Great tips here. I'd add a couple if I may ... 1) When transitioning from inside to outside, try using the Auto Iris function with fine increment engaged. Unfortunately, if you're using EF lenses with an adapter, this feature only works with a few lenses... notably the Canon EF 85mm 1.4 L IS. Oddly enough though, all the EF-S zoom lenses work with it too. But most EF lenses don't. You could also use Auto ISO, but this isn't ideal and doesn't work in C-Log... typical Canon cripple here. 2) I too occasionally switch focus to manual, but I do it on the camera with a custom button near my thumb. I find doing it with the lens switch generally incurs a bit of jolt in your footage. EDIT... looks like a few people have already suggested this. Useful video for new C70 owners. Thanks Griffin. :)

@@Oneklickmedia We stick with shooting C-Log 2 on the C70s. I still find the R5 a bit of a pain to grade compared with the C70, which makes them kinda difficult to match. Check out Buttery LUTS for a little help with the grading. The C70 LUT they sell is awesome, and the R5 is pretty good.
Don't know if you will see this after so many months but I have something that could be a dumb question. How did you record your camera settings screen? Very helpful video btw, thank you so much
@@GriffinConway Totally, I guess I'm just curious if you do you own custom curves to convert the log footage, since for me I find it can be difficult to pull out the most range without messing up where colours land in the log curve hence leading me to using the manufacturers lut a little more often.
Yes I have. I find it can be a good starting place but Arri LogC has more saturation than Canon CLog2 so it needs a little more work to get it to look great IMO
Thanks for the tips! I've been loving the camera, only real issue for me is the autofocus. I was using the 1DX MK II for video until I bought the C70 and the 1DX's autofocus was more usable in real world situations IMO - which is crazy because the 1dx came out in 2016. The C70 really struggles with AF if you are underexposed at all or even if your subject has a darker complexion. Hopefully canon might be able to address it with a firmware upgrade but I'm not holding my breath.
Awesome. There is no digital level. Most tripods have a bubble level that shows when it is level. For handheld I would say it just takes a bit more practice
Great Video. Great tips. Subscribed. Question: if i had to choose one all around lens for this camera, which would it be (for run and gun doc style no gimball....just cam with lens). Guess a zoom, but which one, RF or EF (with booster). Just want 1. Thanx in advance 🙏
Lots of users like the EF 24-105mm F4. With the Canon .71x focal reducer you add a full stop of light, so it’s effectively an f2.8 lens with image stabilization.
Hey Griffin, when you are toggling the LUT on and off using the user button, are you able to assign your own LUTs or only the BT. 709. because I can't see where to load my own LUTs for this purpose, other than in the CP file menu, which disables the ability to toggle the LUT on and off. Any help greatly appreciated.
I actually came across a video on that today. In the link here, he talks about adding your own luts, but the only problem is that with this method he bakes it into the footage: ruclips.net/video/LoaBGD4u7ig/видео.html and on this video, he shows how to NOT bake the lut you added into your footage ruclips.net/user/shortsSNUl-Kg5c7I?feature=share
Hi Griffin! Thx for your video. Have you ever tried to compare internal shots with ones that was recorded with Ninja V in prores? Im I'm wondering if prores has a better quality
I have. It's easier for editing but I do find it switches the video levels to "video levels" instead of "full levels" (feel free to look this up, as it is a bit of a complicated topic). It can be undone in Davinci Resolve, but I edit in premiere so I prefer the internal recordings
I bought your lut pack and they don't upload to the c70 nor the c300 mark iii. I went to Canon and they suggested I get back to you and get a compatible pack. Although the file type is correct it's rejected in the registration process on the ingest.

Very helpful video btw, thank you so much
Thank you. I used an Atomos ninja v to record my screenoverlays
Love this and your content, thanks so much!
What's slider at 10:00 ?
Dana Dolley with an O'Connor 1030 head
With the LUTs you make, do you do a custom curve/log transform or do you use a CST to do the log conversion?
The luts have the curve built in so you don't need to do a CST first.
@@GriffinConway Totally, I guess I'm just curious if you do you own custom curves to convert the log footage, since for me I find it can be difficult to pull out the most range without messing up where colours land in the log curve hence leading me to using the manufacturers lut a little more often.
Awesome. Just got to get the camera now 😬
When I inport your lut in the C70 it's write "Process Terminated With error". Why I do wrong?
Nice tips 👍 I like to use the small AF frame instead of the large. Makes it a lot easier to actually know what you focus on 😎
Have you tried using the Arri rec709 LUT instead?
Hopefully canon might be able to address it with a firmware upgrade but I'm not holding my breath.
great video. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Great video! Just got the C70... Is the a digital level to know if the camera is balanced on tripod or handheld? How do you manage this?
@@aaronnelson3091 thanx for the reply. I thought native RF 28-70 would win, but this will save me a lot of money. Thanx again!
ABB is my #1 custom menu choice
Many thanks 😊
Great tip on back up audio.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful
Great info. Bought your LUTs right away
I bought your lut pack and they don't upload to the c70 nor the c300 mark iii. I went to Canon and they suggested I get back to you and get a compatible pack. Although the file type is correct it's rejected in the registration process on the ingest.
Hey Trevor shoot me an email and I’ll send you some updated ones
