Sapphire is 3X you just have to purchase online and go pick it up, or have it delivered. I have programmed myself to place my order the night before and pull in the parking lot on my way home. My budget is on point now with no impulse items because I don’t have to go in the store.
@@Catia-p9mHmmm I didn't know that! So I use my Wal-Mart + to order and I can switch between the Gold, BCP or one of the hotel points if I am gearing up for a trip.
Not sure about other store but I go my groceries at Kroger and they have something called "Kroger pay" . You only need to add your cc to their apps and use that to pay for your groceries. Chase count that as online pay so you got 3%
My setup is Venture X (10x on hotels, rental cars, 5x on Flights and 2x on EVERYTHING which makes it my favorite card), Savorone (3x on grocery, entertainment and dining) and Amazon Chase Card (5x on amazon purchases). I drive primarily electric cars so I don’t need anything for gas. All of my highest spend categories are covered for more than 2x points. And there’s no annual fees (I don’t count the venture x because it’s like them paying me $5 to use the card)
I love them both but for different reasons: Chase is affordable & flexible with URs. Hyatt & Southwest are great TPs for me. Amx has great cards, unparalleled service, they also give me the best targeted offers.
I have the Platinum card and get the annual fee back and more with all the credits, and that doesn’t factor in the value of probably 10 Centurion Lounge/Priority Pass visits per year and also using the points. I also have the Chase United Quest card and by charging all my estimated taxes and property taxes, I get loads of PQP towards a minimum status of United Premier Gold and maybe higher. So they both work for me.
Got both Amex and chase set up. chase overlap earning categories need to improve. I only have chase sapphire prefer but don’t see any benefits from my chase set up.
I’ve had more than half a dozen cards with both companies over the years, they’re both great but Amex has been more generous to me with retention offers, upgrade offers and far superior customer service. I will say chase ink business cards are tough to compete with though.
🐶I am a big Amex fan, but the limited acceptance of Amex outside the US has led me to expand my Chase holdings (just got the CIP for the sweet 120k points) . The 35% refund on points for the Amex Business Plat will keep it in my digital wallet. I envision holding Chase and Amex cards to earn points in their respective ecosystems and as a hedge against a major devaluation from an issuer.
I think the optimal setup is: Chase sapphire preferred (dining and general travel) Chase aeroplan (groceries) Chase hyatt (hyatt stays) Chase ritz carlton (marriott stays, lounge access, and credits) Amex hılton aspire (hilton stays, credits) You have status in 3 main hotel programs and have meaningful credits to offset the annual fees. 3 different free night awards and mostly visa and mastercard for optimal acceptance.
For groceries on the chase side Chase Aeroplan card is pretty underrated. 3x back on all supermarkets, not just in the US. You won't be earning transferable currencies but Aeroplan points are pretty versatile
🐶 I am a fan of both! I carry more Amex than Chase but the transfers to Hyatt from the CSP is a winner. On the other side the new Gold Amex has me in a tough place. It may be a cancel card come renewal to move dining over to the CSP and supermarkets to the Everyday. $325 is just too much for a mid tier card. The platinum is a lifer card for the benefits.
I currently have a bank of america 1.5% cashback card. It's been my first card. I'm considering chase sapphire preferred only bc Amex gold (I can get referred through my family or friends) has uber cash which I dont use and im not flying international a lot. The annual fee is worth it and I can use chase almost everywhere unlike Amex but Amex gives me a lot of travel benefits which I like
I hadn't heard about Chase dropping PP restaurant/retail credit, so this was a shock. But I imagine it would be much more of a shock if I found out when getting the check. Thanks for the update!
I do think chase would benefit a lot from changing the Sapphire Reserve dining multiplier to 4x points rather than 3x. Would add a much needed boost to the Reserve card to make up for the lost benefits, and also help match the 4x MR that AMEX gold gets. Would also be nice if the Freedom Unlimited got a base 2% unlimited cashback to make it catch up to the other options out there. That said, I won't be moving away from my trifecta (really quadfecta setup if you count the prime visa but I guess it arguably shouldn't, since you can't get UR from it). It's just too good and 1% cashback on dining isn't hurting my wallet. I'm using my custom cash to cover my monthly gas spend anyways and the other Chase cards cover everything else. I would just like some more differentiation and updates to the Chase setup which would make me even happier with it!
Chase doesn't feel they have to improve their cards because they are churnable. Every 2 years, people will apply to a large SUB or every 4 years for a CSP SUB (that later gets downgraded to a Freedom card).
You missed 1, chase have same prices listed for in network booking as Google. Where Amex, capital one or others have higher price. Only weak point is lounge access, chase have less lounges.
🐶 My current setup is CSR/CFU/Gold. Since our primary currency is Aeroplan miles, playing for both teams works well. CFU is nice because it’s a no-hassle 1.5 easy default, Gold is great for restaurants and supermarkets, and CSR becomes the default travel card. Also why did you cut out the dog tangent?
World of Hyatt card is so underrated with how great Hyatt points are. Even if you only get 2 ¢/point, it basically gives you 20% off at Hyatt’s. This allows me to eat at (usually overpriced) hotel restaurants. Whereas with other hotels this is not the case. Even with their top cards the points just don’t have the value.
The only way I would eat at an overpriced hyatt restaurant would be if the hotel gave me a dining credit, which only happens if I complain about something at the hotel.
🐶 agree about the willingness to watch longer videos on specific topics! If you were willing, then it would be interesting to see an in-depth review of an issuer's entire line (e.g. all of Chase's options in one video). Between the two, my preferred is Chase (with Citi as my catch-all otherwise). I've used Amex for strong sign-up bonuses for specific redemptions, but otherwise have too much loyalty to Hyatt so Chase gets most everything else
My experience with American Express I have met every welcome bonus that I’ve received from every American Express card that I have in less than a month per card. I apply for an American Express card every three to 6 months. I am in Papa after the first week of my first American Express card. My credit score is currently a 776 Experian 1 card in the last nine month and I’m still in pop up jail. My fiancé who holds balances and takes a long time to pay off those balances are getting 175K personal platinum welcome offers and me who pays everything so I don’t hold the balance every month with 10 K plus and spend rejected every single card apply for. Her credit score is a 690. I always saw the videos that are posted on RUclips saying that American Express target people who spend money. Which is not the case and my case.
🐱 I'm looking to travel to Japan next year and was looking at what the best card/intro bonus would be for flights. I think I'll look more into Amex gold/plat right now. Thanks Seby!
Love the channel man! All this CC is getting out of control and becoming like calculus lol. I can’t keep up! I’m just trying to fly business class overseas once per year. How do I do that!?
I have the Gold, the Platinum, the CFU, and the CSR. I was team AmEx all the way but I’ve slowly changed over to team Chase. I love how AmEx makes me “feel”. FHR is a much better program than Chases. That said, I mostly travel domestically nowadays, so the 1.5 CPP is a pretty solid baseline and it’s just so hard to justify the annual fees on the AmEx cards considering I don’t live near a city
CSR's portal conversion of 1.5 cents per point is why I keep this card. I have the Freedom Unlimited as well so I just transfer all the points to CSR to maximize the conversion. 3x dining and travel is still solid and the other benefits of rental car coverage, travel delay reimbursement, Lyft point bonus just make traveling more pleasant with extra peace of mind should anything go wrong
Great video! Although I have my DDA/Savings accounts with Chase I only have the Sapphire Preferred as a credit card whereas I have a few Amex cards (Hilton Honors, Blue Cash Preferred, and Amex Everyday) that I use as my everyday cards. Chase (to me) seems pretty rigid as far as approvals go (even if they say "pre approved") but Amex tends to just toss me whatever card I apply for and it does not count as a hard inquiry. Just my thought. Thank you for this comparison approach. :)
🐶 have several Chase cards and the AMEX platinum. Can easily justify my Chase cards. Struggling with the AMEX because of the low multipliers. Toyed with getting the amex gold, but not since they raised the annual fee.
If I got denied for the venture x for too many revolving lines should I just wait to reapply or apply for a different card? I have a trip coming in October and want the lounge access just not sure if it's worth getting something else or waiting it out.
Capital One is tough for approvals. I kept getting denied until recently. If you want lounge access now, probably the CSR or Amex Platinum. Also factor in the airport you're based out of and the lounges available there.
@@AskSebbywas debating on getting the Bonvoy brilliant since I just got the CSP and have to wait a year to upgrade. I can't justify the platinum but was debating on getting the bonvoy brilliant. Any thoughts on that one for a place holder?
If you don’t want to pay for the high annual fees on the Amex or CSR and you want lounge access, u can apply for the US bank altitude connect visa. No annual fee on the first year and 95 on the years after. You only get 4 free visits per year but it’s temporary for you until you get approved for the venture X. Then you can cancel after that.
Ive had the amex platinum for a year now i like the card for travel and lounge access but wish i could swap out some of the things i don’t use. Thats the caveat.
Chase because of the cash back option that Amex doesn't have. The credit don't always work if you don't use those products often. Then your forced to use them to make use of those credits.
🐶 1) AMEX, because we’re in a Delta hub 2) it was Chase originally but changed when we got AMEX Delta Platinum 3) AMEX for travel and Chase for everything else(mostly). I have a question Shebby; I have a special anniversary come up in about 11 months and I have 160K in points at Chase and 120K on AMEX, I want to save enough for aspirational trip for our 25th anniversary. We have the Chase Freedom card, but haven’t upgraded ever and have been with them for 12 years, HELP ME maximize our potential for a luxury trip? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
🐶 Still not sure which I should get. 😮I have the business platinum AMEX and have had it for the last 7 years or so. The annual fee is huge but was justifiable IMO when both Delta and American allowed for lounge access as I fly both often. Once American stoped allowing for domestic FC lounge access the value for me diminished greatly.
🐶 I am still trying to decide between the top tier of each & the CapOne Venture X. I fly in and out of DFW almost every week so the Citi American Advantage Executive card is kind of a no brainer for my situation, but I am looking for the best "wingman" card.
I have both Chase and Amex cards. The (Plat, Gold, Green) have never made sense to me. I feel you can get a ton more value from Chase especially with the Trifecta. One sweet spot not mentioned with Amex was their Hilton Surpass. Gold status, a stupid quarterly credit and amazing multipliers makes this a great card if you already have Chase and don’t travel a TON.
🐕Really liked that video. It explained a couple of things more clearly than I had seen before. Tried to use Cardmatch. What a big goose egg that was. Here I am with a Chase Sapphire Preferred and other mainstream cards and Cardmatch suggested 2 cards that were credit builder cards. I don't think so.
Mine is Chase Dominant with Savor One and Blue Cash Everyday supports Flex & Unlimited -> UR Points Sapphire Preferred -> UR Portal Savor One -> Starter Card + Entertainment Blue Cash Everyday -> Gas/Groceries Hyatt Honors -> Free Night/Good UR conversions
🐕 been wirh chase for a long time. I dont think I have changed my mind about things but i need to learn how to maximize my opportunities with the chase point transfer partners
We have reached the Nintendo vs Sega (or Playstation vs Xbox) rivalry portion of this credit card cycle. People will deal with coupons and high AF if they like/love Amex. Its become an emotional decision for many regardless of the math. The intangibles make some people justify an Amex Gold when their 4X spend doesn't match the hassle of the credits. Even more so for an Amex Platinum.
I have amex platnium, gold and csp. Used to be only in chase but work travel and growing family and income got me into amex. Unfortunately i m currently sitting on a lot of points. (Can I put this into high yield savings???)
Awesome video! I'm really considering accepting the 175K bonus Platinum Amex offer they keep sending me. I'm 5/24 so Chase is unfortunately out of the question.
🐶 I used to like Chase better but now that I have had the platinum for a year, I think they're even for my case. I'm really lucky in that there are options during the year where I can use the FHR program to get a free stay for a night and get all awesome perks that go along with that. If I didn't have that option, I would strongly consider dropping the platinum. That being said, I feel like it's actually very difficult to get more than 1 cpp traveling domestically in the US. What do you think is the easiest redemption to use for the Amex Platinum to get more than 1 cpp?
Amex because I got them first and they have solid travel value, I also am not in Chase’s approval range and haven’t been for a while. I gave up caring about Chase since I continue to grab approvals else where at lmao/24 and have cards with similar or better rewards than Chase.
Do you have an opinion on a very niche thing, My wife and i are going through the ladder and building cards now. Is it wise for us both to get the chase freedom unlimited seperate accounts, or should one of us get chase, one of us get amex, and so on and so forth for capital one, citi etc. Or does it behoove a couple to both have one of their own each individual accounts?
🐶 I got my hands on a real nice Chase Sapphire Preferred sign on offer in June, and I just finished building the trifecta. Amex seems a little rich for my blood. I also use a bog standard Discover It card, which was the only card I owned until recently. Is there a good way to tell if my local airport is a hub for a specific airline? I use Kansas City International Airport. I'm cooling off on cards after getting the trifecta, but I am interested in airlines since it's a new world to me.
Hi Sebby, I had the delta gold about 6 years ago- I tried applying for the delta platinum and I’m in pop up jail 😭 I’ve tried every which way to get out of it but I can’t seem to get approved for the welcome bonus. Any tips?
@TrailNachos Chase. I have the CSP and you can decline the insurance from the rental car agency because you are fully covered with Chase unlike Amex. Which I have the Amex gold as well
The multiplier I think was the weakest argument. You would have to shop at grocery stores, just for the gold. Amex doesn’t have a catch all like capital one or chase. If you shop at target or Walmart, the gold won’t work. Just saying.
Amx offers the BBP with 2x or the cash magnet for 1.5%. Also the Gold & BCP work at neighborhood market Walmarts just not the big super center Walmarts
I would argue chase has far better multipliers. 2.25cpp base with the freedom and CSR. maybe you lose a bit on groceries, but you make that up by far on all other purchases through out the month/yr. 4.5x on all travel with the CSR is amazing, when we are on a trip we rack up tons of points between flights, hotels, transportation, amex cant come close unless you use the green, but then you give up most travel protections the CSR provides. For us chase just works better, better multipliers, easier point usage, and no coupon books. I have amex platinum, gold and bcp, the gold is going in the trash next renewal, way too expensive for what it is. Chase trifecta + amex BCP is a winner for us.
🐶For me, #amex is #legacy, #chase is #handshake. #chase is easier to parse #benefits, #amex offers more benefits. But cobrands don't care about anything but 💲. Especially in 🇺🇲🇪🇺
Chase hands down, amex coupon book is so irritating. On the other hand if you're ok doing cibc staples gift cards, I get 5% on nearly everything, which is still easier than going through all the inconveniences of the coupon books on amex. 5% on anything!! Nobody talks about this enough, not even sebby
🐶 Definitely Chase over Amex, they are far more reasonable and my customer service interactions have been far more positive with Chase. Amex has a ton of * on things like a charge on the Hilton Amex (where the receipt said Hilton Garden Inn across the top, did NOT earn the points it should have with the Hilton card. They said it had to be charged to the room. Well that's a dumb caveat and a sneaky "gotcha" last time I ran one penny on my Amex, would rather use a company that is reasonable (Chase in my experience).
Love your content great video so I had a question. I had the southwest card for three years. I want to cancel it and wait for a higher offer. It’s for a personal card. How long do I have to wait to reapply to get the bonus?🐶
🐶 Even as an Atlanta resident who typically flies Delta, the combination of higher annual fees and the tedious coupon book upkeep for credits I probably won't use makes AmEx a no go for me. Would love a consistent grocery card for Chase, but can be plugged with either Custom Cash or Savor One. Views on these two haven't changed much over time, but I do think Cap One has made some strong plays in the last couple years.

Y'all are lacking on the CSR, if you maximize the travel and good credit it's well worth over $1100
🐶 My current setup is CSR/CFU/Gold.
🙋♂️here for the long version of this!
I can't get one for another year and a half. Can't wait. I want to use it for off brand economy hotels near beaches.
I have chase sapphire preferred but I barely use it. I get the most value from my American Airlines Platinum card.
Does the reset of the Chase cards from the downgrade or when you first got the card before downgrading?
Mine is Chase Dominant with Savor One and Blue Cash Everyday supports
Flex & Unlimited -> UR Points
Sapphire Preferred -> UR Portal
Savor One -> Starter Card + Entertainment
Blue Cash Everyday -> Gas/Groceries
Hyatt Honors -> Free Night/Good UR conversions
🐕 been wirh chase for a long time. I dont think I have changed my mind about things but i need to learn how to maximize my opportunities with the chase point transfer partners
Thanks for the comparison overview. Loved your thoughts as I watched the video. Actually watched it twice! 🐶
Awesome! Thank you!
Sebby at 3:57, I see what you did there lol
I can tell you from my experience.. AMEX is way more forgiving than Chase.
The only thing that makes the platinum worth it for me is hertz status. I saved 1100 this year on two rentals
Nice!
I wish sapphire preferred and sapphire reserve had better multipliers.
🐶 loved your break down am stay with Amex give me my shoot .
🐩 ; i'm personally accumulating more chase points atm >>>
This video should have been Chase vs Amex vs Capital one tbh
I like Hyatt and chase credits are just easier and make more sense than amex.
Sebby, any thoughts how often chase does opening ptomotions north of 60k bonuses? When could we expect next deal basing on historical data?
Usually once a year, maybe next summer.
Always helpful Sebby. Thank you. 🐶
🐶
I got my hands on a real nice Chase Sapphire Preferred sign on offer in June, and I just finished building the trifecta.
Any tips?
❤ I don’t own a car and don’t have insurance, in your opinion, is Amex or Chase better for car rentals/CDW?
What about Cathay/Avios? I'd rate it as good as Virgin, especially if you're interested in more than Japan
Also RIP EWR
Hi Sebby, CSR insurance cover Cruise vacation purchased?
Thank you 🙏
🐶For me, #amex is #legacy, #chase is #handshake. #chase is easier to parse #benefits, #amex offers more benefits. But cobrands don't care about anything but 💲. Especially in 🇺🇲🇪🇺
Chase is better simply because they’re churn friendly and you can choose to cash out UR points at 1cpp OR transfer. Chase gives you options.
Exactly what I always say when I'm asked
Your power Sebby and what separates you from the rest is the specifics so deep dive it man lol.
maybe you could split that 2-3 hour video into one about amex and one about chase
Cathay Pacific for Amex redemptions are decent no?
Yes, Cathay Pacific is underrated. Just did a business class flight redemption for 115000 points from US to London to Hong Kong
Chase is much more simple. I dont have to play mental gymnastics to justify having a 2k annual fee.
He’s here for a good time AND a long time 😂
I have both chase is better to me
🐶 Only 1:00 in and the Ritz-Carlton card shows up 🎉
Love your content great video so I had a question. I had the southwest card for three years. I want to cancel it and wait for a higher offer. It’s for a personal card. How long do I have to wait to reapply to get the bonus?🐶
Wait a min of 1 week or until the next statement to be on the safe side.
@@AskSebby thank you
🐶 I like both. They serve different purposes.
Definitely would watch a 2-3 hour video. I’d rather have a video of substance, regardless of the length. 🐶
AMEX, I love then soft pull policy.
When’s the Roku LXR review coming? 😊
Soon on the Sebby Fung channel :)
