Here’s a worldbuilding plothole I recently realized: if every champion-rank trainer has to complete the champion assessment to earn it, that means that the “Top” Champion has canonically lost to every other Champion trainer

That's not a plot hole, it just means the "Top" is likely more than just a single battle.
Certain real world tournaments are structured so that rankings are about numbers of wins, rather than simply beating the Xth seed team, for example. We know Nemona walks around using an intentionally low-powered team for the challenge; that would logically decrease her ranking over time, even if she did beat Geeta.
And like the other commenter said, it's also likely that many Champions simply aren't interested in holding an official position.

In all honestly. In my first playtrough i thought greeta would have been a dragon type champion. Like lance, because recently all pokemon repeat themself. The story repeats, the monsters repeats or we are grown and realize how childish some look.
Same for the futurestic one currently.
Ok that one is just me.
What i wanted is, i felt like she is a dragon type champion because of the sheer amount of dragons, Pseudo legendary pokemon you could catch in the game.
I thought this time, we would get a champion with champion level monsters.
And then somehow got the dissapointment of a challenge( before DLC. )
      And canonically speaking. By manga!
Each Champion never loses its title, they all stay champion.
In one, i believe the MOM was also a champion, who won against Oak.
Who canonically was also once a champion, as toross as his ace.
And red beeig the 5 generation.
(Forgot who is was champion before oak)
      And canonically gamewise,
Lance became E4 memeber because he list to blue/green/ buttcheecks
So its quite possible for each Top champion to be E4 member, this just means. The first E4 memeber was at one point either champion level or hit a wall and deffended his wall position.
Like darktype gym guy in generation 3.
In modern game, he would be now somewhere in spot 3 or 2. Because hoe darktype got better with each generation.
(Edit) This whole pseudo legendary champion trainer. Was also more reasonable to me because of her Outfit, its purple.
Purple is the color for all dragontype moves. All named trainers, specifally the gyms represents their pokemon theme with their outfit, with their job and behavior.
Cinthia was this wise, mysterious person who helped us.
Troy was this wise, mysterious person who helped us.
Lance was this mysterious strong experience trainer, who helped us.
And only then at one point in history, that theme if strong, experience trainer changed and it just became mysterious trainer that knows some stuff and helps with fashion style.
Greeta had this gentleman look in purple. To me that one screamed dragontype.

I personally didn't see it as a plot hole bc I interpreted it as the first Geeta fight being more like the capstone course for the academy, and they expect graduates to be "champion-level", so she kind of softballs the fights so that students that have completed the other requirements and are at about the right level aren't held back. It makes more sense that way to me, especially with the kingambit that's in the correct place in the rematch. Basically like the Paldean academies being an expensive private school that doesn't have the best actual curriculum but they have a high graduation rate to encourage parents to enroll their kids.

Something I think would be fun is if Geeta led with a Palafin, then was coded to switch it into Glimmora on the first turn. Not only would this make for a brutally powerful ace Pokémon, but Glimmora would likely switch into an attack and get up toxic spikes. That alone would make the fight far more difficult.

In other regions (other than Galar), gym leaders and other trainers don’t really talk about the champion, and when they do, they usually have good things to say. When they talk about Lance or Alder, they talk about them with reverence for their status and power. Trainers discuss Steven and Cynthia like they’re the coolest, most interesting people alive, and always in awe of their talent and dedication. The worst anyone has to say about them is when an elite 4 member mentions their frustration at always being a step behind. And in Galar, where the champion is the only thing anybody ever talks about, they all treat Leon like Lebron James, Elvis, and Jesus rolled into one. But Geeta? People talk about Geeta all the time, and it’s almost always negative. The only person who ever says anything nice about her is Nemona, who has a positive attitude toward everything.

And Nemona is different in her pestering because at least she's nice and silly and is more of my friend than my rival.
Also like Diantha has a really good team unlike Geeta. The reason why Diantha was so easy was because the leveling curve was absolutely insane where you could be levels above everyone without rare candy or anything bc of the experience share as well as the fact that the fairy type is absolutely broken, especially in its introduction games.

Yup. In fact, let's not even compare her to Cynthia. Even towards Alder, a Champion who *CANONICALLY LOST* before you even fight him, Geeta still pales in comparison.
Alder was a presence throughout the story and he always made sure to give training advice and life advice to those he meets. Even when he lost to N, he still won the philosophical battle. Hell, the reason he lost to begin with was because he was already past his prime, his original partner died and N was just straight-up using a Legendary. And when you *DO* fight Alder, it feels less like a final boss fight and more of a friendly scrap between a cool old man and an upcoming successor, which ironically hits harder for me.
As for Geeta, her presence in the game is borderline nonexistent, her employees don't like her at all (especially poor Larry, being forced to pull double-duty as Elite Four and Gym Leader), her battle prowess is pathetic and she looks like Prom Night Spongebob with the lanky legs and her yee-yee ass haircut. And in the end, she amounted as nothing more than an ingredient since the true final boss has had data of various Paldean Champions in its databanks.

The problem is, Paldea is a region without a lot of really strong trainers. They seem to still be early on in their pokemon league, with the Elite 4 having to be roped into doing the job. The whole pokemon league serves as a test for trainers to become champion ranked (not champion), potentially because Geeta needs to find capable trainers to become a new Elite 4 and a real champion. I mean most trainers give up before their 6th badge, and Larry has to do double duty between gym leader and elite 4 member. Even the gym leaders mostly all have day jobs.
I feel like the future of Paldea is an entirely new elite 4 and champion for a league that isn't in the early stages. (Which paldea appears to be) Probably with Nemona as champion (Player character is like Red, and just retires). With Eri, Larry and I'm not sure who else as the rest of the Elite 4, and one of Team Star taking over Larry's gym. (Allowing the poor man to take it easy)
Geeta's team is fine (though I'd probably replace Avalugg), but the problem is her order. Kingambit should be last, and Glimmora should be second. (Espathra still first to counter setup with Opportunist.)

There's always been a little theory that gym leaders are using regulation teams rather than their own personal preferred teams which has been implied to various degrees throughout the generations, especially during rematches and such. Trainers like Nemona and Larry in this game are directly shown to have different teams for different purposes, so I really think it'd make sense if Geeta is attempting to make challenging the league a little more accessible by nerfing herself a little. If she's acting just as much "Chairwoman of the school" as she is of the League, it'd kinda make sense for her to set up a situation where trainers can think "wait, why don't you lead with Glimmora and save Kingambit for last?" and feel clever for figuring that out. Not that it doesn't make for underwhelming gameplay :p
On the other hand, her own battle experience is mainly against students and her own Elite 4, right? Nemona's whole thing is that she needs more challenging battles to help her grow as a trainer. She wants you to beat her to give her a new goalpost to strive for and someone to share it with at the same time.
Conversely, Geeta hasn't really been battling trainers on her own level either. From her perspective, her skills aren't really being challenged because challengers are here to test their own skills more than anything. So there's a significant skill gap between her and the people who beat her, as well. She's hit a skill ceiling but she's not making the effort to raise that ceiling because she WANTS people to surpass her, her stated goal is to make the League stronger rather than herself as a trainer.
It would have been fun if she had a post-game "let me show you my REAL power" moment too, though.

It’s outright confirmed in gen 4 where you can rematch the gym leaders of Sinnoh, Johto, and Kanto in the various games and they’ll have far stronger teams. The Pokemon World Tournament in B/W 2 also shows every gym leader up to that point in the series with stronger teams champions as well but the canonicity of the PWT extra rounds are a touch debatable.

@@triforceofcourage100Not to mention in B/W2 Cheren actually states that he wished he got to use his actual team when you beat him. Most regions, save Galar, most definitely have Gym Leaders adjust accordingly to the badges a trainer has when they are challenged. It would make no sense for someone from Lavender Town to go all the way to Pewter to challenge Brock, or someone from Lilycove travelling across Hoenn to battle Roxanne first. This is contrasted with Galar where the Pokemon League challenge is treated more as a Nation Cup thing with the League sponsoring hotel accommodations so that trainers can battle the Gym Leaders in pre-set orders, especially with all of them having to go through Kabu as the 3rd gym leader (as opposed to someone from Ballonlea starting with Opal, heading down to Milo and maybe going for Nessa instead of Kabu first.)
And, yes, agree on the rematch - those teams are what are considered the gym leader's actual strongest 'mons. It'd be downright illegal for Roxanne to fight you with her Lv. 47 Aerodactyl if you don't even have badges and your starter is only at Lv. 12.

A concept for changing Geeta's Team, with a little explanation for each pokemon. Just a silly little set of ideas.
Keep Glimmora, but make that be the pokemon that she starts the battle with, for obvious reasons. She wants to be the top she'll need to abuse that toxicity.
Make her carry either a Ceruledge or an Armarouge. Ceruledge if you play Scarlet, Armarouge if you play Violet, that way if the player has one, she has the other.
She could probably keep Gogoat, but personally I feel Arboliva is the better option, if only to keep showing off the new pokemon of gen 9.
May just say keep Avalugg since it's such a weird, and kind of dumb and out there pick, it'd also be kind of unexpected at the same time from someone called the top champion, while also showing off how strong Avalugg could be.
Gholdengo may be a good choice for her team, since chances are there were players that ignored Gimmighoul when first playing the game and it'd be like a "whoa what is THAT thing?" feel to it.
Make Kingambit her ace, that way she can be like "Behold, the pokemon that stands atop all others", suddenly that pokemon is a lot scarier.

Aurorus is just straight up not good. I would like her to have a pure Kalosian team of non-repeats but that's impossible.
Honestly? I would make her team consist of Furfrou (surprisingly physically bulky, basically 120 Def because of ability, and being only week to fighting, it would be likely to bait Physical moves; proceed to punish with STAB Giga Impact that could be even worse with held items) no one would see it coming on their first playthrough; Goodra with Hydration and Rain Dance and Toxicroak could be a great follow up for coverage in the rain if it has Dry Skin; she can keep the Gardevoir but it wouldn't be her Mega or her ace, and tbqh it wouldn't be bad if it was switched for a Gothitelle, as good and less overused; Klefki would probably be a very good first 'mon as a setter. Her ace would absolutely should be a Mega Diancie.
"But Mega Diancie wasn't a thing until ORAS and Diancie is a Mythical" it simply shouldn't have been. Make it a rare evolution method for a 1/1000 Carbink or something as its lore is. Gen 6 already had Volcanion and Hoopa and the very next gen would introduce Magearna which serves almost the same purpose. Nothing of valor would be lost if it wasn't Mythical and was instead some pseudo pseudo-legendary thing like Volcarona.

During her pre-battle speech Geeta notes she has a trait that is unbecoming of being a chairwoman: she is unable to hold back during battles. As such, it's possible Geeta at least does her best to handicap herself before the heat of battle by making these deliberate choices. Who knows? Maybe you're the first test subject for Geeta to handicap herself by making less tactical choices.
Furthermore, as someone else also theorized, we only ever battle Geeta to earn a Champion Rank, not title. It's not like Sun and Moon where we fight for and later on defend our position of Champion. Instead, we're being tested by the Elite Four and Champion Chairwoman to see if we're good enough to claim the rank of Champion, not to be the Champion and take over the position

If I were to design Geeta's team, I would give her:
    1. Glimmora - I think it would be cool if she lead with her ace unlike previous Champions. I know most Champion teams don't have held items, but an Eject Button would probably benefit it. That way, it gets more time to shine later while (hopefully) activating its Ability. I think it would also be interesting if an NPC used the Terastal phenomenon early instead. It's Tera Type would remain Rock.
    2. Gogoat - Gogoat is a cool Pokémon with decent stats. I also think it is one of Geeta's better team members in her actual team.
    3. Kingambit - Kingambit would be her last Pokémon due to its Ability. If Geeta had used Kingambit later on, it definitely would have been more troublesome. If possible, it should be given a Focus Sash to prevent it from immediately being knocked out by a Fighting-type move.
    4. Gothitelle - This Pokémon better fits the theme I was aiming for than Espathra. Also, I don't know why, but Gothitelle seems like it fits Geeta's aesthetics.
    5. Gholdengo - I think at least one NPC Trainer should have used Gholdengo so players can at least have it registered in their Dex. I also see Geeta being patient enough to collect 999 coins.
    6. Dragonite - I think every Champion, excluding Blue, Wallace, and Alder, should have a Pseudo-Legendary. I would have liked to give Geeta Baxcalibur, but it doesn't fit the theme I was going for. I will explain later on. Dragonite is a tough Pokémon I can see Geeta being patient enough to train. Also, I think Dragonite's warm and nurturing characteristics counter Geeta's somewhat cool personality (cool as in cold).
This isn't exactly the order I would suggest. I mainly arranged the team by the order I think Geeta would catch them on her journey. Glimmora would definitely lead the battle while Kingambit ends it. I chose these Pokémon because they all have the letter G in their names. A majority of Geeta's team already had this in common, so I just went with it. I'm not sure if it's much better, but at least it has one less weakness that half of her team shares.

    1.Glimmora - Toxic debris

    Sludge bomb
    Energy ball
    Reflect
    2. Garganacl - Purifying Salt
    Salt cure
    Fire punch
    Explosion
    Protect
    3. Espartha - Speed Boost
    Lumina crash
    Dazzling gleam
    Roost
    Light screen / Calm Mind
    4. Cyclizar - Regenerator
    Dragon Claw
    Iron head
    U-turn
    Shift gear
    5. Gholdengo

    Shadow ball
    Thunderbolt
    6. Kingambit - Supreme Overload
    Kowtow cleave
    Zen headbutt
    Tera blast (water)
    Acrobatics / Dig
I think that those mons, in that order with those moves and abilities would make her a respectable challange.
The goal wasn't to go complete tryhard. I only wanted to use Paldean pokemon. And I know there's some slight overlap but I don't it's too detrimental. She's still not on Cynthia's level, but I could respect this as a champion's team. Also no Bax cuz the elite 4 already showed him off.

    1. Glimmora, send it out to set up spikes and toxic debris. Moves: spikes, dazzling gleam, power gem and sludge bomb.
    2. Grimmsnarl, ability: prankster. Moves: light screen, reflect, spirit break and false surrender.
    3. Gothitelle, ability: competitive. Moves: psychic, fake tears, thunderbolt and mirror coat.
    4. Gholdengo ( like Cynthia’s spiritomb but way harder to find.) moves: make it rain, shadow ball, recover and confuse ray.
    5. The starter strong against yours.
    - Meowscarada: with flower trick, knock off, play rough and thunder punch.
    - Skeledirge: torch song, shadow ball, earth power and overheat.
    - Quaquaval: aqua step, close combat, feather dance and ice spinner.
    6. Her actual ace: Kingambit with supreme overlord. With ghost tera type. Known moves: terra blast, kowtow cleave, retaliate and iron head.

It's interesting to consider what Geeta's road to becoming top champion would have actually looked like. Obviously on her way to the top she never had to battle Turo/Sada and probably not the Team Star leaders, who were likely just still students at the academy or hadn't even enrolled yet, or all these "villains" would've been shut down prior to the player ever embarking on their Pokemon journey. She also would have faced Thyme and not Rhyme, or maybe there were other gym leaders altogether. While she is definitely the weakest champion from our perspective, perhaps in her youth things were so different that she actually did quite well. That said, this was such a fun video!

Nemona is the final fight for the Victory Road path which makes sense why her team is a bit more difficult than Geeta's in my opinion. And seeing how they rectified the team in the Blueberry Academy DLC, I genuinely think they purposefully nerfed her a bit more compared to other "champion" trainers as Nemona was meant to be the true champion battle at the end of the main story.
