im sure the filter is fine, why not just suck out what you can from the dipstick bolt and add what you pulled out. 5 mins and your done. you can do a drain and fill twice in 10 mins. your way seems alittle overboard

The customer wants a mechanic they can keep on their car just like a salesman wants a repeat customer and not let another salesman get their customer. Mechanics need to leave a business card saying ask for me next time if you like my service.
At a Subaru dealership I worked at, there was a lead mechanic that almost everyone asked for when they came in for service, and if they didn’t get him, he looked over the work that was done to make the customer satisfied
Great Video. I do believe the 2017 f150 10r80 is easier as there isnt much to take off other than the pan, but after that they have more parts around it that must be removed. Thanks for the video! Always appreciated.
I like Fords dipstick idea that makes it easy for the mechanic to set level but still makes it hard for people who just add "Dollar store" transmission fluid rather than getting a leaky seal fixed.
Used a Mityvac fluid exchanger 2.8 gal. on my 2018 F150 5.0 10R80. Got the clear flex tubing, couldn't use the hard opaque that came with it. First checked where the fluid was at ,..at cold, so I have a reference point. Just measured what it sucked out, then replace that amount. Top of first hash mark. 18k miles
Dang brother. I don't know where you are but I'd be willing to travel 200 miles to have you work on my Lincoln Aviator. I once owned a Land Rover and the dealer service was supposed to include a tire rotation but I knew for a fact (due to obvious tread wear) that they didn't do a damn thing. The entire service was $900 and I honestly don't remember what all I had requested but if they couldn't rotate the tires, what else didn't they do? If I had a lift, I would do my own maintenance like when I was a young man. But I'm 57 years old now and it's not the most attractive thing to me at my age. I'd probably drop the car on my head! Anyway I deeply appreciate your work ethic.
Ya there’s another one by Makuloco that I referenced on Utube. I bought the suction version worked great but you need a compressor to pressure the tank. They have a hand pump version as well. Mine cost $90.00 Canadian dollars from Amazon
Thanks for this video. My service department keeps telling me I don't need to change fluid until 100k. I'll be getting the trans and diff fluids done at 50k.
A Ford dealership told me they recommend a flush instead of dropping the pan due to the gasket on the pan. They say there is a chance it may not get a good seal and leak. Have you ever heard of anything like this ?
That’s total B/S and shows the Service Dept has no faith in there guys. I’ve been in the trades all my life, I’ve always said- If you want to be a tradesman, be a good one!

They said at 240,000km… I find this hard to believe because my Yukon with the exact same transmission requires fluid and filter every 75,000km… can you shed some light on this? I know changing the fluid on transit can be a problem due to the sub frame bolts rusting solid to the frame.

Hard to get warrenty work up here done.

Another great video Rich. Question regarding how to change out the fluid. My local Ford dealer does not pull the pan and change the filter. They hook it up to a machine and put in a Valvoline cleaner and suck out the old fluid but never change the filter. Then they simply add new fluid. I was surprised they didn’t drop the pan and change the filter. They said it wasn’t necessary. I opted to have a trusted trans guys drop my pan and do it as you did. Any thoughts on this? Thanks

Thanks for the reply Rich. Honestly, I was surprised that you would recommend doing the same service that my dealer is doing regarding flushing the transmission. I have always heard that flushing a transmission is never a good idea. Especially, on older vehicles. Maybe this flushing process that you and my dealer are recommending is a different process as compared to what others are doing when flushing a transmission? If so, could you explain the difference between the two and why the dealers process is safe to do? Thanks
@@claytonjustensen9042 It is different from the old "flush" way of the past, the dealership uses special machines that heat up and "exchanges" the fluid. Hi, you have any video about 6r80 trans service and reading the short small dipstick? I believe the dipstick only have A and B mark, there is no mark for cold. I did have my truck 15 F150 dropped the pan and changed the filter around 67k about 5 years ago. Should I find a shop to do it again or go to local ford dealer around. Most local ford dealer said they dont drop the pan and change the filter, they use the machine; the service is called transmission fluid exchange about 300usd.

It's been a while I would have to do one to be able to be 100% honest with you but I don't really find any of them all that complicated some of them can be annoying but not that complicated
So you replaced 7 of the 13 quarts in the system. Sounds like another drain and fill would be a good idea. Just measure what you pump out and replace with the same amount.
It’s it worth getting an aluminum tranny pan? I have a 2018, 3.5 and tow a 28 ft camp trailer about 6 to 7 times. Anywhere from 300 to 500 miles per towing trip. I have 50,000 on the truck now. Just thought if I’m going to have it serviced I could put a better pan on.
I am thinking about getting a new 22 Ford F-250 with the 7.3 and 10 speed transmission for hauling my travel trailer. What is your thoughts on engine brake in, and first oil change? As well as when would you recommend or not recommend towing a large travel trailer approx 8,000 lbs? Thank you for your time.
Great video!! Would you recommend just Motorcraft for the fluid or would it wise to upgrade to AMSOIL?? I run there SS oil and want to change everything over to AMSOIL in my truck… 2018 2.7 10 speed 4WD super crew Keep up the amazing work!👍
I have a 2022 F150 5.0 with a full towing package. What’s up with no transmission cooler on this vehicle? Also, I see there are after market deeper aluminum transmission pans available, it seems to me the more fluid it will hold inside of aluminum pan the longer you can run the transmission fluid at a cooler temperature. Would you recommend one of these deep aluminum transmission pans? These are great videos thank you so much for your efforts, I’m a big fan.
Yeah I would wait till you get out of warranty to do any of that and I wasn't aware that it didn't have a cooler I could have swore it does have a cooler
help please i have a 2018 f150 3.5 ecoboost i bought it when it had 35k miles and now it has 60k miles i am doing a transmission fluid and filter change exactly what you do in this video my question is it a good idea to completely change the transmission fluid which is 13 quart or is the 6 or 7 quart that fits in the transmission pan enough?
What part # is the gasket? My dealer gave me L1MZ-7F396-A. It looks different than any gasket I’ve seen before for a transmission. Mine is for a 2021 powerboost.
@@FordBossMe friendly reminder, part number for transmission pan gasket on a 2021 powerboost. Bonus question, on the same truck, how would you test cca and what results do you get? 12v battery under the hood is 800 cca and my dealer claimed 900 was read from my truck. I think this would make an interesting video. I suspect my dealer didn’t disconnect the second 12v battery when testing. These trucks with the pro power are new and yet another thing to account for when doing diagnostics.
I was wondering if you didn’t have to jack up the transmission the other video I watched the technician jacked up the transmission I’m thinking is it really necessary?
Ford boss - my 2017 F-150 3.5 with a 10-speed is about to turn 150,000 mi. I've never changed the transmission fluid and currently have no issues. Would replacing the filter and a portion of the fluid, what's in the pan, be a bad idea? I know replacing all of it and doing a flush is definitely a bad idea. Thoughts? Thanks for all you do love your channel.
Hey Rich, since you are on the topic of transmission fluid. How do you get the ATF fluid stains out from your clothes? I had to toss a few shirts because I couldn't get the staining out.
Hey Rich! I know you aren't big on flushes and I have had mixed results with them... I have an 18 F150 w/ 10r80. Dealer recommends the flush doesn't do R&R w/ filter service. They CLAIM they use a two step process which is part BG Quick Clean and possibly the ATC Plus Conditioner. They said the second step is a ford exchanger that heats the fluid and that plus the BG products keep particulate from getting in the filter. Thoughts? I've had good luck with some BG stuff but interesting they are doing the extra step, is that just to clean the cooler lines? Love the content!
My truck is a 14 f150.70,000 miles.Soon to be 10yrs old.Do I need to replace "all" belts and hoses.I stay on top of my maintenance but I had a service mngr quote me 2,500.00 to do this.Just wanted to ask what you think B4 I spend that kind of money.Sure hope you see this.Thank you.
Love the content! I've got a17 f150 with 145k first owner. Sadly I've never changed the trans fluid. Runs fine. I was told that a dealer won't touch the transmission or flush it at this mileage. Is replacing the filter and a good portion of the fluid okay to do? Doing this procedure that you just showed going to help prolong the life? I'm not having any issues with the transmission but I know it's way overdue for fluid service. Your advice is appreciated.
@@FordBossMe thanks. I figured leaving some old fluid but diluting it with newer fluid should be better than flushing it all out. New filter should help as well. Just wanted your prof opinion. Thanks for all the great videos.

Is this transmission plug and play? I have a 2018 expedition that’s on its 3rd rebuild on factory transmission with only 107,000miles. I want to just buy a new transmission and put it in myself but wasn’t sure if it had to be programmed after installing.

A lot of times they don't have the machine or the guys to do it because they've never done it because the manufacturer says it doesn't need to be done but it does

It's been a while I would have to do one to be able to be 100% honest with you but I don't really find any of them all that complicated some of them can be annoying but not that complicated
I believe this is the same transmission my 2022 Ford Transit 350 HR AWD.
Great job Rich!🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅
Hello, I am Muhammad from Jordan. My car is a 2019 Ford Diesel. How many packages do I need to change the gearbox oil?
So you replaced 7 of the 13 quarts in the system. Sounds like another drain and fill would be a good idea. Just measure what you pump out and replace with the same amount.
No no
It’s it worth getting an aluminum tranny pan? I have a 2018, 3.5 and tow a 28 ft camp trailer about 6 to 7 times. Anywhere from 300 to 500 miles per towing trip. I have 50,000 on the truck now. Just thought if I’m going to have it serviced I could put a better pan on.
Sure
What was the torque for the pan when put back on?
How’s often should the f150 10 speed fluid be changed?
I am thinking about getting a new 22 Ford F-250 with the 7.3 and 10 speed transmission for hauling my travel trailer.
What is your thoughts on engine brake in, and first oil change? As well as when would you recommend or not recommend towing a large travel trailer approx 8,000 lbs?
Thank you for your time.
As I've always said 1,000 miles no more that's when the first oil change begins
@@FordBossMe thank you!
Great video! Have you had one come back with a wrong fluid code with the right fluid from ford ? Please advise if you might have the time.
Not yet!
Thought the gasket was reusable? Gonna check my level this weekend. Heard a lot of them are under filled from the factory.
You're not wrong it is reusable this customer didn't want to reuse though
How many quarts does a 10r80 on a 23 ford f150 hold , planning on changing oil myself
The Ford dealership in my area don't want to do this process they only offer flush no filter replacement
Great video!! Would you recommend just Motorcraft for the fluid or would it wise to upgrade to AMSOIL??
I run there SS oil and want to change everything over to AMSOIL in my truck… 2018 2.7 10 speed 4WD super crew
Keep up the amazing work!👍
Motorcraft
Do what in the transmission pan, don't do all.of it
@@FordBossMe Perfect, I'll do it, thanks 👍
What part # is the gasket? My dealer gave me L1MZ-7F396-A. It looks different than any gasket I’ve seen before for a transmission. Mine is for a 2021 powerboost.
Remind me Monday
Possible
Ford boss - my 2017 F-150 3.5 with a 10-speed is about to turn 150,000 mi. I've never changed the transmission fluid and currently have no issues. Would replacing the filter and a portion of the fluid, what's in the pan, be a bad idea? I know replacing all of it and doing a flush is definitely a bad idea. Thoughts? Thanks for all you do love your channel.
I think you can't really go wrong it's going to have to be done eventually why not do it now whenever things are running good
@@FordBossMe thanks for the advice and reply.
👌
What engine is that , 5.0? I heard its complicated for a 5.0
Hey Rich, since you are on the topic of transmission fluid.
How do you get the ATF fluid stains out from your clothes?
I had to toss a few shirts because I couldn't get the staining out.
So I have a cleaning service that cleans my uniforms but I would think something like OxiClean might work
My 10R80 sounds like it's eating marbles at idle. Sounds like a straight cut gearset in it. Front pump I am thinking.
Keep all the garbage out of the transmission while they're doing the flush
It works
Thanks Rich! Appreciate your response because I know it’s always based on experience and good research. As you say often, “Educate Yourself!”
Thank you rich nice vid
So, how many qts did you end up using?
I think 7
My truck is a 14 f150.70,000 miles.Soon to be 10yrs old.Do I need to replace "all" belts and hoses.I stay on top of my maintenance but I had a service mngr quote me 2,500.00 to do this.Just wanted to ask what you think B4 I spend that kind of money.Sure hope you see this.Thank you.
Seems like alot
Do this apply for Ford Explorera with 10R80 or is different
Great video 👍🏻
F 150 2020
I have numbers what number should I be between five and six?
I’m gonna have my dealer drop my pan and do a fluid and filter change at 75k miles. Gonna have them do both differentials as well.
It should
@@FordBossMe thanks. I figured leaving some old fluid but diluting it with newer fluid should be better than flushing it all out. New filter should help as well. Just wanted your prof opinion. Thanks for all the great videos.
Thank you! I may have missed it but what do you use to fill the transmission back up? I have an excoboost mustang at 63k and plan to do this in my driveway. I have an oil suction tool for my jet ski I can use to get the fluid out but, wasn’t sure how to fill it?
You can find all kinds of oil transfer pumps on Amazon
@@FordBossMe that’s really helpful thank you!!
Is this the same process for the 14th gen’s?
Is this transmission plug and play? I have a 2018 expedition that’s on its 3rd rebuild on factory transmission with only 107,000miles. I want to just buy a new transmission and put it in myself but wasn’t sure if it had to be programmed after installing.
These Transmissions have to be programmed
Hey rich thanks for this. How time my truck 4 years old but only have 22,000 miles. When do I worry about age of oil? Thanks again
You can probably still push it out to 50,000 miles before you service it
@@FordBossMe thanks again
I took my 2018 2.7 10r80 to a ford dealership in my town to do a transmission drain/fill. I have now been back 3 times because it has been leaking. Why might this be happening?
I'm not sure there's really nothing that special about it I mean the service so I'm not sure what they did unless they drop the pan
Where are you located at?
All American Ford in NJ REFUSED to do this service to my 15 Explorer as well as the PTU. Unbelievable.
A lot of times they don't have the machine or the guys to do it because they've never done it because the manufacturer says it doesn't need to be done but it does
If ur close i would like to get you to do mine. I would trust you to do things right.
I did this to my 2018 Ford f150 and now it’s leaking from the breathing hole from the top. Any ideas on what it could be ?
Overfilled
Can you check the level while it’s running or do you have to turn it off to get an accurate measure?
Has to be running
Does the exhaust pipe on the way? I suck out fluid and fill every 12000 miles. Try to avoid drop off pan.
The exhaust does not get in the way
Love your channel Rich. How's Ryan from rk doing ? He's in my thoughts and prayers man.
There is no new update on Ryan
Hi! I have a 2021 2.7eb, what’s the transmission fluid level suppose to be at? It has the #1-6 dipstick, and I was told is suppose to between 4-5? Thank you!
Yeah that sounds about right
Rich another question no one can seem
to answer i looked all over the place is the motorcraft ULV fluid synthetic?
I don't think it's synthetic but it's definitely a unique blend
When do you recommend to do this service for the first time and there after? 2023 F150 5.0. Thanks
I always do every 50K miles if the xmsn has a filter and every 25K if it doesn't (some cars).
Isn't that pan gasket reusable?
will this work for the 5.0L engine or will i have to unbolt the transmission mounting bolts?
I do them all this way
So how do you change all of the fluid
With a pessure flush machine through the lines
Thank you
Great video. Not sure if you're willing to share, but can you tell us what the approx. cost of the trans service you just did?
It's 2.2 hours labor and then you're talkin 13 quarts of fluid at probably close to $15 a quart
@@FordBossMe Thank you sir!!
