- One of the many awesome people i met at the Northwest OVerland Rally was Travis. The creator of this totally built Ambulance that he converted to be the ultimate off grid tiny house. A cross between an Off Raod Camper/RV and a sprinter van this ambulance could take you anywhere for a fraction of the build cost of most van conversions. Travis has been living out of hes rig for the past 14 months as he tackles the Pan American Highway from Chille to Alaska. If you enjoy this video let me know and il try to make more episodes like this! .

I was a paramedic from 178-2001,always felt the ambulances would make great campers, this is great, thank you for sharing an old mans dream.
Steve Nash I’m a Paramedic and I’ve thought the same thing!
Thanks for all your years of service mate :)
Young man dream too if I can afford it.. maybe I day if I do buy it I will live it it
this is...incredible. the shower/hose off space, the laundry chute, all of these little things amount to a massively comfortable life. this is, i think, the most efficient ambulance build i’ve seen yet!
I was more blown away by his career...he teaches English to people in China...from his ambulance in Alaska!
I love the fact that the ambo comes in a great platform to build, especially at an affordable price.
I’m curious how well and military ambo would be for a smaller version of this.
Very COOL home on wheels ! HEATED FLOORS WOW !
I love it when people think of everytbing and address it in the video in a concise yet complete way ..totally awesome camper
Yeah that camper build is awesome. Hes building a tesla camper now!
THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR AMBULANCE BUILD HERE ON RUclips.
I've seen two or three other Ambulance to RV conversions and In my opinion a box type ambulance is a great starting off point, especially for those with a adventuring gene a 4WD unit would be great.
Great conversion I had not thought of using an old ambulance as an rv before but after seeing your video I looked into it more and found this is not a new concept. Glad I came across your video it gave me some great ideas
Yassss!!!! Keep em coming 👍🏻 Thanks for taking the time to video and keeping it real.
My second born, is teaching (on line) to China!!!
Got going when she backpacked Asia (and stopped to teach English in Vietnam-to earn her airline ticket home). She’s in Mexico now. Had a one year pitstop teaching in US southwest.
She needs a DIY camper!!!
Very cool 😎 love the conversation. Shower n toilet is a must for us and 4x4 would allow to go anywhere
The features of the ambulance offer a great advantage with the set up. Love it! 😍
Yessssss! Finally a new one on here. Thanks!
Best part is seeing the WV Inspection sticker in the windshield
So well thought out.
What an ingenious idea for where to put the shower!!! Smart, dude.
Awesome set up
Great energy man! 👍
That’s awesome!!
Love the videos and thank you for you service man! i think i was the 30,000 subscriber too so thats cool
This is awesome mate love the fit our looks wicked
I own this rig now! Just bought it today. Looking forward to traveling with it bd bringing it back to life
Wow! You lucked out! Hope you enjoyed the video!
Yes I did. Thanks for sharing. When you interviewed Travis, did he show you any of these components? For example, Did you see the AC system running while the engine was off? After spending a month or so reverse engineering the rig, I have no clue what he is describing on the 12v AC system and the webesto is non existent. Thanks
Quali-Tea Maxx. Keep’em coming.
Im totally speechless, creativity, proficiency, well thought out... Very nice build out... I've become a new sub... Nice!
Another great video!
I really like this set up.
So much love to us. Love us all. #vanlife
Maxx - as a fellow gen3 Taco owner and follower of your vids for that reason, this one caught my attention for a project I'm about to jump into. I picked up a 40' school bus to convert into a mini-home/rv. The diesel heat exchanger thing has got me way interested, because I've been trying to figure out a way to heat it without the bus running, that heat exchanger setup might be the way to gov or at least augment or back up a super high efficiency wood burning marine heater.
I super appreciate the awesome vids! Always fun, always positive, always inspirational and always informative. Thanks!!
Cool, thanks for the links
Nice edit man!
That rig is amazing
Cool build...
Keep it going!
Great setup, almost sounds like buying a used Ambulance makes more sense than buying a regular RV, far more options already in an Ambulance that even an RV don't have.
Very nice!
I am going with a 4×4 diseal unit instead of a army 6×6 truck. So many points I've watched from different owners.
That's sweet
Travis left absolutely no question unanswered. Including toilet, shower & occupation. Thank you so much. 🚑
Que genial saludos desde chile éxito
Saw this guy hanging out in Squamish, B.C.
Nice job...
That dog looks wild. But cool build.
“Me and the dog just rip around.” That’s my new grad quote 😂
Please show your office. Explain your internet solution. Show the water system in more detail. The outside compartments. The solar/12 V. install. What you did soup to nuts electrical mods/what you kept what you took out. You have a fantastic build. We might want to copy it. Show us everything. Thanks.
Nice
Good build, the cabinets look great! Your shower is smart! I saw one RUclipsr who cut a sink and placed it into the step area like yours. It was an actual steel sink with drainer with the front side sliced off. Lovely kitchen with the tiles and vent! Great work!
With regard to the English online teaching, did you find Chinese contacts directly or go through an agency? How do you get the high rates they charge the client paid directly to you? Agencies don't pay much to the teacher but the client pays a lot. Agencies make a big cut. I am wondering if you managed to get a client to pay you directly with no agency involved.
Thanks for a great tour! Good luck on your travels in this lovely van!
Wow
Pretty neat..
I have watched over 200 RV build and travel videos here on youtuBe. But you are the second person to have made use of the doorway as the bathroom. The 9 sq feet of doorway (in the total living area of 108 sqft) is wasted as nothing can be stored or installed in that space. And bathroom is one place you would spend not more than 10 mins in a day. So the best thing to do is to use the doorway as the bathroom and let water drain out without having a grey tank mess. The kitchen sink also could have an outlet in the open if you're are going to use it only in the wild or rural areas. I am actually designing a caravan for travelling in India. India does not have any infrastructure for grey tank or black tank disposal. So the best thing is to have a bucket toilet with plastic bags for easy disposal after every use. You really surprised me with your build and thanks for the upload. I was eagerly looking forward to watching a real example of bathroom in the doorway implementation and you did so. I got this idea from a lady who suggested doing such a thing to her RV in her RUclips channel. Good luck and a great time!
Saw your build while looking at ambulance build outs, but curious about your comment that the outside storage has to use up the inside. So far I just see builds that are using the existing ambulance interior, say, 90% intact still. But wondering if truly that can't be removed, and just leave exterior access doors potentially in "inconvenient places"...
Is that your view on it, you could remove all the interior and then just re-leverage the doors where they add value? such as:
- access to wiring
- locate water tanks near doors for plumbing, pump, filling, cleaning
- door to battery / inverter for solar (seems an ambulance would be the best thing imaginable with such a flat roof for either solar, or as some have done, a ladder and deck on top for sitting
Just wondering your thoughts on the pros / cons of a complete or nearly complete tearout to:
a. allow the space to be used to meet my space design better, rather than trying to shoe horn my desires around the existing build
b. allow a more complete "look and feel" to take over (e.g. tongue and groove walls painted white, and shelves and drawers as fits my needs)
Can you design a fold-up bed (multi fold if necessary) for the 'blank wall space. Maybe rest it on present seating+.
Many if not ALL ambos are "crash survivable" meaning if your loved ones are in the rear while driving and you get in an accident and they're strapped in, they are fairly safe. The alloy aluminum is VERY stout. Many scrap yards hate these things, lots of insulation, and VERY strong aluminum frames. I plan a build someday from a LifeStat body on an F-450/550 4x4 frame...IDI or PSD 7.3...not sure yet. He's under 5'8"...can't stand vertical in most.
How did he use all the outside compartments. I've seen several that converted with an actual shower. I'm really wanting to do this.
Hey Dude, pro tip: All vehicles in the USA with A/C have a 12VDC compressor, not just a Ford Escape Hybrid. Nice rig though! I'm a retired Fire Chief/EMT and I'm in the process of building my own rig using a 2005 Wheeled Coach Ambulance.
Info on the Escape Hybrid AC system would be nice. Not sure what components he referred to as running off of battery power.
Very cool. ..and you are a teacher too. ..awesome. ..can you me about what website is that online tutorial?
Who did your 12volts ac compressor ? And how?
Thinking of doing it too . Already living in e250 eclipse conversion but i still need to rent an office and storage.
Are ambulances already insulated?
Thanks!
Anyone see the cutting job around the window seal......?
Oh my goodness, this is cool, but I want info about teaching English in China-from home!!! That’s awesome!
Look into VIPKid
totally legit. I've been doing it for 4 years now. The company I work for is called Whales English. Here's a referral link if you'd like to apply: teacher.rouchi.com/#/employ/create?channel=referral&referred_by=teacher100043
Let me know if you have any questions.
@@grobadongguk I'd love to ask some questions if you don't mind
After the clothes are washed in the 5-gallon bucket, then how do you rinse and spin or wring them out?
Where did you get the couch/bed? Didn't see it listed above?
I would really like someone to make a video on installing the 12 volt A/C compressor on an ambulance
Same here.
Me too! I love how they kinda breezed right through that.
Because it didn’t happen, I own this rig now and the AC only runs while the truck is running. It only has 1 compressor and it is shared with the cab
I see Michigan sawg 😍
👍
How to figure out if a guy is a fire fighter?
Don’t worry, they’ll fucking tell you. Every single time 🤣
Nice idea on the heater. Too bad his webpage is so littered with crap that I can't get chrome to load it without disabling all security features.
What do you use to insure that you have quality internet access, for your job? I also teach children in China, and would love to travel while I do it, but need a more stable internet idea. Thank you! P. S. - I am currently working on an old Chevy Van 30 ambulance conversion.
Are you going to overland east?
Really dope build and the tour was thorough. Does Travis have an Instagram to follow?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
How complicated would it be to add a sleeping loft to a ambulance conversion?
What company did you use for insurance? Any special rules with the insurance company? And how beat up are used ambulances?
I love you all!!!
Why
Curious...... Why you placed a piece of cardboard to hide the console that has all the switches and siren controller?
Bro, he's gotta demonstrate that drive around washing laundry method hopefully from start to finish. Does he add laundry detergent? His dog looks like a dingo
More details on the ford escape 12 volt compressor?
I’d like to see more information on this as well
I like the creativity, but I'd rather waste space and get a decent shower room with a stable toilet.
Show a video on how the already installed ambulance has the heated floor/water ???
He ran a loop for the hot coolant to run all the way to the back of the box and then back up front. I’d hardly call it heated floors
But it does go to a heat exchanger to heat the water.. but only works while coolant is cycling which means the engine is running to produce heat
Great build. But wouldn’t a propane heater be cheaper and cleaner over the long run than a diesel one?
Space it key on an RV and a propane tank and propane heater take up a lot of room. The diesel engine only burns 0.7 Gal per hour at idle.
So running the engine is the only way that the “webesto” heater works?
I had the opportunity to buy an e450 ambulance (7.3 diesel, 5 deka batteries, air ride, 80k miles) for $7k and I didn't do it - been kicking myself ever since
I would like to see an armored truck converted to a camper
Hi can you make custom made ambulance for a person in a wheel chair. Also can you recommend a place in Chicago.
Look for a full sized wheel chair van with a lift already built in.
Where can I find out what system he was using to connect to internet? His website is no longer in existence
Shoot. I'm not sure what he was using exactly I'm sorry man
YetiAmbo sponsored by Domenic. Lol
Before you opened Sterling's bedroom door I swear I though to myself... Oh boy hope there isn't SHIT EVERYWHERE!!
WOW! I’ve been watching ambulance builds all weekend wondering how I could afford gas on my very tiny social security income.
Chip in with me i am looking for somebody to split cost. Could tow you in a trailer. I have an ambulance. Middle aged hospice RN NJ.
where do you get insurance? I just bought a ambulance and I am having trouble finding liability insurance.
Do you need a CDL to operate the Ex ambulance
No
Ford Highbread?
16.9x44. 743
16x44. 704
These are expensive as hell😂
What's the inside height?
Why you selling this? Noticed it on Craigslist
@liveworkwander spotted 1:12
How much did he pay for his ambulance before the build out?
Used ambulances can go for unbelievably low prices. He said you can pick one up for 3K for standard (I guess V6 diesel), and 10-15K for a 4x4. I heard of someone who got one for 500 bucks - not impossible, but an older one. You can get 2003-7ish for around 3K if you get lucky.
Do you have a siren
Like IN GHOSTBUSTERS
Does that guy have a RUclips or some social media?
instagram.com/TravisTravelsOrg
So you buy a Ford Escape Hybrid and cannibalize the 12 volt AC compressor for your AC? A bit expensive solution.
