Here's another great video that shows more detail - • Disassembly and modem ...
Hi everyone, a good friend asked me to take a look at his AirSense 10 as it was starting to make a strange noise. I'm not an electrical engineer but i have fixed a few machines in my time and a lot of the time it can be quite a simple little fix that doesn't even require any replacement parts.
I could tell as soon as i turned it on that it was probably a motor fault which would require a replacement motor but i just thought i would show you the different components and how the machine fits together. Many manufacturers charge through the nose for different components and the labour is normally charged out at well over $150/ hour to work on them. Some manufacturers also have fixed price servicing. I believe Philips charges a flat $450 fee to fix anything on a device.
As a society we tend to just throw things away when they stop working instead of trying to fix them up :-). There's a great feeling of achievement when you fix something that's no longer working and i highly recommend you have a go next time something breaks.
Hope you're all doing well. Take care
    Nick

My Air 10 started whining when I stopped putting distilled water in it. I went into settings & turned off humidifier. It doesn’t whine anymore & I had mine when air 10 first came out with no problems. It does have the service message & I noticed it on a couple years ago but it still works fine. My Sis has a Aircurve 10 & now on her second one. She got hers years after I got the air 10 & her service message came up before mine. My Dad & Brother got Air 10’s. I can’t remember if it was before or after my Sis got hers but their machines makes noise & it’s the blower motor. The medical place we all go to doesn’t replace the motors & wants to get us in new machines because our insurances are paying for it. If mine starts making noice I’ll replace the motor. It’s just a big scam that is unnecessary.
After putting in the new blower motor does the service message ever go off?

This info 100% is accurate for the Resmed AirSense 10 Vauto Bipap. All screws and every bit identical with the exception of the color of the front bezel. Replaced the Pump (motor) in mine cleaned it and solved the whine and pressure issues. Ordered a replacement from Amazon it was $127 and took about 45 minutes to do the first time. You need a torks #10 bit for the screws and a pair of tweezers or needle nose plyers to pull the blue silicon back through the holes comfortably. The only hitch was that when reassembled and plugged in it took about an hour for my unit to get its updated settings. The instructions are spot on. Thank you. :-)

Dis-Assembled Cpap 10 without this video or any instructions.
Oiled fan motor by drilling access holes.
Reassembled with only 4screws left over?
Powered up and working without the high pitched whine.
Ran for hour to rid WD40 smell.
My analysis is that the noisy operation it had was because water got into motor from careless handling.
Lesson is that avoiding water into machine best preventative of noise.
Not sure of how to stop noise after watering?
    Careful avoiding best.
    Very good tear down video!
    Thanks!

First night using my first CPAP machine, the very one that you demonstrated. Mate what a blast (pun), best sleep I had in years! It took a bit of getting the mask comfortably set up then after that so easy. As you suggested on another video I started using the machine a few hours before needing to sleep just to get the hang of it and by the time I was ready it was a seamless transition. Over 10 hours I got an average of 2.8 events per hour compared to 48 without. Happy as Larry with only regret being that I paid full price for everything but what the hell if my body and mind is freshly revitalised daily.

PS. Hopefully helpful to others, the machine was making a similar whining noise. I thought it might be bearings (not repairable) but when I got the pump out I found a small dead insect in the input end and the output end very dirty. I am assuming the machine must have been run at some point with no filter or a badly installed one. After getting the bug out and cleaning the best I could it is completely silent as original. Thanks again.

Back a few years ago my now deceased grandma got one of these, except it was leased, not owned by her.
That meant that whenever a fault would have occurred someone qualified would have taken care of everything, therefore eliminating the "need" for a DIY repair.
Leasing medical equipment like a CPAP, insulin pump or even a simple pair of crutches is actually quite common here in France, in fact it may be the only way to get proper reimbursement by our universal healthcare service.
Wonder how it works in Australia though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I did not see any "foam-gate" in this Resmed on dismantle, just a small ring of foam to stop vibration and insulation but no air flowing through or over any foam. The secret with Resmed seems to be, a thicker motor surround casing, with an air intake pipe going directly into the motor (no chamber plastic channels) combined with a decent silicon secondary casing within the first casing wrapped around the motor. Brilliant! Looking at this Resmed, it seems better, more intelligently built than the Philips System One or Dreamstation. When I get a few pennies together I might get me one. In saying that, in using my back-up System One Philips again instead of my Dreamstation, I can definitely say that the Dreamstation is a significantly better unit than the System One and besides the foam/ recall issue, the Dreamstation works very well and I like using it.
    Thanks Nick

The ResMed AirSence 10 is 1000% easier to disassemble than the S9. I live in Florida USA and had tiny "crazy ants" build a nest inside the ventilator housing. Due to the current transportation problem I was forced to repair/clean the unit. So with great trepidation opened the S9, that took 3 1/2 hours to slowly open without breaking any plastic clips. The S10 seems much better designed and will be my next machine.

Does ResMed sell pumps? I looked everywhere on the web for an "AirSense 10 pump" and they're not even for sale on Ebay LOL! Sad they are so easy to replace, yet no one sells them. I believe there's a niche market here, even for use parts! Hmmmmmmm

I Agree with you! I recon you could by old/used machines and break them up and sell the parts individually and make a decent profit on the components. • @Jigglypoof

I've been using my AirSense 10 for a year now, but just within the last 3 nights I've woken up in the middle of the night with extremely dry mouth. I haven't changed any settings or replaced parts during that period of time.
I use a full face mask. Even on max manual humidity and max climateline temperature, I'm getting absolutely zero vapor out of my unit. With previous CPAP models, I could hold my hand to the mask and feel the water droplets coming out, but the air coming out of my A10 is completely dry.
Even more confusing is that the humidifier plate is still hot to touch. The water level in the chamber goes down as well. I don't see any leaks on my nightstand and my mask seal fits snug. When I take out the chamber and poke my fingers inside the unit, it's bone dry. Doesn't seem like any water is making it to the tubing at all.
I've looked up tons of forum posts and looked through manuals and found no solutions. I don't even know where the humidity is escaping to. I've already tried replacing the chamber and tubing to weed out any parts defects. And common solutions like getting a chinstrap/fullface mask and tweaking humidity/hose settings don't seem to apply in my situation since I'm not getting ANY humidity to the mask at all.
I'm lost on how to troubleshoot the problem further... Any idea what could be causing this?

    • @CPAPReviews
      @CPAPReviews  3 года назад +3

DUDE! This is doing my head in! Okay, so if the water is going down and the heater plate is hot to the touch then then the humidifier DEFINITELY WORKS! It could potentially be due to a change in seasons ( Is it getting colder where you live?) Or potentially due to mouth leak / mouth breathing during the night. I don't think it has anything to do with the machine / humidifier / tubing... I think it 's has to be something to do with either yourself or the atmosphere. I've been doing this so long i rarely have to think but this one got me good! Especially after a couple of scotch and cokes haha.

    • @Jigglypoof
      @Jigglypoof 3 года назад

@@CPAPReviews It's been getting hotter, actually. I think I do naturally mouth-breathe when sleeping, but setting the humidifier a few notches away from the highest setting has always compensated for that. I don't know why it stopped keeping up. But I can now rule out the machine/humidifier as the source of the problem.
I replaced the tubing, mask and the entire setup after a night of desperation. I went back to my old Resmed S9 and had the same issue, waking up in the middle of the night with a dry mouth. That confirmed that the issue never had anything to do with the A10 in the first place.
So you're probably right. Must be something like a shift in the atmosphere, seasons, etc. I might have just been running out of water overnight, and that's why it seemed like it wasn't working.

Nice video! Will have it front of me when I try to disassemble my ResMed AirSense 10. I've had this machine for about 5 1/2 years now, and it has developed a kind of stale, musty odor. The oder starts about 10 seconds after I turn on the AirSense 10 at night, and slowly dissipates somewhat. My guess is that the fan blades and assembly have become coated with some kind of contaminant, but I can't properly see the fan without disassembling the unit. Maybe it's even the foam disc that can get damaged by the ionizing process, as you mentioned.
Does it sound likely to you that cleaning the fan area will fix my problem? If so, what would you use to clean it? Also, is there any way to clean it without disassembling it? Thanks for any info.

She uses the humidifier but I turned mine off. We all use the same medical supplier & they’re a big scam. Hey Stuart, welcome to the channel. Great to hear you enjoyed the vid. You're spot on! I do have a little air compressor that i use on the motors to try and flush out the dust and debris etc. I do small short bursts of controlled air pressure and it does work about 50% of the time. This one was just stuffed though. It's a shame they glue the components together which makes taking apart the motor impossible. They probably do this on purpose. I haven't tried the lubricant though so i will certainly have a play around with that next time. All the best mate. Nick

I purchased a 2nd unit that did not have the cellular card in it and purchased a cellular 4G card and installed the unit. And if so where can I find that setting from the front panel controls. I had hoped that enabling the technician menu I would find that setting there. But sadly I did not see a selection to turn on or turn off the cellular PC card to activate that feature. So if you if there is a internal or software switch that need to be activated and the location it would really help my quest. Thanks
