So: reaction time, learning the activity through practice and repetition, boxing training, hand-eye coordination, and timing (unmentioned, but an essential element of prediction). This was great but it would've been a lot easier with speed in the mix. No matter how good your reflexes / reactions are, your body might not be fast enough to execute the moves you want it to. Low speed can be compensated for with timing, but why compensate when you can have both speed+timing. In other situations, you wouldn't just need speed, but general athleticism as well. Speed+athleticism will serve you in any situation which needs fast reactions because timing can only help your reactions when you already know what is going to happen next.

Reminds me of this one manwha known as the boxer. Based off of this, that would mean that the delay that a normal person experiences, he doesn't, meaning that he can act the moment something happens. Really interesting video overall and I plan to try and practice some of the things mentioned in here to enhance my own reaction time :))
You might know this by now, but for anyone who doesn't, using a reaction time test on a phone adds a lot of hardware delay. Often on laptops they can add up to 50 Ms extra, so imagine that with a phone. The incredible hardware latency topped off with an incosistent starting position. This could add another 150 ms, I know for me it adds up to 200 Ms more on my phone. Given that you have a good iPhone, you probably have around 100 Ms approximately. If you would like to accurately measure your reflexes, and train them with video games, I would suggest using a decent computer. You made a great amount of progress, but you could definitely improve even more if you optimized your training some more. Regardless, good work on this video! You made an incredible amount of progress! As for anyone looking to try this out, I would suggest to optimize your training. Through diet, and exercise. Thanks! N Good Luck!
This was an awesome video! Quick note, this is why some very technical boxers have a harder time against the sloppier brawlers. The technical fighters and most fighters really, are used to seeing and having the punches come at them in a certain way. But when you just throw punches and don't care how they land, it makes them unable to predict where it's coming from and breaks their response/reaction time.
to solo improve refleces/hand eye coordination there is good exercise :get your self a paper ball and stand in front of a wall closer then by your extended arm distance throw it with one hand and catch it with another and do same with other hand...repeat the process as fast as you can and use your peripheral vision to track the ball (paper ball cuzz it will not be symetrical and it will bounces of the wall in a more random patterns )
Wow, it's really cool one, surprise for me it hasn't gained more views so far. But what's really interesting, is boxer's speed. Like throwing a punch that opponent has no time to react to. It's interesting topic and as i've heard, it requires special training based on explosive muscle strength.
@@ooogaboogabahh9401 well headgear is used more against bruises not conclussion but I get your point. I've never had conclussion in my 1 year of boxing (bout included).

This takes speed but it also requires focus and prediction. This sort of training might be good for those with ADHD since those seem to be two skills we seem to struggle with. Thoughts?
I worked on Wines and Spirits section at our local supermarket, after a few years and many many times of accidently knocking bottles off shelves I got insanely good at reacting and catching. Nice experiment and results, although I think it would have been better not to modify the ruler drop (if you were at a disadvantage initially by keeping your eyes locked on the ruler, you should have done that the second time too, since want to measure your natural improvement in reaction time rather than the advantage gained by looking at the hand instead).
That is fair, but after chatting with Jo about how my biggest change would be predictive, I wanted to see how quickly I could notice movement in the hand and respond in time.

Great video, the only thing I'd say is that boxing without a coach can be very harmful long term because you're training to box improperly and those bad habits have a tendency to stick and be very hard to overcome later on. Anchoring bands behind you and working on properly extended straight punches with squared feet would probably have been better because it would allow even muscle development and increase fast twitch muscle fiber recruitment allowing for faster arm extension with minimal risk of hurting yourself or developing bad punching habits.

It's very similar with eyesight. Whenever we shift our eyes from one object to another, our brain simply does not register the image of transfer. It's blank. We're blind for a fraction of a second. It has to do with how our eyes move - not in smooth lines, but in quick bursts called saccades. This allows faster refocusing on a new object and prevents smearing of an image, so that no details are lost. But when your eyes arrive on a new focus point, brain hides the fact that no information was being recorded, so to speak, and straight up makes up what the object could have looked like a fraction of a second ago. The phenomena is called chronostasis. Our brains hides the information it considers useless and hides the evidence that it hid something. You can test both things by 1) observing the second hand of a watch, and 2) staring at your eyes in the mirror, moving from one eye to another. In 1) if you look away for a second, then back to the second watch, you will notice it linger on the spot for what always feels like more than a second. It's because our brains are imagining what the picture was like a fraction of a second ago. In 2) if you stand close to a mirror, and alternate looking in both of your eyes, you will see no movement of the eyes. Your brains is telling you that you're just staring in a fixed gaze. If you record yourself looking at your smartphone camera, you will notice this saccade movements, obviously.
Interesting video, glad you addressed the underhand catches, since I don't think that's really part of the challenge. You can also place the quarters on the back of your hand/arm and fling them up so you don't have to rely on a 2nd person.
I'm a street boxer pro, I just need to say he under ground the coins with is left? 9:49. It's a air grab, not a catch under-grab? It takes more than 30 days to master this technique by the way. Good try. It took us months to understand the hand and eye coordination pairing with speed.
Hey great work dude! But IMHO your reaction time and predictability might improve of you use a contrasting background for better tracking. Great work again!
@@GoalGuys yea when you're trying to catch something moving fast contrasting backgrounds work AGAINST your eyes the smaller an object gets because you can't properly see it's movement. If the item & the background are similarly shaded your eyes can see the part that's moving because your mind views it as part of the same image but for some reason a part of that is moving so something is wrong. I don't know I just made that shit up.
