Fun fact. The animation for this film was done by the same animation company that were involved heavily on Disney’s Gargoyles. Learned that from Phelous’ review on the film, & it’s true.
Frollo does kind of look like a mashup of both Gaston from Disney's Beauty And The Beast and Jafar from Disney's Aladdin His face and clothing resemble Gaston But his nose and chin resemble Jafar.
Good to see you back!!! I've been a fan ever since your review of Beauty and the Beast: the Enchanted Christmas. I ocasionally rewatch your old reviews. Trully you are an underrated reviewer.
oh man the "Father, miracles are your department" line is literally from The Simpsons!!! hahaha it's a Groundskeeper Willie line lmao (in "Homer The Heretic" season 4)
17:05 the “so stupid it’s genius” plan thing was used hilariously and effectively in the season 2 finale of the Ducktales reboot. I think in honor of that we should call this a ‘Glomgold scheme’, since Glomgold is notorious for elaborate schemes that don’t work and no one who’s smarter than the smarties or sharpies would use. Basically, I am offering a term you can use if this kind of plan ever happens again. Anyway, glad to have seen this video, can’t wait to the next one.
Yay! So glad these reviews are back! It's like you didn't miss a beat. Looking forward to more from Code Monkey. Thx for all the effort you put in. It shows!
Huzzah!! New Coded Lock Content!! We've only been waiting five-ever!XD I wish you luck on that sequel, bro. It still causes me rage. Also I MISS YOU AND RAE BUNCHES!!!💜💜💜
How am I three weeks late to seeing this? I am SO, SO glad you're back doing reviews and you've decided to finally finish your Hunchback Series. Thank you for you addressing the slur for the Romani people, I thought it was very sensitive. I doubt it, but part of me wonders if the writers/animators on this film hoped to ""keep the secret" because most people would assume they were animations mistakes while also making it foreshadowing. It's interesting that you note that Hunchback films tend to leave out Frollo's role as the head of the Church, because for as goofy/bad as Goodtimes Hunchback is, in terms of story line they stick fairly close to the story by keeping the characters true to their origins (namely Pheobus) and Quasimodo's deafness. So I'll be very interesting to see you tackle that one. But yes bring on Hunchback of Notre Dame 2!! It should be really good, in terms of review. Wonderful to have you back, Jesse :)
14:41 I love your commentary on the Gargoyles in this UAV Hunchback while I do have fond memories with the Disney ones these guys are just as if not more funnier
Thank you ver much for the Review, its good to see something new from you! And I had also very good Times with this Movie and I saw it a lot on TV than I was a Kid, because this is why it's very nostalgia!!!!
Damn good to see you again, buddy. I've really missed you Your sensitivity and intelligence, not to mention your humor, are greatly appreciated On a more shallow note: You're a damn good-looking dude, and if you weren't already married (or straight), I would marry you in a heartbeat
What pisses me off about this movie, aside from the obvious, is how they renamed the leading lady. Her name is ESMERALDA, NOT MELODY!! I mean, really!? Did the writers think that kids can't say "Esmeralda"? That is insulting to children's intelligence
Jesse, I love how respectful you are in your reviews about both the fire and the slur. You are a great critic and I enjoy watching your videos. You keep up the good work dude! 👍🏼
One of The reason's why I love Disney's HunchBack of Notredame is because even though Disney sidestepped the issue of Frollo being an ArchDeacon in The Cathedral from the original book instead choosing to make him Supreme Minister of Justice. He was still a religious authority as well as a secular government authority who thought he was a righetous man of GOD who was personally called to cull the sinful elements from humanity to save the world. I know that your part of the small minority who doesn't like Disney's HunchBack of Notredame. But making Frollo a religious authority as well as a government authority who had the power equal to The King of France with an army at his command was not only an intriguing twist on Disney's part but was in fact genius
I never said I didn't like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I do like it. That's the thing people often don't get. I can acknowledge that something is deeply flawed and still enjoy it.
@@CodedLockFilms It is flawed I have to agree with you mostly because of The Gargoyles specifically Victor and Hugo played by Jason Alexander and Charles Kimborough Jason Alexander never shuts up and he has that CREEPY INFATUATION with Esmerelda's goat Djhali. Also Charles Kimborough is to needlessly into poetry and giving longwinded philosophical speeches. On top of that their musical number is not only terrible but it severely contrasts with the mood of seeing all Paris burn to the ground. On top of that it ends up being pointless when Esmerelda falls in love with Phoebus
An animated adaptation must remove all the age-innapropiate elements and the sad ending; and adaptations for adults would surely be more conventional and action-oriented or horror-oriented. Only an indie film could be trully faithful to the novel, but the time period, make-up and sets would require millions of dollars, and with huge investments come huge fear of flopping. A stage adaptation might be great, and still cheaper than a blockbuster movie.
Lindsay Elise had a really great video essay about the book and it's history of adaptation. One thing she mentioned that I found really interesting is that the first adaptation of the book was made by Victor Hugo himself (it's called La Esmeralda) and he changed the ending and several other elements of the story to make it more marketable, even though the original intent of the book was to draw attention to the Cathedral itself. So adaptation is kind of a weird thing? Sometimes even the author doesn't want 100% accuracy.
You're correct about suicide being considered a mortal sin - it's basically considered as bad as murder, taking a human life even if that life happens to be long to you.
Maybe Quasimodo kept his idenity a secret the whole time to keep the other characters from taking the knowledge and his presence for granted, and not doing their part. "Oh no! This person's in trouble, but Quasimodo can fix everything! We'll just sit back and watch..."
To be fair the Disney Quasimodo hid his face for a good chunk of the cold opening, true we didn’t get to meet him until after Clopin’s story but still…
haven’t gotten to the end yet, but because of the healing i’m predicting that quasimodo is actually jesus for some shitty metaphorical reason. edit: this is why i’m agnostic.
I don't think it was suicide, nor did he know he as an angel. What he DID know was that, with his body weight, he couldn't hold on long enough for everyone else to help him, and that also connects to his supposed suicide, which was actually him simply losing his grip, due to said body weight
Avatar is still pretty recent. I wouldn't say something holds up or doesn't until it's no longer contemporary. Basically, a certain amount of time has to pass for whether something holds up to be in question, and I don't think enough time has yet passed in Avatar's case.
@@CodedLockFilms Your review was way more interesting than Phelous's because your opinion about The Secret of The HunchBack of Notredame totally caught me off guard when you said it's worth watching Phelous's review on the other hand is more funny because he absolutely savages The Secret of The HunchBack of Notredame. His reviews are definitely entertaining. I've been watching you and Phelous for years along with a few other famous You Tube Critics like The Nostalgia Critic and Cinema Snob. Btw i've seen Secret of The HunchBack and in my opinion it's pretty bad. Is it as bad as other Ripoffs of Disney's HunchBack of Notredam? In my opinion no! I would have to rank Secret of The HunchBack of Notredame on the same level as The HunchBack of Notredame II which in my opinion is onf THE ABSOLUTE WORST Disney DTV Cheapquels. The only Disney DTV Cheaquels that are WORSE are Tarzan II and The Fox and The Hound II
2020 is a miserable shithole, but the return of these hella underrated reviews? A little ray of light in a dark time.

I almost cried when I heard the codedlockfilm intro after so many years
"Their plan failed so hard, it succeeded." Archduke Franz Ferdinand's assassination in a nutshell. Seriously, look it up. It was a shitshow.
I actually wrote about that event. I agree, it was so discombobulated, it was a wonder it even succeeded at all.

Yay you're back! Also why can no one get Victor Hugo's story 100% correct aside from the Broadway musical

Little Caesar's tastes okay enough, not super delectable but okay.

"Oh no! This person's in trouble, but Quasimodo can fix everything! We'll just sit back and watch..."
But again, why does he keep up the act when he's alone, then? What would be the point in doing so? That's the question I have no answer for.

I dunno. Tangled did it, and I thought it was pretty funny.
But that's probably because Eugene was basically mocking this trope.
