  • Acura TLX Type S might not be as bad I thought. In this video I talk about why the 2022 Acura TLX Type S, although the slowest in it's segment, might be just the perfect daily for many people. I had the opportunity to drive the new TLX Type S for a full week and I learned some great things for this generation TLX Type S.

If you don't care about straight line speed as much but want a damn good looking stylish sedan and turn heads everywhere you go, with a panty dropping exhaust to go with it, this is for you definetely. I'm about to buy a used Q60 Red Sport soon, got my 370Z for sale right now. As soon as I sell it I'm nabbing the Q60. Would definetely consider a TLX Type S in the next several years. It's a stunner and I think you'd be super happy with it. Just too expensive for me right now. My mom has a 2013 Acura TL and it's such a comfortable and nice driving car. I alot of times enjoy driving it more than my 370 lol

I see this car in person either on the lot or coming down the road and too me it's like ehhh it's cool it's cool looking. The front end openings as you see the car coming towards you doesn't look good for some reason. It has a presence because of it's wide stance but that's it.

To me it looks better than the competition. It has more of a presence which I like. All of the cars it competes with look good too don't get me wrong, but most kinda just blend into the crowd in a sense. I don't see many TLX's around me, especially Type S. I have seen numerous M340i's, S4's, some Stingers, but only once a Type S. (I'm also in Massachusetts if that's where you are from, I am north of Boston). @@DarthStoner It’s comfortable. I’d say the standard TLX/ASPEC is slightly smoother but that’s to be expected due to suspension differences and low-profile tires. I wouldn’t say it feels rough though as it does feel like a normal sedan for the most part until you push the throttle down all the way.
Also, build quality is great. I’ll hear a few rattles in the dashboard but only in the morning when the temperature is at that certain level like any other car. And even then it’s not a loud rattle and it sounds more like expanding which is expected.

Mods are JB4, Swift lowering springs, and sprint booster. It's a completely different animal with the increase in boost and quicker throttle body reaction. Every time I go out in this car I appreciate what it has to offer. The db suspension, shawd, torque vectoring, quick transmission (bangs through gears much quicker with jb4 and sprint booster), plus the looks. Solid build as Im OCD when it comes to interior rattles....NOT ONE. Stunning coming down the road. The Stinger, bang for buck good deal, but looks awkward imo. I believe the TLX Type S punches up in the class and should be compared with the A6, 4 or 5 series. This gives the Acura TLX Type S extra points for me. I hope it's as reliable or close to my 07. In the looks department, I think the 3rd Gen is the most beautiful TL ever made. The TLX looks fine. With some minor aesthetic changes it will look pretty good. In order to get good millage, I started driving like a normal person :) years ago. In fact I should be looking at the normal TLX :D, but I want that Type S Go, Turn & Stop extras for when I feel like it. Other options? Don't want a Kia even if its better than the TLX. The IS 350. Had me locked on it for a while until I watched more in detail reviews on it and the performance & tech is very meh. Looks great. The Germans are nice, but to expensive in the long run for me. The Civic Type R is to sporty for my needs. Subaru WRX is an option since winters in Canada...
The TLX Type S has a nice balance of the things I want. Plus I get to stay loyal :D owned 2 Accords and the 07 TL Type S I drive now.
If anyone got this far reading this: Have an amazing year ;) What are your top 3 candidates for your next car and why?

I was beyond excited for this car and it would have been my 3rd Acura (I’m 24 and I’ve only ever owned Acuras), but I am extremely disappointed by its performance. For $53k (realistically closer to $58k thanks to dealers marking it up), it’s not acceptable to me that it is so significantly slower than other cars such as the G70 and Stinger. It looks so much better than those cars in my opinion but I just can’t accept the fact that the car will get gapped by every other sports sedan on the road. I’m going to get a S5 instead now unless the 2023 / 2024 TLX becomes more competitive on the road. I would also need for it to include features that those other cars have like a HUD and 360 camera (Insane it doesn’t have a 360 camera in the U.S). I would gladly pay closer to $60K for it to “fix” all of those “issues”.
Even after writing all that, it’s looks make me second guess myself all the time… it’s a beautiful car.

I just leased one of these cars recently and when the car is in transmission sport mode (engine can be in sport or normal) it will hold the gear until you manually shift, which is really the only way to get the most out of this car. The car was a bit of a let down initially as I think it could have been lighter and have a little more power (400 hp would have been great!) but the car is actually pretty impressive as a highway cruiser and has good performance for what it is. You just have to reset your expectations and realize this car is a solid value with Honda/Acura reliability, it has good performance and it is quite comfortable but it is not an m340i killer or anything like that. It handles incredibly well, the suspension is damped really nicely and the stereo is one of the best you will find in any car! I am actually pretty happy with it! I do hope someone comes out with a reliable tune for this car soon.

Great review. Car is one of the best looking in its class ... Value is definitely there... Wish it was lighter by 200lbs but hopefull after market can fix that.
For your transmissions shifting woes, there's a could me a few things that could be done.
1 - Sport + is mainly for canyon carving and track duty(doubtful people will take it there) aka pushing the car hard... Not meant for every day driving, It holds the gearings similar what you would do with with a manual when attacking corners. It's annoying as hell outside of those 2 situations mentioned because of what you pointed out.
2 - use individual mode...you can choose which chassis options you like... I personally like sport handling, normal steering and normal transmission for driving every day. If I want the aggressive shift temporarily I would hit D/S button to get it on it aggressively or to engage manual mode with paddle shifters.
3 - switch to sport mode the gearing is different if I recall so don't get that aggressive holding.
savagegeese showed some Acura marketing details that showed how the Integrated Dynamic Modes works.... Hope this helps

I’m sorry, but there are things that may be “secret” but they are in the manual. If you think it holds the revs too high, DON’T put it in sport plus. That is for corner to corner mountain carving. If you want it to hold your paddle shift command, put the transmission in sport by pressing the D/S button again. Then when you use the paddles, the display will show “Smx” where “x” is the gear it is in, and it will hold it to redline. You just have to know the details of operations, and maybe a week is not long enough.

This car is made for handling, around the track. That’s where it shines.

All, my reference to the LFA was purely figurative as an example of a car that wasn't appreciated until later, as stated before. Let's read for context and understanding.

Transmission is probably the biggest let down of this car. Honda probably didn't want to redesign the transmission significantly to handle more power and torque. This is probably why this engine is not that much more powerful than the standard V6. If they have a manual option, Honda can probably tune the engine with more power.

It definitely s a beautiful and reliable vehicle I love my 2021 RDX on sport plus in town or the highway it totally impressive. 0-60 is 6.7sec with a 2.0L twin turbo, I have 2017 mustang GT with 490 gross hp this RDX just love the torque from them turbos. Maybe Acura will have or need a new revision . Thanks! For the great content.👍😎🇨🇦💪

I tried to find this car in red earlier in the year. It was super hard to find and when I did, they wanted 5-7K above msrp. So I bought a Lexus ES 350 F Sport for a daily at msrp.

Mine won't let you do Jack in first gear, shifts right away to 2nd. I think the car is faster in regular D due to the transmission control.
