    Great video, and I really like how you show how simple/ basic fishing can be to get pleasure from. No doubt inspiring some of our youngsters to give it a go. I started when I was 10 fishing off North Shields fish quay, 7ft rod using spark plugs for weights. Here I am 47 years later still at it…..Like your style of video, laid back and easy viewing. Thanks and have a happy Christmas.

    Need to be fishing much further uptide if chucking out that far in an estuary under flood. Humber cod usually disappear when cold weather comes, shrimps move off the mud into the deeper channels and it's pretty common for the humber to die off in December.

    • @theawfulangler
      @theawfulangler  2 года назад

      I usually fish the Humber through December, give it a rest through January, and then move out on to the coast end of Feb/beginning of March. Still seeing plenty of catch reports coming out at the minute, but January always seems very quiet in my experience.

    How do you find fishing the 80lb braid straight through? I usually use leaders but tying leaders in the wind or dark gets old fast haha

    • @theawfulangler
      @theawfulangler  Год назад

      It has its pros and cons mate.
      Pros - It's great in weedy conditions as there's no knot to get tangled on. You don't have to worry about any knots giving out either. I use Whiplash, so it's relatively thin stuff, but thicker braids can get caught up in the wind and reduce casting distance.
      Cons - there's zero give in the braid, which means in bigger seas, either the rod tip bounces around like oneo, or the lead gets pulled out quickly. Also when you get snagged up it's a nail biter as to what gives out first. I've snapped swivels and sheared 4/0 hooks before the braid gives out.

    If you’re intensions are to throw the fish back, then surely it would be much kinder to use a fish mat. Dumping the fish on rock hard concrete, is quite frankly disturbing and cruel.
