The best thing about FSD will be that it will bring life back to the way it was in the 60s, 70s and 80s when you could all go out to the pub and have a few drinks and not have to worry about how you would get home.

Solving FSD is not just solving full self driving, it's solving autonomy, for everything, people can't see the forest through the trees.
Exactly, in addition to driving it solves for a hair cutting, a dish washing, house cleaning, clothes washing, warehouse working, farm worker, burger flipping, personal chef cooking, security guarding, errand running, and shopping robot that learns what types of clothes you like and FaceTimes you when it finds something. A Robot assistant that does everything.
The robo taxi could be built as a pure robo taxi but with an option to bolt on a drive by wire steering wheel. So it's important to recognize that "going all in" on robotaxi isn't as risky as it looks. Cybertruck has already proven the drive-by wire concept and I'm positive that Tesla has already taken all of this into consideration.

Stock price sucks but kinda exciting that Elon hasn't mellowed and is still very focused on pushing the future. "Renting" cars out trip by trip is a lot more profitable than selling them to people who will let them sit unused most of the time.

@@PromiscuousBoy The Robo Taxi concept is NOT first a new driverless vehicle that will be in a Robo Taxi fleet. Instead it is the software that will allow all Tesla cars to function as Robo Taxies. What better way to bring this to as many Tesla cars as possible than to create a 25K car that will sell like hotcakes and increase the fleet by leaps and bounds. Any Tesla will function as a RT. So the software is the RT not the car. Elon will reveal this in August as promised but the RT will be the 25k car which will function as an RT with a much greater range than current cars thus allowing for a substantial increase in miles driven per charge. The increase in the number of Tesla cars on the road will explode and so will the amount of data collected to further improve FSD pushing it to level 4 or 5 autonomous software. An actual vehicle with no steering wheel will then be produced but it's the new 25k car that will function as the RT in the beginning. FSD is already so close to being ready for this but on August 8th the world will be shocked by what Tesla has been hiding.
Would be great subtofuge if you wanted to announce the car and sell immediately.

Man this is rough for long term investors that are all in like me.
In short term the stock is going to take a big hit.
Most of teslas value today is based on automotive growth, and non on FSD. High likelihood the stock I going below 100$ if this is true. It will go up in the long term if he succeeds. But with this news the Tesla stock narrative will change and it will have to be revalued. Right now I’m selling.

Damn,I was so looking forward to seeing the model 2. In countries like NZ an AWD dual motor model 3 is over $80,000. There needs to be an AWD dual motor model 2 for say $55,000 in NZ. I would predict they would sell in the tens of millions world wide.

There should be more discussion surrounding the possibility of Tesla building the robotaxi network fleet out of privately owned vehicles, thereby earning multiple revenue streams.

The robotaxi design we've seen in Elon's biography is a two seater! Is that what we expected the compact to be? Surely not.
FSD first makes so much sense. Robotaxi and FSD can be built together with the small car. I would do the same. Another reason could be, there are problems with the tooling for model 2. Maybe they need more time.
Another reason could be the use of the robots for manufacturing, which need many of the bots to be built.

Why can't he do both? There's a lot of excitement about both, why not do both and not uneccessarily rattle ur fans and investors? Both could be very successful and if robotaxi doesn't scale as fast at least you are getting more affordable cars into ppl hands and advancing the MISSION...very unfortunate turn of events

Please learn how the system works; List your priorities, put all but the first one aside, do it.

I think FSD priority is silly. It’s going to roll out very slow. Regulators will be skeptical and some parts of the world you cant do it period why not do both. These are the same platforms. I find it hard to understand how you can get to volume for robo- taxis. Especially in Europe, India etc. i like the freedom of driving. I’m sure others due too
I'm surprised that you found a difference between 12.3.3 and .4. After a couple of hundred kms driving around the west side of Vancouver I can't see any change. It still drives like someone who just got their N (newbie) license and drives looking at only the car ahead. It is, to me, far, far from robotaxi capable.
Someone commented on it hesitating at intersections. It seems to me that if taps the brakes at crosswalks. If I have someone close behind me I hover over the accelerator to reduce the chance of a rear ender.
The driving is very frustrating (like sitting with a new driver behind the wheel that you are trying to teach). There is a parked car in the right lane half a block ahead and it pulls into it, then has to pull back into the left lane (repeat). But it never learns and does it on the next drive and the next.
It rushes (10 to 20 % over the limit )up to a line of cars at a red light and waits until the last maybe 50 m before it brakes hard (frequently using the friction brake a bit). A "good" driver would start to slowly reduce speed a block back giving cars that drive like it does a chance to realize they should slow.
It drives. It may well pass it's driver license test but it is far, far from a good driver and if we had a bunch on the streets people would be going to legislators asking that it be pulled off the road. That's what should happen to maybe 25% of meat bag drivers on the roads too.
At this moment, I am down big on my investment; if this were not the case, then I would sell.
I am in Australia and bought a Model 3 four years ago, including Full Self Driving Capability. I still cannot try FSD v12, or v11, or v anything, being stuck with the old Autopilot stack until Tesla decides to do something in Australia.
Short sellers are one of the reasons the price is doen....
With regard to people's interest in tesla. I think there may be some long term all in investors that are disengaging to keep sane. I'm one of them.

Elon reminds of Valve's CEO Gabe Newell, and the whole team for half life, that would leave tiny hints for their future video game products everywhere for players to figure out. Which massively drove organic hype.

I think FSD is already safer than hunan drivers.
There are some changes to make for auromomy. Ride hailing UI, billing and payments, taxes, reports, accident handling procedures, police interaction procedures, etc.
Autonomous mode, there can't be any disengagements. Tesla has accumulated disengagement data galore. In every edge case, FSD will have to soldier on. It's just more training. Compute and data are not holding them back.
Elin must have something in his head about liability. I'm leaning in this direction: Tesla might just accept liability and self-insure. But this probably won't make evonomic sense if they are not capturing 100% of the revenue.
If I'm right, robotaxies using customer-owned vehicles will not happen until the robotaxi product is more mature, bugs ironed out.
Biggest question in my mind is this: where the heck will Tesla get the legal and regulatory framework to permit robotaxies? I would not expect a friendly reception from Biden.
I am not surprised that Elon intends to establish a great big data center for robotaxies. There will be a lot to do centrally. Keeping track of can't-go boundaries, fleet scheduling, real-time tracking of traffic flows and obstacles, weather, all that jazz. Some of that data can be used to enhance performance of the privately-owned fleet - and data can be fed to the data center from that fleet to inprove robotaxi routing and operation, too.
Normally, we might expect an army of data inputters to be hired. But this is Tesla. AI will likely be trained to do just about all of it.

This is interesting. As a person I think they should make the car so more people have access to a low cost EV. As an investor though I am excited by this, but slightly concerned. V12.X is working super well, but its still not done. I think, especially if they concentrate on it, FSD/Robotaxi can be solved pretty quickly, but unfortunately no one actually knows when that will happen. My slight concern is that last bit of polish that makes the robotaxi work may take a long time. As in investor that could suck. Overall I'm still all in though. I think that there is a good chance they will solve it and solve it soon.

Why is it tesla can only do one thing at a time? Can't they make a model 2 and do fsd?
As a Tesla investor this has been the most maddening time over the past 4 years, this stock is going to 100 or lower, this stock is not a good place to be in for the next year and a half but I made a huge mistake and went too far in and now am stuck…lesson learned by me. But if I were a trader I’d definitely sell this stock and buy back when they prove this robotaxi out. FSD If solved is still 3 years away from regulators approving! So we have a stock that will be 100 dollars or less for 3 years I almost at times talk myself into selling but again not a trader but this position absolutely sucks!

This is very simple but humanity or let’s just say Wall Street is shortsighted. A 25K car can be done eventually by any car maker , but FSD can’t be done by anyone . Elon is using his competitive advantage that’s all

I can see why the compact car project in back burner because first there is no short supply of extremely cheap car, the competition is too steep for cheap car at this moment when the economy in China and the world has slow down , it’s like enter a cheap vehicle market at the worst time ever.
Robotaxi is another story. Eventually everyone may enter this sector, but at this stage, zero competitor. The waymo and cruise has no clear sight to be able to scale up anytime soon. So with this path without clear competitor for now, Tesla also have real FSD performance data, the company betting on a path that has zero competitor (for now), is way easier to reap the first mover benefit. And after robotaxi improved further public awareness of Tesla FSD and its performance, people would realize Tesla software is a new whole level. And by that time, you rollout cheaper compact car, it’s like checkmate to other cheap car in the industry.
I don’t think people know what a platform means. they act like it’s rocket science to add a steering wheel and pedals I don’t understand why people don’t understand.

Tesla's models are 4 to 5 years old. Your choices with Tesla are basic hatchbacks or a 80,000 to 90,000 giant truck. Not great choices for the consumer. Imagine if Tesla had made a massed produced basic pickup truck for $40 to 50,000? I know that Elon will never make any real money selling cars, there is just no margin to it. So he is going to get it trough FSD, Robo Taxis. The problem with that it will take at least 4 to 5 years to get any real payout from that. Will investors now wait that long? just my take but hope Elon succeeds.

There are already $10K - $25K EVs in China. It doesn't make sense Tesla to compete with those cheap EVs. Tesla should do what Tesla does best and no competitors at all, which is FSD and robtaxi, which has much more profit than just a car. Battery and material will be cheaper so will M3 and MY. $30K EV is not expensive at all. FSD and robtaxi are closer and closer to the real world.
The car would sell very well in ROW. I also think it would sell well in China. By your logic China would have zero returns.
