My mother used to play this very recording on a cassette for me when I was a little boy, and would often sing it to me when tucking me in to bed at night. I startled my wife when I started weeping like a child as I rediscovered this recording again after 30 years. My mother passed away this past spring of cancer, and this recording brought her back to me if but for a moment. Thank you for posting.
Beautiful Recording! I was born in the late fall of 1978. My maternal aunt by marriage gave me this alum and piano music to this album! My mom and I saw Cynthia Clawson in concert in Louisville, Kentucky in 1983 while Cyntia Clawson was living in Louisville, Kentucky! It was Wonderful!
I was fortunate to meet her in 1972 when I was 12 in Dallas. Her husband co-wrote the musical "Celebrate Life" and Cynthia sang the two female solos in that musical and she was fantastic. My church was the second church to do the musical in Dallas in 1972 and Cynthia was there to sing her solos and her husband was in the audience. I have seen her many times over the years in the Dallas area and have talked to her a few times. Easy to see her because she was born in Texas and I think she still lives in San Antonio. One time in concert, during the intermission at a church, I put a note on her piano to play and sing this song. She read the note and laughed and said she thought about doing it but there was some reason why she couldn't.
I accepted Jesus as my Saviour in 1975 , and this hymn really is one that speaks of the Desire of ages calling me home and Cynthia sings it so appealingly...her voice is so soothing.
I am weeping deeply right now. I remember singing this version 35 years ago. Back then I was a young married woman with two small children. I am so broken inside. So many losses since then. I lost everything and everyone since 1999. I have lost my way. I have lost my faith. Please don't say "pray or trust in God" or read your Bible. I did that all those years and still lost everything 💔 My ex cheated on me and filed for divorce in 1999. He got everything including our kids. I am estranged from my 4 adult children. I can't stop sobbing. Hearing her sing has opened up so much pain.
Dear Ruth ... only if you choose to turn your back on Him will you have lost everything. Listen! He is still waiting, calling your name ... come home ...
Repent of your sin of turning your back on God ask His forgiveness and you will be restored. It’s not God’s fault these things happened, they are human created. Yes, God probably allowed it to happen and when you return to Him, He will strengthen you to help others.
I think this is one of her best songs on one of her best albums. My favorite track would be The Journey, which got me through some tough times. I bought this LP new in the late 70s, and was devastated when at some point it warped when I left it on a hot stereo amplifier. I still have the warped LP. For many years her early music was unavailable due to a dispute with her record label, so I was reduced to using my pre-warpage deteriorating cassette copy. At some point (200x?) some things showed up briefly on CD and I immediately ordered The Way I Feel. The CDs are no longer available, but the music is available for download. Great stuff.
Only God can judge, but I think she must be a truly good soul. Loved her voice since I was little. I also like her version on the movie "A Trip to Bountiful," which is also a good and wholesome film about life.
Cynthia Clawson is the most gifted songstress for ALL of Gosple music. She is simply The Very Best at interpreting the lyrics that delivers the Heart of the message, and also delivers with such anointing that the listeners hold their breath so they will not miss a sound of her most fluid Nuance. We love and appreciate the very special gift the God Our Father intrusted to her. SHE takes us, the listener, to that heavenly dominion, suspending us in total bliss. She is gifted like the Fabulous BARBRA STRIESAND, In how she is able to hold Us Captive in any song she sings , giving us the experience of sher Rapture. Thank You Dear Cynthia
The MOST anointed song for the Lord Jesus.... THIS REWRITE is like straight from Heaven...... I want to sing it so badly... but there's nothing for it she's released yet..... I have this incredible album from the 80's.... It takes me to heaven! Praise our Lord!
Love it, love it, love it! The moment I and several college friends heard it in 1976: Wow! At that time, we loved the old hymns, but as teenagers, we wanted new melodies to go along with the theologically profound words of those great hymn writers. AND....THIS IS THE ONLY RUclips link of the song, where I actually see the name of the the hymn writer, Will L. Thompson. He wrote the words (and his own tune), in 1880.
1 Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling- Calling for you and for me; Patiently Jesus is waiting and watching- Watching for you and for me! CHORUS: Come home! come home! Ye who are weary, come home! Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, Calling, O sinner, come home! 2 Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading- Pleading for you and for me? Why should we linger and heed not His mercies- Mercies for you and for me? 3 Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing- Passing from you and from me; Shadows are gathering, death-beds are coming- Coming for you and for me! 4 Oh, for the wonderful love He has promised- Promised for you and for me! Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon- Pardon for you and for me!

Everyone has had losses in life, sounds like you have had more than your fair share. Hope you can find your way back to the Lord.
Praying for you...sometimes our only help is to remember that God sees and bottles our tears.
Time heals all wounds, and wounds all heels.

Beautiful Melody! Beautiful Recording!
Her all-time best song, in my opinion! What a voice, what a message -- what a blessing.

When I get to heaven
Will the sea still be green
Will the sand taste salty
Can you hear a seagull beat his wing
Can the waves still dance, while the tide makes a foam
I might miss the ocean
When my soul goes home.
When I get to heaven
Will the garden still perfume
Will the lilies greet me in their velvet white bloom
Will blossoms go to sleep at night and open for the day
I might miss the flowers when my soul goes home to stay
They tell me that it's lovely there
That gates are made of pearl
And all the streets are paved in gold
And jasper walls surround the world
I understand that shadows flee
And everywhere is light
But what about the moon and stars and dreams I dream at night
When we all get to heaven what a day of rejoicing that will be
When we all see Jesus
I never thought I loved the earth
Until I held Your hand
I felt You take my heart and then You made me understand
That God is love and touching Him
Is also touching Man
So dance in the grass
Let the Word become flesh
And wash the world in song
And thank the God of Heaven and Earth
Until my soul goes home
I would love to find this soundtrack! Does anyone know if it’s available?
i had her LP vinyl record and copied each song on youtube. And lost the record in the flood of 2016 (in Louisiana)
Does this have an accompaniment track that can be purchased?
