I know I keep saying "I want one" with every bloody new camera, but I really want this. Even if it means eating less daan tarts.
I think this one worth a kidney, because you only need one to live, then it is a fair trade.
This video has all the Kai-quirks, musical cues, and directorial style of an older channel we all used to watch. I can't remember what it was called, though. I think something like "Where's Alamby TV?"
But that daan tart pastry was all wrong.
Sensor is tiny? Like it's a micro four thirds sensor that's been stretched out horizontally to make it 16:9
Hey Kai!! Great video as always, very entertaining. I’ve been using a Canon c100mki since day dot and never felt the need to upgrade. I would love to upgrade to a 4k cine-cam to shoot doco + corporates on. Do you think this could do the job? Thanks, Toby.

@@Miguel_Molina I'd say this is high end prosumer. Pro level will be C300mk3 because it has RAW and all the pro I/O
@@skyglidestudios3443 if c300 mkiii is professional a7siii is amateur level. A7siii doesn’t have time code or internal ND’s. Also you have to buy separate for xlr mic, with only one external audio track.

Kai, your sense of humour has me in bits! I *hate* camera reviews that are all "yes well the image format and the lens optical performance and vignetting and ooooh" but yours manages to get all that information in and hold a ton of sarcastic wit too. Fantastic.

The internal multiple optical Neutral Density filters are highly important for videographers. The variable ND filter in front of the lens may show undesirable polarizing effects which are more serious with wide and ultra wide lenses. The internal multiple optical ND filters is the main feature of all professional digital videocameras.
For photographers there is the exposure triangle of Aperture-Shutter speed-ISO. However with videography the is an exposure square Aperture-Shutter speed-ISO-frame rate.
The common frame rates of a video is between 24 fps and 60 fps.
The frame rate is directly reciprocal to the shutter speed. With 24 fps for a smooth video you should choose a shutter speed of 1/48th sec and for 60 fps video 1/120th sec. so the shutter speed is double the value of frame rate.
With poor lighting that isn't a a very serious problem because you can elevate the ISO or open the aperture.
On there hand with daylight the 1/48th sec is probably too much even with the lowest ISO or the smallest aperture. The video will be overexposed.
Then an optical ND filter is needed. (Not digital ND filter which actually expands the ISO).
I've never been a Canon fan but this camera is beautiful!

Once you use a cinema camera, it's definitely eye opening. I used the cxxx line at work and when I do my own work with my dslr it just feels wrong. It's hard to explain, it's definitely a look.

I just ordered my new C70 along with the cn-E 18 - 80mm lens. I have been shooting with my 1DX Mark ii for about 5 years and i was literally days from ordering the C300 Mark iii and heard about the new C70. so glad i waited, will pick it up (curbside only here in Toronto) on Monday. Looking forward to this new package. On another note... really do enjoy your videos'... keep banging them out. But i really want to know... what's your take on the Crispy Duck.

What are they using for the main camera?
Lok did a great job matching the R5, the C70 and the a7siii, even though the greater DR of the Sony is evident in some shots. Do you know the settings of the R5? Was it shot in 4K standard, 4KHQ or the oversampled aps-c mode?
Canons R5 sensor has more DR than the a7S3 (Look up at www.photonstophotos.net/). The DR of the Video is dependent on the codec which is used. Canon will implement the C-Log3 which is similar to the S-log3 (already in the Sony) with the next software Update to the R5 and every DR difference to the A7S3 will disappear
@@airb1976 Don't be daft, we all know regular canon log, which I suppose was used in this video, is far inferior to s-log3 with regards to dynamic range. That has nothing to do with codec but gamma values.

How did you know I edited this video while usually it was Kai himself!? Anyway it was in fact a Canon EOS R on c-log, and Sony a7RIII on s-log3. I use Filmconvert Nitrate to colour grade and match these footages (except the C70 was done manually), made my life so much easier!

Is it me, or the flip screen doesnt close all the way because of the buttons behind it.... likewise, you might damage the actual screen if it gets pressed too hard against he buttons behind it.... that is to say, it appears the flip screen rests on the button behind it when it's closed.... correct me if I'm wrong.
(Now I'm intrigued...gotta find another video that demonstrates the function of the screen.....)
Just a bit high priced for my pocket if it was 3 Grand I'd defo buy one . I can see the high price though a solid workhorse , Canon cine is an all in one . loved the c100 ... maybe a cut down c50 could be for me . I'll have to stick with the GH and a Pocket 4k .. for now.

question, when you record in c709 or correct it in say, Resolve 16 to Rec709 : isn't the color space not compatible with youtube? wouldn't you want to grade to sRGB?
The (old) default for movies is 709. Sok that's what every movie player (including RUclips) expects. Unless otherwise specified, for example hdr shots.
709 is pretty much sRGB anyway (not exactly, and not really comparing apples to apples there, but close enough).
For HD-movies, 709 is for movies what srgb is for pictures : the implied default.
Those implied defaults don't change that often. When going from SD to HD we went through 601 to 709.. And now with hdr things are changing again, and maybe we get no implied default with all the new formats...
But 709 is right now still the safe default to expect when playing a movie without proper metadata.
(most gpu's do a 709 to srgb thing when playing accelerated video, so don't do it yourself if you don't know it'd going to be respected at playback)
