Hey guys, this I George from North Carolina! I live for these types of podcast. I'm a Marine Corps veteran 2000-2008, I have the gambit of PTSD, bipolar, depression, addition, brain damage, the list is long. This is some real stuff you two are speaking. I hope you two understand how positively impacting your show is for a guys like me! I have been listening for over three years to you and Joey rogan. Over the course of that time I have turned full circle. I was heavly into paikillers(2004-2018)but have recently quit. I'm still addicted but don't use like before. I see myself in a lot of what you speak, some good ,some bad. Never the less, it feels nice to know I'm not alone. I can always intendify with like-minded Brothers as yourself! Im in your church and your singing to the choir. Thank you. George Benfield!!

Im in the same boat brother. Im strongly against taking your own life, but sometimes its just to much and you cant take it anymore. I understand why these people did it. And i dont see that as selfish though. Its an unimaginable pain that no one can see, and most of the time it cant be fixed. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. And use the hotlines. They help.

I'm going to throw in my two cents on what John Doe said, as someone who's suffered with life long depression, and a few suicide attempts. I don't think I'd be typing this out if it wasn't for my experience with Ayahuasca, later Mescaline, and then LSD. It completely rewired the way I see my self and the world, the nasty thoughts are beautiful thoughts now. When I start feeling down I can more easily dig my self out of the hole. It's not a cure and that's for sure, but it really has helped me cope with my problems, and just be a better person. Much luck to anyone struggling out there, and like John said, do your research, lots of it, before you even consider taking one.

This is my favourite episode. It really sucks to go through depression especially at a young age. I'm 24 now and I'm still going through that fight of sadness and being alone and locking myself in my room because the outside world scares me. I had no education due to weird and unusual situation at a young age and it bothers me so much. It is painful when you have no one to talk to about it so you keep it to yourself and bury it deep down inside. I am trying to get out of it I really am, but it takes a hold of you and seems impossible to get out of it. Thank you Uncle Joey this was very comforting.

This is the perfect opportunity to say THANKS to my lil bother, Uncle Joey, Lee and Theo Von! I suffer from depression it's not a joke. A couple of months ago I considered leaving this earth. I have no reason to I'm self employed have ppl who care about me but just felt hopeless and like a failure none of the exercises was working to get me through this. I had my cocktail ready and the date and time planned. Than I saw Uncle Joey on "This is not happening" I haven't laughed that hard in months. So than I googled Uncle Joey and found the podcast. I one of the episodes with Theo on it and I now watch his podcast. I totally relate to all 3 of you I finally found a since of belonging and I felt Uncle Joey when he said something is missing and he realize it was music. A light bulb went off. I've been playing music that has brought good memories and my bother calls me everyday to check on me. If anyone has any thoughts of the dark arts(in Theo's voice) seek help or talk to a close friend. As for those that said they wish they was dead in the original post. Keep your head up the members of the church love you.

Worst thing about suicide of a close friend, family member...it´s contagious. You may have never thought of suicide, but when it hits close to home, you´ll start to think about it. 7 years after my best friend killed himself, i still think about it daily.i cry about it for a few mins daily. My health is pretty bad, and his suicide planted that little seed, that you can do this to escape this world. Statistics prove this, if one of your parents, friends etc commit suicide, your risk of doing the same thing goes up big. Thanks for this talk joey, really helped to put it in perspective.

I've been listening and watching TCOWHN since day ☝🏻 & this podcast Unc Joey & Lee Syatt did for the Church Family is one of my favorite podcasts they have ever done together. The powerful message they are delivering here deeply resonates with me because so so many people struggle with their depression, & internal demons while fighting these silent battles inside themselves often allowing their own worse enemy to LIE between their own two ears. The importance of speaking on the issue of depression & suicide prevention is something that is often sadly overlooked or mistaken for weakness when it is NOT. Unc Joey & Lee are spot on when they emphasize the importance of allowing yourself to be raw even vulnerable with those you love most and actually speaking to someone when and IF you do feel outta sorts in any way emotionally or mentally. If more people did and or do exactly what they are both emphasizing and that's reach out and lean on your REAL family or close friends or just be there for someone when going through a dark time that may indeed be the conversation or moment that you save someone's life without even knowing the positive impact you just listening or taking the time of day to check up on someone you see struggling. Depression and suicide doesn't discriminate when it comes to background, where your at in the career world, and or what your going through. Super powerful message and podcast that was elegantly delivered by CoCo & Lee. MUCH love and respect to you two for shedding insight, wisdom, and feelings on the importance of mental health awareness. CHUUUUUUURRRRRCH

Bro Lee nailed it: "when you feel like the world will be better without you." It makes so much sense, especially considering these middle-aged people that committed suicide usually have young children. They get to a point wherr they believe even their children would be better off without them. Damn. And then you juxtapose that with Joey, who believes his children need him. And he says he'd never consider suicide.

And my man, EVERY thing you say hits home with that... Im clean from that now for about 6 months, and this time around i really feel that smoking Cannabis is helping in so many ways. A lot has to do with what joey spoke about the feeling of "loosing somethinh" and joey had weed at that time, I found it a little later in my recovery. But its magic. Stay strong out there!

Lee, don't kid yourself, the effects of food on mind and body can be just as catastrophic as the heaviest drug use, if not even more so. It might not lead to an instant death like an accidental overdose, but instead leads out to a long drawn out death, with lots of hardships you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy along the way. I know this because I've been both the drug addict and still remain the food addict. Kicking drugs was a walk in the park- I just went cold turkey (no pun) and never looked back, because I genuinely never needed them; they were just a reaction to extreme boredom-, but food remains a demon I've battled my entire life and continue to battle on a daily basis- a demon the likes of which few people will ever truly and fully know. Recognizing it requires a certain level of introspection and honesty, which most people (especially those who are obese) lack. A lot of my friends are still into drugs and, frankly, I never understood how they could allow a substance to have such a hold on their lives; they let it define them. Then I realized my addiction to food was exponentially worse than even the worst drug addiction any of my friends ever had. None of their addictions came close to mine- nobody went to as great lengths to get their drug fix as I did to get my food fix. Maybe saying I was a "drug addict" isn't accurate, because I never let it get to the point where I was dependant on it and I think that's the differentiating factor between a casual (even heavy) user and an addict. But with food... when the hunger strikes, there is nothing that I won't do to silence it. It doesn't matter what time of day or night it is, how far out of my way the nearest fix is, what it'll cost me, how much it'll inconvenience me, what harm it'll do to my relationships in life, etc. When it strikes, nothing else in this world matters- it's tunnel vision and all you're seeing is that meal which will fill you up. It doesn't matter if it's 3am, if I'm broke, 20 miles away from the nearest McDonald's (or wherever it is I have my stomach set on)... I find a way to make it happen, because this hunger goes far beyond a conventional hunger which a normal human experiences. This is a seemingly insatiable hunger- a fucking monster. I have stolen money from loved ones too many times to recall just to be able to get those 20 nuggets, four double cheeseburgers, two wraps, large fries, large drink... because this addiction throws any morals you think you have under normal operating conditions out the window. It turns you into a devil. A self-righteous devil. You're not you. When that hunger- I mean that REAL *DEEP* hunger- strikes, my stomach becomes a bottomless pit that requires a hell of a lot of food and money to satisfy. And that happens at least three times a day. So, tell me, how then are the effects of food not as bad as those of drugs? I'm walking, talking, living, breathing (though who knows for how long at this rate) evidence that the effects of food can be infinitely worse than those of drugs. Telling yourself otherwise is just denying it. The thing with food is that everyone on earth needs it, so there's no stigma like there is with drugs. Even if the person at the drive through sees a 600 pound person hardly able to breath or function on their own, they won't deny you the order, because food is a life necessity. They don't know if you haven't eaten all day and have low blood sugar or if you're just a fat fuck lacking impulse control. There's no difference between a junkie shooting up heroin in the middle of a town square or a morbidly obese person stuffing their face with a bunch of food- one just happens to be socially accepted/expected, while the other is severely frowned upon by society at large. I'm a smart enough guy who's completely objectively and wholly aware of the detrimental effects of his actions, yet addiction couldn't care less about ones intellect- it shows no mercy and manifests itself in countless different ways- and so I fall victim to the same cycle each and every single day. I know I'm slowly, but surely killing myself and know all the steps needed to fix the problem, yet I continue to do what I do and stuff myself 3+ times a day with, I'm guessing 8,000+ calories, day in day out. I'm living out a self-imposed death sentence, but the psyche that this addiction has thrown me into is completely content with it and unwilling to change. Here I am, logically and systematically outlining the problem and well aware of the solution, yet addiction has had me in this inescapable vice for over 20 years. The evidence against what I'm doing to myself is insurmountable, yet I continue to do it.

I hope your doing ok brother. I used to be 430 Lbs and dropped down all the way to 170 lbs with no surgery, but a lot of hard work, and I was addicted to food like you, but your mind is stronger than you think. You can do it...May the Lord strengthen your body and spirit, in Jesus name, Amen

People keep saying when somebody takes their own life that they were so happy. They’d been the happiest just days before. I’m starting to realize that volatility in emotions is really bad. People who get extremely happy are more prone to get extremely sad. like once you own something great like a fancy car or anything, you’ve raised the bar and now normal isn’t normal anymore. Like the quote The more you know the more you realize how much you don’t know. I can keep coming up up different example from different aspects but thought it was really interesting.

I agree with what Joey says about trusting friends but it sucks cause I really don't have friends. I don't have anyone that texts me or calls me lol. I have more of a connection with Joey and Lee and all the others I listen to online.... that's pretty bad.
