I sat with my wife watching this video and she was impressed at how good your Thai language skills are. Have just began my journey in learning it myself. Good luck and thank you for the content.
The Isaan Farang Yo!!! This is a great message and I checked out your channel, some of your videos are great, I like the relaxed feelings and the daily life that you seem to focus on. That is really cool, especially because it’s in the Northeast :-) maybe I am biased but I really love Isaan and their culture, as you do. Udon Thani Is a food capital as well, I hope you are enjoying the time there so far. Thanks again for the great Comment, all the best man!!
Wow Joel, it's cool how you can speak fluent thai, and I loved how you speak in Burmese. I am kayin/Burmese, my parents are kayin/Burmese. And I was born in Thailand so i can understand and speak both Burmese and thai fluently. I enjoy watching your videos :)
Hi Genes!! I started to learn Burmese on my own as I was trying to get a job in Yangon. I love the writing, I think Burmese is the most beautiful script... So cool you writing me, thanks so much, I love to know that such a cool mix of people are finding these interesting (and ok, you being Kayin, Burmese, I would love to hang out and EAT with you for sure!!)
Indeed a great way to start my day here in the States! Joel, this is what I'm talking about in your videos! The beauty of the people, the love of the language, the meeting of new people! You got it all in one video! OUTSTANDING! So excited to see the next one! Until our paths cross, remain safe and well, and may the good Lord continue to bless you!
Wow, Murl, wow.... thank you. Showing me some real love man thank you, huge motivation, God bless man, thank you for always taking the time to send me such good words.

Cho Khou Cho Khou!!, I see another great comment, thanks a lot for taking the time to write and for watching. All the best, big high five to you in Canada today!!
Howzit Joel, just received a recommendation for your video and I am enjoying it immensely. My lady and I are unabashed Mark Wiens fans and we really enjoy your happy demeanor in his videos. We have been fortunate to be able to travel and Thailand is by far our favorite destination, the people, the food and the culture, it really feeds our souls. Chiang mai and northern Thailand has a special place in our hearts and Bangkok keeps luring us back for longer stays, so much to do and see. I've just hit the subscribe button, looking forward to see more awesome content. Best of luck with your channel and may God bless you. Greetings from South Africa.
Mike Sayers man, Mike!! Greetings to the both of you, hey thanks firstly for not being afraid to say you are unabashed Mark Wiens fans ha ha that’s awesome right there on its own... What a great, thanks so much for taking the time to write, not only watch the video but write me such a great message. I hope you do have a chance to visit Thailand again, of course I will probably be here, keep me posted, and he again much love from Thailand to South Africa thanks a ton. Wishing you well today
I'm envious, I went to Thai school for 15 days in 2016. I'm not that good at Thai but its fun to have ago. My holidays are much more rewarding. No country I've been to gives you more respect than Thailand when you speak Thai.
Joel I love that strategy letting them warm up to you with a little thai and then comfortable to speak with you. They are really lovely people and place, Great learning video, safe travels ❤
Sand AL, greetings to you, big hug from Thailand to you in Puerto Rico! Thanks for the amazing words dude, wish you have the chance to visit Thailand some day? And I would love to someday see Puerto Rico as well. Cheers!
Greetings Joel and thank you very much for sharing this excellent video to us. We're all enjoying all these videos you're uploading. Blessings and best regards from Puerto Rico.☺🇵🇷
why i just found your youtube channel omg! your appearance in mark's vid caught my interest cause you radiate such a bright and positive energy. and for some reason i always feel warm watching your vids. thank you for making your own channel, you've got a new subscriber right here 😊
Naru, What a nice message to read today, thanks so much for taking the time to write, thanks for taking the time to find me, I am very glad to be a source of inspiration, and it motivates me as well. So thank you :-) have a great day
Joel, good to see you out sharing your experiences and perspectives. The thing about Thailand and Southeast Asia in general is the fresh fruits and food markets.
Your videos are just popping up on my feed! I am so glad to know that you have your own channel. I love your insight and laid back delivery style. Keep up the good work!
Well done ! One of your best vid's yet. Years ago, when I took night classes in Japanese @ U of Pittsburgh then traveled to Japan for business, the respect level ramped up greatly. You had the additional advantage of living in-country to fully embellish yourself in the language & culture. Thanks for sharing. Stay Safe & Healthy and God Bless !
Whoa Ron, that is dedication man! Kudos to you, thats awesome, Japanese is not an easy language at all. I have a good friend who works in Okinawa, I can't even believe some of the intricacies he explains to me... Hope all is well today Ron, hope things are going great. Thanks for always taking the time to motivate me with your kind words, God bless man. See you for the next one!
This is so much fun to see. I started taking Thai lessons with teacher Charoen on Italki. It is so much fun (and I am so, so, so bad at it.) I love my little lessons, it's a mini opportunity to bring a piece of Thailand close to me, while I can't travel to return myself.
Hi Birgit! What a great comment today, thanks for taking the time to write (and for watching the video in the first place). Between us language learners, one of the most basic bits of advice I can give is that Language learning is always worthwhile, and rewarding, because as far as you take it (or it takes you) it has benefit to your life at every level along the way. So, whether you learn a little, or a lot, its always good, and therefore it is a worthy thing to do in itself.
I love so many things about your video. I love how chill and down to earth you are. And I was blown away to see that you said grace before your meal (i hope i am correct). And this is the first Thailand video (vlogs) I see featuring a Vegetarian restaurant (or at least meals). Would love to see more of your Thailand videos. And please do share on how the current situation affected Thailand as well. Subbed.
So awesome! LOve this comment! Ok, yes I will share much more vegetarian food in the future (I only really eat meat when I go on trips with Mark, at home its almost always just plant-based). I will also be sharing many more current videos, which will include info on the way about the current situation of life here... Hey, thank you so much for joining the channel, and yes, I do say Grace before each meal because, well God is due the thanks and praise!
Joel... You're channel is blowing up! I'm so happy for you! Great job, my friend. Seriously loving all your content. Stay healthy and safe! Much love! 🥰
Yahoo!!! Awesome to see your name, one of my first, nicest and most supportive of all followers and online friends :) :) I appreciate you still watching these, still finding them fun and entertaining, I hope everything is going well for you today. Thanks for the good wishes, I hope this finds you happy, healthy, and smiling as well! God bless :)
I just happened to find this video this morning, and now I'm a new subscriber! Of course, I've seen you in Mark's videos and always enjoyed you and wondered why you didn't have your own channel. Answer: you do, I just didn't know it. You talked about how kind people are; I think a lot is due to how kind YOU are. It comes back to you! (Although I agree that Thai people are very kind.)
@@JoelsTastyRide all is fine here in Langkawi, Malaysia. I really enjoy watching your videos because i can relate how a farang try to communicate with local people. Bravo to you that you able to be fluent in Thai. Its totally not easy with different type of "tones" especially. And you can write too! Wow
Gianluca!!! What an amazing comment, and wow - a huge welcome to this channel! Thank you so much for taking the time to find this, and subscribe - I am honored.
Fa rang aroi mak jing jing! 😋😋 Joel, your friendliness and politeness really made everyone love to get closer to you! Good job and salute your great talent to learn Thai language. I am also learning Thai language now, hope I can speak as fluent as you soon.
So nice to see this comment today, haha, I am laughing at the Aroi Mak jing jing... I wish you all the best in this very worthwhile journey :). Where are you living right now btw? If you have the chance (not today obviously, but soon, when the airports open up again!), coming here will really REALLY help with the language.
@@JoelsTastyRide I am living in Borneo, Kuching, Sarawak, East Malaysia. Actually I am planning for a long journey over to Thailand maybe after this critical period, hopefully by next year. Currently I am learning Thai Language online. If you are coming over to Kuching, you may let me know, my wife and I can be your host! Cheers!
Well Joel, here in CANUCKLAND we have two official languages, English and French. I don't speak much French, probably more Hindi as my wife is Indian. Love the content you put out and your affable ways are easily engaged. Nice to see you give thanks (pray)for the food. You've got tremendous potential to grow your channel, Joel. I hope Mark is one of your subscribers!❤
Pike my friend ! Hello 👋😎 .. Joel’s on fire .. it’s well deserved . Joel I remember you told me Kru means teacher , I’m assuming teaching English . @@AStupidTourist Hello good buddy!..Joel's doing well and so are you!... you're both about neck n neck for subs...love your content as usual and always lookin' forward to it! 😎
Jair bro!!!! Yes, Kru is a teacher, Im pretty sure it comes from 'Guru,' as in Sanskrit? Ancient India language? Thanks also for the good words about my speaking, its definitely from years of working hard to be understood, in hundreds of different situations (also years of that as a teacher of English)... yeah, it definitely has benefit to what I am currently trying to do as well.
Thanks for sharing man, very, very cool to know this about you. Ok, so, your home table when it comes to food is probably pretty epic :) ! Your comments are always so uplifting man, a big hug to you (from Thailand to Canada) today.
Lumphini Park is a gem ... kind of close to Som Tam Jay So ... I still love watching the migrationology video about their Kaw Moo Yang ! 😋 Marks quote “ Oh wow a baby could eat that “ 🤣😎... you make me miss Thailand . Thanks for taking me back to Bangkok ❤️❤️❤️ cheers man 🍺😎🍺
It is not just in Thailand, when I lived in Germany, I learned enough to get around, read the train schedule, tell the taxi driver where to go, order off a menu, or converse with my German landlord.. they really enjoy when you try to learn about the language and culture.. same everywhere... I lived in Korea for a while and the same thing...
I saw you on several of Mark's videos. I didn't know you had your own videos. I really enjoy your videos because you explain and write more about what you are doing and eating . You are so informative. Love your great attitude and spirit. I'm from Hawaii and suddenly I am obsessed with all things Thai.
Leiann! Your name is beautiful, and I can feel the energy for sure :-) have a wonderful day, so glad you are enjoying this video so much right now! Have you visited Thailand?
Nice video and so fascinating that you learned Thai on your own! It seems like a very difficult language to learn and I would love to learn it myself. I miss Thailand but its fun to visit through Vlogs like yours. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Steve, awesome message man, thanks for writing, thanks for watching the video. Happy to hear youre learning some Isaan as well, its so much fun :) Thai is cool, but Isaan is just goofy and so fun, I love it... do you live in the main town in Prachinburi? Ive done some cycling around there several years ago, can be very pretty when you get outside the city.
I blame RUclips algorithm to only suggest your video 7 months after your first upload 😡🤬 I hit subscribe faster than you can imagine. 🤣Thanks for making awesome contents. 🙏
Chan Cee Chan, this comment definitely made me smile thank you so much. Hey thanks for supporting the video but also writing to me as well. Have a great day today all the best, see you for the next one!!
Khun poot Thai di!!!!! I have trouble hearing as I am older lol... and the samnian (accent) is yak mak sanrap pom... I know I am the brunt of some really great Thai humor but I miss it because of my hearing !!!! 2.5 years here, I live west of Khunthep in Ratchaburi ... and thank you for the video, and the cool way that you present yourself.
Jim Nichols Jim, I think you understand this (and appreciate it) very much, Thanks for taking the time to comment. I know Ratchaburi well, I have done several bicycle races in that area, and returned and taken a few bike trips on my own as well. It is beautiful, I really hope you are enjoying the time there, - good luck on continuing the road to fluent Thai language use as well :-) thanks so much for the support, thanks for watching this video. Have a great day today man
Hey Joel.. I just visited your Chanel after I've seen you on Mark's videos.. You are so likeable so I got to search for you and I m happy seeing doing your own things.. And also just from reading some comments and see your kind respond that's an extra point for me.. Love from Greece!
Wow, Penny, thank you so much. I am honored by your kindness, thank YOU for sharing the love right back here with me. Awesome to see you enjoying the videos, glad you found this channel. Enjoy the day today!!! Cheers, much love (from Thailand, to Greece!!)
Awesome video brother. Just started learning the Thai language, only 3 months into it, very challenging but coming along well. Wow hope I can speak half as well as you one day as I can really see how the world opens up for you conversing with the locals!!
You can do it Dan, and its an awesome road you have begun to take - I can say that the people of Thailand themselves were the greatest motivation. They make it much easier to learn than (it otherwise could be? Maybe some countries might not be quite as joyful in (outsiders like us) learning local language, I thought that 99.9% of the time people we more than happy to teach ANY detail of which I was curious to know). Great comment man, thanks for watching this video!
I am sitting here in Germany right now, with my family in Thailand and man I miss them! But seeing your video, which I just found by accident, makes me really happy and I am so amazed by your Thai, it is fantastic, my heart just skipped a beat! Please continue making videos, you are spreading so much joy, thank you so much :)
Thanks! 😃Thanks a lot, I can say surely its one of the best feelings I have ever felt, can ever feel, when I am in the moment, standing there and being actively involved in a situation where multiple languages are being used, different cultures going on around me, and I can take part, I can understand (luckiest of all if I can be USEFUL helpful and motivating to those around me!)... this is my favorite situation in life I would say, thanks for noticing this video and coming to send me a message. Cheers! Enjoy the day Ed!
I am totally impressed with you Thai and the way you learned it. I am working on it, probaby not hard enough. I agree with you when you day that if you make an effort to speak thai with Thai people they love it and are do kind. Great video. I subscribed.
Fatchup, thanks for the good recommendations, youre totally right... I am looking for microphones right now, and the camera work... Im hopeful. Haha. still learning, and I really appreciate you (and all of you) giving me such support!!
Thank you for your response. I think your videos have great contents, just not quite polish. Once again, my humble opinion will be consider following how other people present their videos, like Mark or the food ranger guy. I understand they are in different budget and probably have better gears. But you can also consider following how other people do wtih simply a iphone. For example, I really enjoy the video from Lost Leblanc using an iphone. Anyway, keep it up! I wish I am 20 years younger and able to join you on all those wonderful bike rides.
Hi Joel, I also didn't know you had your own channel, I love it when you and Mark make videos together. So I am also a new subscriber. I visit Thailand every year and I usually go to Bangkok, Buriram and Nang Rong. Like you you more you respect and try to learn their language and culture then all the happiness and joy come out of the wonderful Thai people 🙏 🙏 🙏
It's August 2020, I am stuck at home in Hawaii unable to travel away,,,so watchingYou and mark is my only diversion daily here on RUclips. So far this year I have had to cancel 3 trips to Thailand. Feeling so happy I can watch your videos and at least have some arm chair travels to the land of smiles
Canadian Moose, right on! I am honored to come here and feel the energy from all these comments, thanks so much for adding your own here, I love it, thank you. Much appreciated!!!
Awesome video, Joel. Very interesting how you did learn Thai in just 2 years. How did you learn to read & write? Seems like it’d me much harder to do that. And thank you for not being ashamed to share your faith in our Creator. May God bless you!
Hi Filya :) Good morning! Beautiful message indeed. Beautiful day too! I hope youre well today. Quick answer on the writing, I did learn to read and write, it was tricky, but I loved it! That was my favorite part, and thats what probably gave me the willingness to continue (speaking Thai is not easy for a (non-Asian? A Westerner?). About the 2 years part, I can't give an easy answer, after learning so many small pieces of so many different languages over the past 11-12 years, I can only say that from my own experience, there are just some languages out there which resonate with our hearts (did this come from our upbringing? our own culture? Did God put those abilities there since birth, and its up to us to go out there and find which language seems to stick, seems to excite us the most?). Besides this language, I am not fluent in any others... and I guess I can't use the word FAILED when describing my own attempts at both Chinese and French, as Im still only 33 years old, I know theres still probably a lot of life and learning left to go... but, I have put in a lot of hours without really loving these, or really wanting to continue. Now, it seems to me that its a balance between our own small abilities, our own personal resonance with a/the language, and then our own willingness to put in the LONG hours of hard work. Those three things together are all needed, but I would say that we are only really in control of one or maybe one and a half of those things :) Ha. Thats definitely my opinion, and mostly my own self as a test subject...
So glad to see you have your own channel! I always see you on Mark's videos, but I don't think you or him have ever mentioned your channel. Hope to see more of your work.
So awesome John, welcome, and I hope you enjoy all the stuff you find on this channel!! Be blessed, enjoy your day today, thanks for taking the time to send me a message!

Always wondered where your channel was! Love how relaxed and genuine your videos are! Hi Joel! Greetings from Sweden. I would like to see a video where you eat mangosteen. I’ve said to my partner that mangosteen is my favourite fruit but I didn’t have the chance yet to show him the fruit.
Thanks so much for the idea! I actually just saw mangosteen for the first time yesterday, its been taking awhile to hit the markets this season... I can go and make a full fruit video as soon as the fresh markets open again (right now, due to the virus restrictions, I can't go in that specific area yet). Ok, waiting for this one right there with you :) I am a fruit addict, as you might see, thanks again for the suggestion, and I hope you are having a great day in Sweden today! Much love!!
That special Tamarind brought back childhood memories from India. We used to hiking in the woods in my native village during summer vacations. We used to climb the tall trees with a bamboo stick and knock them off. 👍

Cool message James, right on man, thanks! Hey keep on going, progress as far as you can, go as far as the language takes you - its all worth it, and I think thats one of THE most beautiful things about language. You use what you have, and (hopefully) when you make the best of that, good will things come your way (all over the world, but definitely in Thailand/regarding Thailand). Thank you so much for your support of this channel man, I really appreciate it.
Nice video Joel, That's the best way to learn a language. It's was so nice to get to know you more, and hear about your time living in Bangkok. The people are so nice and friendly. Thanks for showing us around. Hope you're well!

Interesting video what’s with the 4:3 ratio . Mark should give you a shout out, just before Christmas we went to that park, we saw a massive lizzard leave the park and try and cross a road. Fingers crossed it was ok.
Hi Stuart! Thanks for commenting, hope you enjoyed the video. About the 4:3, I kinda like it, maybe its old-school... but I hear you, people want the widescreen, so I will start with the wide screen (when we can get back to making videos outside again :) ) Have a good one, thanks for the comment! I love the monitor lizards as well, thanks for sharing the memory!
Joel, I love the style of your videos! It is so heartwarming to see how kind you are to my people. I hope one day we could share a meal! Would love to create and travel with a human being like you! If you are ever visiting Buriram, let me know!

@@JoelsTastyRide that's great to hear! So glad you lived in Isaan and experienced the culture there. I hope things are going well! Hoping we can cross paths one day ✌
40+ years ago I would visit the former weekend market in BKK - Sanam Luang. One time I was watching some lady buy some oranges. She left and the seller offered me some for a price (in a few words of English). I questioned her in Thai as to why the previous buyer paid about half or a third what she was asking from me. Sometimes it's better to stay quiet and listen, as you say. I would sometimes walk the markets and strike up a conversation just because. Or talk to myself in Thai where they could overhear a bit. Bargaining is an art.
Nnnnie, yes! Love the tips ("speaking to yourself" for a second, for the purpose of someone else hearing), there needs to be some kind of approach strategy :). I see this even to be useful WITHIN someone's own country at times, which is kinda cool to watch/be aware of... I love these situations, I see you do as well!

You are so right, and hey, thats awesome about your school experience, sounds like you definitely know enough already about Thailand to love it!
Joel I love that strategy letting them warm up to you with a little thai and then comfortable to speak with you. They are really lovely people and place, Great learning video, safe travels ❤
Joel, I’m so glad you now have your own channel. I always enjoyed you and Mark eating Thai and Lao foods. Your Esan speaking is great.
Saludos from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷!! Love Thailand in great part thanks to you and Mark. Awesome human beings.
Joel Bruner definitely and count me in. I will be your driver.
Your honest interactions with the locals are so heartwarming! New fan here!
why i just found your youtube channel omg! your appearance in mark's vid caught my interest cause you radiate such a bright and positive energy. and for some reason i always feel warm watching your vids. thank you for making your own channel, you've got a new subscriber right here 😊
Naru, What a nice message to read today, thanks so much for taking the time to write, thanks for taking the time to find me, I am very glad to be a source of inspiration, and it motivates me as well. So thank you :-) have a great day
Joel another fantastic video..I love your positive happy go lucky attitude 👍👍
Khan, awesome thanks for the support, and for coming down into the comments to let me know :) Awesome words, I am honored, thank you.
Im so happy to see you Joel and glad you have your own channel. GOD bless You Joel.. we All Love You
Su Sam!!!!!! So happy to see your name here :). Awesome, thanks so much for all your support over all these months so far.... much love :). God bless!
@@JoelsTastyRide im so happy to see You n Li always. Much Love Joel
Finally, I've found your channel, after watching u with Mark all these years. Love it!
Joel... You're channel is blowing up! I'm so happy for you! Great job, my friend. Seriously loving all your content. Stay healthy and safe! Much love! 🥰

พูดไทยเก่งจริง greeting from Las Vegas !!! I just came across on your channel , your awesome man!
So cool Mill!! Wow, great message, hey happy new years and a hug to you in Las Vegas today!
I like your video content, with the translation on the screen when the ladies speak in thai how they were curious you were speaking thai so well
Thank you Nuurul, And it’s nice to meet you. I hope all is well, where are you from?
@@JoelsTastyRide all is fine here in Langkawi, Malaysia. I really enjoy watching your videos because i can relate how a farang try to communicate with local people. Bravo to you that you able to be fluent in Thai. Its totally not easy with different type of "tones" especially. And you can write too! Wow
This is the best discovery of May 2020. I only ever saw Joel on with Mark WIENS. But now I'm subscribed to Joel's channel. Woohoo.
Just came across your channel 👍. I just moved to Prachinburi and trying to learn Thai with a little Isaan thrown in there. Keep that coming!
I actually live in a little village about 7km from Prachantakham, about 17 km from Prachinburi. Yes, very nice outside the city! 👍

Very excited to be a new subscriber. Can't wait to watch all of your videos.

Nice video. Impressive when you can interact with the locals through their language.

I have watched Mark Weins for 2 years now and was wondering if you have a channel and boy oh boy! So glad to finally see more of you! Godbless!!!

Nice post Joel! I haven't heard you speak more than one sentence before, had no idea you could speak... let alone speak thai.... that's awesome!

Much love!!

Hey, thanks! Haha Nate right on, yeah I have to thank RUclips as well for recommending me! Rock on, all the best today!
Fun vid to follow. One suggestion here, better make a widescreen aspect ratio. 4:3 is quite pain to watch these days.
It was a pleasure to meet you Joel!
