My mom just passed away 2 days ago and my prayer during her lengthy illness was that she find my God and be able to sing How great Thou Art along with Mr . Shea. Mom I pray you will R.i.p. with Jesus.
I only ever had the pleasure of hearing George Beverly Shea live once, at QPR football stadium when I was a steward. One of the greatest experience of my life.
I was at Madison Square Garden in 1957 when George Beverly Shea sang How Great Thou Art. I was on my way to serve as a missionary in Mali Republic, West Africa, where I served with my wife for over 44 years. From the time I was saved as a senior in HS in Kansas City, MO, in 1951 through YFC I have followed the BGEA. Only heaven will tell of all who have been blessed through the Billy Graham team as they've labored for the Lord. God be praised: Robert Dean Overstreet: WatchmenOfTheKing
Amazing example of a failing human being using the incredible gift God gave him for HIS glory, not his own. My parents played this man's records growing up and his voice was always my fav.
One may feel their voice not worthy to lift in song,, but to your your Lord it is the most beautiful sound in heaven. “ by golly, that kid might make it after all! “ Though the years may have turned the hair as white as snow, the hopes of a young boy still live.
OK......I have to share this..........in 2000, I was a pallbearer at my father-in-law's funeral, and he programmed many of these old hymns for his funeral service........well, when he programmed "How Great Thou Art" at the end of his service.........being brought up in the Baptist Church as I was, and because my Granddad, a Baptist minister for about 28 years, loved those old songs.......I raised my mighty baritone as we took that casket to the hearse, and I'm proud to have done it!!!
Today my eyes fill with tears of joy, to know that you are now in the presence of our Lord and Savior and can sing that song TO HIM, face to face! Thank you for your service to our Savior and the beauty and inspiration you brought into our lives with your songs
I Remember (As A Boy) The First Time I Heard This. It Gave Me Goose-Bumps Then As It Does Today. Give Your Heart To JESUS CHRIST Today, Before Time Runs Out. Jesus Loves You, Died For You and Wants to Spend Eternity With You.
Bev Shea is singing face to face with his Lord tonight. What a concert is going on in the Heavenly choir! Thank you to our God for blessing us with Bev's ministry all these years.
I've got another 30 years before I get near Bev Shea in age, but will never get anywhere near his wonderful gospel ministry record. What a true & faithful servant. Amen.
My father loved hearing George Beverly Shea sing. Some of my earliest memories are of my father listening to the Hour of Decision on Sunday nights after church. What a blessing to grow up in a Christian home.
When Christ came, with shout of acclamation, to call George Beverly Shea home, he bowed in humble adoration and proclaimed, 'My God, How Great Thou Art." Thank you, Mr. Shea, for many, many years of your beautiful music praising our Lord.
SANDIE...HOW LOVELY!! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE!! YES, I MUST SAY THAT I FEEL EXACTLY THE SAME WAY. I'M SO BLESSED TO HAVE HEARD DR. BILLY GRAHAM AND REV GORGEOUS BEVERLY SHEA WHEN I WAS A CHILD. BOTH NOW WITH OUR LORD. CAN YOU IMAGINE THE WONDERFUL TALKS BILLY MUST BE HAVING WITH JESUS AND THE SONGS THAT BEV IS SINGING WITH THE HEAVENLY ANGELS. ONE DAY WE WILL BE THERE, SANDIE, TO SIT AND LISTEN TO THESE GREAT MEN OF GOD.
He is a Canadian growing up in Winchester,Ontario just south of Ottawa. His father was the Wesleyan minister of the church around the corner from where I live in Ottawa. I heard him in 1966 in Saint John, New Brunswick,Canada. So powerful a singer.
Watching him sing happily in his old age is a very wonderful testimony that our GOD is really great! I can't help but cry because I feel so blessed just by watching him sing of GOD's power and greatness..not only to HIS life but among all of us! To GOD be all the glory!
My late wife brought back The Beautiful Garden of Prayer record by George Beverly Shea back from America in 1958 and is still being played. The voice is beautiful and his recording of How Great Thought Art tops every thing I remember hearing my wife singing it in 1959 and it brought me to accept Jesus.
Richard Brian Prickett Wow, that sounds like a wonderful story. Truly, the Lord only knows how many people were lead to Christ through his songs, but every one is special! May I ask what country you are from?
No opera singer in the world could bring own the house like George Beverly shea. His songs cause us to worship the Lord with all our heart. Such a joyful crowd.
I met George in the 70s. My twin and I were with Cliff Barrows for a week at a church in Atlanta. Cliff Preached each night and we did 2 or 3 songs . George came in one night of the meeting and sang. Most people are not aware that Cliff is a fantastic preacher . Every one thinks he just leads the music for the Big crusades. Both George and Cliff are just down home humble fellows and working with them was a highlight of all our years in music ministry. Thanks for sharing this video !! - FLOYD
RIP Bro. George Beverly Shea... ! What a privilege for all of us to be able to hear you... ! But once again for long time.. we will hear your great voice glorifying God.. up in heaven. Miss you..! May His peace befall on us all.. at this time.
The greatest thing about Mr. Shea is not that he was a wonderful gospel singer. Undoubtedly, he was. Rather, the greatest thing about this man, who has now gone home to be with the Lord, is this: For something on the order of 70 or 80 years, Mr. Shea faithfully served his God in ministry. THAT, is Mr. Shea's lasting legacy to the body of Christ.
Scott Adkins YES, he travelled all over the world with the Rev. Billy Graham, singing GOD's praises, and spreading the Word !! Thank you, George, and rest in peace !!
A truly fantastic spiritual man with a great bass voice. His depth and projection were superb. Geo. May you test in peace in God's heaven with Billy Graham.
"When Christ shall come with shouts of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!" welcome home brother George, there may be tears shed tonight for our loss of you here on earth, but there is celibration in heaven. I know you heard the words we all stive to hear when we finally meet our Father face to face, "well done good and faithful servent" you were a true warrior of God.
Bev shea was one of the best hymn singers there ever was, thats my opinion he was still singing at a 103 yrs old and he lived to be 104..what a great man he was
RIP Bro George Beverly Shea, you have been such a blessing to me and my family as I remember my grand daddy, grand ma, and my daddy, who have all gone to heaven now, sing these very words so many times. Tell them all high as ya'll all sing together for Jesus and the Angels! This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through! God Bless you all!
He has cumulatively sang for over 220 million people in his lifetime. What an amazing man and great choir director. I was blessed to be among hundreds in the choir when Billy Graham came to San Diego years ago. I will always remember how Beverly Shea was so encouraging and uplifting in our rehearsals with him. Definitely a highlight of my life!
RIP George! it was probably my favorite thing to ever do in church band, transitioning from Charlie Hall's "Marvelous Light" into this awesome song... this dude was a blessing for 104 years, and will continue to be for many more years because of his music!
Mr. Shea was a customer of mine at my Asheville NC store. He came in regularly and was always such a friendly down-to-earth person. One day he came in and I had the opportunity to talk with him about the history of the song, "How Great Thou Art". He told me the whole very interesting story in detail . . . and then with that big bass-baritone voice he gave me my own personal concert, filling the whole place with a resounding "How Great Thou Art". Afterwards, sort of jokingly, I asked him if he could sing the bass on "Have A Little Talk With Jesus. He did know it and I joined in with him on a chorus. He clapped his hands and laughed in such a child-like manner. What a delightful experience! BTW, I did ask him what he thought about Southern Gospel music and if he had heard of the Gaither videos. He said he had been asked to appear on a video, but then he laughed and said, "I really don't go in for all that hand waving and stuff. I'm a lot more reserved!" Hahahaha. That was many years ago. So, it was a great delight for me to see him years later appearing on a video session. I guess he wasn't too old and stuffy to change his taste in music? Hahaha. Thanks for the video.
My dad was given an Alexa . He would listen to an hour of George Beverly Shea's songs before he went to sleep at night . When we were told my dad was transitioning into death. My siblings came in from out of town to stay with us . The only thing I regret is , that I didn't insist that we continued at night to let my dad listen to these songs .
its 16 years since i laid my mother to rest this was one of her favourite songs i sit hear with tears in my eyes knowing she has a front seat with one of the best gospel singers ever HOW GREAT THOUGH ART.
With all the troubles & stress in this world, we are still blessed & loved by our Lord. He has given us the privilege & pleasure of great music & beautiful voices. Bev Shea stands out as 1 of the BEST EVER. We can continue to hear his unequaled abilities by the technologies God has allowed us to use with great enjoyment & appreciation. "God Bless us, Everyone!"

I went to two different Baptist churches in the bible belt, and requested of each minister to have the congregation sing this song for the benefit of everyone. They wouldn't do it. Yet, I hear the audience and a famous singer singing it on RUclips whenever I want to hear it. God is Great!

I read several years ago that George Bev Shea had sang to more people live than anyone else in the world. With all the Billy Graham services running days on end and thousands of people at each one and there being an extreme lot of services, he sang to millions of people live. And that does not even come close to the people he sang to on records, etc.
yet they say the good die young. I guess there's always an exception to the rule. He was an example of that exception. His Faith and service to God must have enriched his soul. Although I am born and raised a Catholic, I admire and love this song so much. Everytime it is sung, I get overwhelmed by emotions. It just fills my heart with gratefulness and constantly reminds me that despite of my weaknesses, I have God to look up to. And His grace is more than enough for me to go on with life.
May God grant peace and strength to the family of George Beverly Shea who today entered the heaven he sang about for decades at the age of 104. Thank you for your faithful ministry to so many.
When God visited humans being, He always deported something unimaginable, spectacular and magnificent in humans heart like this kind of song, it came directly from Him to Him. Glory Hallelujah Amen.
Your voice was that of a strong lovely angel. I grew up watching and respecting both you and the Rev. Graham. Turning into an old man myself now. I will see you in heaven Mister Shea.
When a man can get an entire room to sing with him, you know he’s one of the best. God bless this man. Rest In Peace my friend
Amen....one of the world's great men and as humble as he could be.
My mom just passed away 2 days ago and my prayer during her lengthy illness was that she find my God and be able to sing How great Thou Art along with Mr . Shea. Mom I pray you will R.i.p. with Jesus.
