The C7 is a good car to buy used when the C8 comes out. When the price reach the low $30ks. That’s better than buy a newer Stang or Camero.

excellent review of this C-7 sting ray, Joe. I would be completely satisfied with that model after watching it perform. I guess I'm getting old, because I don't need all those ponies in the ZR1 or Z06, or even the grand sport. This sting ray is awesome. As to whether its the last front engine model, who knows. they might continue offering both, or, if sales fall flat on the mid-engine model, they might go back to the front engine car. I can imagine what they would say if they did. "WE'RE BAAAAACK!" Great job, as always, keep em' comin'.

I have owned a 1977 Corvette Coupe (sadly it was an automatic) and multiple C5s including 2 Coupes with Z51 and the Z06, all 2004s and all manuals. I finally got to rent the C7 back in 2016 I believe. At first I felt guilty spending so much to rent a car. However, after I pressed the engine start button and drove down the road a bit all the guilt melted away. I was BLOWN away by both the performance and the interior which nearly rivaled Porsche 911 in terms of quality. Funny enough I rented it in Florida (Orlando to be exact) and had a tough time finding curvy roads. I bet you can relate given you live in Florida. Once I did find some though, the thing cornered LIKE IT WAS ON RAILS! I can't even imagine how tight the cornering on the Z51 models must be. Great review as always Joe and keep up the good work. You need to own another Corvette as the ownership experience is really unlike any other.

    Some points to note
The calipers can be optioned in yellow, or red in any model.
The Z51 package removes that front licence plate. It also adds the spoiler. As well as a bunch of cooling, drysump oil system.
The base model corvette (as shown here) has optioned Z51 wheels. Base wheels are 18" in the front and 19" in the rear.
All corvettes have carbon fiber hoods and roofs.
The NPP exhaust in this vehicle adds the extra HP. Unlike in the SS Camaro where the transmission choice determines the final HP. Any stingray with the NPP exhaust regardless of the trans has the same HP.
The stingray emblem inside the vehicle is customizable from the factory you can put whatever you want on it.
You can set the drive mode (eco, tour, sport, track) to change the on screen driver display. Each mode has a different display. (Tour and eco share the same hud)

The front license plate holder is installed at the dealer for states that require it. I have a non-Z51 and the plate holder was in the trunk still wrapped in factory plastic.
The standard tire size for Stingray is now 19 front and 20 rear. You no longer need Z51 optioned wheels.

I like the chrome pieces. I think it looks more expensive and breaks up the various parts of the car and makes a great ascent material. I think some real, physical 3D gauges would add to the experience. Something other than the flat face gauges. No digital cluster, please. Front engine, rear drive is a very good layout. I'm not sure why the dramatic push for mid-engine configuration. I don't think it would be as pleasant to drive on an everyday basis. I've only been in a C7 once, but I felt it was very good overall and certainly a very good car at speed cruising. The only thing, at least to me, is the very high price difference from base to equipped. You can almost get another car plus a base Corvette for the options price.

When it's time to replace tires on my C7 Stingray, I'm gonna get non runflat to lighten up 5lbs of unsprung weight at each wheel, which is 3-4 times the equivalent of sprung weight. Also, I'll be widening the rear tires from 285 to 295 (.5 inch wider) for more grip because this engine is so powerful with 300lbs torque right off at 1000rpm that it breaks traction easily when you step on it.

    • @RaitisRides

I think that is a great direction to go in!

@@RaitisRides About tire size, I think I'll keep my OEM rear tire size of 285 because there's more tire contact patch for acceleration versus better looks of 295: www.tuneruniversity.com/blog/2011/04/wheel-tech-part-ii-size-matters/

If you are buying a base corvette its Z51 or GTFO why would anyone buy a vette without Z51 if you are going to track or not its too much performance not to have it its the same damn price used... performance gears alone is worth it better brakes better suspension a electronic limited slip differential actual working rear ducts bigger and better tires better and bigger wheels. Not getting Z51 shouldn't even be an option who wants a performance sports car with less performance lol
