My name is Erich and I live in Italy welcome to my channel. I used to play golf on and off for many years, but I started my journey again about 8 years ago, changing my swing completely.
My goal is to become a single figure handicap golfer in the near future.
To achieve this goal, I built my own backyard putting green and set up a backyard golf net. I love playing in my backyard green, doing drills, club reviews and playing at the range and at the course to get better at the game and ultimately reach my goal (hopefully).

A tiny bit of solvent helps it slide on better. I find that over time the grips can twist a bit which isn't great when you have grips with alignment lines. I'm going to try a strip of double-sided tape at the butt end next to see if it help keep it in place and stop it twisting over time. Have seen others suggest using masking tape and strong hairspray to help against twisting as well. This method though makes it very easy and able to swap grips easier e.g. maybe you want different grips in summer and winter.
@@stuartjames7820 thanks, I changed to golf pride grips, but they’re brand new, I’ll do it when I change them next year
Great tip! Thanks for the tutorial 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks
The Lamkin grips are excellent, I totally agree.
Yes totally, they are my favorite, no slipping, super dry!
What a great idea. I have never heard of or seen that before. You are right, it ca be messy using the tape and solvent. I have always changed my own grips, and find it less messy when I use a spray to apply the solvent. I may well give your way a try next time. Great video.
Thanks, yes I find it very easy using air and no tape.
I didn’t even know this could work without tape! Nice one Erich!
It may be the type of grip, but it really works without any issues. Thanks
Wow this looks easy! Great technique with the air. Never would have thought that the air pressure would make it a whole lot easier. I take it this will work on steel shafts as well. Great tutorial!
Yes, definitely it works on any shaft, really easy to do without tape 👍
muy bien muchas gracias
De nada, funciona muy bien 👍
I know it’s probably just me, but for some reason it feels like you missed a very opportune moment after finishing installing the new grip on that club by not picking it up and saying, “Now say hello to my little friend!”…. No? No one else? Just me? Ok, you buncha liars. All kidding aside, excellent demonstration of an awesome, time and mess saving process. Thank you for your time and effort. May the birdies be with you, kind sir.
I’ll remember next time 😂, thanks
Wow ... I didn't know thia and indeed way easier. I wanted to try the Supermax but the proces of replacing the grip prevented me for going for it. Great vid. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Yes, it’s quite simple without tape, you can do it with a really cheap mini compressor (30 euros) and mini vice (9 euros).
@@thebackyardgolfer7010 I've got a small compressor already so I'm good to go. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
it slides on so much easier with good old masking tape.... works a treat... it literally takes 3 seconds.
I’ll try it next time, thanks
Nice! I need to do this for my irons. My iron grips are in bad shape.
Brand new grips make a huge difference!
I have never heard of changing golf grips using air. Great tutorial. 👊🏼
Have you done this with putter grips🤔
Thanks, it works like a charm 👍
@@agolferswalk My Pro uses a compressor to take grips off. You can reuse grips so if you want to change a grip from one putter to another it's easy. Instead of tape my Pro uses glue.
I never considered using a mini compressor to do this, I do have a small compressor, but those mini ones are extremely cheap to pick up.
Brilliant idea.
Have wanted to try using just air because taking them back off if you don't like them is so hassle free.
Happy New Year Erich.
Yes, there was a guy who actually installed a grip with a manual air pump!! So a mini portable inflator is more than enough👍 happy New Year, thanks
Just shot the same video, haha. Great minds think alike! So easy to change this way.
Cool, I want to get the mini tire inflator and mini vice and do it from my car at the driving range!!!!
@@thebackyardgolfer7010 that would be awesome!
Thanks for the tip! I just installed a few grips without any tape and it feels like there's some play between the grip a shaft, like it's a little loose. Is it possible that's just trapped air that will eventually dissipate?
I never had an issue with the lamkin crossline, make sure to wait a few minutes after installing them. Lately on old clubs I take off the old tape, but leave just a little bit, but I have some clubs where the shaft is super clean and the grips are not slippery, good luck!
@@thebackyardgolfer7010 They finally settled down. I also had to just make sure that the grips were stretched to full length on the shaft on a few. Thanks!
@@kevinkelly9424 for me, if they are not crossline grips I normally have to wait 5-10 minutes for them to be fully tight 👍
Thank you for this tutorial! What PSI do you use?
You mean the air compressor? It’s a really old one actually and it’s broken, it doesn’t give out its full power, but as you can see you don’t really need that much pressure to remove a grip.
I've heard it's best to put tape on end of butt to force air around the grip... better pressure
Now when I change grips that had tape on them, I remove most of the tape, but I leave a little bit on it and it works pretty good that way, thanks
What an awesome u r
Thanks 👍🏌️♂️
or just use some masking tape if you what it thikker
@@martinrindomsoerensen8834 that should work too
Would using 90% rubbing alcohol maybe work to ease the grips on better?
I never used rubbing alcohol, I just changed all the grips for a friend of mine without any tape, it worked like a charm, no need to add any tape in my opinion, unless you have thirck grips
Gret idea, How do hook up the air to that small hole?
you need the right gun adaptor, not difficult to do
👍
Can I still use the same technique using tape? Thank you!
Yes, but make sure you wet the tape before you slide in the grip, it will be a bit more difficult, but it can be done
Have you ever tried using hair spray and compressed air to put it on?
I've seen it, but never tried it, using these lampkin grips, they fit perfectly without any components or tape, at least that is how they feel to me.
I tried your method just last night with a new Golf Pride grip on my carbon shaft driver, it definitely will never spin on the shaft.
@@targetoz5470 I think initially it would seem to be loose, but after 5 minutes it’s stock in there for good, I’m glad it worked 👍
I was concerned with the air just building up and maybe even pushing the grip off. Didn't even consider it being malleable enough to vent itself lol
I've never had an issue without tape, honestly, maybe it depends on the brand
Do the grips shift around later on without the tape?
Not at all, I was doubtful initially, but it’s perfect, at least with these brand of grips. They tend to stick after a day, when I try taking them out, they are stock to the shaft, I have to increase air pressure then they’ll came off
@@thebackyardgolfer7010 thanks bro
Have you ever tried a highly diluted solution of dish soap and water? We did that when changing the grips on bicycle’s.
Yes I did try tape with dish soap, but I ended up blowing up the grip...I just prefer putting it without tape, if I need it thicker I would yes get the mid or oversized grip, but no tape with messy solution for me...
@@thebackyardgolfer7010 yeah don’t need the mess. I am getting new grips for my wife’s clubs and will skip the tape and solution and try just the soap and water. My compressor bit the bullet awhile ago. You made me realize that there are more than one way of doing this, so thank you and keep up with the video’s 👍
@@oldguyrulesweyerman6955 that should work! Thank you 🙏
Seems your dead if you need to adjust the line on grip so it lines up with clubhead
Shouldn’t they be aligned? I’ve golf pride grips and the logo is aligned to the club head
@@thebackyardgolfer7010 I use the line to square my face with the target line. So I'm careful to get the little line on the grip so that when it's straight down when addressing the ball, I know my club face is square to my target. Well, at least that's my objective whether I pull off such an accurate installation is another story. But point is I can adjust the grip when I slip it on with tape and solution. No can do when you slide it on with air, right?
@@Blue_Dun yeah, but the grip won’t move even with just air after 5 minutes, trust me it does not move or slide after the installation
it cracks me up when guys do air and still use tape and solvent. critical thinking
I know! it's much easier using air and I really don't think you need tape, if you want thicker grips just get oversize grips
Thats seemed way more difficult than using tape
Trust me it’s really simple
