I talk about hiking food and what I take out on the trail with me when I go hiking. I dehydrate my own meals at home and rehydrate them when I get to camp. I have 572 grams of food per day. So for this seven day trip my total food weight is 4,004 grams for 7 days which I am very happy with. I pack similar food for overnight hikes, just less quantity.
The pre packaged hiking meals I use here upset my tummy a bit. I now use Radix a brand from NZ made for athletes and packed with protein.

I'd love to hear about the food you like to take on the trail.
I have also done a video about the gear I'll have with me.
Thanks for watching.

All equipment was purchased with my own money. I am not sponsored by any brands. I just like to chat about cool gear. Some links are affiliate links so if you make a purchase it helps the channel out. Thanks
This has to be one of the healthiest hiker menus I'm found thus far. I love the way you prep your tommies! I'm definitely going to try that because you've inspired me to buy a dehydrator!
Thanks Kate very helpful. I wasn’t aware how you could dehydrate food yourself for trips. The array of nutritious new foods and beverages available for lightweight backpacking is amazing.
this is a great reference video kate - thanks for putting it together.
Very good. Couscous is very good. Lots of different flavours. No cooking just pour in some hot chicken stock or veg stock and leave to absorb. Tasty, hot meal if you add pepperami or cheese or jerky.
Great food setup! A few ideas in there that I hadn’t considered for my hikes and I like that you dehydrate a lot of your own food. Think I need to invest in a dehydrator someday! The commercial meals have definitely improved though, some better than others. Have a great hike!
Nice to see what you take along to eat. Those macadamia short bread things are awesome. Never thought of taking them hiking. Thanks for the tip.
There is something really addictive about watching both food list videos and gear list videos haha I have never thought to eat mi goreng for breakfast 😂
Great video. Thanks for sharing. My food was soooo heavy for a 7 day. New ideas are helpful for future planning✌
Wow that’s going to be a long hike. Very cool and excited to see it. Stay safe!🙏🏼
Nice food prep., that should keep you going through your hike. I take Mountain House meals as main meal for my upcoming AT Labor Day weekend hike.
Gave up on commercial dry hiking food a while back normally make my own. Great video again 👍
Pretty good tips! I love how much you say "whack"
Great to see some different ideas here. Thanks.
Great video! Looking forward to the trail video :D
Great vid Kate. Thank you. I like the dehydrated tomatoes idea - I’ll try that next time I fire my dehydrator up. Also thinly sliced dehydrated Kiwi fruit, with the rind on, is an absolute treat if you like sour bears. Any chance of you sharing your beef jerky recipe? Cheers mate!
Have a great time. Can't wait to visit the Budawangs and can't wait for your video of hike!
Awesome. Thanks for sharing that.
YUM, YUM, YUM!!!! Hey can you recommend a dehydrator?
Great video and great information
Love it! Cheers!
