- After picking up this album not too long ago, I became drawn to the drumming, particularly the orchestration of complex kick drum patterns underneath a straight 4/4 cymbal/snare groove. Vahle and The Mixture really stood out to me. After hearing the groove starting at 3:05 in this video, and especially the fill at 3:30, I knew I had to give Vahle a try.
Even if you're not a fan of metalcore and the screaming, you have to respect the musicianship of these guys. I found their songs sticking in my head for several days after listening, which is an accomplishment for djent music with so much complexity.

John, you are an incredible drummer man, all of your videos are so precise down to the last detail, amazing job with every one of them. And personally judging by your style and the genres you seem to enjoy playing I think a band you'd really enjoy covering would be Protest the Hero or even Periphery! Really hope you could, I'd love to see that! Sounds awesome man, keep it up!!

johnkew Yeah, Nocturne would be awesome, but another band to look at would be The Contortionist, specifically their album Language. Language I & II played together would be a bit long, but it would be an amazing cover.

Yes, I have a job that I love (and went to school for a long time for, haha), so drumming is mostly a creative outlet. It's a great way to blow off some steam, or to decompress after a long day at work.

That's impressive mate. I'm also trying to balance schooling with drumming. Right now, I find very little time during the week for drumming but I'm hoping that once I graduate and get a job (+some money), I might have a little more time to hone my drumming skills so I can drum at least 1% as well as you do :P
