long video with a lot of info, which supposedly could blow up because of long watch time, or divide it into several well-made short videos. Gonna do shorter videos:)
The tip for shorter videos makes so much sense now! All other people with YTber target audience keeps pressing to make long videos, so this is very fresh and new. When I see a list of videos I wanna watch I click them all in new tabs, but I notice I always start to watch the shortest ones, and sometimes never get to watch the other "waiting in line to be watched cuz their are long" videos xD

10 minutes is our sweet spot
Let's grow.
In our situation shorter is better from 5min to 3min we got a better view average duration!
Thanks so much
If the video is too short up will you still get add placement

Advice #1 of short content has triggers my growth insanely. I went from 600 to 2800 subscribers and the community told me that they told me “the videos are short, to the point and punchy” so I conquer thanks for the confirmation
I'll take your advice ♥️
Try it
Wow congratulations 🥳
Thats a wake up call to Small ones Like me. Make shorter videos at first.
Im less 2 months old here.
And i commited this mistake already. huhuhu.
I will correct it in my next upload. 3 minutes to 5 mins. max.
Thank you very much brother for these tips and tutorial.

As a content consumer in those cases people preffer to watch livestreams.
Maybe you could break them up into parts? Like having Part 1 being one video, and so on?
Can you teach in a few videos?
Set up and initial pattern.
How to connect sections.
Completing your design.
I have absolutely no knowledge of knitting. So maybe different titles. But breaking up the whole into easier to absorb times. ?
Break it down into a series of shorter vids eg: part 1 of 5, part 2 of 5 etc
Make shorter videos and put them into playlists
Someone told me early on about shorter videos! I’m seriously motivated!!! I hope everyone crushes their goals 2021!

What shouldn't you do? Be afraid. No video is ever finished, it's just abandoned. The most important thing to do is start. Press record, film, and upload. You have nothing to lose! 👌🏻

First, thanks for the content. That's great! For our UK-travel channel, started 6 months ago, we try to make short 3-6 min videos (max was 14 min). We are not talking in the videos. The strategy is - to show maximum interesting about the location by putting together footage and audio (music, sometimes with song).

Yep
I try to keep the videos no longer than 10 minutes. So between 7-10 minutes is about a good range for me.
True
I've discovered more than 10 mins, most people tune out
@@divatalk9011 Yeah after the last 20% of my video, normally 20% or less of the people who click are watching
Great information for getting views.. thank you so much 👍👍👍
Absolutely right, trim the filler. With Tiktok, Reels, RUclips shorts, and peoples attention span getting shorter, short videos are key. Get that 50% plus audience retention to win!
I strongly believe that 7'-13' is the best duration for a video. Mine are much longer and i intend to stop it.
Good luck!
