    Less than 10 minutes in and you've reviewed so much than other artists or even reviewers. I appreciate the measurements you did to such depth. Keep it up David!

      Thank you! Oh yes, I had a look at other reviews and mainly saw "I like this, I don't like that" but no real measurements. I don't blame, my previous tests and reviews were similar. But I'm learning, and investing in mini toys (heat gun :D) to help me to do the best I can.
      I really wish I'll be able to afford more tools like that in a near future (eg. a hardness measurement tool, on the Mohs Hardness Scale, or a plug to put on the power supply to measure power consumption) :-)

    David would you make a tutorial on how to calibrate monitor color with a colorimeter? I haven't seen any tutorial from artist on that and it'd even be better if you do it because you explain clearly and in depth but conscise too.

      Hey, that's a good idea! I'll probably need technically to wait a bit because the X11 method is reaching end of life and there is still not really a way to make that properly under Wayland ( properly as in "native" and "user friendly" except with running the X11 software under Xwayland mode). Things are coming together, slowly, but it's defintely something I want to cover.

    Checked your blog post :D it's so cool it will work with libwacom directly! This makes me want to switch to huion (after my cintiq 24 die that is i guess lol)

      Yes! I can't wait for the new libwacom to be released everywhere and the udev-bpf fix also to be in mainline kernel. After that, this one will be plug and play on Wayland Gnome and Wayland Plasma as any Wacom tablet.

    out of curiosity, what email client do you use with linux?

    • @DavidRevoy
      @DavidRevoy  22 часа назад +1

      I used a long time Thunderbird, and a short period Geary. But over the last years (probably since 2018) I started to just use the web GUI of my Protonmail and then I fusionned and redirected all my emails to that. For convenience (sync with the phone, sync on laptop, etc).
      I still have a thunderbird and the proton encryption app for getting IMAP; I run it sometime but it's more to get a local backup if Protonmail ban my profile or shutdown.

    i see that you are using debian, however, as im a new linux user..ive only ever use arch, wonder if this will run smoothly on arch, i use a laptop for my work mostly as i move a lot, but still considering to have this big screen,
    if im not mistaken, in the huion website, the supported the driver is for ubuntu(debian based) only
    as a casual linux user, im a bit hesitant to distro hopping as i only use linux as an alternatives and not because i want to deep dive in it
    if its not to much, i hope you can include the step by step for arch user in your blog

    • @DavidRevoy
      @DavidRevoy  3 дня назад +2

      Hi, yes, on Debian 12 KDE here :) I'll not publish Arch specific set of instructions; because it's not really relevant: what's more relevant is if you use a X11 session or a Wayland session, and what desktop environment you use. All of that is on the blog post, and the instructions.
      For the Deb package of Huion, if you want to use their driver on Arch, you can easily (probably, not tested) just unpack the deb (it's an archive) and install manually the executable and various libraries as organised in the deb package. Probably check AUR; I wouldn't be surprised if someone made a script for doing that automatically.
      On the bright side, if you look at the blog post, and the udev-ebpf and libwacom repo, a lot of work was made for an out of the box "coming soon" support. Totally FLOSS. I guess arch will be the first OS to grab the new versions out of the box.

      @@Joachim-o8l Can you let me know what operating system and what tablet ? because on my test here, it was a userland driver with disconnections on the first hours. I'm sure it's a good solution, but probably specific to some environment and hardware that's why I'm curious.

    • @DavidRevoy
      @DavidRevoy  3 дня назад +9

      Hehe, that might be the topic of a next video if I'm getting motivated. But, as you probably saw, the reviews are almost identical as the tech underneath is probably really close (the 18.4 4K screen, USB-C, two styluses...). I think this Huion could appeal the Mac audience; used to glossy screen and aluminium case. Also, maybe for the audience coming from Ipad (Touch for zoom, panning). but for my own usage, I struggled, and in the end I kept the XPPen connected because probably of the bias I had of using the 16inch model for a year before that already being adapted to the sensitivity. All in all, I think the end price will be the best argument for whomever look for a 4K 1:9 19inch tablet.

    perso ,je suis un peu deçu de huion et xp pen , ils peuvnt sortir des model en 18.5 pouces en 4k ( inutile a cette taille d ecran , sans compter que la tablette ne sera jamais plus proche que 50 cm des yeux ) bref , 4k sur du 18.5 c'est quasiment du 200 ppi
    la seule chose que la 4k fait pour cette tablette en 18.5 pouces , c'est augmenter de façon artificielle le prix de la tablette , la 1440p aurait deja donné 158ppi
    ces marques commercialisent des tablettes en 22 pouce ... seulement en 1080p la densité de pixel est trop basse , c'est la foire a la pixelisation .. et pourtant je ne suis pas vraiment quelqu'un qu'on pourrait appeler "trop exigeant ", mais là, ça trop!! du 1080p sur du 22 pouces , c'est seulement 100 ppi ((134 ppi en 1440p ))
    c'est quand qu'ils vont sortir des model 1440p pour 500 euro? on est en 2024
    tu imagine une tablette de 32 pouces mais en 1440p , voila le genre de problemes que c'est ,
    leur argument principale c'est " value*
    mais a quoi bon avoir de la valeur si on n'a pas envie d utiliser la machine ?

    • @DavidRevoy
      @DavidRevoy  2 дня назад +1

      Heu, du quadHD 16:10 en 16pouce chez XPpen, c'est à ce budget là ( www.xp-pen.com/store/buy/artist-pro-16-gen2.html ) ; mais oui sinon. Le 4K sur 16:9 c'est bourrin, mais ça s'apprecie sur du Line-art fin avec le stylet fin: c'est précis et le trait est mordant dans sont rendu, pas d'anti-aliasing visible. On peu presque bosser en 100% aliased workflow sans que ça se voit.
      Bref, je suis pas contre les haute résolution. Le point vraiment pas top, c'est surtout que ça pompe à fond les cartes graphiques et performances, et que le display scaling des distro linux c'est pas ça. Mais à voir avec les futures D.E. Wayland.Merci pour ton retour!

      @@DavidRevoyla naza louent leur ordinateurs je crois😂 , avoir un ppi au dessu de 110 ppi est essentiel pour le Line art ,ça je ne dit pas , mais pour un model en 19 pouces ,le 1440p est extrêmement net , moi je râle sur le manque de ppi sur leur model 22 pouces , 100ppi ,c’est vraiment trop bas techniquement parlant , sauf si tu plisses les yeux😅 j’ai du mal à percevoir la valeur d un outil qui ne donne pas envie surtout à + de 550 € 🤔
      Si tu pouvais avoir accès aux modèles 22 pouces de chez xppen et Huion via un sponsor par exemple , je pense que ça te sauterait aux yeux🫠
