      Hi mate, glad you liked the video and thank you for the positive feedback.
      I was on my usual 3 foot snood on my bar rig. It was calm enough not to have to worry about shortening up.
      I have used a dongle a few times on the bar, but still find a pennel easier. I was using a pennel here. My top hook is always a circle, and the vast majority of my fish are caught on this, not the j hook.

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  Год назад

      One advantage to Southbourne is you can fish it on any tide. Conditions are often more important than the tide down there. Having said that a couple of hours either side of low or high seem to produce well. The middle bit of the flood or ebb often goes a little quiet.

    Hi Tom great session. What distance is short range. roughly? All i seem to catch in the gully is sole and small plaice about 50 yards out. What was the most successful bait for the rays, sandeel? Thank you. Simon.

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  Год назад +1

      Hi Simon.
      I had intended on showing the distances, I was using the Asso Tapered Line which is colour banded, so easy to judge where you are fishing. The close range rod was between the first yellow and blue band, which is around the 60m mark, the distance rod was on the middle of the second blue band, which is around 165m mark. Now that's just how much line is off the spool, so with the bow of line etc it'll obviously be a bit closer than that, so I'd guess somewhere around 120-130m.

      Well, yes. (Trying really hard not to say the word 'obviously' 🤣).
      No, in all seriousness, you're absolutely right. Water craft will always play a role in fishing, and the gulleys and bars are at varying distances along Southbourne. Having said that, I would say this theory is correct for the vast majority of Southbourne. Sometimes it'll be 30yds, sometimes 40, sometimes 50 etc etc, that's why I didn't get too hung up with saying things like "I'm casting exactly 43yds". But the overall point was... you don't have to be a big caster to catch fish.
