It doesn’t whine anymore & I had mine when air 10 first came out with no problems. It does have the service message & I noticed it on a couple years ago but it still works fine. It’s just a big scam that is unnecessary. After putting in the new blower motor does the service message ever go off?
Mine whined after I stopped using the humidifier but I went into settings & turned it off. Dosen’t whine anymore. I don’t know if this is your problem.
This info 100% is accurate for the Resmed AirSense 10 Vauto Bipap. All screws and every bit identical with the exception of the color of the front bezel. Replaced the Pump (motor) in mine cleaned it and solved the whine and pressure issues. Ordered a replacement from Amazon it was $127 and took about 45 minutes to do the first time. You need a torks #10 bit for the screws and a pair of tweezers or needle nose plyers to pull the blue silicon back through the holes comfortably. The only hitch was that when reassembled and plugged in it took about an hour for my unit to get its updated settings. The instructions are spot on. Thank you. :-)

Hi Graeme, that's great mate! Welcome to the channel :-) There's not a whole lot in the machines to be honest. Just a little turbine, circuit board and these days a cellular / wifi module so they can collect all your sleep data. Have a great day
Hi Jasleens, you're most welcome! If you're struggling with bad smells then i can highly recommend this amzn.to/3oMAWNQ . It's a little adaptor which enables you to use essential oils with your cpap therapy so you can basically make it smell like anything you like! I use it with eucalyptus oil when i have a bad sinus or cold. It's very affordable and works very well. Thank you
@@CPAPReviews is it okay to use essential oils? They tell us not to wash it with scented stuff, how won't it mess up the equipment?.....oh now I see it goes at the end of the hose before your mask! Thank you
@@jasleensjourney Check out the link. The adaptor has a little filter that you can use with the oils so it doesn't affect your equipment at all. Cheers
@@CPAPReviews No. A bad smell means your device is infected with mold or worse. It needs an ozone sterilization and in the hoses too, or replace them. To use vapor type odors just place them next to the intake filter.
Thanks a lot for this video. You are going to save me a lot of money. A power surge damaged my main board and now I know how easy it is to fix it. I got a quote for a gently used unit of $875.
Sorry for commenting on an old video, but I'm a little afraid to disassemble my equipment, but it has been emitting a sound when inhaling for quite some time now, I have a suspicion that it is the motor. Should I replace the motor? considering that I have checked that the water tank is tightened properly... Many thanks!
The video was quite effective for training the disassembly, but several things were (for me) trial and error during assembly. I cannibalized a new but worthless Aircurve 10 and put in it an ASV whose motor wore out through 10 years of use.
First night using my first CPAP machine, the very one that you demonstrated. Mate what a blast (pun), best sleep I had in years! It took a bit of getting the mask comfortably set up then after that so easy. As you suggested on another video I started using the machine a few hours before needing to sleep just to get the hang of it and by the time I was ready it was a seamless transition. Over 10 hours I got an average of 2.8 events per hour compared to 48 without. Happy as Larry with only regret being that I paid full price for everything but what the hell if my body and mind is freshly revitalised daily.
Hey legend, thanks for sharing your experience! Great to hear you using a few tips from the channel too. Mate i fully recommend people pay full price for the gear. 1. You will most likely get full service. 2. You are fully supporting people / companies who make very little money and provide excellent support. 3. If you break the cost down night by night it works out to be less than 50c a night. Good for you brother!
Thanks Nick. I found it very interesting. I always come away with something new I have learned. You did make it look simple. I’m afraid it’s a job I would never tackle!!!
Haha, thank you. Yes certainly not for everyone but i imagine many people probably just throw them away when they 'die' and sometimes it's a very very simple fix. Cheers
Thanks, your video was very helpful. I had taken my mother’s apart without taking the usual pictures and was stumped as to where one bit went back (the polyethylene support under the air pump). Stopping your video at the right spot I could see how it went back. PS. Hopefully helpful to others, the machine was making a similar whining noise. I thought it might be bearings (not repairable) but when I got the pump out I found a small dead insect in the input end and the output end very dirty. I am assuming the machine must have been run at some point with no filter or a badly installed one. After getting the bug out and cleaning the best I could it is completely silent as original. Thanks again.
Hello just found your video. My CPAP is making the same noise. I was wondering about replacing it. I really do need to have a CPAP and the noise it makes is so loud my wife and I can't get to sleep. We have a toddler now and to be honest we aren't sleeping much these days anyway but when I take naps, its nice to have my cpap for restorative sleep. Thanks again for this video! I found it a great resource!
. Hi thanks for your video. Very useful. We had a rattle in our machine so we took it down until we identified a little oblong shaped part that says PA26B on it which can be seen in your video at 5.06. It sits on the inside of the left side part that includes the filter. It looks like it’s soldered on, have you any advice on how we can put it back? The machine still runs so I’m not sure why that is, so my next question is, do you know why the machine would still be running with this part loose? And what is this part for? Thank you very much in advance.
Hey Nick, Great Video/teardown. If i could give u 1 bit of constructive feedback it would be this. Wear an Anti-static wrist strap when you are working on these machines. You wouldn't want to fry one of those chips with static electricity when you are repairing it ;)
Great video thx for posting have you looked for after market spare motors etc. It will be a $10 part max, probably just a bearing. My machine is whistling under load I will let you know what I find and hopefully fix - Cheers
Just a heads up. It seems that when I take the foam out beside the motor. It creates a lack of back pressure on that motor and just blasts full pressure. I put it back in and it seems to regulate fine.
G'day Andrew, have you tried switching 'smart start' off. It's a setting in the clinical menu (it might perhaps be in the patient menu also). Smart Start is also 'auto off' and sometimes these 'auto off / auto on' features can cause problems. Try switching it off . Cheers
I got my air 10 when they first came out & I haven’t had problems. Just the message to service it came up but still no problems. The rest of my family all got Air 10’s some time after me & has problems. My Sis is on her second one because her service message came on way before mine & I had mine longer. She uses the humidifier but I turned mine off. We all use the same medical supplier & they’re a big scam. They don’t replace the blower motor & gets us into new machines because are insurances will pay for it. Will the service message go off once you replace the blower motor?
thank you so much for sharing! It's easy to do a video, but really put heart into it is really hard. After watching yours, i don't need to test those devices by myself. I owe you one,my pal. Hope someday I can make up for it :)))
What’s that little blue piece that was left out? I took mine apart and reassembled and noticed it after as well… Edit found what it was. Saw I missed it on reassembly. It goes on back of left side of circuit board and connects to blower motor assembly.
Would there be any reason to clean out the inside air connectors? I've had a cough for a couple of months and wondering if there's any chance that those connection for air could be germ filled or something. Don't want to take it apart if nobody's ever heard of the machine actually doing that. Or if you have any other advice
Hi there, not a whole lot at the moment. People use to use ozone but i'm holding off on advising that now until the FDA approves a cleaner. For the time being just use a little electronics brush or a gentle air compressor to clean off the dust etc. Good luck nick
Be advised RESMED now voids warrantee if ozone sanitizer is connected through machine. This is because internal foam filter deteriorates as exposed to strong ozone , pieces get into impeller causing noise. Hose and mask can be ozone sanitized with adapter sold through ozone machine manufactures safely . Not voiding warrantee. Alcohol seems to to be safe for cleaning internals be sure to throughly dry before connecting power.
Hi Korey, awesome mate. I thought there might be 1 person in the world who might be interested! Yeah i was also thinking of doing the dreamstation and comparing the components with the dreamstation 2. Might be interesting to see what's actually changed ;-)
@@CPAPReviews I use the Dreamstation, and have watched reviews for the Dreamstation 2. I think the Dreamstation 2 will be more of a pain to use than what I've got. I have no desire to get the new version. Hope mine lasts a long time!
Mine has a really similar problem so probably also the motor. Mine is almost 6 years old and have had no issues with it until now. Oh well, I have another on order but it's several weeks out
I disassembled the unit to inspect the foam gasket and it was completely gone with bits and pieces of the foam in the housing as well as around the impellers. Prior to me checking I was getting a "System fault, refer to user guide, Error 003". I seen on line that this is a pressure fault. My thought was that the motor was not performing so a replaced the motor and foam filter and reassembled. Unfortunately I am still getting a Error 003. Any Ideas as to next steps or should I just move on and purchase another unit?
This looks like it's exactly what I needed. I purchased a used machine. All new hoses and humidifier case, but the machine itself has a slight smell that gives me a headache. Everyone can smell it i 'm not super sensitive. I suspect moisture git in it and there is a bit of mold in the motor air housing. Does this sound common or possible to anyone here?
Back a few years ago my now deceased grandma got one of these, except it was leased, not owned by her. That meant that whenever a fault would have occurred someone qualified would have taken care of everything, therefore eliminating the "need" for a DIY repair. Leasing medical equipment like a CPAP, insulin pump or even a simple pair of crutches is actually quite common here in France, in fact it may be the only way to get proper reimbursement by our universal healthcare service. Wonder how it works in Australia though.
G'day, the foam is for sound abatement (noise reduction). I believe they should make better cpap filter technology as the current filters are very poor. Cheers
My power button on my Resmed 10 just stopped working. I hope I can find a tutorial on how to fix it. Thanks for your tutorial on how to take them apart!
Greetings, I just found your channel looking for a tear down guide for the ResMed AirSense10 and this came up with just what I needed so thanks for that. I purchased a 2nd unit that did not have the cellular card in it and purchased a cellular 4G card and installed the unit. Now I need to figure out how to activate the card and get it to start transmitting. Is that a internal setting that needs to be turned on that will activate the cellular modem? And if so where can I find that setting from the front panel controls. I had hoped that enabling the technician menu I would find that setting there. But sadly I did not see a selection to turn on or turn off the cellular PC card to activate that feature. So if you if there is a internal or software switch that need to be activated and the location it would really help my quest. Thanks
The machine you worked with was whining in the beginning and then stopped, but i don't know specifically what you did to stop it. Mine whines; seems like motor, but i still don't understand how to fix it. Happy to open it up, but then wjat? Thanks
And thank you for your videos. It helped me repair my own machine without having to spend $400 or more for repairs and $900 for another machine. This seems to be like a scam sometimes as well
I've been using my AirSense 10 for a year now, but just within the last 3 nights I've woken up in the middle of the night with extremely dry mouth. I haven't changed any settings or replaced parts during that period of time. I use a full face mask. Even on max manual humidity and max climateline temperature, I'm getting absolutely zero vapor out of my unit. With previous CPAP models, I could hold my hand to the mask and feel the water droplets coming out, but the air coming out of my A10 is completely dry. Even more confusing is that the humidifier plate is still hot to touch. The water level in the chamber goes down as well. I don't see any leaks on my nightstand and my mask seal fits snug. When I take out the chamber and poke my fingers inside the unit, it's bone dry. Doesn't seem like any water is making it to the tubing at all. I've looked up tons of forum posts and looked through manuals and found no solutions. I don't even know where the humidity is escaping to. I've already tried replacing the chamber and tubing to weed out any parts defects. And common solutions like getting a chinstrap/fullface mask and tweaking humidity/hose settings don't seem to apply in my situation since I'm not getting ANY humidity to the mask at all. I'm lost on how to troubleshoot the problem further... Any idea what could be causing this?
DUDE! This is doing my head in! Okay, so if the water is going down and the heater plate is hot to the touch then then the humidifier DEFINITELY WORKS! It could potentially be due to a change in seasons ( Is it getting colder where you live?) Or potentially due to mouth leak / mouth breathing during the night. I don't think it has anything to do with the machine / humidifier / tubing... I think it 's has to be something to do with either yourself or the atmosphere. I've been doing this so long i rarely have to think but this one got me good! Especially after a couple of scotch and cokes haha.
@@CPAPReviews It's been getting hotter, actually. I think I do naturally mouth-breathe when sleeping, but setting the humidifier a few notches away from the highest setting has always compensated for that. I don't know why it stopped keeping up. But I can now rule out the machine/humidifier as the source of the problem. I replaced the tubing, mask and the entire setup after a night of desperation. I went back to my old Resmed S9 and had the same issue, waking up in the middle of the night with a dry mouth. That confirmed that the issue never had anything to do with the A10 in the first place. So you're probably right. Must be something like a shift in the atmosphere, seasons, etc. I might have just been running out of water overnight, and that's why it seemed like it wasn't working.
When I look at my display first thing in the morning to see my sleep report, the screen is dark and hard to read, but after a while the screen brightens and is easy to read, then when just left, it goes darker again? any thoughts please? As in is there an adjustment i can do or is there a fault in the machine?
Do you know where the "swivel assembly " is located? A CPAP technician has recommended it be replaced on my Resmed 10. The problem was that my CPAP wasn't providing the usual suction.
Your video was great! It helped me diagnose my Resmed Airsense 10 issue: the flex cable inside the machine that runs power to the air tube snapped. I’m trying to find this part, but it is very difficult. Do you know where I should look? Or is sourcing this part impossible?

Thanks Nick. Seems to be a common issue. Mines about same age and recently started making a loud whining noise which makes it impossible to sleep. Unfortunately I’m overseas and had to buy a new auto set 10 from Australia as can’t get it looked at or repaired locally. Wondering how much the motor would cost to replace?
Hi Mate, i think ResMed charge around $500 to replace the turbine. I wouldn't be buying any ResMed stuff from Australia as it's double the price compared to the U.S. You can pick up complete refurbished S10 machines and used ones for around $400 usd. Cheers Nick
Nice video! Will have it front of me when I try to disassemble my ResMed AirSense 10. I've had this machine for about 5 1/2 years now, and it has developed a kind of stale, musty odor. The oder starts about 10 seconds after I turn on the AirSense 10 at night, and slowly dissipates somewhat. My guess is that the fan blades and assembly have become coated with some kind of contaminant, but I can't properly see the fan without disassembling the unit. Maybe it's even the foam disc that can get damaged by the ionizing process, as you mentioned. Does it sound likely to you that cleaning the fan area will fix my problem? If so, what would you use to clean it? Also, is there any way to clean it without disassembling it? Thanks for any info.
I just got my 3rd AirSense10 machine, this week. However, I see they are now making them in Singapore, not Australia. I wonder if the quality is as good. At least, they're not making them in China.
My Airsense 10 recently stopped heating the water for the humidifier. I haven't checked the fuse but if it is the fuse, where can I get replacement? UPDATE: Used a meter and tested the fuse, it was fine. I have noticed if I put the humidifier setting to 5 or 6 it heats just fine, but anything lower than that and the heating tray doesn't even feel warm, which is odd. Either way, if I ever need a replacement fuse where would I get one? They're not on Amazon and seem to be hard to find anywhere.

Thanks, Nick. My husband's AS10 was getting noisy. Between your video and one other where someone cleaned an ugly parts machine, I managed to take apart, clean and put back together his machine. It is much quieter now. This video was the best explained one though and so easy to follow. I have years of experience restoring vintage sewing machines and they need a lot of cleaning too. Certainly less technical than a CPAP. One note: In my tech screwdriver kit, the T10 was the screwdriver for the AS 10 screws, not a T3 as mentioned in your video. Not sure is those numbers vary by country?

Hi Graeme, that's great mate! Welcome to the channel :-) There's not a whole lot in the machines to be honest. Just a little turbine, circuit board and these days a cellular / wifi module so they can collect all your sleep data. Have a great day
@@CPAPReviews Do you know how to get rid of/disable or remove the SIM card so it stops transmitting/sending data anywhere?
Thank you so much! This was beautifully thorough. I needed to clean inside cause of the mildew smell, this was perfect.
That fuse at 2:30. My understanding is that is a thermal fuse. What would the specs be for a replacement fuse? My Resmed 10 no longer heats up.
Had mine about 5 years. Making a fan noise. Great video. Fun. Probably got me for a grand.
It's very useful to know how to disassemble the machine, for cleaning or repair. Thanks very much.
I agree mate. Cheers
Thanks a lot for this video. You are going to save me a lot of money. A power surge damaged my main board and now I know how easy it is to fix it. I got a quote for a gently used unit of $875.
did you replaced a new main board? if so where did you bought a new main board?
Sorry for commenting on an old video, but I'm a little afraid to disassemble my equipment, but it has been emitting a sound when inhaling for quite some time now, I have a suspicion that it is the motor. Should I replace the motor? considering that I have checked that the water tank is tightened properly... Many thanks!
The video was quite effective for training the disassembly, but several things were (for me) trial and error during assembly. I cannibalized a new but worthless Aircurve 10 and put in it an ASV whose motor wore out through 10 years of use.
Thanks. With your help I changed the control board to fix a bad screen.
Not boring in the least! Very instructive in fact.
Oh appreciate that :-)
First night using my first CPAP machine, the very one that you demonstrated.
Cheers
Thank you. I purchased from your ad. Hope it resolves open mouth breathing at night.
Hi there, what ad was that? I'm interested :-)
Thanks a lot for this video! I was able to troubleshoot my CPAT after watching your video. Really appreciate it!!!
Great video. If I ever need to take mine apart, it looks easy to do. I have fixed stuff all my days.
You’ll be a pro in no time!
Thank you for this very useful video, it's really important for a user to understand CPAP machine's components just in case if we need.
Hi there, really appreciate the comment. Thank you!
Are you sure about that T3 driver size for the fasteners? Not sure if we use different Torx measurements here in the US, but mine were T10.
Thank you very much in advance.
great work i have one airsense 20 and yje start button is stuck, is it posssible to repair it?
Hey Nick,
Great Video/teardown.
Did you find extra motor
Just a heads up. It seems that when I take the foam out beside the motor. It creates a lack of back pressure on that motor and just blasts full pressure. I put it back in and it seems to regulate fine.
Ty for the video. Mine keeps turning off. Any solutions you could share?
I took mine apart and reassembled and noticed it after as well…
Edit found what it was.
Mine had a whine noise and it was a bad blower motor. Had to replace it. These Res Med 10 models are prone to having motor noise and failure.
Thanks Nick what product can you use to clean the inside parts when taking it apart?
Hi there, not a whole lot at the moment. People use to use ozone but i'm holding off on advising that now until the FDA approves a cleaner. For the time being just use a little electronics brush or a gentle air compressor to clean off the dust etc. Good luck nick
Thanks Nick will give it a go
Be advised RESMED now voids warrantee if ozone sanitizer is connected through machine.
Loved this! Would enjoy more of these! Dreamstation next?
Hi Korey, awesome mate. I thought there might be 1 person in the world who might be interested! Yeah i was also thinking of doing the dreamstation and comparing the components with the dreamstation 2. Might be interesting to see what's actually changed ;-)
@@CPAPReviews I use the Dreamstation, and have watched reviews for the Dreamstation 2. I think the Dreamstation 2 will be more of a pain to use than what I've got. I have no desire to get the new version. Hope mine lasts a long time!
So did I. Fascinating to learn how this machine that lives in my home actually works. Thanks, Nick!
Mine has a really similar problem so probably also the motor. Mine is almost 6 years old and have had no issues with it until now. Oh well, I have another on order but it's several weeks out
Very interesting. Saw where I could get the pump and casing off of Amazon for cheap. Great video. Very helpful. Thank You.
I have taken it apart and on accident broke the wire /tape/conduit. @ 4:34 How does one replace that, if at all. Thanks.
What would be the cause of the heated hose not working?? Thanks.
How do you reset the motor life message? Or does the new motor reset it upon installation?
Back a few years ago my now deceased grandma got one of these, except it was leased, not owned by her.
That meant that whenever a fault would have occurred someone qualified would have taken care of everything, therefore eliminating the "need" for a DIY repair.
Leasing medical equipment like a CPAP, insulin pump or even a simple pair of crutches is actually quite common here in France, in fact it may be the only way to get proper reimbursement by our universal healthcare service.
Wonder how it works in Australia though.
What does the foam insulator's purpose in the pump? Is it there to provide another layer of filtering to prevent particles from getting into the pump?
G'day, the foam is for sound abatement (noise reduction). I believe they should make better cpap filter technology as the current filters are very poor. Cheers
Awesome thanks for the response!
My power button on my Resmed 10 just stopped working. I hope I can find a tutorial on how to fix it. Thanks for your tutorial on how to take them apart!
Will changing the motor stop the nag screen or do I have to go into a hidden menu somewhere to reset it?..Thanks in advance.
hello thank you for your video! Where can I get a replacement part for the insulation foam?
This seems to be like a scam sometimes as well
Just like the S9 motor 'motor life exceeded' scam.
Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, where could I get spairs from, aftermarket spairs?
Do you know where the "swivel assembly " is located? A CPAP technician has recommended it be replaced on my Resmed 10. The problem was that my CPAP wasn't providing the usual suction.
MY CPAP MACHINE IS LEAKING WATER ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CPAP MACHINE. WHAT PART WOULD I NEED TO DO TO FIX IT OR WHAT PART WOULD i NEED TO GET ?
It's likely the humidifier tub - ruclips.net/video/SSmTv1EY0g0/видео.html
Your video was great! It helped me diagnose my Resmed Airsense 10 issue: the flex cable inside the machine that runs power to the air tube snapped. I’m trying to find this part, but it is very difficult. Do you know where I should look? Or is sourcing this part impossible?
Not pulled mine apart yet but I suspect this cable did you find the part ?
wow thanks nick was awesome to watch, can not believe they are worth $1000-$2500 for these units..... mine the power supply stopped working and went back to my s9... Then I got a after market power supply just delivered today.... as I plug the new power cord in the s10 top button green light flashes and when the cord is pushed in completely it still has no power to the s10 but the green light is on the power cord box?
had to turn the cord a few times and made a connection finally as I was inspecting the small wire in the middle of the plug
@@CPAPReviews no didnt drop it just stopped working in the middle of the night and no green light on the power supply, got a power supply off ebay but after market $45 and a bit of a dodgy plug into the machine.... after plugging it in a few times and inspecting the middle pin wire it powered up so I wont touch it while its working :)

I have 2 resmed 10s. One has developed an issue. The unit will not power on. The round power button flashes randomly and very briefly. Wiggling the plug or power cord changes nothing.
Both power supplies are working properly and will power the working unit.
I don't know if there is a plug issue or perhaps a fuse is failing.

Hey Mate.. I punched the top button of my AirCurve 10 ASV and now it won't turn on. Your video didn't quit go into the mechanics of that top button. Can you guide me?
Can we do without the old foam disc in any old Airsense 10? There is a potential danger to leave it in?
Excellent video I learned quite a lot. Question though... Can I find online a place to replace those motors as my Philips rest products BiPAP pro has failed. It is no longer blowing air and the machine is 9 years old, lol. Thank you

Cheers Nick
Thanks for this video mate. Didn't your friend have the 5 year (extended) warranty that resmed gives?
No he imported it so he could probably buy a couple more and still break even haha.

Where is the sim card located in this machine for the mobile radio that sends data? Is it removable?
I love how all of these CPAP‘s use full size SD cards. Despite the fact that virtually nothing else does anymore.
I’m having the exact same problem - have you found a solution yet?
Anyone know where I can get that grey foam disc (that’s at the end of the motor)?
Not boring at all. Great video. My only recommendation: should have changed the motor whatsoever it was out.
I just got my 3rd AirSense10 machine, this week. However, I see they are now making them in Singapore, not Australia. I wonder if the quality is as good. At least, they're not making them in China.
Great video. I was able to install a new motor. Thanks a lot.
Where can you purchase the motor from in australia ?
Hi , i have a airsense 10 made in Singapore different 4G modern and nobody can read the SD card as different programs. Can i change an other old Aussie 3G modern plus Sd card slot and make it all compatible with Aussie so sd can work and read and reports go to Resmed
I did th same - but mine stayed quiet for only abour three minutes, then the dreaded 'whine' came right back. So it;s either ear-plugs for me, or shell out for a new motor!
