  • There are a lot more hiking food options available rather than the usual freeze-dried or dehydrated foods available in camping stores. If you look around your local grocery store or supermarket, there are many fresh hiking food options available that you can put together and get creative with for your own hiking adventures.
    In this video, I talk you through a list of non-freeze-dried meal options that are cheap and available at your local supermarket for a 3 day and 2-night hiking trip.

    My favourite thing to add to my cold soaked oats is the PB2 peanut butter powder from Woolies - they also do one with cacao - game changer!

    Try adding walnuts, almond slivers, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds etc (and some honey or maple syrup)

    Kimchi is a great idea!
    I always bring some freeze dried miso soup. Not especially nutritious but warm, tasty and comforting.

    nice!! i love bringing a few tbsps of miso paste in a film canister, wakame seaweed & dried shiitake mushrooms with those udon noodles to make a miso noodle soup 😋 haven't thought of using the golden curry cubes before, great idea!

      Ooh the miso soup is also a fantastic idea as Woolies does individual miso paste sachets!

    Really good info, try the Aldi tuna and beans packet, really good when mixed with instant mashed potato.
