I loved him in Disney’s The Little Mermaid as King Triton, Les Miserables as Javert, and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera as The Phantom.And now this. He is so amazing. I played Amaryllis in this show when I was 10, I think, and it was my first role in a real show. This made me so nostalgic and I wish I was back in the show. I was best friends with the little girl who played Gracie Shinn and we’re still unbelievably close to this day. God, I love this show so much.
Norm Lewis just exudes a warmth and humanity in everything he does. Harold Hill is usually sung by men like Preston, who use sprechsing. How wonderful to hear his gorgeous voice in harmony with Jessie Mueller. This looks wonderful.
Till there was you has always been a duet? I only know the movie verson with Shirley Jones and the Broadway revival with Rebecca Luker and it’s just sung by Marian in those version. Maybe in the original with Barbara Cook it was a duet? Does somebody know?
Landon Clark looking back in this time period nobody would have been singing their every word either but we choose to believe that. Norm Lewis is wicked talented. Be happy for him & enjoy the show.
It's theatre, you can have a suspension of disbelief. Also given that the show doesn't explicitly explore race relations I think you've got significant creative license with casting. Norm Lewis has all the qualities to make a splendid Harold Hill; he's affable, clever and a stupendous performer.
