True that if you’re already an AmEx customer - no hard inquiries for new applications. I got the Blue cash everyday a couple years ago (hard inquiry then), but more recently applied for (approved) the Platinum and no hard inquiry. In addition, i also applied for another one of their cards & was denied, but still no hard inquiry.
In the UK they’ve stopped giving sign up bonuses on Amex if you’ve held a similar card before within 24 months (ie even if you cancelled your Gold card 15 months ago and you apply for the platinum one, you won’t receive the platinum sign up bonus)
What I’m wondering is if Plastiq raises a flag for manufactured spending for AmEx. I’m seeing it’d be cheaper to use Plastiq than use a conventional balance transfer.

I’m one of the unfortunate members to have a pop-up for every application. I’m pre-approved for every card AMEX offers and still have the pop-up show up. Even after speaking with customer service, they told me that AMEX reserves the right to extend, or hold onto, any bonus. It doesn’t make any sense to me. I currently have 2 AMEX cards and went to apply for a 3rd today and received the pop-up. I canceled my application in disgust. I’m not sure what it’ll take for it to go away. I want the Gold/Platinum bonuses 🙄🙄

Hi Sebby just wanted to share a DP. I applied for the personal AMEX Delta Platinum on 2/21 and then the business AMEX Delta Reserve on 2/23. I was worried about the 1/5 rule but got approved for both (had to call in for the reserve approval).

Already heard your advice about not upgrading the Ascend to Aspire, but opening up a new Aspire and then possibly downgrading the Ascend card but as you say, maybe not until I have have it over 12 months, so for me that means 23 months. Great advice!! If I would have heard some of it earlier I wouldn't have chosen the Amex HH Ascend card to begin with.

2 different authorized user questions. 1. If I’m an authorized user from someone else’s account, does that AU card that appears on my account count towards my 5 CC limit? 2. If I add an AU to one of my accounts to help with spend, should I wait a certain amount of time to remove them after I meet minimum?
Fenway Mark my husband is an authorized user on 2 of my Chase cards, they appear on his Experian. Chase denied for CSP, but he called the reconsideration line and informed then that he was not financially responsible for them, then he got approved.
It doesn't hurt your credit to close a card. It 'could' limit your history if it's your only card / oldest card. It will lesson available credit if another card doesn't take it's place. This may cause a number adjustment in your score. But that score is a number, and doesn't have feelings.
Wow! I didn’t know about the 5 card slot. I was curious to the charge card vs. credit card verbiage. I have 1-2 store-specific cards that don’t populate on the AMEX app. Do you know if those account for the 5 card maximum rule?

I was applying for the ascend hotel card as I put all my spend on credit cards with other bonuses. Amex seems like they are punishing me from my mistake 30 years ago when I was 23. My card said I'm a member since 1989 but I have a $2000 credit limit which is the lowest of all my cards. Ugh I didn't apply for the hotel card due to not being eligible for the bonus. I just pit my trip on a other credit card. Oh well Amex 🤷♀️🏾
I recently applied for the American Express Cashback card here in Canada and there was no hard credit check performed. I do not have another American Express product so how do they know if I have a good enough credit history?... I think they can do a soft pull due to the fact that you applied and then became a 'customer'. The information on a soft pull must be good enough for Amex to determine entry level credit limits. A soft pull gives less information, but just enough information to determine reasonable credit risk.

i was approved for the gold 90k and still have a chance at getting the 150k plat same day however i passed on the plat bc i wont be able to hit both spends :( gold is a keeper tho and maybe in a few years down the road i can get the 150k plat, also maybe these points are getting inflated...

Generally non-optimal to upgrade, especially when upgrade bonus might be < intro bonus. Nope. Every charge card has an annual fee. Best not to downgrade because you lock yourself out of the bonus for that card if you have not had the card before. Cancel after 12 months
Seems a little excessive Amex’s clawback policy; not sure if it’s worth it for them to lose customers’ goodwill over (along with PP dining cancellation). Does this mean that you can’t buy SW airline gift card and have that counted as spend towards signup bonus? Assume having it counted for airline credit still works. Not sure what the big deal to Amex is: they still get their charging fee from merchants whether it’s buying gift card or not.

I have a question about a signup bonus. I have the BCE card. I did hit the spending requirements, but never had received a statement credit or anything to the effect. It was spend $1000, get $200 back in statement credit. Do I have to charge $200 worth of spend, let it hit the statement close date, then it’ll come off? I’m confused about it, if someone can explain it to me.
I had the same thing happen to me. I plan to call them and ask them what happened. Now they keep sending me a platinum offer, but I am hesitant to get screwed over by them and be stuck with a big annual fee.

@@christopherdriving6425 Of course, there is some grey area. I carry a credit card balance on my credit cards that are 0% interest. I recently used a 0% interest offer from Discover to finance a landscaping project. However, all of my other credit cards are interest bearing and I pay the monthly statement balance every month, avoiding all of the interest. Car loans and leases are ok. As far as car loans, you want the shortest term and lowest APR possible. However many you have is irrelevant. What is relevant is your debt-to-credit and debt-to-income ratio. You'll get the hang of all of it.

Salman If your credit is good it is better to apply for the new ones before cancelling any old ones as closing an account looks bad on your credit. And I would suggest only dropping the one with the annual fee and putting the other one in your sock drawer.
Regarding AAoA dropping -- doesn't AmEx backdate accounts/TLs to whenever your relationship started with them? It's been a while since I looked into this, but years ago understood that to be the case. And, if so, this would seemingly actually help AAoA.
I have none of these cards, but I love hearing your card strategy.
My annual fee on my platinum card did contribute to my minimum spend requirement. Points were released to me before a true $5k was spent

All the time! Actually they usually just have a big sign posted at the checkout. (European countries mostly)

My Platinum Schwab application was cancelled due to having regular Platinum within 90 days, so charges cards are affected by 2/90. At least for me.
Is there any way you can inquire from which bureau crediors pull your hard inquiries from before applying?

Does anyone have data points with AMEX Platinum loan offers? Are they treated like a new credit card for the application process? Meaning 1-5 or 2-90 days with a max of 5 AMEX accounts not including charge cards.
When you talk about cap on 5 cards do you mean just 5 amax cards or do you mean 3 chase cards and 2 boa cards meaning I can't receive any amex cards? plz help and ty in advance

i was approved for the gold 90k and still have a chance at getting the 150k plat same day however i passed on the plat bc i wont be able to hit both spends :( gold is a keeper tho and maybe in a few years down the road i can get the 150k plat, also maybe these points are getting inflated...

TLDR: Amex has a once in a lifetime rule for intro bonuses, why miss out on it? Exception = getting a mortgage in the next 6 months or trying to stay under 5/24.

Is it possible to downgrade the platinum card down to a card with no annual fee?
Nope. Every charge card has an annual fee. Best not to downgrade because you lock yourself out of the bonus for that card if you have not had the card before. Cancel after 12 months
Seems a little excessive Amex’s clawback policy; not sure if it’s worth it for them to lose customers’ goodwill over (along with PP dining cancellation).
Does this mean that you can’t buy SW airline gift card and have that counted as spend towards signup bonus? Assume having it counted for airline credit still works.
Not sure what the big deal to Amex is: they still get their charging fee from merchants whether it’s buying gift card or not.

I have a question about a signup bonus. I have the BCE card. I did hit the spending requirements, but never had received a statement credit or anything to the effect. It was spend $1000, get $200 back in statement credit. Do I have to charge $200 worth of spend, let it hit the statement close date, then it’ll come off? I’m confused about it, if someone can explain it to me.
I had the same thing happen to me. I plan to call them and ask them what happened. Now they keep sending me a platinum offer, but I am hesitant to get screwed over by them and be stuck with a big annual fee.

Do american express branded cards through banks count toward the 5 card limit? I have a US bank Cash 365 which is one of my oldest cards but it is branded as an AMEX.... curious about this
If you log in through the Amex website, yes. AFAIK, US Bank would NOT count.

I recently used a 0% interest offer from Discover to finance a landscaping project. However, all of my other credit cards are interest bearing and I pay the monthly statement balance every month, avoiding all of the interest.
Car loans and leases are ok. As far as car loans, you want the shortest term and lowest APR possible. However many you have is irrelevant. What is relevant is your debt-to-credit and debt-to-income ratio.
You'll get the hang of all of it.

I have 2 Crappy Credit One Cards and one has a annual fee. How do I remove these cards and should I apply for new cards right away after? I have 4 cards including the two Credit one

If your credit is good it is better to apply for the new ones before cancelling any old ones as closing an account looks bad on your credit. And I would suggest only dropping the one with the annual fee and putting the other one in your sock drawer.

Regarding AAoA dropping -- doesn't AmEx backdate accounts/TLs to whenever your relationship started with them? It's been a while since I looked into this, but years ago understood that to be the case. And, if so, this would seemingly actually help AAoA.
