Hello, I have a big stack of very nice books that were in a mildewy building for a year. I would like to give them an ozone treatment. I have purchased the Enerzen ozone machine and I was thinking I could put a few books in a sealed tote along with the generator and let run 1 hour. I would have it outside in a covered carport. Will the ozone machine need to be outside of the tote for air or will it be ok to include it inside the tote?
I would have books standing up and pages open as much as possible. It would only kill mildew if ozone has contact with mildew. Have a sealed container (i am not sure what a tote is sorry ) and if you can manage to keep book pages open, and keep it sealed for about 1 hr afterwards, it should work. And yeah i would do it all outside.
Thank you for your answer, sorry, it took so long to get back to you. It took me awhile to figure out where youtube emails were going in my email box. I am happy I found your answer. Ok a tote is a plastic 18 gallon box with a snap on lid. (deminsions; 23 1/8th inches long, 18 1/8th inches wide and 14 7/8th inches high or 58.7 cm x 46cm x 37.8cm) The one I have does not have any holes for air flow. I have gotten permission to use a neighbors small camp trailer, closed all windows tightly and stood up the books on the hard wood floor so the ozone machine can flutter the pages. I have treated them in 30 minute increments for 5 times and there is still a hint of smell. This is 30 books, I treat 10 to 12 at a time. Then I open the trailer door after 1 hour to let fresh air in then 30 min sometimes an hour later I go in and look silly smelling covers and fanning pages to see if the books are ok to bring into the house. My original question I didn't explain very well was: "will I burn out the fan motor ozone machine if I enclose it in a box/tote, since it will only have the air in the box/tote to use? Does the ozone machine need to be in a room or a car in order to work properly?
@@vickiebell9798 No i don't think it should burn the motor as it would still have room air flow through the motor to keep it cool. Has it at least made some difference?

I have treated them 30 minutes at least 5 times I bring them in the house and after a day or I can smell the mildew odor after the house has been closed up for an hour or more. For some reason and it might have been from the instructions it said to start with 30 min. treatment. I then let the room stay closed at least an hour, then open it up for an hour before I go inside to check them. They always smell fresh at that time. So it might be a work in progress for a long time because of the many pages of the books. I stand them up so the pages are loosely open. Hmm.
What type of residual odor does the Ozone Generator Leave. After using the generator it smells kind of like a chemical. How long did it take for that ozone smell to go away. I've had the doors open and a fan running for 3 hours after the treatment and that ozone smell is still there.
Yeah its kind of a chemical Chlorine smell. It took about 2-3 days to completely disappear. Leave the door open as long as possible. But after a couple of hours it would be safe to drive because ozone has a chemical half life of about 10 minutes, meaning its effect continues to reduce to half every 10ish minutes. However smell lingers around a bit longer.
A friend got a car that has animal sweat and urine smell in it. It is a good sized car a Pacifica 6 seater. How long should I tell him to run the Ozone generator as a good first try?
I would run it for atleast 2 hrs. And then leave the doors and windows shut for about 1 hr. Make sure you also run the fan on circulation in the car so ozone also kills bacteria in the air ducts (make sure it's set to circulation or it'll just keep on pushing in fresh air) Good luck .

If any smells return, just do another treatment and that should do the trick. Smoke smell in my friend's car went away completely after 2 treatments.
