Discover was the first I tried to apply for, when I did the pre-approval process it told me to start with the Secured Card, luckily Capital One had also sent me a letter to apply for the platinum. Got that instead and I was happy with it, Mastercard is way more accepted.

Is it the secured Cap1 platinum card? If so it's not going to graduate and AFAIK you can't PC it either anymore (that info in this video was out of date even when it was first posted) so you're stuck with it at the eventual $300 limit increase unless they change their mind again, sure it's a starter card but if you're starting from scratch it's not so great. Discover's can graduate with a much higher potential limit after the seventh statement/eight month mark. I've never had any issue with Discover being accepted in the U.S. But if you need a secured MC or Visa and have immediate family that has military ties I would join Navy Federal Credit Union, their secured card can graduate relatively quickly compared to others and they can be generous with CLIs and very generous after a few months when you can apply for a second card from them.

    1. Discover It
    2. Chase Freedom
    3. Either Citi Double Cash or Freedom Unlimited
    4. Chase Sapphire Prefered
    5. 1 of the 3 Chase Hotel cards
Your 1st Amex card should be the Platinum with the 100k bonus. I would get which ever Chase cards that you want first and then move on to others.

@@princesskkay221 this was from 2 years ago. A lot has changed. Good luck downgrading. Wait for your annual fee to hit after the first year to downgrade and if they let you downgrade ask for your fee to be reimbursed. I say if they let you because they have the tendency to only let you product change to cards with the same annual fee. CSP is a good choice. If you don't want to go crazy deep into what card to use when for the most points and you don't mind the point hustle (maximizing point value when you use them), a great 1 card setup is the Citi Premier card... $95 fee with a $100 hotel credit. Double cash works as a great #2 to this setup and if you want to get deep you can check out their 5% card and the round up card.

Here is the route I took if you want to follow.
I went with Capital One 1st. Then followed with Discover it 1 month after. Applied for Chase Freedom 3 months after to have 2 cards with 5% quarterly. Everyone said get all chase cards first, but I didn’t really feel like it, so went with Amex instead. Then everyone said get the platinum, but I just went with gold as I am just a college student and that high annual fee is something I don’t won’t to deal with right now. Wait 3-6 months before applying for another card. Especially if there’s a bonus you want to meet!

This is definitely a good video, however I must disagree with your a few of your card choices. For the first two both of them should be the Capital One Secured Mastercard and Discover It Secured for building up your credit for the first 6 months, it's ideal to get both of them because it can greatly extend the average of your account age having 2 cards opened at the same time, they have no annual fee and it's true that at first you'd probably be wasting the cash back match.. But you really wouldn't be missing much considering how easy it is to get the Citi Double Cash Card, as for the third and fourth cards the Chase Business Ink Cash Card is just fantastic to get (business cards are really easy to get) alongside the Chase Freedom Card (Not the unlimited) for the rotating 5% Cash Back categories and none of them have any annual fees to speak of, just benefits.

2.) Capital One Quicksilver One => PC'ing to SavorOne this month (just got offer).
I'm very conservative with credit / loans however WF views that with high regard which now sees my total available credit between these two cards at $30k (most of this being WF). From someone that is 20+ y/o and has 15+ credit cards, I can completely agree with you. It can become a bit of a hassle to manage credit cards that aren’t from the major banks since their mobile apps do not seem to be the best for quickly making payments. However, I took the approach of getting all of those credit cards because I do know that part of your credit score is based on the number of account you have open and it’s recommended to have 10+ open accounts. It might temp leave you with cards that have lower limits, but it can be beneficial years down the road when you’re trying to qualify for a car/mortgage. Just my opinion though!

Once you get closer to my age, you will have so many account types (cars, houses etc) that card count is meaningless. Payment history is #1 driver, credit usage% is #2 and time open is number 3. Those are the big items to think about.

Declined once, respectively, on Freedom and Amex Platinum ; spent quite some time to claim the 2nd card's bonus as BoA's system is not that clever.
Shifu's quite right about 1 thing: Airline Fee is quite troublesome and takes a lot of effort to settle. Unless you do want to spend or know the way, avoid the charge cards. Blue cash preferred card is just as good with a lower AF.

@@andreleahong8957 I am not too familiar with hotel cards but the Hilton honors AMEX is offering 90k points if you sign up before 8/28/19 and has no annual fee. I would look into that and others that offer a free night a year.

What if my income is below 10 grand a year? I'm a full time student with a secured credit card and an authorized user card. FICO score being 753. I was just denied for the Chase Freedom card 2 weeks ago 😭😭 please help!

Mr. Sharp chase doesn’t weight credit score as heavily. They use credit history more. Reapply in 12 months and you might have better luck

My first cc was was the capital one quick silver One 5 1/2 years ago. I just recently applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred due to getting a pre-approved notification on the app. So applied and got approved, that was around 2am ( Work nights ). That afternoon I got a pre-approved letter for the Capital One Savor One. I applied and my surprise I was approved. How long would you recommend I wait before applying for the chase freedom card?

6 months. They might deny you because your opening up to many cards in a short period. You look risky to the lenders

People actually get 5 credit cards in a year? I had my first credit card for 22 months, with 3 credit line increases, and I just now applied for my second.

Had no credit so I got Capital 1 platinum, 6 months later got quicksilver1, 7 months later I applied for Sapphire preferred and Amazon prime at same time so it will only count as 1 hard inquiry but waiting on answer. So I also applied for Venture rewards after being pre qualified and was approved instantly with 5k limit. Hopefully Chase will approve too.

I'm very good about my credit and have a nice portfolio of no annual fee cards that can be the backbone of my credit history; however, my first credit card was the chase slate and not the freedom; it was a mistake I made I thought I wouldn't get approved for a cashback card with no credit history. It wasn't until a year or 2 later I picked up the freedom. I'm a bit bitter about it still lol :/

Do you have to have your own prime account to get a Amazon Prime Visa Rewards card? I was just planning on bumming off my parents forever.

If you like cash back I would go with the citi double, if you want points I’d go for the chase freedom or freedom unlimited to build a relationship with chase.

I started with a chase freedom card as my first card. Looking to get a second card, but not sure which one to aim for. I do know what I want for a future 3rd card though lol (Chase sapphire reserve). Maybe I should go for a chase freedom unlimited as card #2.
