Ford needs to come up with a way to have the owners update their own vehicles. Engine knocking? Press 1. Transmission slipping? Press 2. Rear end grinding? Press 3. If all the above is happening here’s a direct number to a LKQ…you’ve been a valued customer.

I went to vacation before I got to see what my master tech was told after taking the data, but a 2021 frontier was having 1-2 delayed hard shifting. No tsb currently, Nissan engineers just asked for multiple different active trans data while driving the vehicle. Guess we’ll see tomorrow!

This brings back memories of the 4R70w with the snap ring breaking on the overdrive band servo causing it to neutral out. Irrelevant, I know. But boy was it an easy fix if it didn't kill the separator plate.

Thank you so much! My 2022 Ford Explorer RWD 2.3 with 20k miles was giving me so many shifting problems. I hated driving it but was so busy working as an EMT that I put off bringing it in to dealership for so long. Finally, after it threw me foward after shifting so hard, I turned toward the dealership. They did not want to take it asap nor give me a loaner but after I barked a little they were awesome enough to check it out and take keys that day. They verified the car to be slipping and harsh engagements between 5-8 gears, burned fluid, Trans rat out of specs, valve walls were scored , failed air pressure check, etc. Got a new trans put it in about 20days total! I knew I wasnt crazy and there's not a lot of people talking about it tbh

It seems like all manufacturers are having shift issues with automatic 6 or more speed transmissions. But it’s odd that the two service bulletins aren’t combined when both the 6 and 8 are having the same issues?
Do you handle transmission internals, or have a transmission specialist there that you send it over to? So many specialty tools, but I suppose the dealership would have them all?

I am still experiencing a jerky downshift now from for two to one especially when the car is cold but it's a lot more subtle than the horrendous 7 to 6 downshift problem. I think it should have been a re and re for the updated transmission. One small group of rebuilders all set to go for the cores as they come in. For the average tech to get enough experience to do the job perfectly is going to take a while and what if they forget something...then it has to come apart again? Right back to the manufacturer under warranty whoever built them. Then the customer gets the right fix the first time(more often) hopefully. Very astute diagnosis.

what they really need to do is address the CDF drum bushing sliding forward on the 10r80's (ford trans tech here) the hoops they have you jump threw with these 10speeds is a joke and its a roll of the dice most of the time. ive found to remove the pan find a bunch of aluminum in the pan remove the valve body and air test the C and D to find the cdf drum problem. ive had a crap ton of the 7-6 down shift issues i dont ever put it in manual mode ill get up to 45-50mph and let it coast down if it slams down then ill check build date and go from there. issue with the early style is that the ring in the pump doesnt have dimples in it to keep the snap ring in place that over time causes the snap ring to work itself out. but i do love these transmissions its made me quiet a bit of money lol

I was wondering if you could give me some guidance. My sister whom after working hard for decades in retail decided to treat herself by purchasing a used 18' Mustang gt convert with the 10r80. Nice car but she's experiencing odd shifts and extremely hard shifts into 3rd and 5th gear. So hard that it bucks the whole car back and forth. Feels like someone driving manual for the 1st time. Do you know of a dealer with in an hour or so drive of chicago that's well versed in the 10r80 and mustang, that you could recommend. I was thinking of Hawk, golf mill, or packey webb. The odd thing about the transmission is that when the driving mode is in Normal it doesn't slam into 3rd and 5th gear, although it still shifts inconsistently and slightly rough at times in all gears. So in the modes Sport, Track, and even Winter it shifts hard into 3 and 5. Makes me think it's a programming issue. An owner of a 2018 Ford F-150 5.0 stated that he finally fixed his 10r80 issues when the service tech turned adaptive learning off, although he didn't have the slam shift issue in 3&5. Any advice or dealer/shop you could recommend would be greatly appreciated. Like the channel, could see it growing into something big....

(1). Yes - this article does not apply. Refer to other service articles for this condition.
    (2). No - proceed to Step 2.”
It specifically tells you their is another article pertaining to that concern and do it first. The 7-6 downshift is so hard you will think you hit something when that condition exists. It’s not a slight downshift issue.

We purchased a 2020 Expedition Max RWD which had the transmission temperature spike really hot, then start dumping transmission fluid. I'm not sure if the fluid was coming from a vent hose or what. The dealer said they need to replace CVS clutch. Is anyone familiar with this? This occurred the day after purchase, have literally driven it twice including 2 test drives. I'm wondering if we should immediately get rid of this thing or if the repair will resolve this long term.

Don't know why ford is having such a hard time with these transmissions when they were co-designed with GM, and GM isn't having as many issues. I have a 6F35 and the best thing i ever did was get an aftermarket tune that fixed the gear hunting and harsh engagement issues. I'm also changing the fluid in it at least once a year, along with the PTU as these are common problems.

My 2019 10R80 vibrates out of 1st, has a delayed shift when getting out of 3rd, and won’t stay in 10th gear. When I stay long in enough in 10th I get a P07F7 (incorrect ratio). At Highway speeds it will refuse to shift up to 10th and stay on 9th. Would you say it’s the valve body or CDF drum or both?
