What an amazing piece of film to watch & listen to. I've been a Lonnie Donegan fan most of my life and the music we have listened to for the last 50-60 years owes so much to this amazing musciain, who so many stars of today, credit him as being one of the great influences in their careers. And here, to see him backed by Mark Knopfler, a music icon in his own right, is truly a wonderful sight. to whoever is responsible for putting this on RUclips, thank you so very much, you've certainly made my day.
How utterly grand to see Mark and Donegan play together. Lonnie died in 2002 and I'm glad these two played on stage side by side. I've loved Donegan since 'Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor' in 1959 and it's been skiffle and more ever since.
this is so awesome to see. I am a huge MK fan and was living in Streatham from mid ‘97- ‘98. I was unemployed and didn’t have £20 for a ticket to see MK play at Ronnie at the time. He played there every night for a week or two. I had a zone 3 travelcard so even went to visit Ronnies the place during the day once But never got to see him play. Something I regretted for many years. Thankfully I got to see MK on the Shangrila tour in South Africa years later. Was a magical experience!
This has just popped up respect to Lonnie Donegan one of my favourite musicians king 👑 of Skiffle R.I.P 🙏🪽🤝🫶🤝and respect to Mark knopler playing with his hero fantastic from a Teddy Boy 📻🎼🎙️🎹🎸🎺🥁🪗🎷
Thankyou very much for bringing the man who made such a difference, to the transformation of British Music pushing American dross , temporarily away. I first saw Lonnie in 1956 at the Fishmongers Arms, north London. ……and here he was 40 years later, still with the enthusiasm of entertaining the customers. Brilliant. Eric in Australia
I was there, with Ed Bicknell at the table… dunno if some of the audio is from my recording (there is a glitch/change during the initial talk) what a night to remember!
Thank You so much: I,m 83 yrs. and It was only later that I found out that LD wrote songs for people. Please see The Voice where his son Peter (with his dads guitar) sings with Tom Jones the song that LD wrote for him. Spine chilling. Please check It out.
