Being 48 in this live performance and age has been very well for him. He looks real good for his age and hks energy has never died which is amazing.
Lonnie was not just a great musician, but a great performer ! In this video he radiates the fun he has. Hebis PERFORMING the story of the song. See those expressions, the man’s an actor ! And those voice intonations, tremendous !! Not only does he look like Robin Williams, but if not in music, he could also have been a comedian. Just watch any interview and catch his demeanor and humor ! Gone too soon 😢 miss you Lonnie. Great that son Peter took after you !
My parents used to play Lonnie's record when I was a kid and this version was on it. I just loved it and so glad I found this on youtube. I'm 57 now 👌
I'm 17 and love Lonnie. Does Your Chewing Gum Lose It's Flavor is one of my favorites of his!
@@jonathanmarroquin1020you have great taste 👌
Mine had the 1955 version… 🙂
Wow! Never heard this version before. What a performance. Can’t believe that the audience were so subdued
It is with Rory Gallagher on the Guitar .
My band is playing this song this weekend.
i would be going mental if i was there !!!
How the hell are the audience not going mad ?? This is music at its best, this is the nuts . God bless lonnie x
That's what I thought! This song kicks ass!
Studio audience by the looks of it; wouldn't have been allowed back then, even in '78! But you are right Robert... this is the nuts!
Possible because Lonnie is lip syncing and there's a whole lot of music and no band behind him. They were mighty confused.
Its good to know that you like my great uncle music
@@_i_brought_whiskey brought up on his music , always listening to Lonnie on Spotify, and Peter too. Met Peter at the cavern club back in 2019. Lovely guy
Damn shame Rory Gallagher doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Did a hell of a good job on this song
Thought I recogniced the guitar 😎
bloody legend
John lennon loved this song
My old dad played his records on a Sunday morning, this was one of my favourites , and bring a little water .. sadly went to soon ... Chas Hodges was another under estimated artist .. love it
One word….integrity…..
Great . With 0% autotune
Wow, what a reinvention of the song from his early days
Legend
If ever a contribution to folk culture, Donegan is it 100x over. If you wonder where American southern and Appalachian accents come from, listen up.
Who were the audience?? Mannequins?? THAT ROCKED!!!!
Good man lonnie.
What a great version of his hit song.
This is a mimed version of the recording made in 1978 with a clutch of Uk rock stars; Rory Gallagher, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Album called "Puttin on the Style" Produced by Adam Faith. Note that there is no band playing on this film.
Yes, Rory Gallagher on guitar here.
Best version of this hit
Extended release of this Puttin on Style available with many of the hits. Worth a search.
He looks younger than I thought he'd be by now.
When country meets rock 🪨 🎸
Amazing Speed Song....great
Lonnie's the best. 👍❤
I wonder 🤔,,who was on the lead guitar? Plus,, what a hell of a performance!!!!!
Not 100% sure but i think that it is Rory Gallagher, Lonnie re-recorded his early hits in late 1977 early 1978 with guests Rory Gallagher, Ringo Starr, Elton John, and Brian May, the Album is called Putting on the style.
@@castiger1957 It is Rory G....
Thanks so much for posting.
Come here after his Son Peter at Voice 😍😍😍
Yes indeed my friend! he was the King of Skiffle... check out the RUclips called Presley, Jones & Donegan
BEST VERSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
John Lennon worked to learn this song when Lonnie Donegan’s version came out in 1955. Tom Jones said Lonnie was one of the first to introduce rock and roll in the UK.
Big legend.
I missed this man but I am catching up now. He’s Great. I herd about him and this song from Tom Jones.
Yes indeed my friend! he was the King of Skiffle... check out the RUclips called Presley, Jones & Donegan

I love it.
Can anyone else see Robin Williams, or is it just me ? X ❤
Class , just class !
January 2024🤗💕
Nasty gutbucket blues, love this take on his original version, and what a voice still-audience is dead though, were they all on tranquillisers or something?!
Rory Gallagher on lead guitar here
The business.love him.xx
Damn that man is my uncle
Yes Lonnie donegan
Not the most popular person in the world but damn it's cool to have him as a great uncle
Yes indeed my friend! he was the King of Skiffle... check out the RUclips called Presley, Jones & Donegan
Rock it mr
Am I right Rory Gallagher is in the backing band hence the distinctive strat :-)
What band? There is no band on stage. That's why they keep the cameras on Lonnie the entire time. It's not until around the 3:30 mark that you see an empty drum kit behind him. Sadly disappointing. As a Rory Gallagher fan, I was hoping to get a shot of him in the video. Just a lip sync stage performance.
Rory Gallagher lead guitar. But this is studio version from "Putting on the style" album. So this is play back.
Where's Rory..
He kind of reminds me of Robin Williams.
2:49 ❤❤
3:30 - Enjoy your epilepsy.
İdol man.
I thought it was a classic Robin Williams Movie lol oops
..in the middle of "Quad-Cities"..
Y'all realize he's lip-synching to the studio recording, right?
Where and when did Lonnie perform this version? was it the version with all the stars that supported him? If so, he must have mimed it? Great stuff from The King himself!
On the Guitar was Rory Gallagher.
@@sonjadietz5297 Interesting camera angles here - Lonnie's often turning away when Rory's playing kick's in...
Salve. Lei ha, la puntata completa di Pop e Rock dell'01-04-1978? Sto cercando disperatamente.
lets get these views up mofuckers!
Yessir!
Rory ****** Gallagher 😯
I'll take one of them sheep, from ya. I need a good fluff.
Dont know Jimmy Fallon was a great guitarist.
I'm sure someone likes this.
Yes there are plenty of us who like this updated version and don't forget Lonnie inspired a new band in Liverpool called The Quarrymen who would become one of the biggest Bands of all time so if you don't like it just crawl back under your rock and keep your thoughts to your self.
I do! I’m a railfan (train nerd)!
Not the best playback ever seen
You can definitely tell that the 60s rock bands were super inspired by this guy the amount of really good electric guitar licks is quite impressive very much reminiscent of that late Yardbirds early led Zeppelin kind of sound
