      Same, I have a good coach but all they do is teach techniques which are helpful but when we do sparring we just know the techniques not how to trick the opponent. Especially when we vs a taller person it’s already expected the taller one is better which is sad. I’m still young so my parents won’t switch, videos like this are perfect!

    I really like the line from Kung Fu Hustle, " In the world of kung fu, speed determines the winner!"
    I'm a student of the Joe Lewis Fighting System, and broken rhythm is one of the techniques it suggests. However, for me, nothing gets my fist into my opponent faster than using the technique of independent motion, because there are two factors, not just distance, but also the reaction time of the opponent to see the strike.

    • @AndoMierzwa
      @AndoMierzwa  7 лет назад +3

      True enough! Economical movement makes it hard to see you coming!

  • @BradYaeger
    @BradYaeger 7 лет назад +100

    True stuff, at 51 I have noticed my speed and power are still pretty good, but reaction time is slipping. I think my mind is more focused on when that Matlock marathon is starting. But the element of surprise and tactics are now in my favor. The whippersnappers do NOT expect a combo nut shot/pimp slap to come from an old timer with a limp in mid sentence. Plus I have that grocery bag full of cans of Ensure to finish them off if need be.

    My tips
    1. don’t wind up your punches
    (Makes you slower and tenses up your shoulders)
    2. Stay loose
    (Staying loose gives you better flexibility)
    3. Don’t let anger consume you in fighting
    (I have gone berserk in fighting, and….I ended up hurting a 6th grader very bad. And I felt very bad. We were sparring tho so I didn’t walk up to a sixth grader and kick em in the face.)
    4. Don’t tense up your shoulders to make yourself look bigger
    (That makes you slower in every part of your body)

      @@AndoMierzwa it's more of a practical philosophy I won't bore you with statistics and theoretical science hahaha, as a result I came up with a dance and a technique a lil close to YiQuan techniques that I can do myself. pls feel free to check some of my practice on Instagram " Hunter9nine " .
      I only practice 2 hours per week, but it's a downloading process not a repetitive one.
      in summery I understand how the human body and psyche work as a machine, so instead of using any usual repetitive practice to train flexibility strength, reflex and balance etc I found more intelligent ways to access the body intelligence and structure (phi). so then I realized that the body knows how to do kung fu by it's own,
      if we have the right programs just like the Matrix movie, then the body can do it by it's own. it's a bout reaching a state when you are consciously unconscious.

    Interesting video, at 62, I can testify to the loss of speed, and I'd also that "Don't wind up" is even more critical as you age. I got sloppy and that rapid backwards jerk followed by an even quicker movement forward literally tore my rotator cuff and a bicep tendon. I'm having surgery soon to fix it! when I was 25 that never would have happened. And being fast enough is like the addage about bears- I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun the guy next to me! . Anyway, great video!

    Amazing as always. The manipulation of time and cadence was in bruce Lees Tao of Jeet Kune Do. Also ive seen the same concept played out in Ufc champ Max holloway's striking style

    You can put your hands higher , lower your hands or even one inch punch your opponent but what I can't stand is unintended wind-up punches. I hates it so much that I would usually counter with a jab but I go for an elbow instead.
    Don't do it unless you distract your opponent let's say you jab then wind-up and get over your opponents guard and punch their face. Seeing a unintended Wind-up is like seeing someone side kick with their toes pointing up.

    I´ve got this "Machinegun" style, punches in bunches like a mofo and it has worked very well in my old street confrontations when I was a short temper, hot head douchebag... Remember 19yrs old Vitor Belfort in the 90´s when he fucked up Wanderlei Silva? Well.... I can relate to that style. I´ve practice a lot my hands and elbows speed. I love punches in bunches and always going forward, or elbows in bunches, or punches and elbows in bunches mixed up. I don´t use too much my kicks but I gotta improve in that. Prime Tyson has been also a great inspiration for my aggressive fighting style, It´s been a while i don´t have a fight and I hope to keep living a happy life. Thanks for the video sensei Ando.

    I totally agree my friend you get very very many good points. Also I didn't finish so I'm gonna make sure that I finish this video so I don't go over the top something! One thing is as overtime does say the more you know something the better you are at it meaning. Master seems to move faster than anyone ever thought he could? That's a true point because he understood it when you get something you set up a movement to create that situation and if he was the one that actually work with you want it over years and years he or she might be able to step in front of the movement or go in front of it a way!
    That's how counters are taken into consideration and used and that's how you overextend people creating throws and take downs. And that's how you are able to be in front of the lieutenant it's from time but a long time of practice
