Ozone is also used in the bottled water industry. That little empty bit in a bottled water is actually ozone. Just before the cap goes on the ozone is added to extend the shelf life of the bottled water. This gives the bottle of water about a year before it starts going stale. Without the ozone a bottle of water starts going stale in just a few months. 10 years ago when times were tough, I took a job at a water bottling factory.
Interesting. It also comes out when I use my electric plasma lighter and I was wondering if it was harmful to breathe in small quantities (like smoking isn't lol)
Water expires wtf? I have cases of water stacked up for emergencies and it’s more than 5 years old.. had a water bottle the other day and it tasted just fine
I stayed at a motel, the lying manager told me the room was non-smoking. I was so ill in the AM, I had to stop my trip. For what little money it would have cost to use the ozone generator. Everybody could have benefited!
In 2011 My Wife and I bought a used motorhome, sold our house and lived full time. Buying used I was prepared to make repairs and do maintenance. But, I wasn't ready for the mold smell in the bathroom. It seemed concentrated under the bathroom sink. I cleaned and cleaned and I even sprayed a layer of clear lacquer but the smell would not go away. It was a friend who recommended an ozone generator. It was pricey but IT WORKED, the smell was gone forever. We have pets now and it still works. Highly recommend. Excellent presentation and video "Zach Fields", thank you.
When I worked for Servpro, we were trained in using ozone generator's, as well as dehumidification devices to get rid of odors. We often had to clean furniture, and then place items in Ozone tents. The generators were also used in whole houses, to help eliminate odors after areas were completely cleaned, then isolated. They do work very well, but responsible use is paramount. Great video. Just rented one to take out cigarette smell from my previous tenant. Worked great. One thing to remember is NOT to paint your walls before using it. Otherwise you seal the smell and it won't work
I just moved into a new house and it has a bad bad smoke smell but has freshly painted walls and new carpets! it won’t work at all in removing the smoke smell now that it’s painted?
@@ahmedkareem940 yes it will. If it was painted with a good paint like Kilz what you're smelling is not from the walls. It's in the carpet, ceiling, vents etc.
They, will work! I had a few bats that were trapped in the attic after a roof repair. Running the machine for about 30 minutes the odor was gone. Well worth the investment!
Just be sure to not run the generator indoors while animals are present. Ozone is harmful to living animals (humans included), so run the generator, then AIR OUT wherever it was used before returning pets or people in enclosed spaces. I accidentally turned on my generator while it was pointed towards my face and it is a pretty strong irritant. Smells like an indoor pool (chlorine i guess) but once its aired out all the odor is gone and youre left with a neutral odor.
Don't know/care how they work BUT THEY WORK i have 2 amazing units They've cleared the air in my garage/workshop & basement Plus to anyone who's complained of mold or mildew problems & I've loaned them out to THEY KILL MOLD & MILDEW. I refuse to be without an ozone generator. Thank you

Hotel manager here. Thank you so much for both of your very informative videos! I got our ozone generator today and am looking forward to doing this tomorrow. I will leave an update!
Ozone itself is relatively odorless, that chloronated smell is the reaction to it battling contaminates. This is what I was told to tell people when I was an Ecoquest Alpine Air distributor back in the early 00's, to start the machines as low as possible when first using because the home environment is usually massively contaminated by volitile organics. After a period of time, depending on the severity of the contaminants, the air will smell fresh and clean, to keep the machine at a set level to maintain environmental freshness, that you will no longer smell the chlorine.
Thank you!! Noticed a sign was placed with this information next door to apartment unit next to us. We complained about roaches coming to our apartment and figured it was them. They moved out. Also downstairs we think the same thing will happen. Nasty neighbors. We keep our unit clean and were frustrated with lack of response from management until we kept at it and forced them to come to our apartment and see the issue. We documented everything and let them know as well. They came quickly
I use an ozone generator to remove stubborn odors from refrigerator interiors. With a little patience it will achieve what no amount of manual cleaning can.👍
I just received the Enerzen 11000 model and plan to run this to get rid of dog and stale cigarette smoke odor in my apartment. Thanks for making and uploading this informative video, I was not aware of the 03 being such a potential health hazard. Glad I looked up a video. Thanks again, this info is truly helpful.
Got the cigarette smoke smell out of my Land Cruiser. Had 4000 miles on it and the smell was apparently masked … until about a week later. I was skeptical, but it worked, just took a couple of weeks and repeated tries. But it did work.

Is it safe to simply close off the room you’re sanitizing while the ozone generator is in use? Or do you need to completely leave the house with your pets, plants, and electronics for that time?
According to EPA, "If used at concentrations that do not exceed public health standards, ozone applied to indoor air does not effectively remove viruses, bacteria, mold, or other biological pollutants.". Furthermore, it is suggested that inhaling even relatively small amounts of ozone can cause sore thought, breathing problems like coughing, shortness of breath etc. My guess is better not to inhale it at all, if possible.
I know this is 5 months ago, but I would still like to say that I had an experience with mine... I thought it would be cool to use while working on my computer while it was running - BAD BAD idea for sure. After only a couple minutes, I found it hard to breath, and started coughing like crazy, and my throat became sore. I knew it must have been the ozone generator, and immediately un-plugged it. After about an hour my breathing came back to normal, and my cough and sore throat settled down. Wew!!. I won't be doing that again. Now when I use my ozone generator, I plug it in for a specific amount of time, and leave my home, and have not had any problems since I have been using it in that fashion. Hope this helps you or anyone else that may see this... Just thought I would put in my personal experience here, and thank you for your question which enabled me to share my story... ...Agata Rybicka is right for sure..., "that inhaling even relatively small amounts of ozone can cause sore throat, breathing problems like coughing, shortness of breath etc. My guess is better not to inhale it at all, if possible.".

Bought one of these Enerzen Ozone Generator 6,000mg Industrial O3 Air Purifier Deodorizer Sterilizer (6,000mg to run in my home. What about people food and pet food, do I remove it? Before using?
Thanks for the really simple version of how this works it’s a really smart way of broadening the amount of people that can understand these things as simple as they really are compared to many other topics, anyways nice job man will be watching your videos to be exposed to more knowledge I haven’t come across yet!!!
Important point! Ozone is toxic to humans. Be careful when operate this; 1- operate and evacuate the place. 2- ventilate the place after that with natural and outdoor air for a whole day.
Hi! This is the comment I was looking for. I accidentally used to much "Proof" pest spray in my home... the smell is still fresh and wont go away. Would you recommend this Ozone generator?
Can you please advice me you mentioned that you worked in pest control and need your help. I got many companies to get rid of bad smell because dead rat died in between walls and no success in finding it. Now I tried several products but nothing helped me. I accidentally come a cross this Channel by using ozone generator. Do you recommend using it and which company here in the states can remove the musty smell that drives me crazy!!
We used industrial sized O3 generators at work to bubble ozone through diffusers for water purification. It basically sterilizes the water by bursting any organic cells present in the water. It dissipates quickly with no residual odor. Ever smell the air after a thunderstorm with heavy lightning ?? That's ozone produced by the lightning charging the oxygen in the air. Smells fresh and clean. By the way, ozone is very corrosive in high concentrations. I've accidentally inhaled ozone on the job and wheezed for days.
He states that ozone exposure has "no long-term effects" to humans, but keep in mind that ozone is highly reactive and is great at producing free radicals. These should be avoided as much as possible. Use the timer for an appropriate amount of time for your particular usage and wait at least an hour after the end of the cycle before re-entering the space. Just my 2 cents.
Hey Alex, thanks for chiming in. You’re absolutely right, while ozone can be helpful when used properly, it is nothing to mess around with. I wasn’t aware of how ozone affects the human body at a cellular level. Indeed, free radicals are bad news and should be taken seriously.
I totally did the opposite an hour ago. I made an ozone maker out of 2 industrial units that are rated 24g/h each. Usually the one in the video are not more than 5g/h . I went overboard making the 48g/h. Just completed an hour ago, tested it for 10 minutes. I stood in the toom doing deep breathing, hoping it will purify me internally. and oops..... 😵 . Yes coughing, and sensative lungs, and nausea.... I went closed the room, and did clearing breathing exercise for a while. I am fine, while writing this message.
Everyone had an ozone generator when I was a kid in the 60s/70s. We called them "Blacklights" and they were cool. In the immediate vicinity of a working blacklight (UV light) you have ozone being generated. The UV light photons strike an Oxygen molecule in the room (O2), breaking it apart into two Oxygen free radicals. Other Oxygen molecules nearby become the victim of the O free radicals, being forced to accept it for a short time (O3). Ozone is what you get when simple Oxygen captures UV light. Ozone doesn't protect us from UV light, it's the product of the protection we get automatically from our atmosphere.
I have been using an ozone generator in my home non-stop for over 20 years. I also use it in my car when needed and when I used to sell real estate, in many of those homes. While I understand the science behind it, neither my family, pets (my dog lived for 15 years) or I have have had any problems with it. As a matter of fact, my allergies are exponentially improved with an ozone generator.
i've always wondered about this--that essentially 'it's a thing of semantics' to a point--and have yearned for some real-world offerings, such as yours. not discounting need for caution, education, and excercising good practice, but i wonder how much 'lawsuit culture' is at play here. Concurrently, i'd like to hear about the actual degradation of such things as plastics, trim, on furniture etc. thanks for your input.
StupiderThanJupiter My mother and I both had them (she died but she was just old)..we both had leather furniture, carpet and wood floors, etc...no degradation that seemed premature (i.e.; she had the same stuff for over 30 years). We both had pets that were not affected. I can’t speak for the experience of others, but I can say that in addition to our experiences, many of the other Realtors in my office had them in their homes, too, and swore by them.
Rocco74 Superhuman I have no clue beyond it being helpful with my indoor allergies, which, without the 03 generator, are quite severe to the point where I needed 2 daily medications.
I have an Enerxen unit about the same size (physically) as the one you're holding in the video. It works great in automotive interiors as well. As you alluded to, it does leave a distinct odor on its own but that dissipates with reasonable ventilation. I also recommend using it in a storage shed or workshop on a weekly basis. Different units "cover" a different area of cu. ft. so purchase accordingly :D
I've gotten srayed by skunks couple times on the farm and after I get rid of the skunk I take off all my cloths and put them in a trash bag and turn on the ozone generator for a minute then and tumble the bag and ozone again with the bag sealed. After that my cloths dont stink.
i bought a portable triangle shaped o3 ozone unit for 39$ a couple days ago and its more than enough. I could smell the weird metallic scent but nothing else so all i needed to do was air it out.
Great video and explanation of the ozone generator, how it works and when and how to use it safely! I am looking at a potential rental property that smells of cigarette smoke and I heard about ozone generators. Seems like a great solution to the problem! How big of a space is the one you have able to "treat"?
The manufacturer says this one will do 1200 square feet. I'd say the smaller the space the better. If you could go room by room and limit the space to say 200 sq ft that would be much better. It's all about getting a shock treatment.
Just curious if you ever did kill that smoke smell? We just moved into a rental property and the smoke smell is so bad. Wondering if it would be worth it to?
@@joooyceee100 It actually turned out to not be too bad. I did run the generator in a couple of the rooms but I'm not sure if that's what did it or if it was getting the crawlspace encapsulated and dehumidified. I ended up retuning the generator as I don't really have a use for it. You could always ask the landlord if they can try ozoning the property or something!
Hey Zach! Thank you for these videos! I've heard that the use of these ozone generators can cause increased corrosion on metal or react poorly with plastic or rubber. Of course, the information out there needs to be taken with a grain of salt I feel (on both sides - the "never use" and "always use" camps). Anyway, if treating a room once, is there concern for equipment located in that room? For instance, in a basement situation, should there be concern of piping, electronics, plastic insulated wiring, etc? Or, is the degradation of these components mentioned in reports due to long periods (months/years) of constant exposure?? Thanks!
Man my new place has an oven range vent that I've cleaned but still smells weird. It was covered in oily grease when I moved in. Ran ozone for 10 minutes and it smells so fresh now. They need to add this to botvacs lol.
I scavenged an ozone generator from a domestic refrigerator. It runs on regular AC power so I put a power cord on it and now use it to get the smell out of -not so fresh- refrigerators that we refurbish and sell. It works great!! In less than 24 hours it will entirely remove ANY odor that I have encountered, and believe me, I have seen the worst of the worst👃💩 LOL! Totally amazing and one of my niftiest tools!👍
@Kristina ohmy gosh that is one of the smells that will not go away with washing, with whatever. It only mosques the smell if you are lucky. And it comes back. We have had to exchange a number of times from it. What I do is nuke the interior for a few days with ozone. I have a couple ozone generators that I scavenged from another frig, and one more powerful old school unit made probably in the early 70s. Anyway it consists of nothing more than spraying a mist of water, not much, all over the interior then placing it on the highest shelf in the fresh food side, running the power cord through the hinge side gap in the door and closing it up. Wait 3 or4 days without opening, and when I do the odor is no longer there. Probably you could get one on e-bay. ? That's it. I guess also I clean out the refer with detergent and water and let it dry out first. That is the time when I know it will need the extra treatment. Works like magic.👍👍✨️
@Kristina OH-Wait!! If you look under my name, or I guess my 'channel' you will find my one and only video pertaining to the odor removal topic. It's a month or so old and I have yet to get a single view, and thus any feedback whatsoever. I wasn't expecting it to go viral. Only several minutes long. I see in my original comment I said "in less than 24 hours" but while it can achieve such a miracle, the time is subjective and directly proportional to the intensity. I am unsure about the results of multiple overnight treatments but I can only hope it will help.
Yes the car one is less the generator is epic. It really pumps out alot of 03. I'm just saying give the 03 plenty of air out time. It really noticeable when it hurts your lung.
Thanks for the information. Well descriptive. I remember being around an ozone machine years ago. I think we we're poorly educated on how much oxygen 3 air to breath in. I remember it was running a lot when I lived there. I didn't harm anyone but nevertheless I agree it's best not to be present when in use. Thanks again👍
Many ozone generators also have an ionizer feature - it's possible that was what you're thinking of - it has a clean smell, and it's completely safe to run while present, unlike an ozone generator
Ok guys… Do not use in occupied spaces is Key. If you can smell ozone similar to a light chlorine smell and are exposed to it for a long time, it not only effects the lining of your lungs but it will also discolor your skin similar to Rosacea on your face, chin, and throat areas. Thank you. This is a great video. I laughed, because it made me think of an Electric Vehicle. EVs cost a lot upfront, but maybe a better deal long term, because they cost less to operate, compared to living with an engine, spending money on fuel, oil, maintenance, and surprise breakdowns. And just like how an EV is expensive upfront, but will pay for itself in time. An Ozone-generator is a little expensive just to get, but will pay for itself in time, if you buy a lot of air fresheners and room deodorizers. And I imagine you just have to blow out an ozone-generator, or take it apart to clean it, and it basically lasts forever. I want one.
I have this exact ozone generator. I've been using it since 2018. It's Effectiveness seems to have decreased a bit in the past year or so so I think I need to clean the corona. But otherwise it's been an excellent tool.
Hi, thanks for the informative video. I have 2 questions 1. Does the ceramic plates inside the units have to be replaced once in a while or in other words do they work for ever? As my dad has a unit for 20 plus years can i still use it? 2. Can you recommend me a unit for fleas Thanks again!

That was fascinating! Could make a huge difference in some difficult situations. My neighbor is a heavy smoker. I’ve always thought that it would be nearly impossible to sell that house when the time comes. This product would be the solution. Thanks!
You're absolutely right! For that situation, the carpets may still need to be replaced, but the house can be salvaged without too much cost or hassle. Also, many used car dealers use these when getting a car ready for sale that may have been previously owned by a smoker.
I just bought one for this reason . We bought a business from a man who smoked these little cigarette cigar things for 15 years every single day & the place reeks !
So I was in a toxic relationship and became a hoarder, clothing specifically, now I am returning to the bedroom after being moved out for two years, the room reeks of mold, I plan to run the ozone machine to remove mold from the clothing, later will wash and store everything in clothing bags.
Does this machine damage objects such as tv’s, electronic appliances and clothes? Do I have to cover these items before using this machine. If so, what do I cover them with?
In high enough quantiles, O3 can cause metals to corrode and some plastics/rubber to breakdown a bit. But it takes a LOT to do that. I've "bombed" my house and cars several times for 12+ hours straight and have never seen any damage associated to the exposure.
This is a great video but I have a question, are these safe to use with electronics in the home? I found the exact one you are showing on Amazon but it doesn't say if it is safe to use around tvs, game systems, lamps and other household electronics.
I've not done any testing specifically with that in mind, but I have witnessed the oxidizing effect that it has on metal. I would remove electronics just to be safe.
My wife suspected her Tahoe had a smell coming through the vents so we started it up and ran it through cabin circulate and ran the machine twice for 30 minutes and all the smells were gone.
Oh! And how to calculate the dosage 5000mg to 35,000 mg under what temperature and humidity and how long to run? Do you need to put it on a high place, bookshelf, ladders/scaffold with fans pushing up the heavier than air ozone for it to circulate everywhere? And have the intake part of the ozone box ducted to fresh air so that ozoned air doesn't pass thru the ozone generator again so that foul smell doesn't seep into walls, cabinets, everything and you have an unliveable house? Afterwards, does it have conversion time, where ozone breaks down to safe air? After airing out is it necessary to HEPA pfft vac and clean off the dead mold, mycotoxins and other pathogens? I know the questions but I don't have an answer. Nowhere can I find this info. Why?
Place it somewhere in the vehicle that has enough open space (like center arm rest or on the back seat). Let it run for a good while... I would start with a half hour depending. Also a good idea to run the car's ventilation system the temperature set to cold (A/C doesn't need to be turned on) and the recycle mode activated. Enjoy!

I herd you say not to be there when it’s on do we have to leave for a few days? & does it leave something in the air that we would inhale?Thank you for the video I’ve never herd of this. M
@Michelle C use with caution, but if you run it for a few hours in the morning, go in just long enough to shut it off, open the windows, and turn some fans on, you should be able to re-enter that evening.
With a newly constructed house, I hear a lot about the “new house smell”. I’m not sure about baking my house. Would this still be usefully in getting rid of the scent?
I have a mobile home that I rent out and the carpet is a nightmare...if I run the ceiling fan on high to force the o3 down would it possibly be able to penetrate and eleminate or greatly reduce the odors? Also I'm assuming this works on ALL odors...my worry is there was rats in the ceiling at one time and would it be able to penetrate the ceiling panels and kill any of those smells too?
I know this is an old video but is there such thing as to big of an ozone generator? One I’m looking at is advertised as 36,000 mg/h plan to mostly use on cars but maybe on rooms of houses to
You said if people breathe in ozone from an ozone generator, it will irritate their sinuses and lungs. While looking up videos about ozone generators, I was surprised to see some videos about people intentionally going to "ozone spas" to have "ozone treatments" for illnesses such as chronic fatigue. In reading some of the comments, people said after getting "ozone treatments" they "felt like a million bucks," and "felt like they could run a marathon." Are these people lying?
I am a smoker living in a non-smoking apartment complex which is inspected every 3 months for any needed repairs and hints of smoking. I bought the enerzen 1 year ago and have passed all inspections. My neighbor just got evicted for smoking in her apartment, but not me.
I just purchased one. I am a smoker and need to remove the odor of 5 yrs of cig smoke in order to rent my home. How long can i run it or do i need to do it several times.
You can run it up to 2 hours, but I'd recommend 60mins, must air it out afterwords for around 2-4 hours. Then re-evaluate, if the tar smell is still present, re do it, until all the smell is gone. Usually it can remove all bad odors in one try. Also be advised you must not stay in the area/rooms while doing it

Thank you. I’m just learning about these. I wanted to know if this would kill my plants. You answered that question thank you!😊

1- operate and evacuate the place.
2- ventilate the place after that with natural and outdoor air for a whole day.

I work in pest control and it works great for that use our company has quite a few ozone machines
Hi! This is the comment I was looking for. I accidentally used to much "Proof" pest spray in my home... the smell is still fresh and wont go away. Would you recommend this Ozone generator?
Does this actually also works against bed bugs and mold?
Exactly! The free radicals will be absorbed in the system and oxidize within the body!
Longer wait hours air out thoroughly wash linens vaccum be careful with these things
@@KetansaCreatesArt my dog did two antibiotics I barely noticed sensitive breathing. I assure you it does damage. Be careful with the industrial unit.
Concurrently, i'd like to hear about the actual degradation of such things as plastics, trim, on furniture etc. thanks for your input.
hi! So do you think .the Ozone generator is also good for killing all the Viruses ? Like is cod-19 ?
That's a big part of why I made this video. There doesn't seem to be many accounts of real-world experience with these machines available online.
I use one for the car and truck and once a year for the bathroom. Keeps things nice a sanitary.
I have two of these units. I use them in the vehicles and also in a rooms after a deep cleaning
I've gotten srayed by skunks couple times on the farm and after I get rid of the skunk I take off all my cloths and put them in a trash bag and turn on the ozone generator for a minute then and tumble the bag and ozone again with the bag sealed. After that my cloths dont stink.
Glad to have some more real-world accounts of how effective ozone can be. I hope to never have to use it against skunk spray!

@@ZachFields how may houdx do you recommend for a 750 square foot apartment?
Thanks!
what about more personal smaller models? thanks for your video!!
XD
How do you do this?! I’m trying to remove curry smell from my fridge from a previous tenant
After shutting off the ozone machine, how long should people wait to go back into the home?

I want one.

Did you find an answer to this?
Great video thank you, just heard about these and was looking for a clear and concise video to learn more, you’ve delivered. Thanks 😊

On that model it’s only a timer, I got one from Amazon. Love it!
Do I need to turn off the AC or furnace when running an ozone unit? TIA.
No you don't. Circulating the air is recommended.
Why?
I got this to run my table saw and chop saw,. Not 2 noisy. Works wonderfully.
In a room about 300sf, how long would that small unit need to run ? Roughly. ?
What are some steps and precautions to use one in a vehicle?
Place it somewhere in the vehicle that has enough open space (like center arm rest or on the back seat). Let it run for a good while... I would start with a half hour depending. Also a good idea to run the car's ventilation system the temperature set to cold (A/C doesn't need to be turned on) and the recycle mode activated. Enjoy!
Will it take the scent out of unlit candles, soaps, etc in the room?

You said if people breathe in ozone from an ozone generator, it will irritate their sinuses and lungs. While looking up videos about ozone generators, I was surprised to see some videos about people intentionally going to "ozone spas" to have "ozone treatments" for illnesses such as chronic fatigue. In reading some of the comments, people said after getting "ozone treatments" they "felt like a million bucks," and "felt like they could run a marathon." Are these people lying?
