Considering Alfa's are not a typical car we see on my side of the world. Stuffing a Ferrari engine in it really makes the build interesting. I would have watched either way but I can not wait until you start it for the first time in episode 108 of the Alfa build. Keep up the good work!

Good luck on your build. I am stuffing in my Alfa Romeo spider,1984, a 2.2 ecotec engine ( 2003 ) built to about 235 hp. No turbo at 7200 rpm, and 180 ish tourqe. My transmission it a wc t5 transmission from a 1997 Ford mustang. You might want to think about that transmission, lightweight and easy to adapt. Also changed a my rotors to bolt on to a hat 12.19 vented all 4 corners, with 1998 Porsche brembo calipers,4 pot all four corners.

Wow, this is going to be awesome!
I guessed "Dino V6" in the comments a few videos ago because I thought a Ferrari engine would give it some "x-factor" while suiting the car, and a Dino seemed the most reasonable.
Little did I suspect you were going to go full blown lunatic on this build! 😅

  • @mclarenjohnf1

Great choice a reliable Ferrari engine also Alfa are back in F1, Sergio Marchionne put that in place just before he died. You are right some of the older units if you drove through a town you would have to change the plugs.

A 105 with a swap is a dream idea of mine and I thought an F20C would be cool because of the revs and high specific output...but Jeff's literally just living out Gran Turismo for real here and turning that idea to 11! Revs, highly tuned n/a, noise, drama, pedigree, literally this could be the ultimate build! One thing I'd love to see here is a fully custom and neat wiring loom throughout, I'd tap up the boys at Haltech maybe - they've certainly provided an ECU/loom for another build on YT.

I took my 68 Volkswagen apart to restore in high school...that was in 1999! As I write this I’m literally looking at the damn thing in my backyard practically untouched since I brought it to my house.
No worries you are moving at light speed compared to most of us.

    Dear Jeff,
To quote the sage, Capt. James T Kirk-"have you lost your Vulcan mind?" While I'm guilty of being a semi Alfa purist, this is nuts. My GTV engine bay is tight enough to make servicing difficult so I'm incredulous of it all fitting. The beauty of the 105 2.0 is its a pretty well balanced car. Alfaholics builds approach 200 HP and its by all accounts a hand full. The weight distribution is going to be off and I'm afraid while you will have breathtaking straight line acceleration, day to day driveabilty will be affected.
You have a cross member and frame rails to deal with and then there is the pesky issue of hood/bonnet clearance. The Alfa 2.0 block is cast aluminum as are the heads-its light and tossible. Its unibody so you should probably look at stitch welding the body seams to handle the extra stress.
Instead of Bring a Trailer it's gonna be Bring a Shoehorn

The Giulia has a Ferrari engineered V6 motor. So more than an engine from the "family", you are keeping up with the new trends. Thank you for doing that, I was a bit disappointed that the great Alfa Romeo inline 4, so advanced for its time, was losing its space in the project. A Ferrari engine is an "acceptable" foreign body (LOL) in an Alfa Romeo.

  • @Alfaduk
    @Alfaduk 5 лет назад +1

The V8 Montreal is built on the 105 chassis and they are a fairly sizable engine. But not really powerful in the big scheme of things. Keeping the Ferrari variable length manifold under an unmolested bonnet would be a challenge.
Gearbox choice will be interesting. Perhaps something as big and boofy as a Tremec TR6060 would be overkill from a torque handling ability, but would be so unbreakable and 1000% dependable............. They have a great feel and ratio spread too.
The diff will be another area that'll need love.
And the poor flimsy Alfa chassis.
    And brakes.
    And suspension.
A huge project to do well.
